Never did music theory really but did play an instrument for 10 years. Part of it is the minor key of course, but mostly its the association you have to where music like it is most commonly found that makes it scary. In some cases you dont need the minor key to be scary like if a children's song is playing in an abandoned building in a scary movie. That would definitely be unnerving, but typically the song is associated with joy. In the context of a fearful environment it drives the nerves up. Not in the case of this song, but in a lot of scary music, it creates tension that puts you in suspense of what might happen as well. In the case of the song here, being slowed down gives it that uneasy feeling because we know thats not how it should normally sound. But alltogether, minor key where things sound more melancholic, and association to this type of music is what drives that uneasy feeling.
