- The Anchor, Terraria's most pointless weapon The Anchor. Today we take a look at a Terraria weapon I've been wanted to review for ages now, as despite it not really having any remarkable attributes, it just finds itself as one of the most pointless in the game. With it coming at a point where the same amount of effort can be put in to obtain alternatives like the Drippler Crippler! So enjoy another Terraria weapon roasting for a good 4 mins!

The fact that Gungnir managed to defeat Fishron with this thing is a marvel of mankind...
He did WHAT?!?!?!

@@hyprboi8869why, can't we be humourous and eFISHient
Right, this... Exists... It needs a base damage buff TBH.
I don't think that can save it, so Imma say it needs a projectile 'cause screw balancing, amirite
I think it needs that, and to inflict a powerful debuff. I think slowed or even a unique debuff that keeps enemies in place would work
Considering it got its dmg doubled in 1.4 I think it needs a whole rework
@@Lukastar1 it got its damage doubled and it's still awful
@@ianluk8855I think it could cause a “crippling”effect
1:16 This isn't how fishing power works! As fishing power increases, the odds of any catch from *any* rarity bracket goes up, except the "plentiful" bracket. (which only contains bass, or arctic cod and trout in other biomes) and fishing power also speeds up the time to land each catch. I don't think it's ever worth limiting your fishing power.
EDIT: The Pearlwood Crate is actually a plentiful catch (my bad!) But it's still always faster to have a higher fishing power. Here's the math! So if you caught 100 crates at 10 Fishing Power (FP), on average 96 would be Pearlwood. The average time between catches would be 3.8 seconds. At 75 FP, out of 100 crates on average, 66 would be Pearlwood. But your average catch time would be every 2 seconds. So even though a smaller percentage of your caught crates would be Pearlwood, *you'd be catching crates almost twice as fast.* You'd have caught about 123 Pearlwood Crates at 75 FP in the same time as you caught 96 Pearlwood Crates at 10 FP. And there's nothing special about 10 FP or 75 FP. A higher fishing power is *always* better! The rates actually get even better at really high fishing powers. Uncommon catches, like Mythril Crates, cap at a 1/3 chance at 100 FP, so if you have over 100 FP, you won't see a higher ratio of Mythril Crates, for example.
i mean you can get joja cola with low fishing power for the pet
@@kaiotrem358Trash can only be obtained in bodies of water under 300 in size (which also come with a scaling fishing power malus).
You could fish in the absolute worst conditions with the most basic bait and fishing pole and still get at least fish, yet if you get any trash, it means there's simply not enough water.
According to the Terraria wiki, the pearlwood crate is in the plentiful bracket.
@@Derik. You're right, but higher fishing power is still better. I'll edit my comment to explain the math :)
It needs a damage buff and I think it should have infinite piercing regardless, since, y'know, you're throwing an ANCHOR. That thing should be able to pulverize whatever's unfortunate enough to be in its path
While on it its should pull enemies on its way back
All nearby enemies should get the confusion and/or fear debuffs from the sheer sight of some guy tossing an anchor around like it's nothing
It looks nicely on a weapon rack, good decoration for a beach house at least
anchor isnt an obscure weapon, it one of those meme weapons like pre 1.4 wand of sparkling and such
pre 1.4 wand is still useful as a very early game weapon, its damage may be low but you can still reliably hit a zombie in front of you from a safe distance
Anchor is a hardmode weapon that's outclasses by so many things
Here is the thing: Wand of Sparking not only got a buff but also an upgrade...
@@decas5505 I said pre 1.4 lol
I think a potential buff and interesting mechanic could be that it works like a mace (and of course a damage buff) but when it hits enemies it drags them to you rather then knocking them away, kinda likr a grapple for enemies.
>nautilus
My experience with Anchor:
Picks up from crate
"Interesting, but meh"
Sells
Picks up 20 more from crates
know what could use a glance at?
ammy types and how they're made
some of them are...basically stuck in 1.0
**cough-cough** unholy arrows **cough-cough**
It should be sold by the Pirate
When the hardmode fishing weapon (anchor) has lower rarity (orange) than the pre hardmode fishing weapon (falcon blade; light red)
This is another weapon that I would like to see an upgrade path for. Imagine if it had a post-Plantera Dungeon upgrade called the "Spiritual Anchor" which would require an Anchor, some Spectre Bars, and a Wisp-in-a-Bottle. It could function the same as the current anchor, but with higher stats and a buff. The buff would be "Anchored" which you would have as long as you have it as your active weapon. It would make you immune to Knockback and Chaos State.
