yeah, but he actually took his I believe aunt's bike and added a side-car. The gang kept coming around bothering so he went "villain" to get them away. In the end he admits it, and reveals it done. The whole episode clues were pointing to red herring and the gang was infuriated and telling freddy to shut up about too lol.

    • @supersonicheroes
      @supersonicheroes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

Yeah that was a great one. But Freddy agreed to go 24 hours without accusing Red and it was killing him. When Red was revealed to be the monster he threw a big temper tantrum screaming “I knew it!”
Though Red really didn’t do anything illegal. He just dressed as a monster so he could take his aunt’s bike without being recognized, intending to clean it as a surprise birthday gift to her.

In the last issue of the Scooby Doo Team Up comic from DC, they featured different versions of Mystery Inc brought together. When the big villain was unmasked at the end, for ONCE Fred actually got to be right when he said it was Red Herring AND be allowed to say it.

Funny how you don't realize how much something means to you until years later. I watched these when I was little, and I really liked them. But later on they just became a nice memory that would resurface once in a blue moon. Which is exactly the only reason I decided to look this show up again. The last time I thought of it was about a year ago due to something I saw which I thought shared a similar style. Now I realize it's one of my favorite cartoons and I truly wish I still had the DVDs. I once drew the purple monster with the eye below its mouth, likely because it may have been my favorite or at least one of my favorite monsters. This contradicts the story of the “Scooby-Doo : First Frights” game - though I don't think that many of the shows are meant to fit in any universal timeline. Especially with this version's alternate Tex Avery more-wacky-than-usual reality. I forgot about some of the monsters and those memorable dance moves. Especially Velma's. I mean the others' are funny too - but Velma's really stands out. :) And oh what a touching hug from Aunt Thelma! Glad I'm only about three and a half months late to this video; as opposed to years late. May God's blessing, love and grace be bestowed upon you everyone!

And the show summaries have detailed descriptions that allow viewers who have not seen the episodes to get an in-depth analysis. I admit my favorite A Pup Named Scooby-Doo episode is “The Babysitter from Beyond” because it was pretty much the only episode that really broke certain parts of the formula, Red wasn’t in the country so Fred didn’t blame him in the end, and most importantly the culprit was a woman and not “the nice suspect”

Ever notice how the original "Scooby-Doo Where Are You" takes place in the late 1960's so a Pup Named Scooby-Doo was somewhere between 5 and 10 years before so the music in Pup was like late 50's / early 60's style!

It's inescapable looking at Daphne and Velma's costumes, like they just stepped off the set of _A Hard Day's Night._
The period-accurate cheesy slang dialogue also helps sell it, even with the distinctly Reagan-era animation and more 'retreaux' musical style.

But Eddie Guerrerro didn't do the 5 Star Frog Splash, he just did a regular frog splash. Rob Van Dam did the 5 star and it was distinguished by frequently changing angles in midair to hit unideally positioned opponents for a pop of athleticism.

As someone who views "Josie and the Pussycats", "Jabberjaw", "Phunky Phantom", and "Speedbuggy" as the superior media of this genre, I will 100% agree with you that "Pup Named Scooby Doo" is indeed the ABSOLUTE BEST that the Scooby franchise has to offer (and yes, the music has a lot to do with that), but 2nd place goes to "13 Ghost of Scooby Doo", followed by "The Boo Brothers", "The Ghoul School", "The Reluctant Werewolf", and "Scooby Doo Meets Kiss".
Edit: Now that I've seen the whole video, a couple episodes worth mentioning, "Babysitter From Beyond" where Shaggy's baby sister is introduced. Velma's Aunt Thelma wasn't the only family member this series introduced us to and that episode kept me worried for Sugie's wellbeing. "The Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner" this one pulls at the heart strings as Scooby and the gang meet their first ever REAL ghost and he's actually friendly, but his house is at risk of being demolished and if that happens... "POOF" he'll cease to exist. "Chickenstine Lives" Freddy's uncle now owns the 'Exaggerator'. And, my ABSOLUTE favorite; "The Boogie Biker" where Daphne bets Freddy he can't go 24 hours without accusing Red Hearing(a joke that flew over my head until I was in my mid 20's) only for the culprit to ACTUALLY be Red Hearing and not just a fish.

