The family should get to destroy the art in front of the killer. That would probably piss him off. Cuz I know as an artist, you feel attached to your art, as if it were a part of you, a part of the family. Give the victims a chance to kill a part of the killer. Could be therapeutic for both parties.

@@edthatsit8035 I knew someone would try this illogical argument. You can live in a society and take part in it without agreeing with it. It's okay to have different ideas. Also, the system makes it next to impossible to not purchase products or use the services attached to them. You don't have to leave society to want things to be better. That doesn't even make sense. How do you leave something you are trapped in? Do you realize how difficult it is to go off the grid these days? Those who can leave still participate in some ways despite wanting not to.

Ok, where do I even start? I like to collect stuff too. I have Freddy Krueger's autograph in my game room, for example. But I draw the line at say, Charles Manson's autograph. Boundaries are healthy. As for why this happens, the answer is quite simple, capitalism. If the demand is high and the supply is limited this is what you get. Finally, I want to address something said in the video. It's wrong to make money off of these violent psychopaths crimes. Fair enough, I agree. *looks up* Is that a join button I see up there? On a channel called Serial Killer Documentaries?! Your honor, the defense rests it's case.

Well said! There is a whole industry making money off of other’s misery - it is a sad fact of life.
It is a grey area, however I think there is a line. If you commit an act like murder, get convicted, then earn money from writing about it, or profit from your notoriety in other ways, then that is a step too far. Imagine being the victim’s family and seeing the killer profit essentially from the fact he killed your relative. The money can go to helping victim’s familiar or go to a victim’s charity.
Yet again, look at how popular books are about the mafia - Sammy Gravano killed people (made a deal and served a stupidly short time) and then co-wrote a book. Henry Hill earned a lot from Pileggi’s book on his life, and the later film Goodfellas. Both of them profited from their crimes.

If "good" is one end of a spectrum and "bad" on the extreme other, then "normal" these days is much more on the side that makes murderers feel comfortably justified.
The wolf grows fat among sheep in love with their own wolf's clothes.
We all leave tracks in the snow, our attention-span predicts the weather of our legacy, and the artists are always there to take collective temperature.
For how many seconds will it nag at your conscience that we'll be remembered by history as a culture who couldn't pay attention long enough to create more than an instant-gratification burden on our progression as a species?

Sorry, late on parade. Fascinating subject though. Others can earn small fortunes writing or depicting these people, but supposedly, they cannot profit themselves. If others wish to pay for these items, then, yes, I think the profits should go to the families of the victims, or if they decline , help pay for the cost of keeping these people in prison for however long. I do not believe that possession of such items would be enough to cause someone to commit a crime. You either are, or you aren’t, a serial killer, and I don’t believe that a crappy painting of a clown would be the tipping point.

    • @chickpstranded6714
      @chickpstranded6714 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, there’s a lot of exploitation everywhere and people make money in all sorts immoral ways without ever been consider criminals or spent half a day in prison but this doesn’t mean that I am. Ok with murderers making a profit out of their crimes by idealising them through art. I can certainly understand the victim’s families and friends being thoroughly annoyed by the publicity given to such “artworks”. I watch a lot of true crime programs but that’s not because I want to understand the criminal mind, that is bollocks. I watch them because it’s a safe way of exploring human darkness and the negative feelings that we all have but deal with in every possible manner THAT EXCLUDE murder. So I really think that the convicted serial killers who I find their muses within the prison walls should keep them in their cells, without hurting the victims families all over again.

Some of that art by the killers, (not the outsiders) are pretty good. With Ramirez, yeah, hands are hard to draw. And feet. The human body is just weird to draw.

In Bangkok, Thailand, there is a very macabre but interesting museum in Siriraj hospital complex.
It is mostly a pathology museum with a small forensic science unit - so you get dissected body parts in there, a fully sliced corpse that you can pick up each section and look at it, skulls from victims etc.
At the back they have a section on crime where there was a fully mummified body of a famous Thai (alleged) serial killer.
Though the corpse was taken away this year and cremated:

Not really, well, not all of them. I am not a collector, I received some gifts from my subscribers in the past (some Ed Kemper tapes, some signed envelopes, a T-shirt). Doesn't mean anything to me, they are items in my SK box, next to my 100k award from TH-cam.

Or they just collect to preserve history. That's what museums are. Also if you ignore, forget or try to cover up the past, it will sadly be repeated.
