Violetshine suffered Female Protagonist Disease. Where the authors give her lots of screen time, little depth, and then make her pregnant so that they can make the next arc’s protagonist her spawn so readers can go “OH THEY’RE RELATED TO [Insert Female Protag Name Here]”.
@Bramblepaw Dovewing at least gets a lot of dialogue and *an actual relationship* with Shadowsight that matters plot-wise. This isn’t the case for Violetshine and Rootspring, who never talk to each other. Edit : It works better with Ivypool, who she and Fernsong have barely any relationship at all with Bristlefrost.
The Violetpaw Twigpaw arc was literally just Dovepaw and Ivypaw under different circumstances imo. Especially how Twigpaw and Ivypaw were both held captive by ShadowClan. Violetshine and Tree was so rushed to me and it was an awful attempt at romance. Twigbranch and Finleap had potential at the beginning, but the last book of the arc completely butchered him.

Characters that exist with the single purpose to be the love interest of a major character aren’t my thing. I wouldn’t hurt to have a small thing going on with Needle and Alder. Having something between those two would actually be somewhat interesting and bring something new to the “Med cat and other clan cat banging” cliche.
Violetshine was one of my favourite characters in A Vision of Shadows because I felt like I could relate to her struggles a lot, and because she did the whole spy thing way better than Ivypool. Also, I think her relationship with Tree is cute, even though it wasn't developed much. But in The Broken Code, she's been pretty much non - existent. What is she doing, while her son is hanging out in the Dark Forest? Oh Violetshine, what happened to you?
Ikr, I feel like the only cats who were actually worrying about Rootspring were Bristlefrost (obviously) and Tree. What happened to Violetshine? She didn’t show any concern. Even worse, she didn’t even APPEAR at the moonpool ONCE.
Also I agree! I love her so much more than I like Ivypool. She’s my 6th favourite character. I used to like Ivypool much more but now.. I just don’t like her as much. I also enjoyed violetshine’s spying much more than I did with Ivypool’s
Yeah, is it weird I think Tree's one of the _few_ likeable characters in this arc? He's charismatic, funny, and at least he had the guts to stand up to Finleap.
They should've made Darktail "adopt" her because he sees how unhappy she is, and make the kin treat her like a princess until she becomes loyal to them, at which point things go downhill. Make the Kin into more of a cult who start to demand more and more from her.
Reading her sadness and loneliness while she was in the den cuddling the feather Twig gave her after their meeting was so freakin sad. I thought Violetshine would have developed into a villain herself as she struggled to find where she belonged, but it happened pretty quickly

Violetshine had and has attachment issues because of the trauma she endured (having her mother die and father gone at a young age, and being ripped away from her original adoptive family / clan). As someone both educated on and with trauma, it does not make people (or cats in this case) make rational decisions or assumptions. Violetpaw thought Twigpaw abandoned her because of this. It's also the same reason she would have stayed with Needletail and The Kin despite not approving or being treated well. She was traumatized and still living in the traumatic situation. Taking her trauma into account, her choice to just follow along with what's going on around her and her perception of her relationships makes a lot more sense.
I think your explanation is interesting, but they never really treat it like that in the books and she doesn’t have a strong personality, which is why I think people find her boring or confusing, we can’t really understand her even though we’re inside her head!!
THANK YOU for bringing up Needletail's treatment of Violetshine. EVERYONE just GUSHES over Needle's sacrifice and I'm just like "Yeah she was still a bad cat who probably shouldn't have been allowed into StarClan BECAUSE SHE LITERALLY HELPED ROGUES TAKE OVER SHADOWCLAN AND WAS ABUSIVE TOWARDS A KIT." But for some reason the fandom just loves her.

