- Destiny 2's Lore tells us of a well-known story with Mara and Shaxx, but the common interpretation of its meaning is probably wrong. Let's explore some of the lore that shows us why that's the case.

The important takeaway from all of this lore is that there is a 12 shot combination on the wall of wishes that summons Shaxx. Get on that r/raidsecrets

All this time people have been speculating wish 15 when we already know what it does AND how many shots it takes. Smh.

A 12 shot combination for wish-15 narrows things down a bit, but it still would take a while as a community to brute-force. There are 20 spots on the wall, so 12 shots would mean 20 to the 12th power possibilities. This is 4.096 quadrillion possible combinations. Even if 2 million people were working on solving it, it would require each of them to enter 2.048 BILLION combinations.
I think the 12-shot clue really might be a hint if there is a 15th wish, but we still would need more clues to narrow it down more. This alone isn't enough to make guessing the code feasible.

As fun as having Sjur Eido in the game sounds, I have to ask: what happens to poor Petra? She worked hard to get where she is and is one of my favorite characters.
Sjur would probably honor Petra’s position as Queen’s Wrath and start a point of contact for traversing the Ascendant Realm, or some other aspect of the Dreaming City we don’t know about yet. O_o Just a personal theory!

The play, combined with his name, accent, and generally dramatic air, always made me support the theory that Shaxx is William Shakespeare resurrected. He probably isn't, but it's fun to think about.
Side note: how long after death can someone no longer be Risen by a Ghost? Is there even a limit? Interesting to consider.

The limit is probably on how long it take a body to decay beyond retrieval, because I’m pretty certain that ghosts need something to work with.
Osiris(sus), Cayde and ghosts have implied that there still needs to be an inkling of Light left in the body in order to bring a guardian back.
Do the bodies of dead people before becoming Risen have any Light in them? Who knows.
Do only the bodies (lives) of people whom the Traveler witnessed after its arrival count? Who knows.

Isn't it dangerous to say "Wish" out loud in the Dreaming City? The Tempest uses the word wish at least 5 times and she had him read it out loud

Ahamkara don't need you to say anything to grant a wish, they can sense your thoughts
@@cmpowell1587 that’s exactly how our home girl riven caused the dreaming city’s cycle. If you even _think of it_ ,an ahamkara can read those thoughts and, given enough power/wish for it to be true, it will happen
Yeah, but this was wishing to pre-Taken Riven, who was fairly chill by Ahamkara standards. Mara Sov held court in the Dreaming City with Riven in the room on a fairly regular basis. Petra was even named Wrath with Riven present (which honestly explains a few things if you think about it), so the side effects were likely minimal here, wish-wise.

Nah. All the fanfics I’ve ever seen were Sjur/Mara. It’s very apparent that hardly anyone truly cared for the nonexistent ‘relationship’ between the two, they just enjoyed inserting themselves on Shaxx.

She’s be fine, she’s on par as powerful as we are and in many way more so. She also has a throne world, so just a quick little trip.
yea, "the helmet stayed on" is fairly obviously meant to signify "they stayed clothed" aka, no sexytimes were had.
But by god, I love the meme of Shaxx being such a character that he even bangs in his helmet, too good to abandon.
So, that's why I keep my use of the quote the same.
He can't find it in the settings. That said, he seems to have found out how to remove everything else when nobody else can. He's either a genius, or ignorant to the laws of Destiny. Either way, the helmet stays on.
It fairly obviously doesn't indicate that. No one would equate "helmet stayed on" to "they stayed clothed". Hence why the meme even exists.
His Helmet must be special, i bet it has atleast 2 stats on 100 by default🤔
At one point there must've been a threesome between Sjur, Mara and Shaxx. Mara is that bitchy type that would turn down Shaxx only to invite him later to her place.
Shaxx always wears his helmet afaik he hasn't took it off, the line "the helmet stayed on" is meant to make a joke that when he does the deed he still wears it, but it is given a different meaning if you realise that they were talking about Sjur eido and that he kept the helmet on likely to hide his face and his emotions while he talks with mara.
Sjur deserves a huge spotlight. She’s incredible! I hope she really does come back.
Don't know if I can forgive her for the harbinger's echo grind though. Maybe if she gives me a new gun, that isn't wish-ender.

