Appreciate it. People don’t know how much work is involved and it’s all at my time and expense. Most people turn hostile when they don’t hear what they want to hear. It’s mostly people that some how attach their identity to the phone they are using. If you love the pixel 7 pro that’s cool. It’s a great phone but it has flaws like every device. I’m just real with what I show. Im not in googles pocket $. If you want to hear how it’s the best phone ever go to a channel that is :p

@@freud1025 it is all at my time and expense. Some videos cost me at least $600-$1000 to shoot and I can only hope that over time it will break even from ad revenue. I dont do a ton of sponsorship deals and when I do I pretty much put all that money into the video.

I will say, the RAW shots are definitely one of fave off a phone. Pretty crazy how nice and natural they look!!! You would never think they came off a phone.

This is a great impression! usually the camera aspects of smartphones are focused for persons that will use it in auto and not as photographic tools, which is fair of course as most people will use it that way; but is a pity as it negates the technological improvements in smartphones.
Definitely iPhone vs Pixel by a real photographer would be great, and thank you for pointing out the bugs with portrait mode, I think it has to do with the fact that they force a crop into the main lens instead of using the 5X which is ideal for portraits, so when the algorithm processes detail on a cropped image it just goes too far. For what is worth, I actually prefer to add portrait blur AFTER I take the picture in Google Photos, it works great, allows you to control the point of interest and intensity, which can help hiding imperfections, also can be applied to almost any picture.
In terms of the hdr processing bug, I never had an issue with that and I find it pretty damn accurate and predictable, sometimes even too accurate because if the ambience light is colorful (neon signs, rgb, etc), it corrects the color to a point where it looks like it was taken on regular/perfect conditions which is not bad, but can be annoying if you are actually trying to get moody/creative results, raw solves this too tho...
Can i take photos with the 2x no portrait mode and just adding blur to it with the software ? Will it look good without oversharping or crunching the face ?

Sure, its got its flaws but nothing more than my S22 Ultra or whatever phone.
Until now I never owned a phone that took better photo's.
I' ll upgrade next year, probably to the P8Pro

iPhone 13 Pro user here. I like that your video showed that the camera app has a white balance slider. I also learned that it could do raw+jpg in the app which is good to know, as sometimes I'd rather process the raw with less extreme HDR. Nice video, cheers
Yeah it’s awesome it can do raw + jpg like a real camera. I think pixels are the only phones that do that
@@LeeZavitz samsung in pro mode can also output both raw and jpeg
I have the 13 Pro also, and there is an app called Camera M that I use a lot of times in place of the standard camera app. It offers full manual control and allows you to shoot raw+jpg. It takes a while to learn the interface, but I highly recommend it.

Hey Lee. I saw your video about the Pixel 6 Pro camera and I have just compared it with this one. One thing I really can't explain to myself is that the quality of the portrait of the Pixel 6 Pro is way better than the Pixel 7 Pro. Just watch again that video, the portraits were absolutely perfect. I have the Pixel 7 Pro and i'm really disappointed for the portraits.

It's easy...stop using portrait modes. Use 1x , 2x and 5x lenses to shoot portrait pictures in normal mode. You're going to get smoother and much more natural bokeh and even more detail. Portrait modes are ok just for smaller sensors.

Great video. Would love to see what your skills can do with a premium phone like the Samsung Z Fold 4, which is not the highest rated lens system, but is a flagship more for its foldable tablet like screen. Would be interesting to see what the results would be like.
I wonder whether the dark skin tone was due to Google's "Real Tone" feature? By the way, a few hours ago I took a portrait photo with the 7 Pro and it nearly looked as if it inverted (!) the colors of the face. Looked terrible, but was not reproducible and the issue wasn't in the raw file.
I don't know what happened to Google's processing but portrait mode hasn't been great since they switched to the new sensors on the 6 series. It's really a little hit and a lot of miss since then. Processing looks terrible but when it does hit it's amazing. I hope they can solve this with future updates. Portrait mode works best on my 6 Pro when I turn on the flash and then it destroys everything else. But when flash is turned off it's a gamble.
Thanks to the huge sensor, I would just make portrait using 2x zoom with normal lens and let the natural bookeh of this (quite) huge sensor go out.
@@uriel3368 exactly. I take all my selfies with the main rear camera and at arms length all my photos come out gorgeous with natural bokeh that far surpass any fake portrait mode.
You have to realise that the 6 have had over a year's worth of updates.... You need to give it time for the software to be updated. I think people seem to forget this.
Hmm same I remember taking pictures with my 5a and one of my friend's 6 pro and my 5a turned out to be the better in portraits mostly and overall as well! I was kinda in a strange position, but since it's new hope google will figure it out soon

