twices concepts are always kinda creepy, in every/most m/vs or songs there’s a manipulator or traitor, in this m/v it wa s jeongyeon, it was also jeongyeon in yes or yes m/v, fancy m/v and others, if you see int he beginning how they were cutting to each member, you can see that jeongyeon is the only one dressed in black, while the others are in bright and colourful clothes, you can also see this at 2:17.
jeongyeon and jihyo also have more time.
but this time she wasn’t alone, you can see jihyo also whispering words of temptation into dahyuns ear.
nayeon, dahyun and mina were the only ones who ate the apple, there’s a scene in the m/v where jihyo, mina and jeongyeon were standing together, with mina in the middle, mina was also the first one to actually eat the apple as well, nayeon, mina and dahyun are also the center for the chorus, as if they’re the main characters.
you probably won’t read this anyway but this is just to give you more theories/explanations on the story.
in dtna, (another song by twice) jeongyeon was the manipulator/traitor yet again, but she wasn’t alone again, in the m/v you can see that jeongyeon, nayeon, mina and momo were all wearing black outfits and they even seemed like they were from another time, a lot of fans thought they were ghosts. idk if u have seen it yet, but it’s better to watch it to understand me.
while all the other girls were busy building shelter, nayeon was bathing under a small hut.
jeongyeon, chaeyoung and tzuyu went out to find food, but only chaeyoung and tzuyu tried to get the fruit, and later, jeongyeon got fed first even though she did nothing.
dahyun, mina and nayeon explored a dark cave, but dahyun was the one who did everything, led them through and went first.
there’s a scene where all the girls smile at the camera, but you can see that the four girls (mina, momo, jeongyeon and nayeon) smiles were kinda sinister and creepy.
in the end, a ship came to save them and chaeyoung pointed it out, like she wanted to call out for them, but momo said no and they all went back to sleep, jeongyeon even has a line that says ‘yeah, it’s good’.
in yes or yes, jeongyeon is the one driving the car, kinda like the taxi driver. she is also the manipulator, yes or yes’ concept is not playing games anymore, and they’re in a theme park, the other 8 girls are pretty much fake i guess. in one scene it zooms out and you can see that it’s just a bright stage in the middle of nowhere, meaning that the whole thing is just an illusion.
in feel special, there’s a scene where all the members are sitting on a staircase, in fancy and bright clothes having fun and laughing, it then cuts to jeongyeon sitting on a gold chair, wearing a long and elegant red dress, she then look at the girls and sees herself, looking younger and happier, the 2nd jeongyeon stares at herself, and slowly loses her smile.
this whole m/v is about feeling included, momo and tzuyu were partners in the m/v because in SIXTEEN, it was originally 7 members, but then the two were added later on, tzuyu was always only seen for her looks and momo was always only seen for her dancing, they are both also foreigners.
mina and chaeyoung were partners in this m/v, chaeyoung is mainly seen for her strong and powerful image, always being a strong rapper and not having many lines, while mina is mainly seen for being soft and having quite a lot of lines, they meet each other and smile at each other, like they want to swap bodies.
dahyun and sana were partners in this m/v, sana is seen in the rain, having bright pink hair and looking sad, there are people with black umbrellas all around her. dahyun then comes with a bright umbrella, she smiles at her as if she was her umbrella. sana is known in kpop for being bright and happy, always comforting others, but it always seems like there’s nobody to comfort her.
jihyo and nayeon were partners for this m/v, jihyo is seen in a room with tvs all facing her, the tvs then change to a picture of nayeon, as if nayeon was protecting her from the media, this makes a lot of sense because dispatch recently exposed jihyo and daniels relationship.

This is, in my opinion, the story of Adam and Eve.
Nayeon: Human nature. Nayeon is the first to take the apple, and leads the humans to sin.
Jeongyeon: the devil. She says ‘only for me’ and is the only one wearing black in the intro
Momo: sin. Momo says ‘you are gonna be mine again’ referring to Lilith having sinned before.
Sana: temptation. Sana’s verse is literally about no matter where we go we will always be tempted.
Jihyo: goddess. She says ‘you are gonna be mine again’ because she wants more people to hear her message
Mina: Eve. Of course, our main character who gets the most screen time.
Dahyun: Lilith. As “the first woman on Earth” she leads Mina and Nayeon to Earth through the rainbow tunnel.
Chaeyoung: curiosity. She stands in front of a spider-web which holds Nayeon (human nature) captive. Also in her rap, you can see a cat in the background.
Tzuyu: Adam. Her solo scene has animals in it. Adam ‘named all the animals’.
Human nature says she ‘knows she wants it’. She knows she wants the forbidden apples. Eve says ‘I know you’ because she thinks she knows goddess. Adam says ‘no, no’ he wants to refuse, but he is losing. Momo says ‘you are gonna be mine again’, tempting the humans to sin. Sana says ‘you’re gonna says more’ because she tempts humans to want the fruit more and more. Lilith says she can’t stop, because she wants revenge on Adam, who was her husband, she’ll do this by bringing down Eve. Chaeyoung says ‘so one more time’ which is of course curiosity constantly prodding us. Goddess says ‘I wanna have more’ because she wants more people to stay away from sin. Devil “don’t wanna stop” because she wants more people to sin. Human nature ends the pre-chorus with ‘so one more time’ as human nature leads more to sin.
Devil says ‘do you feel me’ and ‘only for me’ of course reaffirming that she is selfish. Curiosity says ‘you know me’ because humans are intimately familiar with curiosity. Temptation says that even if we run away, we can feel her because temptation will never leave us. Goddess once again preaches for people to listen to her message. Skip to the dance break where the three red flashes are the three curses on humanity.
For men to toil in work
For women to toil in childbirth
For the snake’s legs to be cut off
The rap reaffirms Lilith and Cusiosity. Lilith says she is naturally selfish and Curiosity affirms that she is a cat. and we head into the final chorus. With all of our humans in the humans world, a Human Nature gets louder and gets some high notes.