i actually never exactly “forgot” about violet shine. I really like protagonists who are antagonistic, those including Ivypool, Hollyleaf and Violetshine. Violetshine, though, is probably my least favourite of the three though, but i never really just forgot about her. Also, AHHHH YOU’RE REALLY CLOSE TO 100K!!
I could honestly relate to ViolentShine in the books when she was an apprentice/kit The needlessly bullying is what I could relate to the most as well as the fact that she couldn’t really *fit in* as I like to say Mostly because I’ve been in these situations more than a child really should be in my life
I loved Violetshine(and love Needletail) as a paw. It was an interesting perspective and story- but now she’s just.. there. ( I have to say tho I forget about what she actually did in VoS. I just knew I liked her. I’m rereading VoS, because my memory is- Darktail- uh, Onestar dies.
I think VioletShine's problem is that she's so used to abuse, but sticks to her abuser bcuz she knows nothing else. So when TwigPaw doesn't stay with her, she's feeling like she's gonna be alone and abused again. Tree is her only way out now.
Twigbranch is so much more interesting than Violetshine tbh. Twigpaw was super annoying at first but determined to find her family. She grew into an honorable young cat who breaks rules to find her happiness. Even when finding her family she feels disconnected. She’s the only female cat I can think of who actually didn’t want kits, and stood up against her mate. She was also bad with other kits which I found interesting considering she was so into family as a kit. Idk I just am really fond of Twigbranch and wish she had more content
violetshine was one of my favourite character. i feel like she suffered a lot during her kithood which scarred her a lot and the only cat that ever paid any slightly posiitve attention to her that she could talk to at the time was needle, which was her sort of getting attached to her and getting this odd mindset thst needle was the only one that cared about her. i thought that violet developed, well. . . trust issues with her treatment which was why she was so cautious towards twig, etc. needle was unnessarily cruel to her and manipulated her and stuff, forcing her to follow her and making her feel guilty for wanting to see twig, making her feel bad about liking and loving twig and wanting to see her and resulted in her not trusting twig very much. her trauma from everything the kin and needle and shadowclan and everyone put her through may be the reason she was so reluctant to forgive twig, perhaps fearing that twig might use her like needle did if she forgave her, but i may just be paying too much attention to small details. even after needle's death, needle tried to make her feel guilty for wanting to do what *she* (violet) wanted and not listening to needle for once. i like to think that tree helped her trust easier and settle down and live the peaceful, happier life she always dreamed of and wanted since she was a kit. i dont know, i just love her. her name is cute, i sort of like her personality, her design is pretty, i related to her and her sitiuation a lot during reading which may be why i love her so much. i just love her. idm if people dont though. :)
I know this comment is like, two years old, but I'd like to share my thoughts if that's alright lol. don't think Needle was using Violet on purpose. I just reread AVoS a couple days ago, and while yeah I can admit Needle might not've made the best choices for Violet's wellbeing, I believe she genuinely cared about Violet and was trying to help her. Her heart was in the right place. She didn't intend for Violet to hate her sister (her and Alderpaw set meetings for them at first, actually), but once Twigpaw and the rest of ThunderClan became her enemy, she had to stay loyal to her group. What makes you feel Needle was unnecessarily cruel and mistreated her? Because how I interpreted it was that Needle tried her best to be a friend for Violetpaw, but her best wasn't great. Needle was the only cat nice to her, and instead of manipulating her to follow her, I think she was only trying to include her, because she cared about her. This is shown with her Sacrifice. You know? Maybe the reason Violet was afraid to open up to Twig was because she worried that if she trusted anyone again, she'd lose them like how she lost Needletail.
Maybe Violetshine needs her own novella so we can finally experience growth, like after the Vision of Shadows books but before the next arc. Might make her a more relatable and likable character if we see more into her. Also I think you should do a video of (in your opinion) the Top 10 Worst cats in the warriors books. I feel like it should be based off of their development and just if they are likable or not likable. (Don't know if you have already done this probably have but just an idea P:)
I really think that they should have made Needletail the pov character for ShadowClan and the Kin. She was the one hurt most by Rain's death, and she could have served better as a ghost talking through Tree in the second half of the arc, this making his powers a bit more useful. Twigbranch would have been the only kit in her litter, not that it changes much because her conflict with Violetshine didn't change much in the plot. SkyClan still would have been found by her, she still would have stayed with them for a bit for her dad before leaving, ect.
I HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE NEXT VIDEO!!! Title: How did Raggedstar almost doom all the clans? or Why does Raggedstar belong in the Dark Forest? I like the first one better... Raggedstar appointed his son deputy, only to have all his lives ripped away from him by his own son and deputy (against the warrior code). This is the main mistake he made, and the following happened because of this: This led to Brokentail becoming Brokenstar. Brokenstar led war against WindClan, eventually driving them out of the forest. If it wasn't for Fireheart and Graystripe, WindClan would probably have been lost forever. In the battles with WindClan, Brokenstar gained many followers and many enemies. He also killed or seriously injured and traumatized many cats. He thought so much about bloodshed that he forced three-moon-old kits of his own clan to become apprentices (this is also against the warrior code). So many ShadowClan apprentices died, including Mosspaw, Volepaw, and Badgerfang, that Brokenstar ordered his deputy, Blackfoot, to attempt to steal kits from ThunderClan. Blackfoot kills Rosetail the elder (against the warrior code) in this battle (he was also very scared about reporting to Brokenstar about the failure, despite being his deputy and closest follower). Brokenstar then killed his grandmother, Brightflower's (he doesn't know he is her grandson at this point) kits, and they are also his aunt and uncle. He blames the murders on Yellowfang, his own mother and medicine cat, (but at this point he again doesn't know), and exiles her. After a while, Brokenstar orders another patrol to attack ThunderClan and steal kits, leading to the death of Spottedleaf and Lionheart, and Cinderkit, Brackenkit, Ashkit, and Fernkit were taken to ShadowClan. This led to ThunderClan attacking ShadowClan, and Brokenstar was driven out along with many of his followers. Brokenstar then wanders onto ThunderClan territory (I forgot why, but he did) and is blinded by Yellowfang and held prisoner in ThunderClan's camp. He plots with Tigerclaw of ThunderClan and his followers to get himself broken out and Bluestar killed. This plan fails, and Tigerclaw is exiled and Brokenstar is fed deathberries by Yellowfang, ultimately ending his life. Tigerclaw becomes leader of Brokenstar's followers. Tigerclaw attacks a ThunderClan patrol, killing Runningwind, and when Fireheart investigates, Whitethroat is chased onto the Thunderpath and dies. Tigerclaw and his followers go to ShadowClan territory and find the clan in ruins due to a harsh sickness. They offer to hunt and care for the clan, earning the trust and support of the weakened warriors. Nightstar dies from the sickness, and due to the fact that Brokenstar was still alive when Nightpelt became leader, he was not gifted nine lives. Therefore, Nightstar journeys to StarClan. Tigerclaw, with the support of ShadowClan, becomes leader of ShadowClan, journeying to the Moonstone to earn nine lives. Whitetail gives him a live to not judge small cats before battle. Tigerstar, with Blackfoot's (his deputy) help, made a path of rabbits for the dogs, who have settled in Snakerocks, to follow, all the way to the ThunderClan camp. Tigerstar kills Brindleface to let the dogs get a taste for cat blood. Fireheart, now ThunderClan's deputy, finds Brindleface's corpse outside off camp, and soon traces the rabbit trail all the way back to Snakerocks. He makes a plan for his clan to be saved, but Tigerstar interferes. Fireheart is almost killed, but Bluestar saves him from the jaws of the dogs and she falls into the gorge. She dies beside her son and daughter, Stonefur and Mistyfoot. Tigerstar and Leopardstar join together to become TigerClan. Tigerstar orders for Stonefur to be killed. Blackfoot obeys, and kills the former RiverClan deputy. Boulder takes Tigerstar to the Twolegplace to recruit BloodClan and their leader, Scourge. Tigerstar, ignoring what Whitetail said, underestimates Scourge, and tries to defeat him, but Scourge easily takes all nine of Tigerstar's lives with a single blow. Firestar unites all of the clans to become LionClan and defeat BloodClan. During this battle, many cats die. After Tigerstar dies at the claws of Scourge, Blackfoot must become leader, and during his ceremony, he relives a lot of bad memories, including murdering Stonefur and Rosetail, attempting to steal kits from ThunderClan, and trusting both Tigerstar and Brokenstar. This was true torture to him. Tigerstar continues to train cats to be evil in the Dark Forest, and then rages a war against the clans, killing a ton of cats, living or dead, including Spottedleaf of StarClan and Firestar (Tigerstar dies as well). I would also like to point out that Raggedpelt also pressured Yellowfang to have his kits, ending in Yellowfang giving birth to Brokenstar.

