It may have been explained before, but during the R40 tour they went back in time through the show, starting with songs from Clockwork Angels and finishing the song with Working Man. So of course the stage starts out with props appropriate for Clockwork Angels, and as the songs get older, stage hands change the props until the stage is the minimal setup they started with oh so many years ago.
10:12 I took my daughter to the R40 show and we had a blast. LOTS of kids, parents and grandparents were there to cheer on their favourite band with us. One of my best memories as a dad.
Hey Red!!! ♥️ Mark here. Please never ever apologize for going back to listen to a Rush tune. It's a sign of respect! Whenever you do that true fans smile and go back even further! Live Rush is magic. There are others out there giving reactions to their music. Sadly they don't have the passion for this band like you do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
A lot of them are pretending to be into RUSH for easy likes and subs. This girl ain't fakin', and if anyone doubts that, check out her reaction to the Army band cover of Time Stand Still. Whimsy Meadows is another sincere all-in new RUSH fan. Both of these ladies are absolutely delightful to watch as they discover new RUSH performances!
My guilty pleasure Rush moment is from the Snakes and Arrows tour during the song Entre Nous. Look at the smile Geddy gives Alex at the 3:02 mark of the song. Priceless. They have such a great bond. Keep up your awesome reactions. They are my favs!
There is an incredibly beautiful song off the Signals album. It is called "Losing It". Of course, there is the studio version, but if you dig around, you can find one of the only performances of it live. The reason for this song nearly never performed is the addition of a violin in the song. The man who performed the violin part on the studio album does perform it live with the band. It will pierce your heart and soul. I strongly suggest that you do a double set with the studio version followed by the live version. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Geddy's voice all over again. Also, the last song on the album "Count Down" is too fantastic and once again melds live clips (from a space shuttle launch) with the music of the band. Just go listen to the entire Signals album front to back, loud and not interrupted.
it hit me with this song of theirs.... how in the world with their instrumental songs, like this one, like Xanadu, do they remember their transitions! Its one thing with lyrics, at least with lyrics you have a forthcoming lyric to know when to transition, but their instrumentals! .... absolute musical polymaths!
Not being picky or persnickety but Xanadu has lyrics. The very long, varied and complicated intro is definitely much-enjoyed by all fans, old & new. It's a mini-instrumental thing before the lyrics start, which is a hallmark of theirs, kinda, I guess. Record Co wants Lyrics right away? The Monkeys said?... We & fans don't prefer that, Eff the record company! The no lyrics sung thing is doable. Counting the beats of each note, chord, & drum strike and relying on each other's timing, too. Besides, Neil is the freaking DRUM MACHINE! I'd say Rush has about half a dozen blowout instrumentals, good stuff! Neil once said that drumming a 3hr concert like they did use to be like running a marathon while doing equations. A Musical Scientist for ya! That scientist reference can be seen in one of the pair of the shorts called 'the real story of rush' (don't be rash) Parts 1 & 2 Haha! Check 'em out, the stooges at their best there! Takes a few viewings to pick up on all the 'inside jokes' going on in the shorts with references to lots of old rush stuff, yes. Like, Ray Daniels, if that's your real name. It's sausage time! Enjoy the shorts!
You look nice in green. 😁 Yup, still just 3 dudes. Ha Ha, you crack me up in the best way. You are really feeling the RUSH vibes as a more seasoned fan. 👍
Rush always swings for the fences whenever they play in front of their fans…giving 100% of themselves in every note they play using their gifts and talents…Rush is one of one…legendary! Thanks for sharing your feedback/comments…👍
My wife works at Nationwide Downtown Columbus, OH and when Rush came there on the R40 tour in June of 2015 she was able to get us access to a VIP Suite so we took our 10 year old daughter and she loved it. Her favorite Rush songs at the time were Tom Sawyer and The Trees.
This is better than the studio version. Incredibly tight, well-mixed, and performed with clarity and purpose. I'm especially impressed with the bass sound.
I’m sorry, I’m commenting before the video is over. The way you are talking at the end really reminds me of how we would talk after one of their shows! You sound like you just saw the concert! But much mellower. Pretty sure you would be jumping around and grabbing people as you were letting it out. The huge buzz always flowed out into the parking lot night. Sometimes we didn’t care where we were parked! The buzz took over. We usually had to go sit on the riverwalk or a bar for a while. 😆👍 Stories for days……
I can't say this is my favorite instrumental of theirs (though I enjoy it very much), but it is one of the most challenging and innovative drumming compositions of Neil's. Just very creative and he was always searching as a player. I still can't play bits of it, as there's just something tricky about the song. He remarked that he spent a full 3 days learning the song and piecing together his part to make it what it is. And it shows. Never one to rest on his laurels. A good mantra for life.
I am a huge Rush fan But... I never got into there stuff after 1983. This is great. Thank you for posting this. It has allowed me to re-discover them and how truly special their music is, In any time.
Since you like this, I'd also recommend Malignant Narcissism, from the same album (Snakes and Arrows). It's another instrumental with that early Rush energy.
So glad you did this one. The guy jumping up and down with the top hat on during this video is my good friend Jim. I was about 4 seats away from him for this show. I remember being in Toronto like it was yesterday. I can’t believe it’s been over 9 years. 🤘🎶💜
That bright ringing note where he just touches the string rather than pressing it to the fingerboard, or fretting, picks it and lets it go is called a harmonic. A simple but lovely jewel of a guitar trick. 😊
In the Mood from the RUSH album is maybe what you mean by a guilty pleasure. While youre on that album check out my favorite song from the same album " HERE AGAIN"
What a great tune. I think that might be my new favourite. 🔥 Guilty pleasure songs, probably more than I'd care to admit. lol One would be Break my Stride by Matthew Wilder and another is Bang Bang by BA Robertson. To be fair they are both songs I liked as a kid at the time they were released.
Hi, I love the passion you have for Rush I have been a fan since 1976 when my brother brought home the new 2112 album. Check out a video of him playing drums on a track for Vertical Horizon called Instamatic. A hidden treasure! Oh yeah, My first Rush concert was in 1982 at the Duluth Civic Center. I paid $11 for a ticket!
This is one of my favorite live performances; I just love watching it and see everyone doing their thing with the instruments. I also love the jazzy vibe to this song, but yet it's still intense.
Yup Red, they were not your 'average hippie band'(sex, drugs, R&R), so I can think of only one old song of theirs that can be read between the lines for what they're singing about, a treat they obviously enjoyed. th-cam.com/video/Wy7cmGyKwek/w-d-xo.html Like, if you know about what they're singing about, you'll know what it's about. You kind of automatically know or you don't about the subject matter. Keep in mind that this song was on the same B side (2112?) with the song Twilight Zone. It's OK, to play these songs around the kiddies and even older farts than me 'cause they won't know what the REFERences in the song mean anyway. No harm done then. 🙂
My top "guilty pleasure" Rush song is Red Lenses. For some reason this song gets beaten down by a few too many people, but Red Lenses has such a great groove. The song may seem to be a throwaway on the Grace Under Pressure album, known for some really intense and dark songs like Red Sector A and Afterimage, but I think having a light-hearted, sorta silly song on that album is necessary to maintain perspective and balance. Please check it out and post your reaction soon.
Thanks. Another Rush instrumental Gem! You may notice people in red jumpsuits (a nod to the Moving Pictures cover) behind the band are moving things around. During the R40 tour, crew members were setting up the stage to resemble its appearance in past tours retrospectively. As the music played in reverse order based on time, the stage arrangement adapted in a similar manner. The final songs performed had them in a high school gym, just like how they started.th-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f606.png