Notice how k pop artist can afford having tons of expensive music videos one after the other while american artists can afford hardly one.
Why ?
Well because a k pop artist earns an average of 40k american dollars a year while the American artists pocket so much money they don't need it eats out from their entire artistic existence and that's wrong. If i was a singer id pay to get Joseph Khan to work with me but nope, the greed was too strong and that's why the American music industry died.
Clearly they're more interested in the money than the process of making iconic music videos to their songs

Lol it's the fact that most of the artist's earnings goes to the company and artists usually get a smaller cut (it depends on the company tho). The popularity of kpop is done through marketing thus making attractive visuals in music vids is important.
American artists can do that too but since their label doesnt play as huge of a role in their career as kpop artists they dont. Also America focuses more on their entertainment industry (it's where all the money goes) than their music one

I also see a lot of theories about how this MV can relate to The Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve, Lucifer, God etc!! Each of the members represent a person or feeling. Chaeyoung is curiosity, Sana is Desire, Jihyo is God, Jeongyeon is Lucifer ( the snake ), Tzuyu is Adam, Mina is Eve, etc. And the Beautiful “perfect” place at the start of the MV was the garden of eden.

i feel like you got the meaning exactly, because twice debuted as the cute group, in kpop if you of cute, you thought of twice, that was that, nobody could deny it. but lately they have been doing more mature concepts, since yes or yes they did fancy, breakthrough, feel special and now more & more, so i guess you could definitely say it’s a coming of age, they aren’t cute anymore, they’re changing, twice debut - yes or yes was literally only cute, idk how else to say it.

I love it when songs like this grow on you... when I first listened to this, it didn't have that much impact because I was still comparing it to "Feel Special" - but after listening to it again AND watching the M/V, it just sparked a life of its own in me

Adam & Eve: Mina, Dahyun, and Nayeon
Apples: Sana, Tzuyu, and Momo
“Snakes”: Jeongyeon as a snake, Jihyo as a horse (another form of the snake.), and Chaeyoung as a spider (another form of a snake.)
In the shots of Sana singing you can see Mina and Jeongyeon in the background. Jeongyeon in the teasers was the only one in black revealing she is a snake. Jeongyeon is trying to lure Mina in to make her bite the apple. (You see Mina almost put the apple to her lips.) and Sana is the apple saying you’re gonna want more.
Next Chaeyoung sings and you see her touching this bedazzled web and spiders, making us think she’s the spider. And in the background Nayeon is wandering around. Chaeyoung is like Jeongyeon, trying to lure Nayeon to bite the apple which is Momo. Because going to the dance break the pairs are spilt.
Jihyo. Nayeon. Jeongyeon
Dahyun. Chae. Mina
Tzuyu. Momo. Sana.
The apples: Tzuyu momo sana
Adam & Eve: Dahyun Nayeon Mina
“Snakes”: Jihyo Chae and Jeongyeon.
Next it’s Jihyo singing, and you can see Dahyun is facing a tree. Jihyo is to the side of Dahyun and that’s why you only add half her face. Dahyun is deciding to eat the apple or not, and Jihyo is luring her in. That’s when you see a horse in the back which is another form of the snake. You also saw Dahyun picking the apple.
Mina Dahyun and Nayeon leave the cave which I think means they bit the apples and left thinking everything was good when they escaped.
But then the dance break happens and it goes read symbolizing evil has won and the apples are in the front. The apples have proved that they’re gonna want more freedom once they finally had it.
Just, wow!

For me, it's like The Garden of Eden, there is the apple, the snake and they represent temptation, also they are singing that they want more and more, like in Eden's story, they tasted the apple cause they wanted more. Thank you for this reaction. I never even thought about a storyline that was as in-depth as your’s because I’ve been accustomed to not understanding the narratives portrayed with k-pop music videos, which are often so visually stimulating that there doesn’t seem a need to. It makes SO MUCH sense that Twice is telling this story at this time in their careers, given their recent, gradual transition from a cute, innocent concept/image to a more mature one. Again, this was entertaining and informative at the same time. Loved every second of it.

Also, yes, I believe it is a pretty common theme amongst k-pop girl/boy groups to explore the coming-of-age theme in their videos and music. I’m pretty sure it has to do with the age these idols/artists debut and how much music they are typically required to churn out within their usual short artistic/musicianship lifespans.

I love how you explained how everything was done and didn't just react, it made it so interesting! I'd have never noticed the cuts and blurring and effects on my own but now that you mentioned it I can't unsee it lol and as someone who's interested in video editing it's also really educational cause now I can try implement some of this stuff myself when I'm on AE, thank you for doing these breakdowns :)
