Hi, my name is Kate and I'm a native Shetlander. I am totally new to bonsai and I've become very 'addicted'. I got several 'baby' sycamores today as someone was giving them away. I will be replanting them into bigger pots hopefully this Monday coming. This video has given me the courage to believe I can bonsai a sycamore tree!! I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to learning all the exciting stuff there is to learn. Many thanks. Take care. Kate
Thats nice you got some free practice material! Really great to hear I inspired someone. Sycamore is not going to be a easy bonsai in lot of aspects (mainly leaf size & and decent ramification) but as a tree/plant there tough and vigorous so have so redeeming qualities. Il be sure to keep updates of my Dads old sycamore coming. Thanks for the sub appreciated
That leaf reduction on the sycamores is quite impressive. You’ve got some very nice free saplings to play with. Very interesting assortment. I especially like those Japanese maple from seed. Thanks, keep growing
Thanks Matt very please with how the sycamores coming along against mosts opinion of the species! The seedling acers have thrived will have to make plans for them soon!
@@nillysbonsai9636 I have a very pretty sycamore in training, collected tree which I began as a stump. Year 3 from collection and great branching coming along.
That’s me being cheap haha no I like to upcyle from local garden Centres and while the trees are training I feel cut down pots are great although a little flexi you can tie down easy too!
Lovely to hear d history of your main Sycamore, labour of love. Funny cos I went over to Guy’s channel last evening n was blown away by his sycamore forest! I’ve got a few(hundred!) seedlings around so guess what?!! Today Nigel was at Connor’s🤩 he’s made an amazing forest(and fab slab) of spruce n larch, so now I’ve gotta get some larch!! God bless you Sam, I’ll have a good think about your sycamore 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️
Thank you Gaye, maybe send me a link to that other channel with the sycamore keen to see what he’s upto! I love this tree I hope to get something credible in a few years from now the bulk of the works done just taming the leaves and ramification as the branches bulk very quick! Ahh least you’ve found a home for that unwirable spruce. Should make a really nice combo the colours and needle texture also half and half in winter! Pretty cool 🌱😊
Hi Sam. Guy Watson, Bognor Regis Bonsai, enjoy! I must say I like the idea of choppin to the semi dormant bud you pointed out, would be a good height. Talking of leaf reduction Have you checked out Boston Bonsai Idiot? I know you’ll appreciate him, I absolutely love him🤩! Multi-talented and I can’t think of anyone further from an idiot on God’s Good Earth!!! 😇
How lucky are you to have a tree with a known history. Maybe you could reduce the height gradually, the right branch is a nice shape for the new leader in Spring. Nice job.
Thank you. More so now than ever this tree has gain more importance with the passing of my dad this year! Since this video the height has grown on me. Iv developed some structure up top. Looking forward to sharing next season. Thank you for your kind comment 🌱
I think the height is ok on that first sycamore, it just needs more twigging. I'd snip all the too-big leaves off as there's still time this year for new shoots.
Just an “ok” on the height :p you no when somthing doesn’t look quite right immediately you no somethings not I think it’s a little tall but if the trunk thicken more maybe it will look more in scale! Certainly continually clipping back all shoots now branches are to length required. All this grow is this years so may need knocking back to creat better ramification. Thanks for your feed back much appreciated!
Thank you I had missed your comment! Just Google it…Iv been trying to find this one out a while now I reckon your bob on! I look after a garden where’s there’s an abundance of there I think it’s quite a usable species nice leaves, bark!

I like the way your trees are in these nice half pots. Trees looking good and the seedling maples growing nice.