Wow, it’s been forever since I watched A Pup Named Scooby Doo! I don’t remember there being this many undercover agents.
It’s been long enough that I don’t remember the names or all the plot details of my top episodes, but I’ll try: The Shnook Who Took My Comic Book, Wanted Cheddar Alive, & Scooby Dude were all in my top picks too! (bizarrely, my brain seems to have deleted all memory of the drug aesop from Scooby Dude. Personally, I thought the “Dude” repetition was so over-the-top that it bounced back around to hilarious.) My other favorites that didn’t make it into this video are:
    5. The one where Shaggy & Scooby are on a Wheel of Fortune style game show. I don’t remember anything about the monster or the overall plot, just that I loved this episode. The very end, where Scooby & Shaggy beat the 2 snobby genius kids they were competing against, still replays in my mind out of nowhere.
    4. One that took place entirely within the kids’ school after hours. The monster was a helper robot that Velma invented that apparently went rogue (actually someone controlling the robot). Featuring: An aggressive janitor who traveled through the halls in a rowboat, using mops as oars
    3. The one where Scooby’s parents visited. The monster was the “ghost” of a legendary dog catcher who had it in for the Doo family (actually someone who wanted to steal Scooby’s priceless heirloom collar that his parents gifted him). Oh yeah, and we find out that the Doos are even richer than Daphne & Scooby’s doghouse is actually hiding a sprawling underground mansion. Also, this episode started the trend in later Scooby media of Scooby’s first name being Scoobert, and is the first appearance of his siblings (who appear at the end of the episode. I think it was a family reunion??) (*Ruby Doo might have appeared before this in one of the shows with Scrappy, not sure which aired first).
    2. Another monster from the movies, this time with 3 heads, invades Shaggy’s home while he’s babysitting his baby sister Shugie. He can’t contact his parents for whatever reason, so he calls in the gang & they have to solve the mystery while carting around Shugie & her impossibly well-stocked diaper bag. I have vague memories of, even as a kid, thinking the monster’s design could be better (2 of its 3 heads look almost exactly the same). I believe this episode also mentions that Shaggy’s dad is a policeman, which I though was a neat detail.
    1. One where there was actually a real ghost, but he wasn’t the villain. An elderly couple had been sharing their house with a friendly ghost, Mr. Boo, for years. Recently, it seemed that the sweet ghost had turned on them & was trying to drive them out of the house. The ghost revealed himself to the kids, explained that it wasn’t him (but wouldn’t go talk to the couple, for some reason…), and said that if things continued like this, he would simply “poof” into nothingness. The gang decide to help Mr. Boo out. Turns out that the elderly couple are living in prime real estate & several people are interested in buying the land…
Honorable mentions: The one that takes place in a museum (The only thing I remember is the chase scene & the fact that Shaggy made a point to start the chase music on a boombox), and the one time it actually was Red Herring.
Good video, thanks for bringing back childhood memories!

Did anyone remember an episode where Velma disguises herself as a new kid and Fred doesn't recognize her? And in another one he states that the culprit must be Red Harring when he's standing right next to him. :) I don't remember anything else from those episodes. I once drew a picture of that purple monster. I guess I liked him.

