I always thought the level where you break out of the prison, and because Irons destroyed your prosthetic arm you had to constantly pick up guns (as you can't reload with only 1 arm) was one of the most creative and innovate campaign levels in cod history

But it was just a gimmick, just like being able to play the dog in ghosts, or driving tanks in various missions throughout the series.
Once that's over it's back to the tired railroad shooter for the rest of the campaign until the next gimmick briefly shows up.

When this game came out, I never understood the hate on it. I just had a blast jumping around, shooting people, having a crazy custome, and getting the obsidian steed and getting the speak easy. One thing that still really surprise me about Advanced Warfare was the sheer visual and graphical leap only a year after Ghosts came out. Advanced Warfare was the first Call of Duty game to ever use physical-based rendering (which also contributed to the game being the turning point of the series lol) and it worked massively in the game's favour, it holds up ridiculously well visually for a 2014 release and still has some top-tier depth of field and motion blur effects.

Some green level guns (i forgot the names for the different tiers of guns) performed the same if not better than the elite-tier stuff. I don't think the guy who made this video really knows what he's talking about. I didn't like aw all that much, and even I know it didn't kill cod. how tf did he skip MW22, Vangaurd, MW19 and dare I say Cold War? I mean, yes; Cold War was an improvement, but that was only bc mw19 was so ass. Cold War still had crazy sbmm/eomm, so I was playing tourneys every single game. And yes I do prefer really challenging opponents, but not in every single casual game. That's what I have Rainbow 6 Siege for.
I'd argue that AW/BO3 had a more active community than MW22/MW23 does today. As far as player count goes, MW might have AW beat, but the energy of the cod community then can never be replicated with what we have now.
Now we don't even have a real prestige system: we have to use other guns to unlock the guns we want; the mini map isn't minimapping; we don't just have doorways, now we have fully functioning doors; weapon mounting as if head glitches weren't already bad enough; safe places for trash players; safety matchmaking brackets for trash players; no custom emblems; no leaderboards; slower movement while ads in comparison to older cods, slower ads speed, and just slower movement overall; overpriced bundles; ghost is busted; dead silence is busted; and Activision patents.
Now some may call me crazy; but I think it should be obvious that battle royale, and battle passes killed cod. Literally...the things that make COD, COD, are slowly being removed and/or disregarded just to fit in Warzone. Battle royal was never a Call of Duty thing.
Also it seems like the devs are trying too hard to appeal to trash players now. Ik they were trying before, but now I think they're getting a little too carried away.

I used to play this game all day everyday when I was 14. Was truly fun it might not have been the best cod but there’s no denying you’ve had atleast one good moment with friends or randoms on the game. Idk maybe it was because I was young but I just can’t get that kind of enjoyment out of games anymore. Being an adult and working all day makes you realize that those good moments are gone and I should’ve appreciated it more when it was happening.

I’ve always been a campaign freak and while it wasn’t the MW/BO trilogy, it was good. Different. The training mission in the beginning where you rescue the “president” was unique, the opening mission was one of the best in the series as far as setting the tone for the game, and the cutscenes were technically impressive throughout. I remember being super invested in the side characters, specifically Gideon. I wanted them all to make it out of the campaign. Multiplayer could’ve used some work but it came out right when I was 16-17 so i was hitting the height of every teens sweaty lifecycle so I have just as many fond memories with it as I do earlier multiplayers. Zombies was a miss for me though and that’s the one thing that’s kept me coming back in recent CoD titles. I think I maybe played 3 games lol map structure and exo suits ruined it, playable characters didn’t help.

True, as a campaign freak myself, I think the idea of private military company in Advanced Warfare deserved to be expanded more... or even introduce to Modern Warfare if possible. Consider our modern war right now has lots of PMC in active warzone. I think lots of people judging COD by multiplayer. I used to play pirated COD (3rd world country, 60 bucks is just too much) so I often focus more on campaign or side game like spec ops or zombies.

