    Hi guys! italian fan at the rescue!
    Sassuolo is a club representing a tiny city, but is no miracle they are in Serie A.
    Their former president (one of the richest people in Italy, passed away in 2019) took the team from amateur in 2002 and brought it to Serie A in 10 years, slowly building a good club structure who managed to stay up even if they sell all the best players years after years.
    They've had excellent choises in term of coaches: Max Allegri got them to Serie B for the first time in 2008 at the start of his career, Eusebio Di Francesco (lost himself a bit rn, but don't forget Roma's run in UCL 2017/18) who got them in EL for the first time in 2016 and, lastly, Roberto De Zerbi.
    In terms of player, they seem to have a talent in developing youth coming from other teams: Berardi, Raspadori, Locatelli, Scamacca, Traore, Boga, Sensi, Demiral, Politano, Lorenzo Pellegrini, plus some who got lost after they've been sold like Vrsaliko, Zaza, Sansone and many many more...
    In short, it is a small club with a little legacy building, but doesn't belong to the serie B for sure

    As an Evertonian, THANK YOU NEWCASTLE for the 45mil for Gordon. He's going to be a pretty good player, but the development he would need to be an excellent player would have to go perfectly. He's got good physical talent, but technically and mentally he's a good bit below premier league standard. He doesn't have much vision, and he doesn't have a good shot. It seems like people on the outside, especially old school English fans, romanticize the idea of him as a player but haven't really watched with a critical eye.

    • @SaturnusDK
      @SaturnusDK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's just settle the record. The fee for Gordon is not disclosed. The most reliable sources say the fee is £35m plus up to £10m in potential add-ons including £4m if Newcastle win a European trophy.

    • @FifatlasHD

      @@FifatlasHD I don't know. I think Eddie Howe will like his stats and versatility. By stats I obviously mean stats from last season because without Richarlison and a clueless Lampard coaching he's been a bit lost this season thrown into all sorts of positions.
      I see him as a backup for both Almirón when the opposition is parking the bus because Almirón is incredibly one-footed and cannot make (good) crosses with his right. And he can play as a backup for Willock, maybe even ahead of him as his stats are better than Willock both defensively and offensively.

      @areebsiddiqui758 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SaturnusDK His stats are awful. Don't blame Lampard when he's the guy that got the best out of young English players at Chelsea and Derby. He wasn't any better under a Champions League winner like Benitez and flopped on loan in the Championship with Preston.
      No end product, lacks technical ability and is terrible at shooting and crossing. He has a high work rate and runs around but that's about it. Typical English hype. He's bang average and isn't worth half of what you paid for him.

    The elephant in the room is that city have all the cash to be able to buy 16-18 quality players and pay them astronomical wages whilst they sit on the bench. Man u isn't an apt comparison; they had that in certain positions but their squad was padded out with youth team products/second string player (e.g. Ronnie Johnson, David may)

      You can’t equate football 25-30 years ago to the modern day anymore. You actually need that many players to go for a treble in the modern day because you need to win around 30 games in the league alone to win the league let alone the fixture list meaning you will play Tuesday/Wednesday and Saturday every week.
      City’s wage bill is still smaller than United and you’d think that one of the most successful clubs in terms of domestic success over the last decade would would have players who deserve their high wages. Tell me how Sancho came into the league in the top 10 earners🤷🏾‍♂️ at £350k a week.

    "Pep's strength is that he has access to essentially two world class 11s he can play." What would Pep be without a historic Barca, a market monopolizing Bayern, or a state-sponsored City? Any intelligent person could manage those squads.

    • @areebsiddiqui758
      @areebsiddiqui758 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Man City squad isn't even that deep aside from at CB and in midfield. They never replaced Sterling or Ferran Torres and the only wide players they even have are Mahrez, Grealish and Foden. You talk about two world class XIs but City only really have 15-16 players that even regularly feature. The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and United all have bigger squads in terms of numbers. City have just been really smart with their purchases whilst also making a ton of money selling players.
      Oh, one more thing. Pep created that historic Barca you speak of. Without him arguably the greatest football team ever assembled wouldn't exist. Lionel Messi wouldn't be the same player if not for Pep Guardiola and that's a fact.