Reading Spotfurs rebellion, finishing it a day ago, i admit i forgot about Violetshine. I actually remembered her when i saw Twigbranch named as a codebreaker and saw her at the rebels meeting.
Same. I was genuinely confused when I read that part, because I forgot she liked Tree so much. And also because I expected more build up. But I guess rushing the reveal also works..
I think violetshine could have worked. I feel like her flaw could have been her longing to be accepted. It's hinted through a lot of the arc that this she cat has serious abandonment issues. Imagine if they made this the vocal point of her character. She is taken away from her sister, she tries to reach out to her adoptive mother but is pushed away. Needletail is the only one who gives her the time of day other than tawnypelt who is far too busy to be any help. When needletail takes her to darktail. Violetkit is confused by this but is willing to listen to their ideas. And if needletail is OK with it, maybe it isn't that bad. As time goes on she sees the kin as family. Her conflict with twigpaw come from twigpaw being worried about her sister, criticizing the kin, who violetpaw is incredibly loyal to. It isn't until she sees how horribly needletail is bring treated that she starts to doubt the kin. And while she never agreed with what they did, she was too loyal to the group to ever turn tail. Maybe they Al's shielded her from the more gruesome parts of their plans so she would be more willing to follow them, and bc of her age. Imagine if darktail had discovered violetshines parentage and used her as leverage against hawk wing. The main battle happens with skyclan included. And hawk wing swallowed his pride choosing to go find his daughter instead of fighting darktail when onestar and his son battle each other to the death. After shattered sky violetpaw is in pieces. She goes to skyclan in hopes getting to know her father and birth clan would help but, she just feels hollow. She discovered the whole truth about darktail. But blames herself for it, and while she says she blames darktail for this, still holds a bit of loyalty towards him. Needletail guides violetshine to Tree who is one of the few cats who violetshine can talk to about darktail and how she truly feels. Tree tells her that everyone has parts of their life they regret and helps her cope with what she was a part of and forgive herself, while letting go of darktail.
I just feel like Needletail was like a big sister because Violetshine's sister was separated from her. Needletail was a bit of a bully, but was there when Violetshine needed her. Nobody is perfect.
Needletail was like a sister who was going through things. She was suffering from neglect, and that formed her to be, well, a rebel. She bullied Violetkit because she had feelings bottling up inside still, but she still sacrificed herself to save Violetpaw.
Violetshine actually is one of my favorite characters in this entire series. She had terrible circumstances, had the perspective in ShadowClan and the Kin, develops an aloof and cold personality from the trauma she grew up with but starts to heal in SkyClan with her new family, clan, and weird hippie boyfriend who's the polar opposite of her. I was always more invested in Violetshine's story than Twigbranch's or Alderheart's.
I've just realized, Miss Dako's designs for Darktail and Violetshine look EERILY similar. Same black markings on the rear end of both cats, same black paw, and same black speckles on leg and butt. And same black tail. Makes me wonder if Darktail is Twig and Violet's real dad.
Idk I felt like because Violet’paw liked Twig’paw so much she felt betrayed by her sister. Who had said in the series something along the lines of “ I’m having so much fun with you” sry I haven’t read these books in awhile and Violet’paw took this to an extreme, because she wanted to be with her sister so much. When she left the next day she was disappointed and felt betrayed. Then actually thinking, “ Needle’paw is my only friend.” And, honestly I think it makes sense that with her fallout with her sister, she would be more desperate to do whatever Needle’paw says as to not ruin their “friendship” and after awhile of being fed the same information from darktail, over and over she started to believe it

Violet paw is the twin adopted from foster care that goes to the crappy couple while twig paw got adopted by competent richer peeps. I always felt bad for her.

Violetshine is my favorite. Her story is one of loss and finding your family! I think it makes perfect sense for her to have kits at the end of the arc, giving her her own family. Such Violetshine disrespect in these comments :c
I swear, theres always an energetic, sassy protagonist in warriors, and then when they have kits, they become the most angelic thing ever, then get forgotten. Example, Squirrelflight. She was sassy, fierce,energetic and now that she had Alderheart and Sparkpelt, she was all sweet and kind, though I do get it, kits will make you softer, but its like she lost all her energetic ness and fierceness. This is all my opinion and no one has to agree with me.

I liked Violetshines's POVs better because they were in a different setting, ShadowClan and SkyClan and also where most of the action was taking place, whereas I didnt care about Alderheart or Twigbranch's chapters because I was already fed up with ThunderClan, but yeah the only interesting thing is her POVs, the fact that she just witnesses the central conflict, and also because she is a blackandwhite cat, my favorites and I hate they dont get any representation in warriors, they are always that background character that gets killed in an instant or just some random rogue or kittypet

