- Aunt Cathy joined The Dale Jr. Download and talked about how she always wanted to be one of the boys. She told Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt how much she loved washing parts in Ralph' Earnhardt's backyard racing shop. But soon came womanhood and she was removed from the male-dominated garage. That was a tough pill to swallow. Ya see, Cathy was born into a true passion for racing. A few years later, Cathy was able to show her racing worth in what was then known as "Powder-Puff" races. The all-female races were an added bonus to a local short track racing program. But to an Earnhardt, it was a chance to win. In a span of decade, Cathy went ten-for-ten in Powder Puff events to become the only undefeated Earnhardt.
Aunt Cathy is awesome! What a treasure, thank you for sharing those great memories!
So is her niece and nephew.
I think you should have a after broadcast, like Kerry's apperance. She is part of the Earnhardt Dynasty. Love her stories, and felt so privileged to enjoy this, and hear and see her own racing career.
I totally enjoy when you interview family members and we get to hear about your Grandfather, Dad, Kelly, Kerry and You. I also enjoy the stories about Amy and the girls. They are some great family stories. Aunt Cathy has some super stories.
Aunt Cathy is the best storytelling woman! Yall are blessed to have her in your life! She is a gift! ☺
Priceless.
Gosh Kelly and Aunt Cathy favor each other so much in Kathy's younger pictures, it's uncanny. Meanwhile, Jr., I think a ride along in today's equipment is a must do!!
You can tell Aunt Kathy still has it in her after all these years. I thought her enthusiasm demonstrated how much she really loves and misses racing. your never too old Aunt Kathy.
Dale I've been a fan since I was 8 years old. Mainly because your number was 8 at the time. The first race I watched routing for you was the daytona 500 in 2004. It's awesome to see how humble you are and definitely choose the right favorite racecar driver..
Man you Earnhardts are a talented bunch. 🏁
I could listen to Aunt Cathy for hours...need to have her back...
That interview chocked me up...So so humble
The whole family rocks! My son and I were digging through our Pixar Cars Movie Cars last night, found our #8 Dale Jr. car.
Kelly and Dale, thank you so much for bringing your Aunt on the show. It was a great show hearing more about your family growing up. Love you guys so much ❤❤❤
Hello from Ontario Canada!
I’ve been a fan of sr since I started watching racing in the early 80’s, then after your dads death followed you for your entire career, I wish I’d known then what we are all learning now about your family! Jr. You’re an absolute PERFECT racing ambassador and nascar historian. Thank you and Kelly for allowing us more insight into what is truly a one of a kind family story as seen through the eyes of your aunt.
I only wish the movie had of gotten so many more things correct to do your dad and family proper homage.
Keep on being your humble self and opening up nascar history and back stories for us!
~cheers
Aaron
Very well said Sir!🫡
Awesome auntie ! Great story. Maybe jr girls will follow the "family business ". What a great legacy aunt Cathy has left for the Earnhardt women.
This is so endearing. What a family treasure you have Dale and Kelly. My late mother lived around the corner from your late Grandmother Martha and attended church with her. Mom said Martha was the nicest most humble friend she’d ever had with no pretense to her family’s fame. She said Martha told her she loved and appreciated all of her children equally. You rock Aunt Cathy, as you embody that spirit of the gracious Earnhardt family!
My Mom drove Powder puff she's in the book long story on a short track! Going to Australia to represent USA! THESE ARE GREAT LADIES OF RACING TELLING REAL STORIES! SENDING MY LOVE FROM ONE RACE FAMILY TO ANOTHER RACE FAMILY!!!🇺🇸🏁💙❤
Aunt Cathy is a national treasure. Hope she comes back. What a lady.
Truly enjoyed listening about the family.
Dale thanks for sharing this.
I've said this before on YT, each week I am continually impressed with the caliber of conversations the guests bring. But damn, Aunt Cathy brought it all! The passion and emotion she shared when telling her story. Wow. I want to give her a hug. Amazing!
I have listened to every episode and this has to be my favorite!
The stories about Dale Sr. are worth clicking on. Wish the full podcasts were on TH-cam
The new music is rad, Dale !
Aunt Cathy kicked butt and took names !
Love these stories! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing this interview with you aunt Cathy !
I often wondered over the years how she was doing after I left Kannapolis and moved back to Ga.