S22 Ultra just got updated, should do a 3 way shoot out, make sure to use camera assistant which gets rid of shutter lag and let's you keep the same lens shot

Love your videos. Not super hot on your overly warm and red editing but the photography is bang on. Disappointed with the pixel JPEG photos but I guess RAW is always the way to go for shooting people.

It sucks portrait mode is being left to the wayside. Apple updated theirs in the iPhone 14 Pro to do shallow depth near and far this year but their main lenses without portrait mode are still doing better. All cameras kinda gave up on it.

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and what I don't understand is the aggressive luminance noise reduction for daylight photos (especially noticeable with leaves/trees in landscape photos). Already the 6 Pro had this issue, previous Google phones like the Nexus 5x didn't have this issue in HDR+ On mode. The raw files don't have this issue and the raw files are often even not noisy. So it's unexplainable for me why they destroy details in good light conditions. Even the live photo video frames can sometimes look better due to the noise reduction.
with this very cool model, anyone can use a blackberry and still produce awesome photos, her poses are amazing!
Yeah she’s awesome, my only problem is she is use to a normal camera and switching poses quick where the phone can’t really keep up haha.

With the pixel 6 I never saw the wired underexposure issue you saw, but I'm often frustrated with how "crunchy" and over processed images are.
Pixel 7 Pro can sometimes have some very strong contrast which can be unpleasing for human pictures, so I use RAW and edit them, sensor is amazing!!

First time seeing on of your videos. You're doing a great job. You know what you're doing. Just one question. Do you think a noob who has no idea about photography can still get decent portraits shots when not using the portrait mode? And do you have any tipps on how to get good shots? Just using 2x and 5x zoom lense and that's? Or is there more to know?
photography 101 still applies. The camera is the tool, the photographer is the artist :) Always make your tool work for you not the other way around.
Great video, Lee! I am a hobby photographer. Would the Pixel 7 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro replace a Sony ZV-1 compact camera? I have a OnePlus Nord 2T now and I realize I hardly ever take the Sony out of my bag. Especially, video just always becomes jerky no matter the stabilization.
I had a 1plus before, I think it was a 5t. Great phone, but not a pixel level camera. I think if you are favoring the Nord now, you would be very pleased with the 7 pro. Not familiar with the newer iPhones. I am a pixel guy for the camera and slick android os. I was a canon guy....samething happened when I got a Nexus 6p - this was Google's last phone before the pixel came out. Then I got the pixel 2xl and the oy time I got one of the canons is when I am outdoors and want the zoom. Now with the zoom lense on the 7 pro, that is less frequent. Honestly, if you like the Nord as a phone - the system - you'd be very happy with the Pixel.

It would be great to see an interior shoot. The only time reviewers seem to go inside is to test night mode! But Most people actually use their camera indoors regularly in just normal interior light.
I could make a video like that but it’s just harder to plan out a shoot indoors unless i find a cool location or studio. These videos I make aren’t your every day photos. I’m a photographer and to me it’s more about creative shoots using a phone instead of my real camera.
1. anyway you can include at the end or in between of you editing the raw pics step by step and then hold it up side by side with the jpg/regular raw to see how you got the results.
2. second question, which lens was the best one because the regular 1x is the 50 mega pixel one, so wouldnt it make sense to just always shoot with that one instead of doing any zoom ins or switching cameras.
3. question, can we see videos of you beating the iphone 14 pro with the most compact/mini cameras and how you did it

⭐ I have the Pixel 6 - the one thing I wish Google would fix is focus lock, its so easy to do and would make video such much easier
They actually do have that on the seven and the seven pro!!
And you can also do it for photos
@@therealzuluking The issue of the Pixel 7 Pro is that focus lock isn't working correctly in the photo mode. It often resets and still shows the yellow lock symbol. I just examined the issue a few days ago on the Pixel 7 Pro because I wanted to take macro photos (ultra wide angle as well as main camera +2x zoom). At first I thought that it isn't working when you adjust the zoom level (for example from 2x to 3x), but it can even reset when you don't change the zoom factor (no matter whether "macro focus" is turned on or not). Google's focus lock is full of bugs.