I think it would be better as a mobility tool that pulls you to the enemy, similar to kratos’s blades of chaos when he does it.
Thia needs a revamp super badly ngl
My dumbass read this as "terraria needs a revamp super badly ngl"
It should have piercing
On my first playtrough I was fishing for the crystal serpent and got this, i thought it was actually good and used it for a bit until I was redy for the mechs. Looking back at it now, I regret my decision.
Please cover the Storm Spear next! Really underrated weapon
If it got buffed to have the same near instant cast speed of the harpoon then it could at least be a high risk high reward single target weapon, as I used the harpoon for in preHM
Got this thing by accident while fishing during a melee playthrough, loved it as a secondary weapon for taking things out from a distance, never touched it again. 10/10 weapon
I feel like a revamped anchor could be a sort of baby piranha gun, chucking the anchor into your target and it just stays there doing tick damage, sorta like how actual Anchors are to remain buried in the seafloor
“Of course im talking about” is probably the most iconic line sockrteez uses
it really feels like this should be a pirate invasion/flying dutchman drop.. though I can't say I'd be all that excited getting it there lol
Hear me out. Give it a spin and pierce ability like other flails. Buff the damage slightly. And give it a debuff that limits enemy movement (anchored).
If it was anything like a normal flail, the damage buff wouldn't even be necessary. I like the debuff idea as well; even if it can't match a drippler crippler in terms of damage, it'd be like Dao of Pow lite and still be a handy sidearm for just that status effect alone.
How do you always do the very high attack speed or multille different anchors at the end?
I'm constantly amazed at your huge farm area!
cool vid! hahahahaha 'gee uh teen' classic! 2:40
I've seen mods featuring Library of Ruina(LoR for short) stuff. It's only a matter of time before a mod turns the Anchor into a material for a weapon named "Blind Obsession" as a reference to Limbus Company(same setting as LoR).
I’ve been waiting for a video on the anchor for a while 🤩
what kinda mod did you use to make the anchor do that 4:08
I do remember once in an expert mode run I spent too much time screwing around with other stuff and skeletron prime naturally spawned and all I had was the anchor cuz it was the only hardmode weapon I really had at the time and I did manage to beat him with it
I wanna do a flails only playthrough and you inspired it with the drippler crippler
I did beat the destroyer on my first playthrough using the anchor. I didn't know the shadowflame knife existed until I got it from a rogue Goblin Invasion.
I remember using this weapon on my first playthrough, I had a surprising amount of use from it. I even used it to kill the Twins.
the Anchor is actually a decent weapon for layer farms, due to it's highish damage and the sliding back on several mobs. If i were to get this early by chance, i actually WOULD use it for a while in early hardmode, as a great weapon to farm for others in high spawnrate scenarios, like sweeping weaper mobs during the hardmode goblin army, to focus more on the summoners, or maybe for some nice sweep damage on the pirates.
to keep the streak of useless weapons going you should review the beekeeper
i think the last time i saw this channel i subbed and i have been subbed since when you had like 46.6k subs now lol
give the initial throw piercing like a flail, and I think it'd be just fine, less single target, but a solidified niche against groups and destroyer, still worse than the crippler, but easier to obtain, since blood-moon fishing in early HM can be dangerous, and blood eels aren't the easiest of targets, though changing the crippler to drop for Dreadnautilas would also be a fair change
as someone who likes fishing, i forgot that weapon exist because when i get it i aways just throw away
You know, you’re the only TH-camr I have consistently watched every upload with notifications on. I’m just yet to get bored of these vids 🎉
I remember my reaction when I first discovered it
“Oh this is a cool weapon! … oh, this is a horrible weapon”
I feel like a lot of weapons are added not because they are good or even fit in the progression, but just because they’re funny. And I love that. I’d argue that the KO Glove is not a particularly good weapon as it’s not consistently achievable (requiring a full moon and hunting werewolf which are quite hard to kill at the start of hard mode) and the time needed to farm it could be more easily spent on a weapon with stronger stats. But I laughed so invredibly hard when I first got it, at just the sheer stupidity op bopping enemies on the nose with a boxing glove launcher. And this i feel like it the purpose of a lot of items in terraria, they add flavour to the game and give you something to discover. “Oh, that’s fun, I hadn’t seen that yet on a previous playthrough”, in that way keeping the game fresh and innovating.