I think this video reviews well each call of duty. Though I have to remind that this person has been playing COD since COD 1 and he mostly focuses on campaign. It was refreshing to see he criticise MW2 and have soft spot for future setting COD. It might rub you off if you're hardcore MW2 fan or blindly hate futuristic COD. But he mostly focus on what each COD represents and how to deliver it in story. He does talk about multiplayer with open mind as much as possible

Your take on SBMM is really well thought out. I love the idea that the gameplay lends itself where SBMM isn't enjoyable to have like Smash or even Chess. You put a 1500 rating Chess player against a 1000 rating Chess player and the 1500 player will win almost all the time if not 100% of the time. The problem is that Smash and Chess are isolated arenas where you are facing (typically) only one other person so you only need to worry about yourself and someone else. In COD, when you are playing against players around your skill level (partied up or not) you are much less likely to feel as if your skill really matters. COD has too many variables to attempt to control to have such strong SBMM in order to make the player base feel rewarded for their actual skill beyond just a number or a level. I can be as talented, skilled, or thoughtful as possible in a COD game, but the higher you go, the less likely your skill makes a large impact on the game against 6 others that are of similar skill.
In other relevance, many people say that the higher you go, the closer you get to competitive COD but in public matches, but sadly this is far from the truth. There are agreed upon bans amongst players for weapons, attachments, grenades, killstreaks, maps, and more. Not to mention just GA'ing (gentleman's agreement) certain things that aren't banned. This allows for more of a player's skill to show through instead of just an overpowered gun. The higher your SBMM goes in public matches, the more it becomes a copy and paste fest where everyone is using the same of everything which turns into a "who sees who first" scenario which I wouldn't call high skill gameplay.
I think SBMM is an important system to have in the game and needs to remain as it always has existed. The problem is that the previous iteration had multiple protected brackets that you couldn't break into unless you were really bad or really good at the game. These were around 10-20% of the population on either end of the spectrum. In the middle, people were mostly grouped by ping and getting matches that had the best ping possible which is no longer the case which further drives down the skill behind SBMM. I agree that players are just better now and protected brackets need to exist, but SBMM should be relaxed on it's strictness. Lobbies should be able to stay together and not disband every game (maybe every 3 games for best of threes). I should be able to join a game with players on my team and the enemy team that are better then me, just as good as me, and worse then me. The better players are then rewarded for being good players (and then join a game where they are the worst player on the team or in the middle pack afterward), the mid tier and lower tier players are rewarded by doing somewhat well, but also have a ceiling to climb to and continue to grow and get better.

Looking back, a lot of these cod games were pretty alright. I think that what made this game satisfying were the guns having a very good weight behind them (at least the powerful ones). I mostly remember always using 1 gun (kinda for its gimmick)… the IMR 4 round burst assault rifle. It technically has infinite ammo cause it prints new rounds for you, and it can kill in 1 burst with the green variant of it from what I remember. Using it in zombies where you empty all your rounds into them, switch to your secondary to drop more rounds into them. Then switching back to the IMR and having half your ammo back.

Most Call of Duty guns have ALWAYS had the same rough amount of shots that you need to land to score a kill. For every weapon aside from shotguns and sniper rifles, and maybe a few exceptions on the high end - it's always been 3-6 shots
The only difference you probably need to make is to switch your gun to semi-auto and time those shots carefully at mid-long range

For them to literally just keep making the same type of game with a different campaign over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?
Like really, what you want? To just buy the exact same game with a different campaign every year? Why not just stick to the Call of dutys you're already playing instead of buying the next one? Or go play the Call of duty that's a live service game like cod mobile? Why buy the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again? If all you want is for it to stsy at the basics then stay with the original games. Or again, go to cod mobile where it makes sense to just play the same thing over and over again since it's literally alive service. and being a live service it's going to continue to receive new content till they drop support. Why would you pay 50 to 60 to $70 to play the exact same thing again just with a different campaign? And if you want a different campaign on the same game then we can literally just have those as dlc. We don't have to rebuy the same game over and over again with the same rehashed multiplayer.

I was one of a few players to have the full purple exo suite before Mid December. Back in the day when your rank and exo suite would fill the pregame lobby with fear!!!

