Amazing how something that's free will entertain cats so well and you buy him an expensive toy and they just look at it sometimes. LOL. Sometimes I would cut the TP towel roll in half , and they bat it around like a hockey puck
I took a couple of mine, got super Cute Kitty Duct Tape, put some tiny pebbles in it & taped it up. Still good after 4 yrs!!

I used to have a pet gerbil & he was always happy to help recycle toilet paper tubes. Sometimes they would become tunnels to hide in but most of the time, they'd end up pulverized.

Another free toy is the plastic rings you get on water bottles that are released when you twist off the cap. Those get used by cats for ice hockey on any hard floor. Stand one on edge and flick it and they have lots of fun! We had an older British breed cat who had lost one lower canine tooth but he used the other one as a hook to carry the rings around when he wanted to play. He did "fetch" for another flick but only under his terms.
My cat absolutely loves those. I don't know how many are around my apartment. But every once in a while he brings one onto my bed to play with. Or he'll put it in the bathtub to fling around. He also likes qtips and large twisty ties.

I'm definitely using this for my new kitten Daisy I'm getting in two weeks and other kitty Ron who's turning 2 I don't think aurther will like it because he's old (15)
My cat loves twisty ties (I'd wrap it around my finger to make a spiral and then throw it on the floor), but I wouldn't recommend them for all cats. My cat just liked swatting it around, but I'm sure there are some cats out there who would try to eat it. It would be dangerous to eat a twisty tie because of the wire.