Why would it be on the 7 and not the 6, the 6 was supposed to challenge iPhone video, its a fundamental feature for video. Google are pants.
Even with the consistencies the photo still look great! Did you edit them in Lightroom mobile?
Used my presets and tweaked the orange to pull more red from the leaves. Used Lightroom
You should look into reviewing Vivo phones! They have great cameras and portrait mode, the new Vivo X90 Pro Plus is coming out very soon, should definitely look into it. Great vid nevertheless.
I need to know how the 10x perform because its a sensor crop from 5x tele lens to achive 10x 12mp image hope u add in the next video👍
They should have a revert processing pic option or something to solve excessive editing issue the phone does
I’m happy to finally hear somebody that talks of the 2 biggest pixel 6 and 7 issues (pro and not).
The portrait mode really really su**s! Low res feeling and totally not accurate colors and skin tones… and this was one of the selling points!
And also, lights totally flattened by the ai hdr
The solution on the fly is to crank down (almost fully) the shadows handler
One more solution may be using the open camera app or shoot with the Lightroom app
Also, silly thing by google, not having portai mode with the zoom lens
Solution in general is to shoot everything without portrait mode and post process using the photo app (you can add depth of field there) as the app makes a better job
Can you please repeat until which pixel version portrait mode was great?

I find that the pixel 7 pro uses too much sharpening and contrast boost most of the time. In certain situations I turn to the ProShot app to turn down the noise reduction and overly "popped" look. I sure wish there were a manual mode in the Google camera app.

I agree that ever since the pixel 3 or 4, portrait processing has gotten REALLY bad. Google used to have some of the best portrait mode shots and now they're just gross which is a shame. But, considering the natural blur from main and 5x lens, it doesn't really bother me since I just use those instead of the portrait mode. Really nice photos here though, that fall scenery is 🔥
Could you do a Pixel vs Iphone comparison? the only thing that really matters to me is the camera on phones, but I haven't found a good comparison yet, it doesn't even have the be the 14, the 13 pro or pro max could do too.
Working on it. End of the day they are both good. They both have strengths and weaknesses. If you want it for video the iPhone is much better
I feel like you (Lee) would get a good photo out of a potato. You've got great skills. Portrait mode on the pixel is so disappointing especially given where they were just a couple of generations ago. Given what the sensor is capable of, there's no reason why the end result has to come out all crispy and oversharpened like that. I'd like to say that google will fix it, but in my experience there don't tend to be big changes with camera updates. Let's hope I'm wrong though.
Btw I think you were the only youtuber to demo 5x as a way of doing portraits. Brilliant work.

Autumn pics are going to look better because it has less contrasty scenes. I think that even mediocre cameras would do well in these settings. I'm not dissing P7P in any way.Probably the best smartphone photo camera overall.

I've given up on the jpgs from the 6 pro and 7 pro, been shooting raw almost always because with a bit of editing you can get a much nicer result without the weird HDR processing and sharpening and white balance mistakes.
Also love the composition and modeling here, very inspirational.
Yeah the cameras are incredible when you shoot raw. The processing is looking really bad. It feels very beta right now
Same as well. The RAW images after they are edited looks like it came straight out of a micro four thirds camera. I sometimes forget I have a Lumix G7.
It's when a tech guy instead if an artist is deciding what grade your shot should have.
Main cam, at 1x does HDR superbly, but 2X seems to be an issue

I’m glad the 2x is not a digital zoom. It’s my favourite focal length for portraits
they need to add a big sensor 50mm 2x specifically for portraits and fix the processing. also the 5x raw pics are the closest thing to a dslr I have ever seen in a smartphone

Iphone 14 pro VS Pixel 7 2x zoom comparison would be great! That's the focal length I found the most usable for every day use (mostly taking photos of people). Thanks for the video!
So digital zoom vs crop zoom on iPhone. iPhone beats almost everything (including dedicated 2x lens) with it's clarity and per pixel detail and sharpness. I was comparing 2x iPhone 14 Pro shots with the sharpest 2x lens on Phone (Galaxy S10) and I can put them on par during the day and iPhone just crushes Samsung during the night. The difference is... huge at least.
Did you take a look at when the Galaxy S10 and when the iPhone 14 Pro was released?
A good 3 years difference, with much AI and chip development in between.