Please make a video about her one day From what I've known is that very few Needletail Fans treat her as a saint who's now all good because she sacrificed her life for Violetpaw. Most fans (there will always be a few who do treat her as an angel, but we're talking about the majority of the fandom) like her because she's such a flawed and real character, who went from a rebellious and impulsive teenager to a matured cat who sees and deeply regrets her mistakes. It's her flaws that make her sympathetic. And no one of us ever said that she did everything right and was the best friend there could be for Violetpaw. She wasn't very good with her friends, that's because she didn't know any better, but her intents came from good faith. It's not an excuse to treat others poorly if you weren't given the love, you are expected to give, but it's an explanation and it makes Needletail the tragic character she is, until she died, she was surrounded by tragedy. She never had a proper chance to redeem herself in her lifetimes, and her sacrifice is the closest to redemption. On the other hand, MANY Needletail Haters just hate her for no reason or for really superficial reasons, and it shows that they haven't truly understood her character, or don't have enough insight to empathize with her. That's mostly a question of privilege. Talking with many Needletail haters is talking with children. Like I have no problem if you see her flaws and don't like her because of them, but mostly, I see people just disliking her for superficial things, that don't say anything about her character at all. Or because she's "rude". Like, there were many quote on quote "rude" she-cats in Warriors (Yellowfang, Sandpaw (Season 1 Arc 1), Squirrelflight, Ivypool, Blossomfall) and that's what makes them memorable. When toms can be "rude", she-cats can too, and I prefer them over the overly soft she-cats who wouldn't hurt a fly and are just there to have kits
Violetshine was a very loyal cat to the ones she love mainly Twigbranch, Tree ,and Hawkwing(I think). She was really hurt when Twigbranch left with finleap to go back to thunderclan. She eventually had kits with Tree Rootkit and Needlekit. I just finished reading this ark so you're welcome.
Violetshine was such a wasted opportunity. There's so much about AVoS that you could change to make it infinitely better without changing the over-arcing plot. Most of what people like are the little interactions that are bottled up in smaller asides, like Jayfeather feeling through how to be a mentor and Ivypool struggling to reconcile her family life. The combination of an unpredictable but natural threat in Darktail and the buildup of more background characters made it feel like the series was really starting to work on what the readers care about.. euh... I like what you suggest with giving Violetkit a different trajectory. Having Violetkit/shine go all in with the Kin gives her a more equal relationship with Needletail and a better way to redeem both of them once they start grasping the consequences of their actions. Her secret meetings with Twigbranch and her genuine connection to the cats around her can be just enough of a moral grounding to get her spark back. And maybe inspire Needletail to admit she cares about cats even though she feels like no one ever cared for her. (Except Alderpaw and the kits, and clan life just ruined all that... from Needlepaw's perspective, the clans were dead set on ripping apart what could have been her found family so of course she continued down a bad path.) By the time SkyClan arrives Violetshine can share a leading role with the other protagonists as a character who can see the virtue in others/outsiders when others might not, and we would see the end of her character arc as someone who can face harsh truths head on but approach big problems with a lot of empathy. She can still be a little too eager to act outside the code, which can keep a bit of her initial flaws while wrapping up her character arc by the time AVoS is completed. Violetshine x Tree I can take or leave but Tree is so gnarly that I'd hate to see him go. (Just let him actually be mediator! I swear...) But giving her more agency gives the book a way to build this relationship up in a way that makes sense. And if we're going around tidying up character development, we can rescue what we loved so much about Rootspring. ... I don't have near enough time to do these full series rewrites people seem to love so much but I might steal some of it for scenes. ♥ Good video, and good seeing the both of you team up to dive into a character that had so much more promise. ... and if anyone read all that rambling, uh, have a cookie.
I searched through the books and found some stuff about her personality: Violetshine is a serious cat who's extremely unsure of herself, and wants to be more like Hawkwing, but also wants to be more positive like twigbranch, this is proved by darkest night, around the bottom of page 88
I was really frustrated by how needlessly mean Needlepaw (and shadowclan) were to Violetkit and soured my opinion of Needletail as a whole. I would have liked her chapters a lot more if she was taken in by Darktail's plans because of resentment towards both Needle and Shadowclan and then realizing how wrong she was
VioletShine is one of my favorite characters, but I hate that they made her mates with Tree, maybe if they did it slower, Literally at the end of the book its revealed she's expecting kits, when we hardly heard anything else, but I love pretty much anything else about her
Twigbranch is also a LONG FORGOTTEN character, in my opinion. Nowadays, Violetshine gets all the fame and nobody bothers to put Twigbranch on their favorite character's list. It's really annoying. Sure, Twigbranch can be nosy and whiny, but I love her flaws, and she isn't even that whiny. I love her character development and her rebellious streak, as well as her passion for being a warrior, her bonding friendship with Alderheart, her development with the grumpy Jayfeather, her connection and development with Violetshine, her connection with Finleap, her curiosity to ask questions (sometimes in an overwhelming but cute way), and her determination and resilience to do what she believes is right. She's flawed, but in a good way that makes her an enjoyable character. I also love Violetshine, but in a different way, of course. I honestly hate when people argue that Twigbranch consistently abandoned Violetshine, and they completely forget the fact that Violetshine has also abandoned Twigbranch many times. However, I love them both for their courage, their connection with SkyClan and each other, and their loyalty and faith in what they believe is right. I disagree so much, Violetshine’s whole conflict is finding someone who would support and be there for her. This cat is desperate for someone to love her. The reason she snaps at Twig is because Violet sees her sister as abandoning her when Twig goes back to ThunderClan (even if ShadowClan was keeping Twig as a hostage). Violet sticks to Needletail, despite Needle’s questionable treatment of her, because technically speaking Needle never “abandoned” her (it was Violet who left the Kin after Darktail half blinded Rain). As for how she didn’t chime in on Darktail talking trash about the Clans when she meets them as a kit, I kind felt like she didn’t really know what was going on, and despite ShadowClan’s awful treatment of her, the Clans ways and anti-rouge rhetoric was probably something that was enforced into her head and she just parroted it back. Kind of gives me the impression of a little kid trying to argue against something with, “but the other adults say this is how things are”. When she becomes a ‘paw I think the reason she still doesn’t latch onto the rogue’s ideology or Darktail is because she’s scare of their brutality, especially after Darktail blinded Rain. The times she does stay and side with the rogues is to be with Needletail, a situation of putting your actual opinions aside and/or mirroring others beliefs to be close to someone. I can only assume the reason she went back to ShadowClan and not ThunderClan after she left the rogues was because it’s the clan she’s most familiar with. It’s one of the few plot contrivances that I actually think matters. Basically what I’m getting at is that Violetshine has serious abandonment problems and that’s her arc, finding someone to love her and a place where she belongs (which she does find in her father, Hawkheart and in SkyClan). Yes, her story could’ve probably been written better (I mean that’s true for a lot of Warriors books), but for what I got I think it’s some of the best Warriors has offered. I’m not going to comment on the latter half of AVOS because I don’t remember to much of it, but I will stand by that the first half of this arc is one of the best Warriors has put out, second only to the first series and that Violetshine is one of my all time favorites out of Warriors characters.
100% this is what I was thinking the whole video. Love the creators in the video but she had major internal conflicts and trauma that led to extreme people pleasing and abandonment issues. If she did what others wanted and never burdened others with her opinions then they wouldn't have reasons to abandon her. I do wish she was more fleshed out and written better. I liked her more than Twig. I never cared for Tree either that was an interesting mate choice I'd love to understand better.
@@Nioriel26 Exactly! I feel like people aren’t focusing on how severe Violetshine’s abandonment issues are. I honestly think she’s one of the more under appreciated characters in the franchise, or at the very least isn’t given the amount of thought or analysis others are given.
Violetshine and Needletail both had really rough beginnings and didn't start well in their lives, but Violetshine still has the chance to make something out of her life and not let her past define her of who she is. Needletail doesn't have that chance, as she has sacrificed it for Violetshine. It's so sad that the authors didn't realize that and failed to make Violetshine the fleshed out character she should be. She could've been such an interesting and complex character and just as cool and entertaining as Twigbranch. You know, Twigbranch is awesome!