Maybe Mara is using her own throne world to keep her Alive somewhat? Like lending her her own throne world to cheat death, but its been taking a lot longer because of the curse of the city?

relationships in Destiny are sometimes clear cut or the lore is weird about it and in game dialogue has a tone of we haven't made up our mind on this. I'd would like to think that Shaxx MAY have loved Sjur Eido also had a brief relationship with her and giving a bow to Mara might have been his way of telling his feelings about Sjur. plus the tempest reading might have been Mara going "Hey we both loved her". let a guardian dream okay.
I like this too, I think him saying he knows it by heart is a way of him saying “I knew her as a lover”. But maybe I’m reaching.

Sjur has become one of my favorite figures in Awoken lore. She sounds like a kind hearted but suffer no fool type. Why she was with Mara, who is easily the Cersei Lannister of Destiny, I will never know. I hope we get more about her this season, even just one little lore nugget I will be super pleased.

I really do believe now that the Helmet Stayed On... to hide his tears. They joined together to remember someone they both deeply cared for, and in doing so created an incredibly vulnerable and touching moment between the two of them. I personally like the lore tab more now
I came here for the 'tongue in cheek' story and got an emotional backhand that makes me want that bow even more now. God I love Destiny.

@@Tracker947 Uh, Sjur’s bow is Wish Ender. There is also a statue of her on the bow and a real statue in The Shattered Throne.
The return of Sjur would be a genius move on Bungie's side, since Sjur could be a connection between Guardians, the Eliksni (thinking of Mithrax) and the Awoken of the Reef.
Or think of us saving Sjur from whatever it may be. Could there be a better way of earning Maras "trust"?
There is so much potencial there, I really hope we get to see her one day.

can you do a video on the aphelion? i've looked everywhere through the lore for them and the more i find about them the more interesting they are
so far the key points of what i know
1. they are found on Europa and around the Dreaming city
2. their was likely an Aphelion involved in the Glykon incident
3. us as guardians are no match for them, a single one managed to cause a SKSCHOCK level incident, which previously only the traveler and darkness could, also in one of Calus's visions a single one wiped out the entirety of the Hellas basin on mars (although these visions are usually fairly in-accurate, so take that with a pinch of salt)
4. they are glow-y bois
5. it was said "no matter how many gods you've killed pray you dont meet the aphelion, for you will not survive" by a techeun
6. they are likely what Cayde and the drifter met on europa, and have the ability to strip guardians of their light
i know a decent bit more then this, but these are the key points and i can describe them more in detail if anyone is interested
I bet that will be expanded upon by lightfall, and probably after the light vs dark saga there will be an aphelion vs (….) saga.

I admit that I didn’t really learn anything from the video, but had my suspicions confirmed. I never bought it that Mara would be interested in Shax. She BARELY trusts guardians, much less would take one as a lover.

I love this lore. The idea that anyone could make Shaxx be awestruck so easily, and that she killed him with four arrows. That's a true warrior. Eido was n Awoken Warrior Goddess The closest thing in Destiny to the Amazonian warrior Women of trope culture. and more than that, from your reading, to me, his tone showed more than just awe, there was a hint of something warm afuzzy starting in that moment, because normally it took armies to take him down. She used a Bow.

i think this makes much more sense and im always glad to hear more about Sjur, and Orin. my only gripe is in my personal headcannon its not the Shakespeare Story they recite, its the song lyrics to The Tempest by Bob Dylan, a lot of similar tones and imagery in the song and the destiny universe

With this new bit of context, "the helmet stayed on" makes absolutely no sense. Why wouldn't t the helmet stay on? If all they were doing was talking. We know shaxx doesn't take his helmet off
because if you recite a 3+-hour play, performing all the parts, without sitting down, it makes sense to take your helmet off and relax. Shaxx doesn’t. (because he never does.)
The lore tab reads like fan fiction and no amount of clarifications can really change that

