The Nilgiri Hills if you see on Google is disconnected from the Western Ghats by the Palghat Gap ( Pass ) and stand in isolation. The Nilgiri Express ( Blue Mountain Express ) runs between Chennai & Mettuppalayam Via Coimbatore. You reach the NILGIRI by the NMR - Nilgiri Mountain Railway which is a METER Gauge RP Railway from Mettuppalayam..

Nilgiri (Blue Mountain) part of the Western Ghats. Its a thickest forest. 24 Highest Mountain peaks (above 2000 meters) are there at Nilgiri Mountain. No 1 Highest peak is Doddabetta. Bus route only available from OOTY to Mysore. (Nilgiri City). Buses and on road vehicles only crossing the Nilgiri Hills. Some of the road routes are not allowed for Night riding. Due to the wild animals crossing and highly risky roads. Nilgiri is an one of the Tamilnadu District. District Head Quarter is Udagamandalam- that is OOTY. British People named as OOTY) But, local tribal villagers ride any time, they know how to handle the dangerous animals. Around the nIlgris mountain more than 58 Tribal Villages are there. More than 8 wild life sanctuaries are there under the Governance of three states TamilNadu, Kerala, Karnataka. Most of the area's are Reserve Forest Area.