Violetshine suffered Female Protagonist Disease. Where the authors give her lots of screen time, little depth, and then make her pregnant so that they can make the next arc’s protagonist her spawn so readers can go “OH THEY’RE RELATED TO [Insert Female Protag Name Here]”.

Dovewing at least gets a lot of dialogue and *an actual relationship* with Shadowsight that matters plot-wise. This isn’t the case for Violetshine and Rootspring, who never talk to each other.
Edit : It works better with Ivypool, who she and Fernsong have barely any relationship at all with Bristlefrost.

The Violetpaw Twigpaw arc was literally just Dovepaw and Ivypaw under different circumstances imo. Especially how Twigpaw and Ivypaw were both held captive by ShadowClan. Violetshine and Tree was so rushed to me and it was an awful attempt at romance. Twigbranch and Finleap had potential at the beginning, but the last book of the arc completely butchered him.

Characters that exist with the single purpose to be the love interest of a major character aren’t my thing. I wouldn’t hurt to have a small thing going on with Needle and Alder. Having something between those two would actually be somewhat interesting and bring something new to the “Med cat and other clan cat banging” cliche.
Violetshine was one of my favourite characters in A Vision of Shadows because I felt like I could relate to her struggles a lot, and because she did the whole spy thing way better than Ivypool.
Also, I think her relationship with Tree is cute, even though it wasn't developed much.
But in The Broken Code, she's been pretty much non - existent.

Violetshine had and has attachment issues because of the trauma she endured (having her mother die and father gone at a young age, and being ripped away from her original adoptive family / clan). As someone both educated on and with trauma, it does not make people (or cats in this case) make rational decisions or assumptions. Violetpaw thought Twigpaw abandoned her because of this.
It's also the same reason she would have stayed with Needletail and The Kin despite not approving or being treated well. She was traumatized and still living in the traumatic situation.
Taking her trauma into account, her choice to just follow along with what's going on around her and her perception of her relationships makes a lot more sense.
I think your explanation is interesting, but they never really treat it like that in the books and she doesn’t have a strong personality, which is why I think people find her boring or confusing, we can’t really understand her even though we’re inside her head!!

I think VioletShine's problem is that she's so used to abuse, but sticks to her abuser bcuz she knows nothing else. So when TwigPaw doesn't stay with her, she's feeling like she's gonna be alone and abused again.
Tree is her only way out now.

Twigbranch is so much more interesting than Violetshine tbh. Twigpaw was super annoying at first but determined to find her family. She grew into an honorable young cat who breaks rules to find her happiness. Even when finding her family she feels disconnected. She’s the only female cat I can think of who actually didn’t want kits, and stood up against her mate. She was also bad with other kits which I found interesting considering she was so into family as a kit. Idk I just am really fond of Twigbranch and wish she had more content

violetshine was one of my favourite character. i feel like she suffered a lot during her kithood which scarred her a lot and the only cat that ever paid any slightly posiitve attention to her that she could talk to at the time was needle, which was her sort of getting attached to her and getting this odd mindset thst needle was the only one that cared about her. i thought that violet developed, well. . . trust issues with her treatment which was why she was so cautious towards twig, etc.
needle was unnessarily cruel to her and manipulated her and stuff, forcing her to follow her and making her feel guilty for wanting to see twig, making her feel bad about liking and loving twig and wanting to see her and resulted in her not trusting twig very much. her trauma from everything the kin and needle and shadowclan and everyone put her through may be the reason she was so reluctant to forgive twig, perhaps fearing that twig might use her like needle did if she forgave her, but i may just be paying too much attention to small details.
even after needle's death, needle tried to make her feel guilty for wanting to do what *she* (violet) wanted and not listening to needle for once.
i like to think that tree helped her trust easier and settle down and live the peaceful, happier life she always dreamed of and wanted since she was a kit.
i dont know, i just love her. her name is cute, i sort of like her personality, her design is pretty, i related to her and her sitiuation a lot during reading which may be why i love her so much.

I know this comment is like, two years old, but I'd like to share my thoughts if that's alright lol.
don't think Needle was using Violet on purpose. I just reread AVoS a couple days ago, and while yeah I can admit Needle might not've made the best choices for Violet's wellbeing, I believe she genuinely cared about Violet and was trying to help her. Her heart was in the right place.
She didn't intend for Violet to hate her sister (her and Alderpaw set meetings for them at first, actually), but once Twigpaw and the rest of ThunderClan became her enemy, she had to stay loyal to her group. What makes you feel Needle was unnecessarily cruel and mistreated her? Because how I interpreted it was that Needle tried her best to be a friend for Violetpaw, but her best wasn't great.
Needle was the only cat nice to her, and instead of manipulating her to follow her, I think she was only trying to include her, because she cared about her. This is shown with her Sacrifice. You know? Maybe the reason Violet was afraid to open up to Twig was because she worried that if she trusted anyone again, she'd lose them like how she lost Needletail.
My favorite character got horrible treatment, RIP.

