    Who does it? Kate the genius does it. The Man With The Child In His Eyes was mostly written when she was 13 years old and finished off when she was 15. It was one of three songs (Saxophone Song being another) that David Gilmour paid for her to have professionally recorded and produced in 1975 to serve as a demo tape when she was 16. After hearing the tape EMI signed her up when she was still 16 and gave her time to develop her skills. It was those demo recordings that appeared on the album. So people watching the music video for ‘The Man…’ are seeing an 18/19 year old Kate but hearing a 16 year old.

      Wow! She was already going IN at that age! That’s crazy she took those older songs, and didn’t try re-recording. It sounded great. I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

      @@BryPazReacts When the record company gave her an advance after signing her at 16, she ran straight out and enrolled in dance and mime classes. She studied with Lindsay Kemp who taught mime to David Bowie. She uses it a lot in her videos and live performances. Her first concert tour was like going to the circus or a Broadway show. Great reaction once again, it charted at number 6 in the UK and number 3 in Ireland. The song received the Ivor Novello award for "Outstanding British Lyric" in 1979 - the ivor novello awards are awards for songwriting and composing, presented annually since 1956. In 2002 Kate received another Ivor Novello award for "Outstanding Contribution to British Music", then in 2020 Kate was made a fellow of the Ivors Academy itself joining a very select list (only 20 have ever been awarded with a fellowship to date) who have been recognised for their excellence in music creation.
    So you noticed the unexpected key change then 😀 that and changes in timing is something that Kate does, Kate composes music in a way that doesn't conform to standard conventions, her aim is to write something that sounds good, she's a completely natural talent.
    As "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" was Kate's second widespread single release, it makes sense to react to Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" next, I would certainly be interested to see what you will make of it. NOTE: There were other single releases from Kate's excellent debut album "Thr Kick Inside" but they were limited to certain territories only, so "Moving" and "Them Heavy People" released in Japan only and "Strange Phenomena" in Brazil only.

    Wow. Yes, you said Wow a lot, so does Kate. Wow is another of her songs that you have to do, from 1979. This was her 2nd hit, coming after Wuthering Heights. Bry, I was 15 when she burst on the scene, yes, all those feelings you had about her face... and that body... I was 15, I didn't stand a chance, fell completely in love and lust... Bry, I'm as gay as they come but I understand completely why every straight man's tongue falls out watching Kate Bush... More seriously, I was 15 and confused (and this was in working-class small-town Scotland in the 1970s... believe me, Kate Bush saved my life and got me through the hardest times, I had a 'portable' cassette player the size of a small suitcase, I would invest in a fistful of batteries and take myself off into the countryside with just Kate's first two albums, one each side of a C90 cassette... oh those songs...)
    And she was only that age, same age I was then, 15, when she recorded this song, she was only 15! How on earth she had the maturity in her to voice that complete and utter beauty of a song I'll never know.

    • @BryPazReacts
      @BryPazReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow indeed! It’s beautiful music! Wow, i bet that cassette player was heavy too. All those old electronics were large and heavy. Ah… the countryside… how lovely.

    There's so much good Kate stuff. I would suggest you check out the classic Wuthering Heights video (very interesting song writting) and The Sensual World. Also Rockets tail might blow you away.
    Also maybe the whole Side 2 of the Hounds of Love album, called The Ninth Wave.
    Im a huge Kate Bush fan. Im 53. She's my everything. This video is my favorite. So simple, and she looks so lovely. AND the subtle sensuality of her moves in the chorus. I always cry when i listen to this song. It overwhelms me.

    Hi, nice reaction Bry. Who does that? Kate Bush it seems.
    Anyway, I try to play classical guitar - but I'm very, very poor at it even after 30 years of trying.
    It seems I'm more numerical than musical and who has numerical people covered? Kate Bush of course. She wrote a song where she sings the first 100+ digits of the number Pi (3.159...). Quote taken from the katebushencyclopedia "I really like the challenge of singing numbers, as opposed to words because numbers are so unemotional as a lyric to sing and it was really fascinating singing that. Trying to sort of, put an emotional element into singing about...a seven...you know and you really care about that nine. "
    Well I really like Pi from her 2005 album Aerial perhaps sometime you could try reacting to that one.
    In a couple of days it's Kate Bush's birthday (30th July) so line yourself up with another KB track to react to. Perhaps do "Saxophone Song", it was made in the same session along with "Man With The Child in His Eyes" when she was 16.

    I am not a musician, at the beginning you mentioned, she had a key change already.
    That’s what many artists say about her, all the key changes, what does that mean?
    Is a key change something that a non musician would hear?
    St Vincent said that her songs have these key changes, like it was a big deal, never understood it.

    • @BryPazReacts
      @BryPazReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A key change in music is like....
      Imagine Bob Ross using an easel to paint a picture. His easel has specific colors, Blue, Green, Gray, Brown... nice, gentle colors... He's painting a nice scene of nature
      Suddenly, he pulls out a bucket of NEON MAGENTA, and paints an Elephant.
      Strange addition, Not the typical colors you see on that sort of animal, but it's still a nice painting.
      That's key change with music, especially when it comes out of nowhere
      Non-musicians can hear it, generally in pop songs, when the song goes higher like "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi.
      Or when Whitney Houston sings "I will Always Love You"
      But it's more noticeable.
      These Kate Bush key changes pop up out of nowhere and sneak up on you!

    "That smile, like she knows something"! Yep, Bry Paz, I think you might be right! You haven't discussed the meaning of the song. Kate wrote the song at the tender age of 13. Most people assume that it is about some real or imaginary man that Kate had a relationship with. This would be a literal interpretation. I have a more metaphorical interpretation in mind. There is no real or imaginary man. The "man" is Kate's own masculinity, already dissociated, so that Kate thinks of it as being someone else, a "man" who is always there at night when Kate closes her eyes to go to sleep. The video clip is a very soft focus celebration of a young woman's body, so a celebration of femininity, in a way (though perhaps not one that feminists would appreciate). The video was made after Kate disappeared for a couple of years, after first signing up to EMI and before releasing any video footage. Do you see where I'm going with this, Bry Paz? For whatever reason, Kate has always been an LGBTQ+ icon, and an outspoken advocate for trans people, once commenting in an online argument with JK Rowling that some men can menstruate, so menstruation cannot be used to define a true "woman"! Anyway, you might like to (or not like to!) consider how much of Kate's beauty that you commented on could be due to, or at least enhanced, by soft focus, hairstyle, makeup and general body proportions.

      Look, enough. I can't not comment on this, though I would prefer not to. I'll limit myself to saying Kate Bush did not make those comments in any 'online argument' with JK Rowling, and anyone suggesting she did is only showing their ignorance of both great women. I'm sure they are good friends. Kate Bush does NOT engage in online arguments with anyone, it's part of her mystique. Sadly, she's not the kind who would break her silence to defend herself against groundless accusations.
