Hi I'm very new to this industry and I want to thank you for doing the video but I have to ask, as a solo operator I'm not getting anywhere near the numbers per year as you did if I only sign on say 20 accounts. I'm not understanding how you went from 50 per push to 750 for the entire season. Per push equals 1 pass correct? It seems you went from per push to per visit which is confusing. So if I do 3 passes per drive that comes to 150 per visit, right? Or am I not understanding correctly cause I'm only getting around $15000 total from 20 accounts for 15 visits at 50 per visit. Please help me understand how you got $33,365 from 750 a season. That's 47 accounts per season. How would 1 operator keep up with 47 accounts. That's 12ish hrs for just one visit per location per event.
“Per push” is the term for “each visit” The $750 a season came from $50 per push, times our annual average snow falls of 15 per year. For the number of accounts: we manage 30-60 accounts per truck (obviously depending on size) That takes us about 14 hours of plowing per snow fall.
Curious about sidewalks? I have opportunity to plow about one mile worth of sidewalks with a small tractor and plow. Wondering how I would bid something like that?
It would be about the same. If you lease the tractor, how much would it cost to lease the machine for that job? Add in operator wages. Add in any other costs. Fuel, etc. How many hours will it take?
So i did this formula. And either my math is fucked or I'm just getting royely fucked.lol. I'm supposed to be at to put it in a nut shell 4.75 dollars a min. 285 an hr 72 dollars per push! If I charged my clients 72 dollars to plow 3 to 6 inches of snow I would probly lose then all. Im not saying this formula doesn't work it dose and really helpful for new guys. I'm not new just stuck with old prices and not increasing enough. Had alot of them for years so I have to kinda gradually get there is guess? When I add cost of my truck and repairs mybe I'm a bit steep but this is today not years ago. Shits is not cheap. No such thing as a 2500 dollar plow truck in 2022. Lol I'm in southern Maine. We get just about the same winter as you it's seems. I'd love to chat more with you. People in my area are so stuck up and refuse to talk to the little guys. Act like they have some secrete recipe that only they have and your trying to steal it from them. No joke it's pathetic. Before I went full-time I worked at a few companies and they all seemed to take offense of me doing my own thing on the side. Even though at every place I said what I do what my plan was and how long I plan to stay. Even made an agreed stay out of there " territory".. not tooting my horn but I'm a damn good worker not many could keep up. Went well out my way to make sure they came first. Sorry got off track. This guy needs to go back to school and take Math class again. And never go down on your numbers, always ROUND UP! If you are at 15.5 and call it 15, you are losing a lot of money!
That is for sure a real factor! We have pretty big “average” driveways. If you have a ton of small drives in a tight area you can charge less per drive and still make margins!

Have you ever had your headlights go Dim when you raise your plow at night?
That would be a sign of your alternator not keeping up.

Yes we do, but we just have to come up with a way to figure out how to bill per push ;)

3 hours and I own the small tractor. (16 hp)
The average here is $30 per driveway, but I clear around 22 to 25 times. I could probably get away with $35 at most on my long term clients.
Thats probably a fine rate as long as you hit your numbers you need!

Our market will not bear $50 for smaller driveways, but you do what you can