3:10 Have you even HEARD of the pearlwood sword? XD at least you dont have to fish for that one
pearlwood got a huge buff so it's actually somewhat decent now
I got this 2 minutes after i defeated the wall of flesh, it was great for a little bit but its only use i found after a certain point was to hit enemies over walls
I like to imagine this thing spawning in water chests underground at the lowest level before hell.
Please check out the Celebration from the Party Girl, it's so bad but would be sorta good if you didn't get it post-golem
hello mr sock :D you should totally review crit mage. max 100% crit rate and build the emblems. its really insane post golem and even does very well before it since the gear you get can be mainly obtained after mech bosses
I would recommend looking for items like dark artist leggings and accessories like putrid scent and eye of the golem + lucky reforge to get max crit. after 100%, you just go all damage
Well, there’s at least a couple things it could be good for:
If I wanna cosplay as murasa minamitsu or blind obsession Ishmael that is
This carried me through the start if hardmode in my first play through
Can we get a Sockrteez flails only play through please? Every one I see use flails only passes the drippler crippler
Chain guillotine is corruption exclusive and biome mimics are really hard to get if you don't already have hardmode weapons
Eh, mimic chests are a pretty easy fight if you use the souls to make keys and fight them in an arena even with basic weapons, most of their issue is obstacles and other enemies, with a decent movement kit, basically any late prehardmode or hard mode weapon and enough time you can figure out their attacks and how to dodge them pretty easily
There is an idea, made it so it deals a LOT of damage but when it falls on an enemy from above and when comes from foward it pushes the enemy away, but the movement is slower and you fall faster and have trouble swimming qhen equiped
I think two things would make this weapon viable, the first one is a damage buff, which is obvious. But the second one is way better return speed; which would effectively make it much faster overall. I would also like some more broken features for it, like maybe ignoring immunity frames more than other weapons on return or a small AOE upon hitting something, but even that might not be enough to make it worth your while
The anchor item would be better if you could craft it into a placeable decorational anchor for building
i started terraria in november, am in early hardmode and was using the anchor bc it seemed the best melee weapon at this point just going off stats, its faster, has more kb and base damage than adamantite or titanium sword, which seemed about the best you can get at that point (by early hardmode i mean pre mech boss)
i wouldnt be surprised if the drippler crippler gets a nerf next update alongside buffs with these more niche early hardmode weapons. it just outclasses them all so hard, and the bladetongue does as well
I always thought the anchor was an item used to decorate ocean themed houses. I guess you can learn something new everyday :p
Nah, next update is the "Over the sea update". You're gonna need this
The real use of the anchor is that it looks really good on a weapon rack in an ocean themed house.
I think a fun buff the anchor could have is increase its damage the farther it travels, or maybe make it spawn water bolt like projectiles on a successful hit
man, maces really need a way to just instantly retract it. Maybe right click could just instantly bring it back (not dragging it back, just teleporting it back to you)
the only thing I can remember about the Anchor was that they made it so it's damage scales when it falls, kinda like a real anchor
if they gave it an addition like waterbolts that come out of the anchor when attacking, it would make it a more viable pick
it would be cool if it could stun enemy's for like a second on hit since its supposed to be a heavy anchor
I’d like to see a challenge playthrough using only the weapons sockrteez hates
U just remembered me when i was first time playing Terraria in classic mode and i killid da Eye of Cuthulhu with a fkn Sword Fish with 200 hundred health in a plataform that was instahouses size💀
The golem fist is getting buffed in 1.4,5 so maybe the anchor will receive some love as well being 2 weapons with a similar functionality
It was pretty good on 3DS lol, it shot out multiple if you held the button, and acted like the Flairon’s movement. I believe it also pierced
I feel like it would make more sense if it dripped from the flying Dutchman
I believe the chance for the anchor out of a crate is per item that you get, making it actually quite common rather than rare. Could be wrong though lol
either they nerf it a bit and make it available in prehardmode or they buff it to idk allow it to throw multiple anchors
I really wanted to like it because it would be cool throwing that around
With all the changes to flails, making them feel more weighty and powerful, I was really hoping the Anchor would get a similar treatment. I was hoping for something absolutely huge, slow, heavy, and with CRUSHING force and knockback behind it. But it honestly feels kind of pathetic, especially because of how big it is and how little of an impact it has.
