  • Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and a video about what is possibly my favourite plastic kit - the USMC Marines plastic kit made by Rubicon Models! I have been following the progess that Rubicon is making on its Vietnam range and as soon as I saw the USMC miniatures I knew that I really wanted to build and paint these.
    In the video I will show you the sprue that comes with the USMC kit, how they look when they are assembled and also how they look painted as I have completed eight from the box so far.
    I have been really very impresssed with this box and each miniature has been an absolute joy to paint and I am certainly looking forward to working on the rest of this box and the rest of the Vietnam range by Rubicon Models.

    I saw this at Salute last year but I have so many of the Gringos40 figures. The running one holding his helmet is also in the Gringo range as well. Great paint job by the way, as always.

      Cheers James, much appreciated! I guess if people already have a large collection of figures from this era from another manufacturer it probably wouldn't be worth investing in this. I'm new to Vietnam era gaming and as a fan of plastic miniatures these have been ideal 😀

    Hopefully this is a new wave in miniature design. Realistic proportions rock the mini world for me. Better immersion, less cobby looking fun muppets. 54mm,1/32nd look great, and what with computer aided sculpting. Why the hell shouldn't wargame scale minis follow the same attention to detail and ahem, the real look of history in action (ickle bitty tiny Tamyia)! Awesome animation in this range and justice done by the artist here. Bang up job dude! I want to watch Platoon for the umpteenth time and it's all your fault. Cracking plastic!!

  • @paulbrockhurst8397
    @paulbrockhurst8397 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking on and being inspired by your treatment: I've had an idea for new wave basing. What if the base faded into the terrain. No rim, no lip, no plinth, the kinda thing that's done with clear Perspex but more blended. A kind of green stuff textured blend with the game board. Hard to explain without illustration. Yet I think it would look great if done right over a hard metal 0.5 mm disk (or thinner if poss, 0.2)?. This is prob heresy in gaming circles. However and hmmm! Just putting it out there. P.s. guitar string aerial looks fabulossos our kid! Noice!

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul, that's actually a very intriguing idea! I'm always interested in any kind of basing theory. I can certainly see how this would work...I may have to look into this a bit more! I think you would probably need an equally awesome looking tabletop but I can definitely see this working. Top idea! 😀👍

    These Rubicon figures are fantastic! Being a modeler, not a gamer, I hate the silly "Flames of War" figures, "Warlord Games" or "Bolt Action" figures that have gigantic, ridiculous looking heads and weapons. To me they must be realistic. I build 1/72, 1/48, 1/35 armor and figures, plus I collect 1:18 21st Century Toys and Ultimate Soldier--their armor is fantastic but the 1:18 figures leave a lot to be desired. The question is: I am very impressed with the Rubicon line, but do I want to start a whole new scale?!

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They're really lovely figures to paint and the scale and proportions are absolutely spot on. Having worked on literally hundreds of Warlord Games figures, there is definitely an element of oversize but I think this is more the 'heroic' scale as wargaming miniatures.
      I have a Rubicon Konigstiger that has been sat on my shelf for a good while. I'll definitely be approaching that as more of a scale model. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, always appreciated 😃👍

    what was the color pallet?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was mostly a mix of different Vallejo greens to produce an uneven mixture of faded uniforms. The three main colours were Vallejo US Dark Green, US Olive Drab and German Field Grey and then different green/brown/black washes. I'm hoping to paint a few more of these soon 😃👍

      Agree with this, compared to some other manufacturers, Rubicon kits can be a little more pricey. But I guess that it's a case of you get what you pay for. I like Rubicon kits because they are always well sculpted and detailed and go together really well 😃👍

  • @jacksonclowes6041
    @jacksonclowes6041 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    thing is with wargaming i feel like the consumer has been mugged off for years and years with ridiculous prices for products that when compared to the military kit counterparts, are trash quality, even these moldings are really iffy when compared to something like masterbox or tamiya figures (not the old tamiya, anything reasonably new) theres a long way to go with wargaming price points still, it wouldnt wash in the scale world, nobody would buy the products.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you've definitely got a point there. I have a friend that is big into his scale modelling and while the level of detail and complexity are higher, there isn't much disparity in the price points between scale modelling and wargaming products. Certainly food for thought 👍

      @OnPointHQ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like I said, product reviews can be very subjective but as someone that avoids metal miniatures where I can, I found these to be ideal. I have looked at some of the Gringo40 range for some support options that aren't currently available in plastic 😀
