    Master Fader 5 with DL232R- In MF 5 is there a "single pane" that will allow you to see all settings for a single input channel. For example... during an event I would like to closely inspect / tweak Julie's voice on input 1... I would like to see / be able to change all her effects/comp/gate/eq/routing on one tab page without having to bounce around to the various tabs for her levels... I could not find a tab for the channel strips that might do this... if at all possible. Thanks for any insight/guidance/recommendations you can provide.

    Very nice tutorial, may ask you is there a way on how to eliminate feedback on microphone on this mackie dl32s ? Thanks

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      acoustic feedback can only be controlled by an audio engineer who understands, and has the ability (experience) to lower the gain of the offending frequency. So the answer to your question is,...... NO. If you do not have that experience, simply turn the volume down. Many users get ridiculous feedback because they have used outrageous amounts of EQ. EQ can make or break your sound. Always start without any EQ. (flat) only use EQ if something needs to be "fixed".

    When you use the HPF to roll off the bottom end to clean up the top speakers, won’t that take from the subwoofers as well?

    Just watched all your videos on this mixer. Very educative. What settings will you recommend for a Dj with same mixer .my main output will be my front speakers, ch1 and 2 will be my output for my dj controller and Aux 1 being my two subs. Thanks

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it sounds to me like you have it all figured out as to what connects to what :)
      Always start without any EQ, compression and certainly no gates. Make sure your Aux 1 that is being used for your sub/s is set to "Post Fader" that way when you turn inputs up and down not only will your main speakers change, but so will your sub, this will provide consistent balance between your main speakers and your sub/s. This aux output that is for your subs will also allow you to send only sounds that contain significant low-end and are worthy of going to the subs. The microphone for your announcements and such should NOT be routed to the subs. Have fun!

  • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
    @user-jx3jp3gb4x  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Grupo, with your top speakers daisy-chaining out of the subs, it is possible that the sub outputs that your tops are connected to already provide a certain amount of filtering via a high pass filter. What brand and model are they? If they are just (pass-though) connectors, there isn't anything you can do for your tops to filter out low frequencies apart from settings that may be available on the tops and/or connecting the tops directly from the mixer's left and right outputs instead of the subs, and then use a separate mono output mix for the subs. The latter is the best way because you would only route things that have good low frequency content like kick drum, bass, keys, etc. this gives far better sound and also allows you to control the system with more precision. Some people don't like using a separate mix for subs but it is wonderful. One more question for you, what brand and model top cabinets are you using? Oh, to answer one of your questions.... using the EQ to filter out lows will indeed take away from the subs.

      dankurydotcom our rig consists of Qsc kw153 for mids and Qsc kw181 for subs.

    • @lareservaespecial7366
      @lareservaespecial7366 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dankurydotcom also how do I go about creating a mono mix?

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On both K181 subs, set the mode switch to "normal". On both K153 top cabinets, set the LF switch (upper left switch) to "external sub", this will filter out frequencies below 100 hertz for the top cabinets. If you want to use the subs with a separate feed from The DL mixer, simply connect an XLR cable from the mix that you want to use, then make sure and name it "SUBS". That one XLR cable will logically connect to the sub that is closest to the DL mixer, then daisy-chain that sub to the other one. The two stereo KW153 top speakers will each need an XLR cable from the main L/R outputs.
      Now, back in the Master Fader app, click to view the SUBS mix.
      Turn all the input channel faders all the way down (off) except for the channels that have decent bass response like kick drum, bass guitar, key bass, keyboards, floor tom etc. then set those channel faders to zero db (not off) zero db. Finally, just above the master fader for the "SUBS" mix, click on the small white window just above the MUTE button and set this "SUBS" mix to "post fader". As you raise and lower the main L/R channel faders for kick, bass etc,... those faders feed the SUB levels because the faders in the sub mix are POST fader (after the main L/R faders). There should be no reason whatsover to use any EQ in the SUBS mix,

    Love it! So excited to get this entire set up. The DC16 connects to the DL32r wirelessly right? Like no need to run a cat 5 cable or any type of snake?