      5. _For Letter of Worse_ features a villain being a female blond diva upset that her show was cancelled for the children's game show spoofing Wheel of Fortune & actually dressed up as not just the skeletal ghost of a mobster named Al Cabone (a play on real-life gangster Al Capone), but also dressed up as the janitor, who tried to misdirect the kids away from uncovering the mystery, only for the existence of an oversized ring on her finger giving her guises away, along with the aid of Velma's portable computer tricking the Ghost of Al Cabone into the gang's elaborate trap.
      4. Velma creates the Dinkley 5000, a multi-functional robot meant to assist with common everyday tasks (including playing the chase scene music via its built-in speaker sound system after the gang says, "Start the music", at which point the Dinkley 5000 complies & says in its robotic voice, "Starting music", before pursuing the gang), only for it to seemingly go rouge & nearly cause Velma to get expelled from school due to its malfunctioning & actually stealing not only personal items from the rest of the gang, but also test answers from the school faculty. The culprit turned out to be a rival of Velma's, who was upset that Velma's robot won the school's science fair competition, so he rejiggered the robot in a petty attempt to frame Velma for its stealing things whilst he manually controlled it from the inside, however once the gang remembered that the Dinkley 5000 was natively programmed to do whatever Velma instructed, they simply had Velma overload its circuits with endless tasks until it finally broke down & the truth was revealed after Scooby pulled Velma's scientific rival out of the broken heap of spare parts.
      3. _Case of the Cursed Collar_ was the episode in question & the presumed ghost was the specter of famed dogcatcher Buster McMuttmauler, who had it in for the Doo family, but in the end, the supposed "curse" on the collar -- even if Scooby hated wearing it & was repeatedly keen on just giving it away to the specter, however knowing his parents would've been upset with him for giving a family heirloom away, Scooby was forced to endure having the collar on until near the end of the episode when it was revealed that even his dad hated the collar when it was first put on him years before, but kept it in the family due to its value -- was proven to be faked & the true crook was the helping hand who was supposed to be the one providing the dog food for the Doo family, but was tired of being a human serving dogs when he felt it should've been the other way around & he planned to steal the ugly-looking collar (which was covered in jewels) to get back at the Doos for basically making him their manservant. Ruby Doo, Scooby's sister & Scrappy mother, did appear in an earlier episode of the preceding _Scooby-Doo & Scrappy-Doo_ series where we got to see how Scooby's gung ho nephew was born through Momma & Daddy Doo's memories, however on the _PUP_ series, Scooby & his siblings, including sister Ruby, were all still puppies themselves, since the show devolved Mystery Inc. into literal children as an example of the popular "babification" trope of the era.
      2. _The Babysitter from the Beyond_ introduced the young gang to real world crooks Manny & his female partner Molly the Moll, but for much of the episode, they were trying to keep Shaggy's young sister Sugie safe, because they were scared that the babysitter hired to watch her was secretly Molly in disguise, when in actuality, Molly was roaming around undercover as the 3-headed fictional movie zombie Boogedy Bones. The reason Molly was disguised as Boogedy Bones was because the gang were initially planning to go see a Boogedy Bones feature film before Shaggy felt that he had protect his sister from the strange babysitter his parents had left her with, prompting the rest of the gang to ditch the flick & help out. Manny broke out of prison & came around skulking around the premises, too, however once he and Boogedy Bones were captured & Boogedy Bones was quickly unmasked as Molly in disguise, the conveniently timed 4th wall-interrupting television news reporter & Shaggy's policeman father (who was out on the town with his wife at the local Policeman's Ball, hence why Sugie was meant to be left with a babysitter whilst Shaggy & gang went to the Boogedy Bones movie) revealed that the babysitter was just that, an eccentrically-dressed babysitter (since I doubt Shaggy & Sugie's dad, as a local policeman, would hire anyone truly nefarious to look after his toddler daughter), meanwhile the entire reason that both Manny & Molly had been around the house at all was, in fact, because they had long-ago buried a bunch of stolen loot in the family basement unbeknownst to everyone & Molly became Boogedy Bones to try & frighten both the gang as well as the hired babysitter away so she could get to the stolen goods before Manny could break free from prison, but he got there before she could made good her escape.
