I am confused about how the snowflakes maintain their symmetry as they grow. I mean the distance each branch is from the center remains the same, so there is no symmetry growing from the center or molecular level, so how does one end of the snowflake 'know' exactly what is happening on the opposite end?
They don't maintain exact symmetry, but the branches on a single snowflake stay in almost identical conditions to each other and grow almost identically as a result.

And what about other billion Earth-like planets? don't they have snowflakes too that we will never see? for example Gliese 51- a planet scientists have found thats like 16 billion light years away from Earth, but it's also bigger than Earth. COOL HUH?!