    • @mss11235
      @mss11235 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@areebsiddiqui758 I disagree on the City depth, but I will take your point, slightly, on his clever squad building and development. Along with your point, I would argue that Pep is, for comparison sake, a great version of what a Edu is for Arsenal now and what Wenger was during the first decade of his tenure: an exceptional man manager and style philosopher. I would argue, though, that minds like Arteta and even Mourinho are better matchday tacticians. As long as Arteta does not upset the squad harmony (something Jose is PRONE to) he could surpass Pep in terms of more value to clubs. Especially given that the market is so volatile now that you WANT to separate contract and transfer management from matchday tactical management. Pep has always had a hand in both but he may be stretched thin like Arsene was.

    • @areebsiddiqui758
      @areebsiddiqui758 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mss11235 Did you actually just say Arteta is a better manager than Pep? Based on his team playing well for 6 months, apparently he's surpassed his mentor. The guy who has won everything under the sun and changed the way football is played. Lmao good one.
      By the time he retires Pep will be in the conversation for greatest manager of all time. The only thing that's currently holding him back from that debate is his failure to win a Champions League since leaving Barca. If he wins one at City then nobody can question him anymore.
      Also, I'd love for you to name me this so called second world class Man City XI that you're referring to. Because it's basically just a bunch of youngsters and squad players, aside from Gundogan and Grealish, Alvarez, Laporte at a push I don't see any world class players. And don't you dare call Kalvin Philips or Rico Lewis world class. City literally have one of the smallest squads in the league in terms of numbers. This whole rhetoric of City having insane squad depth and two XIs that could fight for the title is nonsense.

    • @mss11235
      @mss11235 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@areebsiddiqui758 no. I said matchday tactician.
      And having a world class 11 is different from having 11 individuals that are world class. With Man City's squad you could divvy them up such that you can have two completely distinct 11s that could compete at a world class level.

    • @areebsiddiqui758
      @areebsiddiqui758 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mss11235 There's been a couple of high profile situations where Pep has fallen victim to overthinking. The Champions League final against Chelsea where he didn't play a DM and the knockout stage game against Benfica a few years ago. That alone doesn't change the fact that Guardiola is the most advanced and innovative tactician of his era. The guy is 3 steps ahead of others. Arteta isn't fit to polish Pep's boots when all he's ever achieved in his career is one measly FA cup win.
      Stop moving the goalposts. A team has one starting XI and then a bench. The players on the bench are not as good as the starters. You field your best available XI at any given opportunity. City have maybe 2 or 3 absolutely top class players on the bench. Their squad is one of the smallest in terms of numbers.
      They don't even have 22 regular first teamers so you couldn't make a second XI even if you tried to, unless you want half the team to be academy prospects and youngsters. They never replaced Mendy, Torres and Sterling, they only have 5 midfielders in total and there's barely any cover in the wide areas. City's insane squad depth is a myth. The year they scored 100 points Fabian Delph was playing at LB for half the season. They spent 2 years without a no. 9 in the team. And as much as they splashed the cash when Pep first came in, CIty's net spend over the last 3-4 years is way lower than the likes of Chelsea and United and about par with Liverpool and Arsenal.
      I don't even like City but even I have to admit that they're one of the most efficiently run clubs in the world and one of the smartest in terms of business. Wish I could say the same about my club but we're about to pay 120 million for a kid on the basis of 6 good games at the world cup, I doubt Todd Boehly even knew who Enzo Fernandez was 3 months ago.

The little touches, like making viewing the results a Ceefax screen, clicking the fax machine to inquire about transfers - or to throw a bung to your next opponents or bet on match results was great. Plus the newspapers with the match reports and the obnoxious journalist writing it. 42:50 It sounds like Badloss has style at least.
    Loss to a 6th division team: 0:1
    Loss to a 1st division team: 0:6
    At least he's predictable!

    Dyche, Ah you think gravel is your ally? You merely adopted the gravel. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't hear the smooth until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

    As an Arsenal fan I don’t think us losing has given much of a psychological advantage to City. Based on Arsenals performance in the game with a heavily rotated team lots of positives. I think City putting out that strong team and not dominating will be more of a worry for them.

    The first 2 minutes, about which pets you can eat, is the absolute pinnacle of Tifo football podcasts. It will never get any better than that, you may as well all retire.

    The real problem with Football Manager is that the more real they try to make it, the more unreal it gets. I don't think they are at the 'uncanny valley' yet but it has put me off FM now.

      Yeah. They try and simulate contract negotiations for example - fine in theory but they can't realistically simulate how any humans would interact in that situation.

    JJ Bull should do all podcasts in his normal posh english voice. It's unfair that Joe makes him put on a show as a scotsman each week.