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the Mackie AXIS DC16 must have a single CAT 5 cable connected to the DL32R's optionally installed Dante card.
      There are so many advantages of Dante, for instance, you could have a DC16 for front of house mix and it would be connected to a DL32R by the stage, and then, the DL32R's second CAT5 connector (on the Dante card) could connect to a second DL32R that could be used for monitors, this would allow the input channels to feed both DL32R mixers, but the two DL32R mixers would not have to share any of the processing like EQ, compression, etc. Front of house can be completely different than the monitor DL32R. Also, a Dante card in the rear of the DL32R can share channels of audio with a digital console of any other manufacturer that is Dante compatible. Dante has changed everything about "this and that" NOT being compatibal to... OH YES IT IS :)

    Thank you so much for this! I just sold my old skool but still very nice PA gear and invested in all powered speakers along with the Mackie DL1608 board. I was a little freaked at first but after getting into it and watching your videos and a few others I am good to go!I know how much you hate the SM58 mics, but like you said everyone likes them and that is the case in my band. Any chance I could get your SM58 EQ preset?

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't hate the SM58 as much as I say I do... :) I shouldn't be like that :) The sad thing to me is that most people who like the 58 have never heard a side by side comparison between a 58 and an AKG C535EB mic. If they did, they would never want to use a 58 again. Feel free to go to my website and send me an email and ask me for the 58 preset, I am happy to share it. You can try it and if it doesn't work for you no harm :) Oh by the way,, congrats on your new gear... :)

    Good Morning, Im very interested in the part of your video where you talk about (min26:56) LR EQ and using the High pass filter to take bass of main speakers. The way our sound is setup is from the Mixer to LR subfoower and then daisy chained into the LR mids respectively. Will using the main EQ help the way I have things setup? will it take away from our subwoofers? or what is the best way link speakers to our mixer? sorry for the loaded question. P.S. still waiting in the video on gates and compressors :)

    When will we see a update for master fader do they take suggestions? I’d like to see microphones presets like SM58 or SM58 Beata as examples

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't imagine that Mackie would not be working on another update, however, in my opinion, a preset for an SM58 or any microphone for that matter is pointless. The only way they could do that for you is to have your speaker system and singers, and even then, it would be the opinion of just one person to decide what sounds best. Most anyone with good knowledge of sound would start out without any EQ, but a high pass filter (low filter) set to around 90 hertz will mostly eliminate any nasty pop sounds that are blasted into the microphone's windsreen when a B, P, T or S is pronounced. No matter what anybody says, including me, trust your ears and always try to stay away from EQ, compressors and especially gates UNLESS you know EXACTLY what to do with them. I guarantee you will have better sound leaving those things bypassed compared to just moving adjustments around hoping to get better sound. The best thing to do if you want better sounding vocals is to get a nicer sounding mic. Sennheiser and AKG both make dynamic and condensor mics that will put a Shure 58 to shame. Just my opinion :)

  • @immortalimagesmich
    @immortalimagesmich ปีที่แล้ว

    I would love to see how to set the eq’s for a violin.

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the equalization we use will always be determined by the task at hand. Are we mixing live sound? Are we mixing for a CD/album? Are we setting the EQ for monitor speakers on a stage, in ear monitors? ETC. ETC.
      If we are mixing for a CD/album project, unfortunately, we can not know how it will sound on every system everywhere, which is why we need to be very careful to not "over" EQ anything. I can tell you that if you are using smooth, flat, nice sounding microphones that are typically found in great studios like Neumann, AKG, Schoeps etc, you should not need any EQ or very very little if that. If the violin sounds harsh and is offensive like it is getting on your nerves, then a reduction of frequency around 2.5- 3k is the frequency range that will smooth out the violin's sound. Many times the violin can sound "not pretty", and it is because of many things, but cutting 3K (enought to make a difference) is a very common frequency that "hurts" people's ears. This same frequency range (in excess) is also offensive on many sounds, trumpets, guitars, female vocalists, some male vocalists, cymbals, some keyboard sounds and a lot of things really, even many speaker systems are harsh sounding in this region. I hope that helps.

      @@michaelnyansafo7343 the subs will connect to one of your unused Aux mix outputs. Once that is done, you need to set that mix to Post-Fader. This can be seen in this video. th-cam.com/video/sbHmPRj75xI/w-d-xo.html
      Any channels that you want to hear in the subs will need to be turned up in that Aux mix,... like bass drum, floor toms, keyboards, background music... etc. Only channels that contain good bass response should be turned up in the subs mix. Vocals definitely should NOT be sent to the subs. As you raise and lower the faders for the main mix, the subs will follow. Once you set the your desired balance between the mains and subs, they should not need to be messed with for the entire event.
