i understand why a lot of people dislike his vocals (at least live) but for me it actually adds to the experience. they're broken and all over the place, but they're immediate and honest and brave. if they were all pretty and under control, it wouldnt feel quite as overflowing with passion.
I agree. I've seen him live twice and I think it's really cool and brave to sing the way he does. It's his own thing and I respect him a lot. Also he fist-bumped me after the show. :)
00:28 Miasma Sky (from Obsidian) 06:08 Ocean Death (unreleased) 08:38 Lovely Bloodflow (Cerulean) 13:00 >> can someone help with that one? 18:51 Earth Death (Obsidian) 26:32 No Past Lives (Obsidian) 30:10 Phaedra (Obsidian) 36:57 No Eyes (Obsidian)
I don't know why everyone is hating on his vocals. Personally it adds more depth and humanity to his performance, especially on Ocean Death at 13:00. Sometimes he doesn't even care how he sounds, it's just pure emotion running through that guy. Sent chills down my spine, but everyone's different I suppose.
I know this comment is 4 years old and I am not sure if you are alive or even still listen to baths but I recently saw baths live at Neumos in Seattle and he sang ocean death. His raw visceral performance for that song is absolutely brutal and it doesn't even matter that it differs from the album version. It will forever be stuck in my mind as one of the best live songs I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Thanks for leaving a comment years ago that perfectly encapsulated how I felt about his wonderful performance.
Jett Rainbow Have you not heard of punk rock? Or hardcore or post-hardcore? A lot of genres are, in part. predicated on an anti-conventional approach. Part of this approach can include intentionally singing out of tune or intentionally producing amelodic phrases. I'm not saying that's what Baths are going for here, but obviously when looking at music from a historical perspective, singing out of tune can constitute a singular style.
at his album release party, someone asked if he would return to anything approaching the strength of this 2014 pitchfork show. I didn’t understand until seeing this now. wow.
i love that his vocals sound so different live; artists that sound the exact same when they perform live and when they record are kind of boring, in my opinion. he's got serious passion and it makes him really fun to watch live
I just keep coming back to this performance. You feel like you're a part of his process because he is so expressive in his live style. I think these live tracks are better than the studio versions (which are pretty fantastic to begin with).
I've always loved Bath's raw sounding voice, i agree it's not as up to par as it usually is in his other live videos, but i think it holds a charm, and i mean, he's getting older and has been doing this awhile, his voice isin't gonna be at the height of it's youth anymore. I love every moment of Bath's music however, and this live set is no exception
I love that new song he plays after miasma sky. It really shows how much vocal range he has, and I think even the people who don't like his singing style can appreciate how hard of a note 7:56 is to hit.
The voice sounds different at some points, but it's live, it can happen. And I also think the mic is maybe louder than it is usually and it makes some reverb. Usually Baths' vocals get mixed with the instrumental, but here they are too loud. Baths are always cool though, no complaint from me.
i saw baths about a year before this in the "grand ol state of fucking south carolina" and my friends told me that he played "no eyes" and i think i remember but i was pretty hammered, but shit this performance of no eyes was fucking intense.
I'm in love with the song he plays right after Miasma Sky. I think it's some unreleased song, playing it on loop since forever. Please let me know if you know the name of that track!
Eric Stuteville Kind of, very different timbres at play, but the song structures are similar and they both have a very intellectual approach to lyrics. I've been listening to Prick for years and I didn't immediately jump to a connection, but now that I've read your comment, I can hear it. Certainly No Pas Lives is reminiscent of Communique
This guy has one of the best voices ive ever heard. Its the fact that he does things that may turn most people off that impresses me the most. His versatility is literally astonishing. His music was meant to express his existential thoughts, especially Obsidian, because he wrote after dealing with a very bad case of E coli. I think his singing enhances every aspect of the music and without it would feel like standard IDM to me. With his singing, it seems more like an art form and a refreshing, innovative sound.

I don't know, there are people that can sing with both passion and accurate pitch
I agree. People don't seem to appreciate the physical demands of what he's doing.
perfect is not perfect
I agree.
I think it triggers a certain emotion in me that makes me attracted to their songs.
"Ocean Death" will forever be my favorite Baths song
this post right here
00:28 Miasma Sky (from Obsidian)
06:08 Ocean Death (unreleased)
08:38 Lovely Bloodflow (Cerulean)
13:00 >> can someone help with that one?
18:51 Earth Death (Obsidian)
26:32 No Past Lives (Obsidian)
30:10 Phaedra (Obsidian)
36:57 No Eyes (Obsidian)
The one at 13 minutes is actually Ocean Death. The one at 6:08 seems to be another unreleased track.
I think 6:38 might be ossuary from ocean death ep

Listening to this at 4am is totally euphoric.
Pitchfork, do you all realize you have a gem here?
The vocals on Earth Death are so POWERFUL
I don't know why people are hating on the vocals. The guy has his own style.

