That looked absolutely brutal, and all of these guys are simply amazing. The look on Wout's face at the finish was one of relief, and less of celebration. When you know a guy is as tough as nails, that is saying something.

I think part of the reason and I think also for gravel races is xc is getting quite technical to try to increase more spectators but many participants don't want to put themselves at risk . Now there is still a lot of typical xc races with out riding black diamond segments but the pull is in that direction.

Wout created his own luck by pulling out a big lead. When he crashed he was conveniantly close to his pits to swap bikes. I'm sure if he was 1/2K away form them he still would have won.
Any time they reach the pit a bike change is allowed. Due to all the bike swaps, they wear GPS watches instead of bike computers, and you can see many of them stopping the recording at the end of the race.

What do you mean? It's more like hack in the 60' 70' that riding like mtb today didnt make sense. Cyclocross is 50+ years old sport and its a logical discipline that came out of roadcycling, it was like, what about racing bikes in the slipery dirt? Could be much more fun. .....and it was and still is. And much more interesting to watch than mtb for sure

How many bike changes are they allowed? Also dont notice any bike computers on the bikes?
They can get a fresh bike every lap if they want. They wear data devices on their wrists.
