I agree that there isn't much more I would rather be doing than out on a pack hunt. Great workout, great way to focus your senses, very rewarding all around. Thanks for the video and congrats
Thanks Cole. Backpack hunting is definitely one of those things, "if ya know...ya know". Impossible to explain to anyone that hasn't done it, but for those that love it...nothing else matters!
Your wind break is going to freak some Squatch hunter the F out lol. Great job getting your deer down. Very familiar to my hunt this year in WA, I left camp where is sat and just brought the buck out. Went back the next day and spent my extra days looking for elk. Great times!
Well done! You are correct tknow that one day you will look back at that hunt and those like it that push you hard and appreciate them. I packed our a few like that 5-7 miles deep into Colorado and New Mexico. Im 53 now and really appreciate those days when i was a little younger. I have spent the last few months getting in shape again because i have another NM hunt in a couple weeks.
Awesome, just found your channel recently - great stuff. I am new resident out here in WA. I would love to pick your brain a bit on the country out here.
Only in scoring a deer. Eye-guards are not counted when describing a mule deer buck. This is a 3x3 with eyeguards, not a 4x4. Confusing, but that's the way it is out West. In Wisconsin where I grew up, it'd be an 8 pointer.
Adult onset hunter here, going to be settling down in OR or WA when I'm out of the navy next summer and will be pursuing mulies, elk, and bear. Looking for a do it all rifle setup. Any caliber recommendations? I won't be taking any shots past 500 yards.
Hey Chris, first off, thanks for your service man. For a do-it all mountain rifle I really like light/handy set-ups. I prefer short action cartridges due to their weight and balance as well. If I could only have one rifle, and I needed it to hunt everything in the PNW, I'd scoop a .308 or 7mm-08 in the lightest/nicest configuration my budget allowed. For shots inside of 500, both of those cartridges are all ya need.

Haha I hadn't thought of that but you're probably right, especially in WA! Sqautchy for sure.
congrats on a successful hunt! Great attitude young man! That alone will take you far in life.
Thanks for tuning in.
No such thing as a bad day if you've got a good attitude. I try to live by that.

Shoot me a message on IG anytime bro. I started off with a push in the right direction from a few WA state legends myself.
@@mountainstomarshes8966 That would mean a lot - truly. What is your IG handle? I tried finding you - can't seem to pull you up?

I live in Yakima and was wondering if you know anything about unit 356 for mule deer?
Serious testicular fortitude. Nicely done.
It's a 4pt eyeguards count as points.

Hunting and guns are legal in Washington???
Haha, barely...that's one of the reasons we left 🤣
Thats how widowmakers make widows...😉
No doubt, by the time I realized how bad it was I was past the point of no return.