I was a co working supervisor with her at sames level in a different dept, and she taught our Quality classes in the mid 80s after David Murdock bought the company out.
She was a really great instructor, and very smart.
Great interview!
We need to see the powder puff race with Sharon!
Really loved this episode and the stories shared. I also love Kelly and wish (though understand why she didn't) she could have showed everyone what I got to see in her at Myrtle Beach. She was one hell of a driver and not going to lie had a big crush on her when we were younger. She would have won some races on the big stage if she had taken that route.
Encore. Cathy deserves a 2nd session. God bless your family Jr
Great Show
That's a good story my mom won several powder puff races in the early sixties and also turned one of Dad's old cars over one night and didn't get a scratch out of it they were a little on the wild side I believe LOL 🤣
Powerpuff races seemed to disappear at all tracks about that time after a wreck at Laurens County SC Speedway when a car jumped the inside guardrail and came in the infield airborne and landed on it's own trailer , injuring 5 people and killing 1 person . My uncle was standing on that trailer and got his foot almost cut off . It was just dangling, but he insisted they try to save it and they did
I love Aunt Cathy!
I wish she had gotten an opportunity!
Samething with Kelly!
Any member of Earnhardt Family still around is a treasure to listen too - Teresa sure as hell isn't one
Teresa is not a Earnhardt. She just married 1 because she could see he was going to be rich real soon afterwards
I know she's not - Don't need to tell me
Cathy is awesome
Cathy you make the rest of us girls proud.
Aunt Cathy is an incredibly amazing lady.
Such a “What If” for all we know Aunt Cathy coulda been one of the greatest drivers ever. If only the opportunities woulda been there like we have today
What a great story
this is soo cool
Aunt Cathy merch! ASAP!
Where can we find that Sunbelt video? Is it posted anywhere?
Fun interview!
I can't find the video on Ms Cathy racing on TH-cam I really would like to see that
My kind of woman👍
Love this story and I’m only in 1:32
And to think Ralph planted the seeds for all of this!
How about a TH-cam link for the video of her race?!?
In true Earnhardt fashion
Wish Aunt Cathy had the chance to race in NASCAR with Dale Sr. And Dale Jr. can you imagine? 3 Earnhardts in same race!!!??? Oh my gosh! 1,2,3! Who would finish 1 and 2??
NICE NICE NICE NICE
THANK UUUUUUUUUU
The racing bug doesn't care who it bites. :)
does anyone know where that footage of that race is
Can this race be found on youtube?
I came here for a link to Cathy’s powder puff race
If Kelly had drove a Cup car, she would have won a championship. She still can and has plenty of time.
hate to be that guy but it's Kelley
I met a guy at a bar, that claimed to be an ASA crew chief, for Jimmie Johnson, and told me that Dale and Kelly were in ASA at that time and that Kelly was twice the driver that Dale was.
Sounds like a solid source
All the more Reason to publish entire Video of interview Somewhere... Spotify is 100% doable.. Cameras are recording anyway...
How would that go over today?
Aunt Cathy needs a late model testing day somewhere
Dale when will u have a f1 driver on like Lewis Hamilton
he has had a few
Yeah but a race like that just wouldn't happen. Awesome it did though.
The opportunity for women to drive a race car in 2022 is just ho hum okay it's still not where it should be by a long shot. In my opinion there should be at least 10 women driving every race by now. Unfortunately NASCAR is still a good old boy run sport n there's still the old feelings of men are better drivers. But only because a woman hasn't had enough success n wins in NASCAR.
His sister should be there every week....davis doesnt add crap to this forum and Is annoying as hell.
I agree. I love Kelley Earnhardt. She’s a very smart woman And she’s much easier on the eyes than Davis.
She is running JRM. Doing way too much already, but she definitely adds something extra.
I don't hate Mr.Davis but I feel in the last few episodes whenever they have someone on the show, he does all talking and kind of interrupts the guests almost constantly like in a Howard Stern kind of way like he's trying to take over the lead host of the show from Jr. . So I feel like there is a little bit of jealously from him towards Dale Jr. and whatever guest they invite to do an episode together.
Kelly is and always will be the perfect sidekick host for Dale Jr!
Lol!!!! I like Mike Davis, hes a cool dude.
Hopefully Jr and Amy never divorce. Sounds like what all the Earnhardts have in common is divorce
Boy if I wasn’t married.
What?
