First time I went into a tea cafe in Seattle I didn't know what to get so I asked for a recommendation and the person there that day suggested a puerh and so I had it and it was fantastic. Then I went back another time to the same place and asked for a puerh and what I got was like dirty water, it was bad. I bought two cooked aged puer tea types long while ago and they were in storage for about 3-4 years. I also had some raw puerh in storage, I only recently got it out to try it this winter and all of it was just awful. I'm not sure what to think. Am I just striking out with it or is good puerh really so exceptional and hard to find. I'm reluctant to buy anymore of it.
Every batch will be different and you got a good one the first time you went there. Storage is crucial. Aged puerh should get better with time but you have to protect it. Longer brew time might have brought out more flavor, or water temp might have been off. Even the pot in which you brew makes a huge difference, and the water matters too. Every infusion is different. Go online and find a a tea seller with reviews. Read the reviews for several types and find one that sounds good. Look for words like earthy, dark, and chocolaty. We have videos on storage and preparation, and you can find lots of online tutorials. Good luck! It's worth the trouble to get good puerh.
If you stored your puerh in a non temperature controlled storage unit. Where the temperature and moisture fluctuate greatly throughout the seasons. Then your puerh is probably moldy and went bad. TH-cam how to properly store and drink your puerh