This game was an absolute blast back in 2015. Hardpoint and CTF were seriously fun to play because of the rapid pace of gameplay. I think the movement was the best of the 3 advanced movement games, because the boost jumps and strafes were always the same and made gameplay consistent; Black ops 3 and IW' movement was more fluid but less consistent.
It's also one of the best looking COD's in the series. Amazing customization, the MP maps were really well designed and memorable; and the MLG season was unbelievably entertaining.

For a game that’s title the death of cod, you seemed to really enjoy the story and multiplayer gameplay, even if the loot boxes and balance were bad. Gamplay loop wise the multi player of advanced warfare to this day has been my favorite

I absolutely loved CoD: AW. I was too young to get a system (and my mom was one of those "That's the devil!" Christian Moms) I was 17 and this game was still getting all the drops and content released. Infected was one of my favorite modes along with the general multi-player. And I was playing BO2 just with my friends at their houses lol. I still remember almost getting a team-wipe with my favorite run and gun set up. The movement factor was allot more my pace though I did gripe about there not being any wall running like in BO3: "Developers Note: Don't call your game advanced warfare if you can't be advanced thinking enough to Add the wall run mechanic from 3 into your game, End Note." I still have it in my fb memories to remind me exactly when I said that lmfao.
Zombies was definitely the highlight, I'm one of those players that gets COD games purely for zombies so I couldn't complain about it. It was the first time I heard the term Easter Egg as well and that made me want to discover all the hidden secrets in the maps.
Overall I'm glad I got the game when I did and I'd get it again purely for zombies, but I can't justify spending 60 dollars on games for 1 mode anymore when I actually have to earn my money now 🤣😂

This game brought me back to COD, what people forget is everyone started to figure out how to be good at those old games, all you had to do was camp a lane on a head glitch, and there was literally nothing you could do to stop it… Jet packs changed tha,t no more pre-aiming a lane on some god tier head glitch the entire game, campers hated it and I loved it.
100% agree with your take on SBMM… Except I actually enjoy playing against sweats, I've always been a sweat since 007

Despite Advanced Warfare's flaws, I will give my respect to Sledgehammer for at least trying something new with this game. Also one issue I had with this game with it's campaign was I always thought it was weird how Mitchell was silent during gameplay, yet was fully voiced in the cutscenes. Like I know it's pretty small n the grand scheme of things but it always bugged me. Like if you're going to have your main character be voiced in cutscenes then they should also be fully voiced during gameplay, otherwise it breaks immersion and is jarring to the player.

    • @HK47_115

@@AC03115 I'm surprised more people don't think this now. Back when advanced warfare had its reviews, I remember that plenty of people having that thought. It was so odd to go back to the signing protagonist when previous Call of duty's literally had them talking all the time.
I guess everybody was just more focused on sbmm and in advance movements than the actual campaign. Cuz you know, who actually plays Call of duty campaigns? It's not like anybody actually knows the characters captain price, mactavish, soao, David mason, Alex mason, Frank woods, hudson, Victor reznov, Dimitri potrenko. I mean who even are those people? By actually giving a fuck about the campaigns?!🤣 Seriously though, I always thought people who said this or just stupid.

This game was actually my favorite call of duty. The campaign was amazing , zombies was unique, and multiple players was just incredible. Only down side was the maps weren't as vertical as they shouldve been. Score streaks, guns abilities were just too good. The jet packs were crazy. Dashing around and even being able to ground slam made unique kills and skill based to traverse and get around very intriguing. This movement system with bo3s would've been God tier. Too bad the community hated the movement. let's not forget the realistic cut scenes.

My problem with SBM is that I get screwed over. I got the new COD on pre-order but I waited until the BP had dropped to start playing seriously (I was rank grinding overwatch) and keep in mind I'm level 4 when I left off and my very first match the lobby was 100+ meanwhile in the only single digit number in the game. I had absolutely no attachment going against corner holding, drop shooting, randomly using prone in the back corner of the map, full ads one shot marksman rifes using sweats on maps I don't even know. I'm a good player (usually top of board or highest kills) but it's really annoying to go against players with more activity time. I take a small break and then I come back to getting beaten senseless for no other reason than me being good a month ago