I really think that they should have made Needletail the pov character for ShadowClan and the Kin. She was the one hurt most by Rain's death, and she could have served better as a ghost talking through Tree in the second half of the arc, this making his powers a bit more useful. Twigbranch would have been the only kit in her litter, not that it changes much because her conflict with Violetshine didn't change much in the plot. SkyClan still would have been found by her, she still would have stayed with them for a bit for her dad before leaving, ect.
That would've been awesome. A completely antagonistic protagonist that goes through so much development. Love that.

Raggedstar appointed his son deputy, only to have all his lives ripped away from him by his own son and deputy (against the warrior code). This is the main mistake he made, and the following happened because of this:
This led to Brokentail becoming Brokenstar.
Brokenstar led war against WindClan, eventually driving them out of the forest.
If it wasn't for Fireheart and Graystripe, WindClan would probably have been lost forever.
In the battles with WindClan, Brokenstar gained many followers and many enemies. He also killed or seriously injured and traumatized many cats.
He thought so much about bloodshed that he forced three-moon-old kits of his own clan to become apprentices (this is also against the warrior code).
So many ShadowClan apprentices died, including Mosspaw, Volepaw, and Badgerfang, that Brokenstar ordered his deputy, Blackfoot, to attempt to steal kits from ThunderClan. Blackfoot kills Rosetail the elder (against the warrior code) in this battle (he was also very scared about reporting to Brokenstar about the failure, despite being his deputy and closest follower).
Brokenstar then killed his grandmother, Brightflower's (he doesn't know he is her grandson at this point) kits, and they are also his aunt and uncle. He blames the murders on Yellowfang, his own mother and medicine cat, (but at this point he again doesn't know), and exiles her.
After a while, Brokenstar orders another patrol to attack ThunderClan and steal kits, leading to the death of Spottedleaf and Lionheart, and Cinderkit, Brackenkit, Ashkit, and Fernkit were taken to ShadowClan.
This led to ThunderClan attacking ShadowClan, and Brokenstar was driven out along with many of his followers.
Brokenstar then wanders onto ThunderClan territory (I forgot why, but he did) and is blinded by Yellowfang and held prisoner in ThunderClan's camp.
He plots with Tigerclaw of ThunderClan and his followers to get himself broken out and Bluestar killed. This plan fails, and Tigerclaw is exiled and Brokenstar is fed deathberries by Yellowfang, ultimately ending his life.
Tigerclaw becomes leader of Brokenstar's followers.
Tigerclaw attacks a ThunderClan patrol, killing Runningwind, and when Fireheart investigates, Whitethroat is chased onto the Thunderpath and dies.
Tigerclaw and his followers go to ShadowClan territory and find the clan in ruins due to a harsh sickness. They offer to hunt and care for the clan, earning the trust and support of the weakened warriors.
Nightstar dies from the sickness, and due to the fact that Brokenstar was still alive when Nightpelt became leader, he was not gifted nine lives. Therefore, Nightstar journeys to StarClan.
Tigerclaw, with the support of ShadowClan, becomes leader of ShadowClan, journeying to the Moonstone to earn nine lives.
Whitetail gives him a live to not judge small cats before battle.
Tigerstar, with Blackfoot's (his deputy) help, made a path of rabbits for the dogs, who have settled in Snakerocks, to follow, all the way to the ThunderClan camp. Tigerstar kills Brindleface to let the dogs get a taste for cat blood.
Fireheart, now ThunderClan's deputy, finds Brindleface's corpse outside off camp, and soon traces the rabbit trail all the way back to Snakerocks. He makes a plan for his clan to be saved, but Tigerstar interferes. Fireheart is almost killed, but Bluestar saves him from the jaws of the dogs and she falls into the gorge. She dies beside her son and daughter, Stonefur and Mistyfoot.
Tigerstar and Leopardstar join together to become TigerClan.
Tigerstar orders for Stonefur to be killed. Blackfoot obeys, and kills the former RiverClan deputy.
Boulder takes Tigerstar to the Twolegplace to recruit BloodClan and their leader, Scourge.
Tigerstar, ignoring what Whitetail said, underestimates Scourge, and tries to defeat him, but Scourge easily takes all nine of Tigerstar's lives with a single blow.
Firestar unites all of the clans to become LionClan and defeat BloodClan. During this battle, many cats die.
After Tigerstar dies at the claws of Scourge, Blackfoot must become leader, and during his ceremony, he relives a lot of bad memories, including murdering Stonefur and Rosetail, attempting to steal kits from ThunderClan, and trusting both Tigerstar and Brokenstar. This was true torture to him.
Tigerstar continues to train cats to be evil in the Dark Forest, and then rages a war against the clans, killing a ton of cats, living or dead, including Spottedleaf of StarClan and Firestar (Tigerstar dies as well).
I would also like to point out that Raggedpelt also pressured Yellowfang to have his kits, ending in Yellowfang giving birth to Brokenstar.
He blamed yellow fang for killing the newest kits not killing brightflower
So.. basically "How Brokenstar and Tigerstar were Villains"? I see very little Raggedstar in this.

Reading Spotfurs rebellion, finishing it a day ago, i admit i forgot about Violetshine. I actually remembered her when i saw Twigbranch named as a codebreaker and saw her at the rebels meeting.