Great camera sys, but the inconsistency of pixel cameras is a bummer. It'll take some of the best photos you've seen on a phone and the next min it just craps the bed.

My portrait shots in portrait mode comes out better then what you diplayed here normally. sometimes it can be a miss but for the most part it gets the skin and subject accurately.
Every time I’ve taken a portrait mode shot on the pixel 7 pro it has always looked so unnatural. The key is to take a normal shot and then use the blur background feature. That seems to look the best in terms of processing

Do you guys know if DJI's apps work in pixel 7 pro? I need the apps for my drone and gimbal and I know because chinese manufacturers are pissed with Google they won't provide updated apps on pixel phones because they're Google products. Could you please try or install and run DJI Fly or Ronin? Cheers!
THANK YOU!!! I thought i was going crazy with all the reviewers praising the camera. I absolutely HATE how google ruins all my pictures with their "AI". It's so frustrating because the look good for 2 seconds untill they apply these ugly post processings. I whish we could turn this off. And raw isn't an option since i don't want to develop anymore raw files in my free time. Thinking about returning the phone since taking pictures is not fun like this. Thank you for being the only honest (or the only capable) reviewer out there! 👍
Yeah you literally watch the image that you took change from awesome to some mess of AI. I don’t understand how everyone else saying how amazing it is. That said. It is a really great camera system I just wish the processing was dialled way back

Does it let you shoot a full 50mp raw on the main camera or are they all automatically binned down to 12ish mp?
They are all scaled to 12mp
No, sadly, you can't take 50 megapixel photos. The 12 megapixel main camera photos are not downsampled 50 megapixel photos. The 12 megapixel photos are created by the sensors in their 12 megapixel modes, the sensors behave like 12 megapixel Bayer sensors in this mode. The 50 megapixel modes of the sensors are only used for digital zoom. (The 6 Pro never used the 50 megapixel modes of the sensor, the 6 Pro gave you 3 megapixels at 2x zoom).

Finally somebody who confirmes my findings that the portrait mode on the Pixel is catastrophic. Am returning the phone for this exact reason.
It’s pretty awful. Everyone telling me to use 1x for portrait doesn’t solve anything. There’s no way it should look this bad. The pixel 4xl looked better
@@LeeZavitz 100% agree. Posted this in some other youtube reviews and got flamed by the fanboys there. No idea why people get blinded - this is just a product, no boyfriend / girlfriend, no love of your life, just a product. For some who don't care about the portrait photos part it's great, for others like me - a product to be returned.
I Wonder If they will update the firmware on portrait mode and that darkening of the photos. I would like not to shoot In Raw all the time.
Wow, as someone who relies on the double click of the power button to open the camera on my 6a, I'm impressed by just how rapid it is on the 7pro. It's fairly responsive on my device especially compared to the 3a, but on the 7pro it's something else!
gotta say that Pixel is a clear winner when it comes to still shots !

It’s a really solid camera system. I still don’t know what’s up with portrait mode. I’ve yet to see it look good even when people giving it camera of the year praising the portrait mode when it looks awful. But I think Samsung is nailing portrait mode more than iPhone
When you do review the iphone 14 pro and pixel 7 pro, please include a comparison of raw on each. I have a feeling that the iphone has a better raw output, especially in low light
So far pixel has the best natural looking raw images vs iPhone. But when it comes to straight out of camera iPhone is usually the one I like most

I saw in comments below that pixel only outputs 12MP raw, whereas in your iphone 14 pro video you praised the 48MP output of pro raw.
Curious if that does not translate to better raw quality in the iphone?
Similarly I find the photos of the Pixels after the 4 too processed and unnatural
On the other hand, I find that the sliders to be able to manage shadows, lights and white balance are really underestimated, and should be available on all smartphones.
