    Nice video, great fix. The power of thermal cam and those tiny hints of melted plastic are good indicators where the problem could be.

    Shout out to Big Boss. Test, disassembly, re-assemble, and test the same kit over and over again is both tedious and thankless without even getting to do the fun part of the fix.

  • @mdswish

    @NorthbridgeFix In this case would it have made sense to also replace the resistor that had gotten so hot? I mean, sure it's good today, but after obviously being under such strain for so long it likely greatly shortened its life. To prevent future issues for the customer I probably would have replaced it. Thoughts?

    a question to alex or anyone who knows, when is the right time to use low melt solder, or normal solder?
    example: 4:40, preparing the board for new ic, that should be normal solder right?
    only use low melt solder to remove something from board?

    • @MrLukxas
      @MrLukxas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should use low melt solder when trying to remove something from the board, to avoid heating up to much the board. You should avoid using low melt solder, to solder anything. The example you provide is mixing unleaded solder with leaded, so that can allow you to reduce melting temperature and easily wick off the unleaded solder from the pads or in this case make it easier to solder new IC. In both cases you reduce risk of damaging the board with unnecessary heat.

    • @j0eb0t0
      @j0eb0t0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrLukxas Thank you Lukasz for the response. 63% Tin/37% Lead is normal solder yes?

    • @MrLukxas
      @MrLukxas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@j0eb0t0 Yeah, exactly. Something around this percentage. Sometimes it is 63/37, sometimes 60/40.

    That statement towards the end is scaring me a bit. If you are repairing Spectres daily that means they are having high failure rates? I am in the process of ordering 20 laptops for my company and was strongly leaning towards getting either these or splitting 10 Spectre and 10 Dragonflys.