I think violetshine could have worked. I feel like her flaw could have been her longing to be accepted. It's hinted through a lot of the arc that this she cat has serious abandonment issues.
Imagine if they made this the vocal point of her character. She is taken away from her sister, she tries to reach out to her adoptive mother but is pushed away. Needletail is the only one who gives her the time of day other than tawnypelt who is far too busy to be any help.
When needletail takes her to darktail. Violetkit is confused by this but is willing to listen to their ideas. And if needletail is OK with it, maybe it isn't that bad. As time goes on she sees the kin as family. Her conflict with twigpaw come from twigpaw being worried about her sister, criticizing the kin, who violetpaw is incredibly loyal to. It isn't until she sees how horribly needletail is bring treated that she starts to doubt the kin. And while she never agreed with what they did, she was too loyal to the group to ever turn tail. Maybe they Al's shielded her from the more gruesome parts of their plans so she would be more willing to follow them, and bc of her age.
Imagine if darktail had discovered violetshines parentage and used her as leverage against hawk wing. The main battle happens with skyclan included. And hawk wing swallowed his pride choosing to go find his daughter instead of fighting darktail when onestar and his son battle each other to the death.
After shattered sky violetpaw is in pieces. She goes to skyclan in hopes getting to know her father and birth clan would help but, she just feels hollow. She discovered the whole truth about darktail. But blames herself for it, and while she says she blames darktail for this, still holds a bit of loyalty towards him.
Needletail guides violetshine to Tree who is one of the few cats who violetshine can talk to about darktail and how she truly feels. Tree tells her that everyone has parts of their life they regret and helps her cope with what she was a part of and forgive herself, while letting go of darktail.

Needletail was like a sister who was going through things. She was suffering from neglect, and that formed her to be, well, a rebel. She bullied Violetkit because she had feelings bottling up inside still, but she still sacrificed herself to save Violetpaw.

Violetshine actually is one of my favorite characters in this entire series. She had terrible circumstances, had the perspective in ShadowClan and the Kin, develops an aloof and cold personality from the trauma she grew up with but starts to heal in SkyClan with her new family, clan, and weird hippie boyfriend who's the polar opposite of her. I was always more invested in Violetshine's story than Twigbranch's or Alderheart's.

Idk I felt like because Violet’paw liked Twig’paw so much she felt betrayed by her sister. Who had said in the series something along the lines of “ I’m having so much fun with you” sry I haven’t read these books in awhile and Violet’paw took this to an extreme, because she wanted to be with her sister so much. When she left the next day she was disappointed and felt betrayed. Then actually thinking, “ Needle’paw is my only friend.” And, honestly I think it makes sense that with her fallout with her sister, she would be more desperate to do whatever Needle’paw says as to not ruin their “friendship” and after awhile of being fed the same information from darktail, over and over she started to believe it

Violetshine is my favorite. Her story is one of loss and finding your family!
I think it makes perfect sense for her to have kits at the end of the arc, giving her her own family.

I swear, theres always an energetic, sassy protagonist in warriors, and then when they have kits, they become the most angelic thing ever, then get forgotten. Example, Squirrelflight. She was sassy, fierce,energetic and now that she had Alderheart and Sparkpelt, she was all sweet and kind, though I do get it, kits will make you softer, but its like she lost all her energetic ness and fierceness. This is all my opinion and no one has to agree with me.

I liked Violetshines's POVs better because they were in a different setting, ShadowClan and SkyClan and also where most of the action was taking place, whereas I didnt care about Alderheart or Twigbranch's chapters because I was already fed up with ThunderClan, but yeah the only interesting thing is her POVs, the fact that she just witnesses the central conflict, and also because she is a blackandwhite cat, my favorites and I hate they dont get any representation in warriors, they are always that background character that gets killed in an instant or just some random rogue or kittypet

From what I've known is that very few Needletail Fans treat her as a saint who's now all good because she sacrificed her life for Violetpaw. Most fans (there will always be a few who do treat her as an angel, but we're talking about the majority of the fandom) like her because she's such a flawed and real character, who went from a rebellious and impulsive teenager to a matured cat who sees and deeply regrets her mistakes. It's her flaws that make her sympathetic. And no one of us ever said that she did everything right and was the best friend there could be for Violetpaw. She wasn't very good with her friends, that's because she didn't know any better, but her intents came from good faith. It's not an excuse to treat others poorly if you weren't given the love, you are expected to give, but it's an explanation and it makes Needletail the tragic character she is, until she died, she was surrounded by tragedy. She never had a proper chance to redeem herself in her lifetimes, and her sacrifice is the closest to redemption.
On the other hand, MANY Needletail Haters just hate her for no reason or for really superficial reasons, and it shows that they haven't truly understood her character, or don't have enough insight to empathize with her. That's mostly a question of privilege. Talking with many Needletail haters is talking with children. Like I have no problem if you see her flaws and don't like her because of them, but mostly, I see people just disliking her for superficial things, that don't say anything about her character at all. Or because she's "rude". Like, there were many quote on quote "rude" she-cats in Warriors (Yellowfang, Sandpaw (Season 1 Arc 1), Squirrelflight, Ivypool, Blossomfall) and that's what makes them memorable. When toms can be "rude", she-cats can too, and I prefer them over the overly soft she-cats who wouldn't hurt a fly and are just there to have kits
Violetshine was a very loyal cat to the ones she love mainly Twigbranch, Tree ,and Hawkwing(I think). She was really hurt when Twigbranch left with finleap to go back to thunderclan. She eventually had kits with Tree Rootkit and Needlekit. I just finished reading this ark so you're welcome.
The fact that I actually forgot about her-

Violetshine was such a wasted opportunity. There's so much about AVoS that you could change to make it infinitely better without changing the over-arcing plot. Most of what people like are the little interactions that are bottled up in smaller asides, like Jayfeather feeling through how to be a mentor and Ivypool struggling to reconcile her family life. The combination of an unpredictable but natural threat in Darktail and the buildup of more background characters made it feel like the series was really starting to work on what the readers care about.. euh...
I like what you suggest with giving Violetkit a different trajectory. Having Violetkit/shine go all in with the Kin gives her a more equal relationship with Needletail and a better way to redeem both of them once they start grasping the consequences of their actions. Her secret meetings with Twigbranch and her genuine connection to the cats around her can be just enough of a moral grounding to get her spark back. And maybe inspire Needletail to admit she cares about cats even though she feels like no one ever cared for her. (Except Alderpaw and the kits, and clan life just ruined all that... from Needlepaw's perspective, the clans were dead set on ripping apart what could have been her found family so of course she continued down a bad path.)
By the time SkyClan arrives Violetshine can share a leading role with the other protagonists as a character who can see the virtue in others/outsiders when others might not, and we would see the end of her character arc as someone who can face harsh truths head on but approach big problems with a lot of empathy. She can still be a little too eager to act outside the code, which can keep a bit of her initial flaws while wrapping up her character arc by the time AVoS is completed.
Violetshine x Tree I can take or leave but Tree is so gnarly that I'd hate to see him go. (Just let him actually be mediator! I swear...) But giving her more agency gives the book a way to build this relationship up in a way that makes sense. And if we're going around tidying up character development, we can rescue what we loved so much about Rootspring.

