    Well done, nicely filmed as always.

    Great video. If you want the bigger ones it's best to ledger a running rig with small roach in the deepest part you can find. Lob worm on a single size 4 works well for the smaller ones with the odd chunky one coming out too.

      Thanks mate! I will be sure to try that next time, the deepest part on that stretch I could find was mainly by the lock gates but I will have plum the rest.

      @@momentsinanglingessence855 another way to get the zeds is drop shooting a dead roach, I advise using e-sox soft strand 10lb just in case of a pike

      Cheers mate, I did drop shot a worm along there once or twice, got nothing!.. we rarely go for Zs but we want to try a new stretch at some point, can you reccomend anywhere for the larger ones?

      @@momentsinanglingessence855 Gloucester canal or the River Severn at Tewkesbury. I know it sounds a little bit odd but try drop shoting on a big scale with a dead roach. I will eventually loads of video up with the rig that I used to catch them with this method

      Sounds like it could be an effective method! I look forward to the video!

    I like the look of your float rig. If you don't mind would you send me some idea of how you tied it. I can tell its a paternoster by pausing the video but not much more. Cheers. And great video. I love the defiance!

      Hi Jaime, if you watch the 'Big Perch My Way" video on my channel, it shows you on there how I put it together 👍.

    As a local to the water your fishing i have had very good success with the zeds on lures and deads in the actual town rather then the village and bait size for deads have not been a problem they will take a half roach tail end or head p
    Of around 4 or 5 cm with ease i prefer to use just a simple float rig and works a treat

      OK cheers Jake! I am still learning how to fish those canals. So you reccomend the deadbaits on the bottom, and not suspended. We're hoping to try and catch some bigger ones.

    Is live bait fishing legal in the uk? I ask because in America we have walleye which are very similar to zander and a lot of people fish for them using slip bobber rigs and live bait such as night crawlers, leaches or live minnows with a good amount of success. Slip bobber rigs are easier for casting and adjusting your depth on the fly. I also recommend jigs and small plastic minnows they also work really well and can cover more water actively fishing vs waiting on a bobber bite

      Hi Jordan, most people in the UK catch Zander on lures, bobbers, jigs etc, and live baiting is allowed on most rivers and canals as well. This particular stretch we fished the Zander have obliterated most of the small live fish hence why we used dead baits. We also just love the method, seeing the float bounce and dissappear is so exciting. Zander and Walleye are pretty much the same fish but I've never tried to catch them on fly before, I might give it a go!.
      If you check out my video 'Big Perch My Way' I use a live baiting technique.
      Cheers for watching!

    Pretty new to fishing so don’t knock me ...is the Canal out of season like the rivers ???

    • @momentsinanglingessence855
      @momentsinanglingessence855  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you can fish most canals now during the close season. This allowance came in back in 2002 I believe.

    Do zander run all through the oxford canal

    • @momentsinanglingessence855
      @momentsinanglingessence855  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly the north towards Banbury, if the canal is clearer then its worth chucking a lure out.

      Zander tend to be found in the biggest numbers where boat traffic is highest on the Oxford canal in my experience. Looks like this video was shot just north of Cropredy.

      Well it was bigger and heavier than it looked on camera but would have settled for a pound Z on the day 😄
