Oh, these bonsais are really progressing! What a treat that Fuji Cherry will be in spring. The trident and elm are going to be stunning as they mature and more of the rock is revealed. Absolutely a labour of love Xavier!
Been thinking about your fertilizer schedule… or lack there of 😂… have you tried slow release lawn fertilizer, i understand it’s cheap can can feed for a solid season (spring or summer). Milton Chang from Bonsai Heirloom uses it.
Gorgeous 😍 I love roots over the rock and yours are going to be exceptional trees 🤩 2 years ago I buried some rocks myself, can’t wait to see if there are some roots attached too. 😅 Absolutely enjoyed this fantastic episode 🥰 Thanks Xavier 🙏 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
I can honestly say that I started doing my ROR's before either of us started on TH-cam. I added tin foil when I investigated them last year - that may have come from your video? They are a longer term project but so worth the time and effort :)
3 great projects !!! i have a c/elm an seeing yours i'm going to try my luck at r/o/rock...as for the granny knot on the first crossing do it twice as it will hold somewhat as you do the last crossing...working with two hands can be a task...keep filming !!!
Love this video Xavier, I shall be working on a couple myself now over the next week or two , I have a Japanese white pine I’ve grown from seed about 3 yrs old I might use or a selection of black pines around the same age. Inspired to give it go now
Rock plantings are coming along probably better than expected so all systems have justified the time it has taken to put them together. The rocks I think came from your trip last year weren’t they ? The Chinese elm I think may be the best of the three Xav.
Got some root over rock going myself, next year I will check the(underground) progress of them. Already looking forward to it ,especially when seeing your root over rocks!
Great potential on the last two, I'm quite impressed with the cling film method. But Xav, if you want to fatten up those roots you have to stop pruning the leaves mate. 😉 I know it's hard to leave them alone but for every leaf removed there'll be less energy collected from the sun to use for root development. Maybe reserve some for continual 'fiddling' and leave the ones with most potential to grow, grow, grow? Michael
I think I am getting the subtle message Michael :0 I do have another 4 or 5 that you don't get to see and they have been left. BUT you are right 2025 will be the year of the leaf in your honour :)
They looking good and especially the Chinese elm has a cool setup. Not sure if it is the colour balance of video but that elm looked a bit yellowish but guess it might be the juvenile leaves mostly?
@@dkstott29 I actually have quite a few of them but never get around to doing videos. I tend to label them generically as Jade. Thanks for the suggestion

I have 5 more that i uncovered last week - most seem pretty good :)

I shall have a look - thank you. It does all come down to expense in the end :)

Always a pleasure to see your smling comments. God Bless
The last one is my favorite. I really like the way it wraps around the side of the rock.
It is very unique :)
Looking good. I have a big trident project that needs to be secured over a rock next spring…

So long the roots are still supple and you give it room to grow then that will work brilliantly Jason.
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreathoping so, it’s quite a mature trunk. I think the key will be finding the right rock…
Fabulous work, they all look incredible and will go from strength to strength , love the elm 👍
Elm always seem to produce the quickest and best results from my experience
Thank you for this root over rock technique. I want to try! Shout out to the Spider cameo!
That was so unexpected but did make me laugh
I think the cherry is the stand out tree here. Although we can only guess at the rock below it, the tree itself is a lovely elegant shape.
You are spot on with that comment Jacob. I think we will definitely get to see more of the rock in 2025.
jay....! RORs!! Love it. And now back to watching! Did you use my how-to video for this?

Looks like Christmas in summer!😊
So true
My favourite is the Chinese elm. Great video again x
I have three more elms on rock that i uncovere dlast week - they always come out the best i find :)

At daylight l will be out searching for a rock to do a JM over rock... yep you inspired me Xavier.. they all look great too. TY
I look forward to hearing some more Nerina
That is stunning project. Looking great
Thanks - it is always more rewarding once you get to this point. So glad I started them.

That sounds really interesting - especially black pine :)

These rocks were from a previous trip but I have started a couple of new ones with last years rocks :)

It is really frustrating during the first couple of years but when you get to start uncovering the rock it is worth the wait :)
Very nice roots Ober Rock 🤘🏻🤘🏻 it Looks Great 😍 x Cheers 🍻
Cheers Tom - I have about 6 that have gripped really well this year :)
Great video today Xav!!
Thank you Lisa

They go through different colours during the year in my garden. They normally bounce back pretty strong.
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
That Chelm is deffo going to be a penjing of a graveyard. I saw a tree on a gravestone.😂
Thanks Brian - I may just have to look at that for next yeear. What a star :)
You definitely need some crassula jade or portucaria afra tree's...😂😂
Now I need to check the video and see what that is reference to :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat no reference, just a humble suggestion. 🤪🤪

I already did that with Lexi. It was the cup of tea or her :)