I don't have near enough time to do these full series rewrites people seem to love so much but I might steal some of it for scenes. ♥ Good video, and good seeing the both of you team up to dive into a character that had so much more promise. ... and if anyone read all that rambling, uh, have a cookie.

I searched through the books and found some stuff about her personality: Violetshine is a serious cat who's extremely unsure of herself, and wants to be more like Hawkwing, but also wants to be more positive like twigbranch, this is proved by darkest night, around the bottom of page 88
I was really frustrated by how needlessly mean Needlepaw (and shadowclan) were to Violetkit and soured my opinion of Needletail as a whole. I would have liked her chapters a lot more if she was taken in by Darktail's plans because of resentment towards both Needle and Shadowclan and then realizing how wrong she was

Violetshine is the first character I ever seen when I entred in the fandom, trough a video called Warrior Cats Game and I'll Always remember her 💜
VioletShine is one of my favorite characters, but I hate that they made her mates with Tree, maybe if they did it slower, Literally at the end of the book its revealed she's expecting kits, when we hardly heard anything else, but I love pretty much anything else about her
Twigbranch is also a LONG FORGOTTEN character, in my opinion. Nowadays, Violetshine gets all the fame and nobody bothers to put Twigbranch on their favorite character's list. It's really annoying. Sure, Twigbranch can be nosy and whiny, but I love her flaws, and she isn't even that whiny. I love her character development and her rebellious streak, as well as her passion for being a warrior, her bonding friendship with Alderheart, her development with the grumpy Jayfeather, her connection and development with Violetshine, her connection with Finleap, her curiosity to ask questions (sometimes in an overwhelming but cute way), and her determination and resilience to do what she believes is right. She's flawed, but in a good way that makes her an enjoyable character. I also love Violetshine, but in a different way, of course. I honestly hate when people argue that Twigbranch consistently abandoned Violetshine, and they completely forget the fact that Violetshine has also abandoned Twigbranch many times. However, I love them both for their courage, their connection with SkyClan and each other, and their loyalty and faith in what they believe is right. It just makes them very interesting and enjoyable characters to read about.

I disagree so much, Violetshine’s whole conflict is finding someone who would support and be there for her. This cat is desperate for someone to love her. The reason she snaps at Twig is because Violet sees her sister as abandoning her when Twig goes back to ThunderClan (even if ShadowClan was keeping Twig as a hostage). Violet sticks to Needletail, despite Needle’s questionable treatment of her, because technically speaking Needle never “abandoned” her (it was Violet who left the Kin after Darktail half blinded Rain).
As for how she didn’t chime in on Darktail talking trash about the Clans when she meets them as a kit, I kind felt like she didn’t really know what was going on, and despite ShadowClan’s awful treatment of her, the Clans ways and anti-rouge rhetoric was probably something that was enforced into her head and she just parroted it back. Kind of gives me the impression of a little kid trying to argue against something with, “but the other adults say this is how things are”. When she becomes a ‘paw I think the reason she still doesn’t latch onto the rogue’s ideology or Darktail is because she’s scare of their brutality, especially after Darktail blinded Rain. The times she does stay and side with the rogues is to be with Needletail, a situation of putting your actual opinions aside and/or mirroring others beliefs to be close to someone.
I can only assume the reason she went back to ShadowClan and not ThunderClan after she left the rogues was because it’s the clan she’s most familiar with. It’s one of the few plot contrivances that I actually think matters.
Basically what I’m getting at is that Violetshine has serious abandonment problems and that’s her arc, finding someone to love her and a place where she belongs (which she does find in her father, Hawkheart and in SkyClan). Yes, her story could’ve probably been written better (I mean that’s true for a lot of Warriors books), but for what I got I think it’s some of the best Warriors has offered.
I’m not going to comment on the latter half of AVOS because I don’t remember to much of it, but I will stand by that the first half of this arc is one of the best Warriors has put out, second only to the first series and that Violetshine is one of my all time favorites out of Warriors characters.
100% this is what I was thinking the whole video. Love the creators in the video but she had major internal conflicts and trauma that led to extreme people pleasing and abandonment issues. If she did what others wanted and never burdened others with her opinions then they wouldn't have reasons to abandon her. I do wish she was more fleshed out and written better. I liked her more than Twig. I never cared for Tree either that was an interesting mate choice I'd love to understand better.
@@Nioriel26 Exactly! I feel like people aren’t focusing on how severe Violetshine’s abandonment issues are. I honestly think she’s one of the more under appreciated characters in the franchise, or at the very least isn’t given the amount of thought or analysis others are given.

I read AVOS most recently. I do not remember Sleekwhisker at all except her name.
From what I can remember, violetshine was just a camera into Shadowclan for me. She had no personality, or at least nothing that was memorable
Violetshine and Needletail both had really rough beginnings and didn't start well in their lives, but Violetshine still has the chance to make something out of her life and not let her past define her of who she is. Needletail doesn't have that chance, as she has sacrificed it for Violetshine. It's so sad that the authors didn't realize that and failed to make Violetshine the fleshed out character she should be. She could've been such an interesting and complex character and just as cool and entertaining as Twigbranch. You know, Twigbranch is awesome!
