  • This is my second attempt at dot painting - my first was last week and can be found here if you want to check that out - • I tried dot painting a... . Sorry about the time since my last video, this one took a bit of effort to make, both from the painting point of view and from the editing. I found that the dots dry pretty quickly, but it's still a pain having to wait for each row to dry before putting on the next, especially when you are doing something fairly large. I did work out a system where I worked across the canvas, thereby minimizing pauses, but still took forever... and 10 hours + of footage doesn't really go into sub 10 minutes very easily. Maybe I need to try longer format videos... hmm.
I'm really pleased with the roots and the grass is great. I was torn between making it a weeping willow and draping down greens or going for the Wisteria and the different purples. I think either would have looked good, but i'm happy i went with the Wisteria. It has a magical, more abstract look that fits better with dot painting. I do like the way the finished piece looks like a tree from a distance and you don't really see the dots until you get fairly close. There's something about the idea of art that reveals itself up close that appeals to me. Acrylic pouring is the same - The closer you get the more intricate it becomes.
most of the metallics are from Decoart or Arteza. Resin is from Total Boat. Resin Pigments are from RezinArte by ColourArte.
One area I wasn't sure about was whether to add leaves in between the flowers. I tried out a few different styles of dots, but always didn't like them. Luckily I had used resin (deliberately so) and so I could just wipe the unwanted green dots away. I tried leaf shaped beads from Michaels, but the family said I'd be cheating and the piece would be less honest if i did that. I'll keep the beeds for another time :-). I asked a FB group if it needed leaves and the vast majority of people said no. So I left it like it is! Comment below if you think that was the right call. If you do think it needs leaves, how would you recommend they should look.
