    Part 13: • Van Lathan: Kanye Does...
    Part 11: • Van Lathan on His Shor...
    Part 1: • Van Lathan on Growing ...
    --------
    In this clip, Van Lathan opened up about his struggles with his weight and relationship with food, which he says he had to unlearn when he was an adult and decided that he needed to lose weight. Van then shared a story, which will be in his upcoming book, about treating himself to a huge meal when he was working at Best Buy. He explained that he had gotten so used to going in the same restaurant that he didn't realize that they were closed for Christmas, which led to Van crying when he found out. Van then spoke about struggling again during the pandemic and when he prescribed anti-depressants, which you can hear more about above.

      Exactly! Then Vlad says something so vapid. It's like saying to the person who struggles with alcohol just say to yourself this is the last drink I'll ever take. Say it all you want...but for so many with any addiction it's truly "one day at a time". When someone doesn't realize that it can come off as obnoxious & arrogant...especially as so many people eventually not only put back on the weight they lost but sometimes 10 to 50 more pounds.

Thankyou Van for sharing your testimony. Your story means a lot, and will be encouragement for someone else struggling. Keep pushing Brotha!

      At one point I drank NOTHING BUT water, 3, 4 years. I was avoiding juice and soda to keep from breaking out from the sugar. I walked in the store and seen a Big Blue for the first time. I was like "wooooow, that looks delicious"....I filled the trash can with so many empty soda bottles my roommate thought I had some syrup in the stash. Ever since then, I need a soda at least every 2 days. If I go 2, 3, 4 days without one then I'm like "yo, man fuck this water I need some sugar, something with flavor" and grab a cold drink. Just one but it's wild how that switch just turns on and I'm chasing down a Sprite or Big Blue or even worse one of them cheap juices or sodas in the hood with a shitload of sugar in em. Now that I think about it I'm sure my sugar levels were thru the ROOF when I WAS drinking syrup everyday cuz I got up to like 210 pounds and it was ALL bloat. Right in the gut. Cut that shit out and it fell right back down to 180.....185 on a GOOD day.

    Every now and then someone shares a story and I’m listening. And I may pick up my phone to check a notification. And I’m still actively listening. But I’m trying to multi-task. And I have to stop what I’m doing to listen fully. Because that’s real. Good addiction is a real think. Considering I’m not addicted to absolutely nothing else. Food is a comfort. And I’m struggling everyday to force myself to not drink that Dr. Pepper. Drink that water bottle first. Take them vitamins. Drink that smoothie. Okay. I did good today? Tomorrow. French fries instead of tots from Bojangles. With a White Chocolate Mocha. It’s like I have a fear of starving because I remember when I couldn’t eat what I wanted. So, some how I have moments I over indulge. Instead of eating 1 peach turnover. I have to have 2 at every sitting. And I’m not ashamed. It’s a struggle. And it’s not easy. At all.

    This is really great to hear Van be so brutally honest because usually only women admit to food addiction but the truth is men suffer from it just as much but we dont talk about it bc weight is most of the time associated with mental health. We dont talk about that either bc, unfortunately, we consider these things weaknesses.

    I used to work at a Bennigans in the 90's. Those tenders were 🔥. Home made tempura batter made to order. They even had this fried sandwich called the Monte Cristo that is probably responsible for a few thousand heart attacks. I never even tried it, it just looked like death...the thing literally came with jam on the side.

    • @gingerspice108
      @gingerspice108 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember that monte Cristo. I tried to make it at home 😂

    • @pmorton7960
      @pmorton7960 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gingerspice108 the key is you have to make the sandwich, I think it was a light wheat. Ham, cheese, turkey, some sourkraught. Then you wrap it up super tight in seran wrap and refrigerate it overnight. Make a simple beer batter, unwrapping that tight sandwich( oh yeah, gotta cross slice the sandwich before wrapping) and drop it in the hot grease. The key is in the prep though. If the wrap isn't tight enough for long enough the grease gets through the batter and kinda messes up the insides. Good luck!