I loved the interaction between Missraks and Shaxx, talking about how much of a monster they were, even to their own people.
I would love to see an interaction between Missraks and Shaxx, talking about Sjur Eido. Possibly when Shaxx learns of Missraks's daughter's name.
Ehhhh, I'm pretty sure they still fucked. That "The helmet stayed on" line is a little too direct to be misinterpreted, not unless you are actively trying to disregard the clear implication there.
I also think that the argument that Mara distrusted Shaxx for his status as a guardian falls pretty flat, for the simple reason that she went out of her way to summon him in the first place. If Mara just wanted to reminisce on her lover with someone else who knew her well, than there were surely other reef awoken - or otherwise friends of Sjur - that she could could have done so with. Sjur was clearly a social individual who had friends even outside of her reclusive people, given her relations with Mithraks and Shaxx; surely she had close, non-guardian friends that Mara could have turned too. And yet, Mara goes out of her way to use her wish wall - a very secret tool in a city that only awoken and their closest allies could enter, and that guardians distinctly couldn't at the time of this event - to summon Shaxx specifically. His utter lack of shock at being so suddenly confronted with the awoken queen - and in such a manner - also suggest that this situation isn't overly unusual, and that they were likely personally familiar outside of their mutual acquaintance in Sjur. That Shaxx knew Mara well enough to even consider her a romantic interest further supports this conclusion
Point is, while I certainly agree that the clear reference to Sjur's title implies her memory was a focus of their visit, Shaxx stayed with Mara for a long time, and reminiscing on the beloved past was probably the most innocent thing the two got up to in that time

I'd say largely as a community there is a fundamental misunderstanding of Queen Mara as a person. As with most insanely brilliant strategist they'll always keep you guessing. Currently she is now being blamed for Cayde's death when they couldn't be further from the truth.

Funny you should mention Eva Levante. I assume no one really does the Solstice bounties, but there is one Void bounty that raises many questions and alarms. The flavor text for the one called “A Nova One Bites The Dust” reads:
“Ikora said she needed a Void Guardian to handle a 'Hive problem.' Does that make you all the best at sword logic? No one's been able to explain sword logic to me in a way that's satisfying. For example, Shaxx fears me, but not because I'm stronger than him. How does sword logic account for that?" -Eva Levante

I think they still banged. Yes, the whole tempest reading was mourning their lost loved one, but its not unusual for that kind of thing to lead into another kind of thing. People sometimes do things they might regret the next morning when they're sad
Edit: Mara and Sjur also grew apart long before her death, shortly after they had left the distributary, as Mara was turning into a god, and the power dynamic changed their relationship

to be fair byf, you tend to get your information from multiple sources, including the community around you, and you present that information in an entierly unbiased manor. you give us the documented facts, lore cards, or even cut scenes and/or dialog transmissions. but you never treat any speculative/missing part as "this IS what it is". you clearly and openly say its what you think MAY be the case and to "take it with a grain of salt". and even after stating that you still ask what we think on the matter just to see other prospective or maybe to see any info you may have missed. you dont pretend to give us answers. you give us THE LORE, and work with your community to find it.

The interesting thing is, my interpretation was Shax had fallen for Eido, not Mara. The tab on the Vow bow suggested, to me at least, that it was meant for Eido, not Mara, as he was certian that it would be used, however Shax was clearly nervous, and perhaps apprehensive and gave up due to his uncertanty. This conclusion was further supported in my mind as in another tab, Shax says he remembers the book off by heart, and as we all know Shax is a passtionate person, I believed that to simply mean his passion for Eido lead him to do that.
Perhaps this thinking is flawed, Im not here to say it isnt. But I still prefer to think it wasnt Mara Shax fell for, it was Eido.
I also recall a law tab somewhere where it said, and im paraphrasing here; 'I felt hatred burning within due to my betrayal as the Queens first Wrath', or at least along those lines.
That made me think that perhaps Mara did something to upset Eido, resulting in her anger. But again I do not remember it properly.
Perhaps there is some learnerd Loremaster about I can interrogate about this, so I can 'brush up', so to speak...

Hey you know you bring a lot of facts and good points to the table but I’m going to choose to ignore this and say that “the helmet stayed on, everything else did not.”
I'd like to pose not a rebuttal, but a possibility. It could be possible that, in a moment of sharing their experiences with Eido. In reflecting of the bonds that Mara and Shaxx had with her, they could have still been intimate. It's no secret that the heart is mysterious, complicated. Stories like Twilight have shown examples of a character having a one true love. Yet still have a time period, even if brief, showing interest in a other character. Referring to Bella and Edward, then insert Jacob in the second book. The great thing is that it's all open to interpretation and that's why the story of Destiny is still captivating. For Shaxx to be captivated by someone to the point of wanting to be with them. To gift them someone of significance (in his eyes). I think it would have to take something grand, more than a reading of a book, to do so. From something as small as a kiss to a night of copulation lol. Just my opinion.
