Capacity determines our success at being the parent we want to be

  • When we want to parenting consciously and relationally, but we grew up with critical, manipulative, or unsupportive parents we can get into a bit of a double bind. We might find ourselves doing a pretty good job some of the time, but we revert to our parent's strategies when we are stressed or overwhelmed.
    This is an opportunity, not to fall into our feelings of failure, but to use it as information. We can notice our stress and lack of capacity. When we can recognize our childhood conditioning as the source of our limits around being the parent we want to be, we can begin to work through them and grow our capacity and solid ground.