Honorable Mention 1: _Now Museum, Now You Don't_ featured a samurai ghost, who could've been one of three suspects (1. Museum curator Mr. Dayton, 2. The female tour guide who took the neighborhood children to the museum, 3. The museum's guard Mr. Thornsby). Funnily enough, at first, it was initially thought by Red Herring, Mr. Dayton, and Mr. Thornsby that Shaggy & Scooby had stolen the antique swords that were worth a fortune which the samurai ghost had taken (and this was because the "local kid & his puppy" were the only ones in the room when the theft took place & were the only ones to see the samurai ghost take the priceless ancient weapons before seemingly floating away), leading to even the show runners jokingly putting up text on-screen listing them as primary suspects, much to their dismayed chagrin ("Hey, we can't be crooks! We're the stars of the show!" "Yeah, stars!"). Mr. Dayton warns Mr. Thornsby that he needed to reclaim those missing swords before the museum curator left town or else, Mr. Thornsby would be fired from his job as museum guard. However, when Mr. Dayton departs with a pleading Mr. Thornsby on his heels trying to keep his job, a one-way plane ticket (a CLUE) curiously drops out of Mr. Dayton's pants pocket, which the kids confiscate for later. Soon, upon stumbling across the stolen swords hidden in a secret room located elsewhere in the museum, Velma has the gang make some phony prop swords to pose as the originals, knowing the samurai ghost would come to get them after noticing the originals had went missing from where the samurai ghost had hidden them. However, when the samurai ghost does show up, Velma speaks to him in perfect Japanese, but the samurai ghost clearly doesn't understand her & still runs off with the phony prop swords anyway. Velma informs the rest of the gang that she outright told the samurai ghost that "Those swords are fake" in Japanese, prompting Daphne to ponder exactly why a ghost based around an old Japanese art of fighting couldn't understand native Japanese. In the end, the samurai ghost was revealed to be none other than the museum curator Mr. Dayton, with the female Tour Guide thankful for the return of the stolen swords (appropriately thanking Velma in native Japanese, which Velma responds back in kind) & the guard Mr. Thornsby making light of the situation whilst handcuffing his former employer ("And you were going to fire me! Well, come on, mister curator, you're going to jail!") before leading him away.
Honorable Mention 2: In _Night of the Boogie Biker_ the gang is fed up with Freddy accusing local bully Red Herring as being the culprit behind all of their cases (because most of the time, Red Herring is simply that, a recurring gag to poke fun at what red herrings actually are in relation to mystery stories), so they bet that he couldn't stand even 24 hrs. without accusing Red even once & Freddy accepts the challenge. Coincidentally enough, Red Herring himself actually hires the gang to look after his Great-Aunt Hedda's prized bicycle (back in her day, she was a skilled racer & her bicycle won her acclaim until she became embittered & old), only for it to mysteriously go missing & end up in the hands of a thief calling himself the Boogie Biker. In the end, despite going the entire episode without framing his nemesis for the theft, it turns out that the Boogie Biker who stole Great-Aunt Hedda's bicycle was, indeed, Red Herring all along in a surprise twist of fate. At this revelation, the rest of the gang is shocked whilst Freddy has a severe emotional breakdown, claiming that he knew Red Herring was behind the ruse all along, but couldn't say anything due to the bet he & the rest of the gang made still being in effect for the entire day. When pressed by Daphne & Velma about why he himself stole his Great-Aunt's bicycle after paying them to look after it, Red Herring admits he did it to keep the gang off his trail, because he decided to spruce up the old bicycle with a new paint job & add on a side car so his Great-Aunt Hedda would have a place to store her groceries when she went shopping. It was then that he realized that if word got out about this kind gesture, then his tough guy image would've been sullied, so he donned the guise of the Boogie Biker to keep the gang from intruding when he was trying to keep his upgrades to the bicycle a guarded secret to protect his reputation.