LOVE the screaming holy shit that ending. BATHS PLZ COME TO OMAHA
this version of no eyes brings me to fucking tears
so beautiful and horrible
Rawest and most beautifully honest voice around.
I fucking love his voice. It's so emotive and out there. Really fits with the music.
at his album release party, someone asked if he would return to anything approaching the strength of this 2014 pitchfork show. I didn’t understand until seeing this now. wow.
How did he respond?
The intermissions at 22:44 and 39:42 sounds awesome live.
I am quite happy I managed to snag a ticket to see him when he was in my town.
i love that his vocals sound so different live; artists that sound the exact same when they perform live and when they record are kind of boring, in my opinion. he's got serious passion and it makes him really fun to watch live
Amazing, he is so raw and brave, the music is eteral and beautiful, completely free and bold.
I love listening to this one while working
I just keep coming back to this performance. You feel like you're a part of his process because he is so expressive in his live style. I think these live tracks are better than the studio versions (which are pretty fantastic to begin with).

also, his vocals seems spot on in lovely bloodflow in my opinion.

~ 17:15 and on. Oh my god why does this sound so fucking beautiful.
that was kind of a joke. i still like this band a lot though.
I love that new song he plays after miasma sky.
It really shows how much vocal range he has, and I think even the people who don't like his singing style can appreciate how hard of a note 7:56 is to hit.
Can't wait to see him next week in Shibuya! :^)

Great videotography
natural high with this gem. baths forever.
Ocean death. Nothing sounds like this. So unique and addictive.

I think he should have included the one called Hall. That's his best one I think. He also uses the name Geotic.
0:25 18:25 26:30
Tthis Ocean death version kicks you real hard!
Not that the original is playing around...
i saw baths about a year before this in the "grand ol state of fucking south carolina" and my friends told me that he played "no eyes" and i think i remember but i was pretty hammered, but shit this performance of no eyes was fucking intense.
"No Past Lives" was perfect.
Could someone please put together a set list for this show? I would greatly appreciate it!
I'm in love with the song he plays right after Miasma Sky. I think it's some unreleased song, playing it on loop since forever. Please let me know if you know the name of that track!
+Prashant Tiwari As someone said below, I believe that it is Miasma Sky Extended
+Prashant Tiwari Its just an extended versin of Miasma sky he plays live.
His 1978 gym class duds are the best.
He would make good Metal/Rock with a scream like that. Although I like his current style anyways.
14:58 oooo oooo OOOOOO
Que gran banda. Gran aparicion
what's the name of song starting @ 12:47? maagic
Ocean death
i rather the boiler room live performance, but this was awesome too
No man, this was much better!
sometimes he does a mini song after miasma sky, he changes it up a lot
I agree, from what I seen/heard of his performances his vocals are good when already edited into a track, still great work
I cant believe this

sesamitch thanks!
Is there only live versions?
Does this band remind any one of Prick ( 1995 Lucky Pierre Music/Interscope Pearl Music/Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. (BMI) ?
Eric Stuteville Kind of, very different timbres at play, but the song structures are similar and they both have a very intellectual approach to lyrics. Jagwar Ma next plzz?
Anyone know the name of the second song?
What's the song at 12:13?
It's not a full song, it's just a little bit that he did live.
what is the second song he plays?
I am also looking for that one. I really fell in love with it...
Who's the guy playing with him?
pretty sure he’s called morgan greenwood, lol though i imagine this is no help 6 years later
Song at 4:45??
Unreleased I think
this is Electronica!
Yeah what is the name of the second song he performed ? It might be unreleased but if someone knows it, post it. Please and thank you
Ocean Death, unreleased at the minute!
callum martin Thank you Callum ! But now I'm super bummed I can't get this song until who knows when
This is true, thanks for the info !
phaedra is so beautifull
28:00 - 30:00 Sounded pretty good to be fair, for most of it anyways.
it all sounds great
+Earn Raku Yeaaah
damn, i turned on this video and by the start i've thought that i'll listen to a 42mins of very nice music but then this dude starts to sing o_0
but then you commented man

15:10 that singing, stahp..
18:20 earth death
09:00
lovely bloodflow
lovely song :)
Who's the bald guy?
Lucas Spurrell I believe that's Morgan Greenwood. He used to play in an awesome glitch/IDM group from Calgary called Azeda Booth.
Whoa, dude lost weight. Looks way different
E. Coli can change a man...
i don't know if it's a matter of come and fuck me or my face, but i thought that lyric was pretty silly
Reminds me of bjork kinda
The singer looks like a more handsome Eric Wareheim.
his vocals wouldnt be too bad if he would lower them and realize the music is way better lol
i can't shake the feeling that this would be much better without him singing.
far out
Endearing.
You can definitely tell that he's doing the voice thing on purpose, but IMO it doesnt really add anything
I honestly prefer his "Cerulean-Geotic- Not singing" era
Help me hurt myself...
Zaia They're just quoting the lyrics?
i love baths, but i can agree that his voice ruins the live perfromance.
honestly, most of this would be way better if he sang less.
