Several different types of boxes are used . . . certainly in Europe. I've bought ALs in a plain silver coloured card box that opened at the ends. We also have hanging card packages with the pen behind a plastic blister (quite common). Oddly I've even bought ones with the carboard ring loose in the box! As i.c.3257 says - look for the little brass disk inside the cap - you should also be able to twist this by screwing the X on the outside (use a plastic blade not a screwdriver!). My older Safaris had brass buttons too, now they are fixed in place plastic.
As an irresponsible buyer who actually 'owned' a fake AL-Star, two things I noticed was the genuine AL-Star has a little piece of brass? Inside the cap while the fake doesn't and in the genuine AL-Star it has that "o-ring" that is connected to the plastic bit which is (probably) pressured fit into the AL-Star body, while in the fake it's easily unscrewedable.
Mine came with a label. The craziest thing is the label shows the Swiss Franc price as a much lower number than the Euro price. That's out of date now. Today's exchange rate [Jan 2023] is exactly 1:1

I think special or limited editions comes in different boxes
That’s a good call! Anyone with an accessory like the teddy bear one I often see on eBay is in a weird box.
Special edition Lamy Safari pens come in normal boxes. Special edition are those which have unique colors. This year's collection features mint colors
i have fake and original, and i compared them, they look the same weight length and writing, so I can't really tell the difference
Lamy gives a one year warranty certificate and authorised dealer will offer a free engraving service in Malaysia.