Once, literally once, Red Herring was the villain of the week, and his explicit reasoning was that Freddy has been accusing him for so long, that he wanted to actually do the thing for once to either... throw Fred a bone, or so that it'd stop being a false accusation.

One thing about kid versions of shows is that they tend to just completely mess with the person's personality to the point they seem like entirely different characters. For example in Baby Looney Tunes, Sylvester and Tweety are best friends despite in the core Looney Tunes, their mortal enemies because of Sylvester constantly trying to eat Tweety. However, not only A Pup Named Scooby Doo kept all of the character's personalities in check, they added another layer to make them even more stand out and funnier. Best example is Fred who many say in the main Scooby Doo series has next to no personality besides being the leader. In this series, he is much more spunkier and eager to lead and catch the villains not to mention his hilarious Red Herring running gag. This series alongside Mystery Incorporated I consider the best versions of Scooby Doo period

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh

Yep. Jailbird Barbara was the personal assistant to the female mayor of Coolsville, Carole Colossal. Previously, Barbara had been exposed as the woman behind the Chickenstein hoax in a prior episode, however she was let out of jail on parole & still employed as Ms. Colossal's personal assistant on loan from the town prison (when questioned about this, the female mayor admits to the gang that "It is so hard to find good help these days") when the female politician purchased the CWF (Coosville Wrestling Federation) due to the strong popularity of pro wrestling at the time. Unfortunately for her, it turned out that the CWF was being harassed by a ghost cow wrestler named The Hooded Heifer. Initially, the gang thought that greasy slimeball Mr. Scuzzball could've been the monster due to his kayfabe heelish antics, including beating his own mother, geriatric wrestler Granny Gator, in the last intergender match they had together. Mr. Scuzzball did write a letter of apology to his mother in an attempt to make amends, however The Hooded Heifer had stolen the letter before it could be delivered, leading to Granny Gator grabbing her son by the ear & giving him the dreaded Ear Lock as he pleaded for her to forgive him. The gang also suspected the Swindelson Brothers, a duo of lookalike twins running a rival promotion, whose star was also their personal accountant named Neville. Upon being questioned about their possible ties to The Hooded Heifer since the ghost cow wrestler was threatening to put the CWF out of business, which would've left the Swindleson Brothers company as the only promotion left standing, they called upon Neville to promptly eject the gang out of their building using a simple calculator. The gang also suspected a burly wrestler in a Little Bo Peep costume that called himself Little Bo Peter who also had literal sheep as his tag team partners, because he wanted to be a real wrestler, but Carole Colossal laughed at his costume, so he was preparing to join the Swindelson Brothers promotion, since they readily accepted him for who he was, silly gimmick & all. Throughout the _Wrestle Maniacs_ episode, there was a running gag about nearly everyone they gang suspected abhorring BBQ sauce, which was a natural weakness for The Hooded Heifer, since it was, after all just a ghost cow wrestler & cows do get turned into hamburger, which can be doused in BBQ sauce for seasoning. In the end, the true culprit was named Hubert Blob, however when the rest of the gang reacted with confusion, Velma -- who was a "mark" for the business, since "these gladiatorial encounters get me excited" (Just don't tell Velma that it's all scripted with predetermined outcomes, then, because "it's still real to me, damn it") -- put a identifiable blond hair piece onto Hubert Blob's head, revealing him to be the CWF's disgruntled face of the company, The Cosmic Comet, who was sick of being exploited by the powers that be, so he planned to shut the CWF down until he was given what he felt he was owed.

I had am class in kindergarten (there was am and pm), we lived on fort meade because my dad was military. I got out of class around noon so I would come home and my mom would make one of those small microwave pizzas (the ones in the red box called Celeste) and she would eat half and I would eat half for lunch and watch a pup named scooby doo (which was always on at 1230 during the week). I have so many great memories watching this show with my mom when my parents were still together and things were good. I remember when 911 happened since we were on a military base so close to New York we were evacuated and there was guards all over and at every street and we got stopped on the way home from school at a checkpoint that normally wasn't there, my mom was listening to the radio and crying and I didn't understand what was happening, when we came home there was no pizza and scooby doo wasn't on that day, it was only video of the towers being hit and I remember my dad coming home and crying being he was on the phone with a friend of his who was in the first building when it got hit and told him he thought there was an earth quake and he had to go, and when my dad heard what happened he started freaking out... his friend didn't end up making it . I remember him because he had a bald head and he use to let me rub his head and pretend it was a mirror 😂 idk why I thought it was so funny cus I was a baby pretty much and he was really nice for letting me annoy him like that. Anyways this show was very important to me in kindergarten because for that year of school it was always on when I got out of school and I was able to really bond with my mom before starting real school full time. Those red pizzas and this show always give me a huge rush of nostalgia .

'A Pup Named Scooby-Doo' would be kind of a precursor to 'Tiny Toon Adventures' due to the fact that Tom Ruegger worked on this show, and Glenn Kennedy would provide the show's bouncy animation style. Both of which would carry over to 'Tiny Toons'. As for MY favorite incarnation of 'Scooby-Doo', that honor goes to 'Mystery Incorporated'.

For me it would have to be the babysitter episode. Not so much the episode itself but the song Bad Guys is my all time favorite 🎵 ❤

I remember this show as a kid. One of my personal favorites was "Now Museum, Now you Don't" where Shaggy is blamed for a robbery at a museum after a ghost steals cursed samurai swords. (I guess it's because I like mysteries where someone is framed and they have to prove their innocence.)
Plus I thought it was funny when Red Herring was chased by an angry mother while she was hitting him with her purse.

"would reign supreme"--- Zombie Island. Amazing zombie movie in itself, let alone a Scooby Doo stand alone

Whenever I stayed home from school i'd watch A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Tiny Toons Adventures, and The Price Is Right. In that order.