2:38 that cracked me up 😂
C'mon at least let the anchor have a alternate attack thing like summoning waves, or I DUNNO LET YOU DROP LIKE AN ANCHOR?!
The anchor should well...perform like an anchor and embed itself into whatever it is being thrown at and do constant damage over time. And triple the damage maybe, that would be a start at least.
make sure to
HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE BABY YEAAAAAAAAH!!!! WE ABSOLUTELY DEMOLISHED 100k AND NOW WE'RE SETTING ARE SIGHTS ON 200k LETS GOOOOOO!!
needs a rework
perhaps it could get a bonus on crit? to lean into the fact that itd be heavy.
Someone do a challenge where they can only use this as a weapon
To be honest, I’ve never gotten the drippler crippler in any of my play throughs. I just never found myself needing it.
Well ill have you know the anchor carride me to all of hardmode
Of all the weapons to put on display in my base, I chose this one first. The fact that it's better at being a decoration than being a weapon says enough.
I honestly think you should spin it around it, in if you thrown it and then lands, it should make a impact on the ground
The Drippler Crippler and its HM blood moon fishing friends aren't on the same level of early hardmode as things like the Anchor, the blood moon enemies are very tough and you need to already have at least some hardmode gear to fight them effectively. Dao of Pow is similar, it's easier to get than the Crippler even if it got powercrept by it.,
I was playing "hardmode at the start of the world" Kind of challenge and Anchor carried me HARD in early game
It shreds through pre-hardmode enemies and can deal with hardmode ones semi-reliably and having a decent range for melee weapon
Later I replaced it with Shadowflame Hex Doll
I know this is extremely niche scenario and lets be honest 90% of terraria players wont even try stupid challenge like this but still anchor have at least one good usage and I feel good for finding that out
I've been playing the game for years and even I wouldn't consider bloodmoon fishing in early hardmode a feasible thing pre-boss.
Basically a bad Clam Crusher from calamity
I think it'd be cool if they made it deal a ton more damage but fire really slowly, like an actual anchor would
Back in the day on mobile, you used to be able to spam it, throwing as many as you want however fast you want.
this weapon would actually be pretty neat. if they more than trippled the base dmg and doubled down on the slow but heavy gimmik
I don't know what you mean, it makes a great addition to my wall when you put it on a weapon mount. Great cosmetic
How could you say that this is the most pointless weapon in the game when we have an entire class of pointless weapons, Yo-Yos!
The anchor clealy has at least two distinct points!
I found this weapon actually useful on skyblock since you fish a lot anyway
calling the drippler crippler easier to get than the anchor is wild.
I usually have to cheat in a bloody tear if im playing melee / summoner because I just never have blood moons happen
As someone who doesn't mind fishing, it does have a use.
Just a little bit of extra money. After all, I'm so poor with my mere 200 platinum coins.
It'd argue the pearlwood bow is the most pointless weapon. It doesn't even has value as a meme since that is reserved by the pearlwood sword.
Damn i forgor this existed
I still use it. I don't know why but the anchor in mobile can bypass solid blocks Infront of you if you directly at it so you can hit enemies outside the block. It's good in my book, although not completely great.
It would be actually pretty decent if it dropped from regular wooden crates instead of hardmode crates.
I will always have a place for the anchor. It was my first 100 damage weapon in expert mode
As someone with a love for all things nautical, I am deeply saddened by the terribleness of this weapon as I would love to be able to main it in a serious playthrough
