Cata is peak PvP in all expansions, in my opinion. Wotlk and TBC were good fun, but every class is interesting and fun to play in cata. Slept on expansion.

Feral is S-tier. None can survive 14K bleeds and 40K shreds. Instant clones and stun locks. And if bear form is activated, dodge chance is 50%.. and if you’re not dodging, you’re Critting all thr time which is a permanent savage defense physical barrier. Feral master race
As a DK main back then, I must say that DK strength really matters on what patch we are talking about. Frost is S tier while Hungering Cold is instant, after it becomes casted frost becomes an RBG spec. UH S tier while Necrotic Strike is good but after nerfs it becomes warrior support. By the end of the expac when Rogs & Mages get their leggos the class became almost unplayable. I remember we literally stacked resilience way over the cap and frost mages would still deepfreeze+frostbolt oneshot you if you had no CDs. Ill give one disclaimer, i might just have PTSD from Dragonsoul but that is also the patch it will be played on? Blood DK is a Tyrant only vs Physical DMG, you can't get vengeance from magical DMG as I recall, and mastery is also only physical dmg shield.. Still the most fun version(I didn't play MoP) of DK that I have played. Both Runes and Runic Power were amazing, compared to today. Pretty much the reason I don't play DK much these days. #DKRework
I was looking for a comment like this. I think the nerf to Hungering Cold was unfair, even though it was needed I think they should've looked at a different way of nerfing it imo. I do understand the nerf, it being 1 min cooldown while also being instant aoe cc is crazy while also doing dot damage. I think what should've happened if they wanted to nerf it was done it in 3 potential ways, making the cooldown longer at 2 minutes and leaving it instant or shorten the cast time from 1.5 seconds to 0.5 seconds while making the cast time 1.5 minutes and lastly, making it the same as it is was but castable while moving. Being locked in place while casting it and if you get interruptep it locks you out of all frost abilities for the duration of the interrupt really sucks for a melee based class.
@@IzNebula I like the CD idea, 2 mins would also alight with trinkets. Might be the best to make it un-interruptible, so people can still react to the cast but you can't get shutdown with a kick.
This is very accurate. Played dk to 2800 season 9 and after the nerfs war/ferals would regularly double my damage in some games. Mind you Necrotic strike is partially why
I'll be honest, I don't fully agree with this tier list. Shadow priests are okay, but like in retail they're just a target dummy without a dispersion that heals. Marksman and feral are S tier, ferals break roots when shapeshifting and marksman dominate the ladder with oneshots, good defensives and crazy cc. Moonkin is A/B tier because the consistent damage is not that impressive, even if you dot everything. I think arms and rets should be swapped aswell, rets are just "pop all cds and do insane dps" but when wings and guardian are gone you don't do alot of damage. Warriors dish out consistent high crits and have very good cc aswell. Other than that it's a decent list. Not hating btw, I love your vids, just saying what I think. Have a nice day :)
@@Keylandors frost and fire are very very good in cata, they have a fire blast stun, stunbreak with blink and very solid damage. Id say fire is better in 3s/battlegrounds and frost is better in 2s, and can also do well in 3s and bgs but a little bit worse than fire does. Hope this helps :)

I been playing Cata on private servers and I have to disagree with some picks. I know that you are picking classes based on 3v3 arena but overall MM hunter and ferals are S tier. Shadow priest I don't think it belong in S tier and boomkins either. Holy paladins are way stronger than disc. Disc is quite weak in Cata.
@@Prophacyxin 2s they are strong specially in the first season. In 3v3 they struggle a lot cause of CC. The problem is that the classes you will face the most have all tons of CC and mobility like fire mages, MM hunters, ferals, rogues
@@Prophacyxa good step down from earlier... in vanilla, tbc and wotlk arms is one of the strongest dps specs in pvp, in cata it's probably one of the weakest melee. rogues are better, ferals are better, dks are better, rets are better.
Hyped about Cata pvp! Really loved TBC and Wotlk arena but cata was the first one I really tried in back in the day. A lot of really fun abilities (smoke bomb, life grip, and my fav soul swap!) were added and it's gonna be a blast to see again!
I have two memories that stand out for me from Cata. 1) Raiding as Moonkin just absolutely obliterating the DPS meters on trash packs with mushrooms+starfall+hurricane 2) Playing marksman Hunter in PvP. This was one of my favorite versions of Hunter ever. Good burst, good mobility, great Cc. Using the monkey pet to have a blind Cc felt great.
Cata is where Prot Warrior really switches to it's support role with CC/Utility. They dispel Hots/buffs/shields constantly which is annoying. They also can shut down casters with 2 siliences, 1 ranged. Have insane mobility 2 stuns, spell reflect and Intervene is huge. Prot War can play with any set up comp that has burst since that is what they are lacking. A good Prot War can go far and has the tools to do so.
One of the patches Frost DK was one of the most blatantly OP specs the game has ever seen. It was a mid expansion patch, can't remember which one, but it was completely unkillable and pumped out insane damage with Frost Strike.
This guy doesnt really know what hes talking about with ele, casting lb while walking was soo strong, we also get the insane burst with earth shock and lava burst, also ancestral walk and ascension making you a fucking lava burst machine gun while moving was insane…
I feel hpal should be in s tier and feral druid too. Cata was my most played exp by far 2400 in 3's as hpal, which by todays standards is whatever but man I'm so pumped for cata.
Yeah ive always been around 2400/2500 wotlk-mop as frost mage and i remember feral was a fucking nightmare. i would just sit outside in Durotar and only duel ferals to get better at fighting them lol.
Was rolling ret/enhance/disc on Beta a good bit. I think Enhance is probably the biggest sleeper spec in Cata especially seeing all these Tier ranking videos people are putting out. Consistently seeing them in B-C tier. I think Enhance has a chance to be A tier when played properly. I think the only class I lost duels to on beta was really good mages and rogues as well. We are way harder to kite with the amount of outs we have (Sham Rage cleanse, Earthbind out of roots, Frostbrand/Shock root, Ghostwolf, etc.) Hopefully I'm right!
Prot pally needs some love on this. i had some 20 minute arenas where it would come down to me and a blood Dk and we just couldnt kill eachother. The damage isnt as regular a Retribution but ill take the survivability with some burst anyday. 2-3 people to bring me down.
To those whom did not play cata : tanks when they get hit they build up stacks of vengeance to increase their damage. This makes tanks so strong in pvp. Not sure if they implement 4.3 where this was nerfed. Also numbers of buttons are at all time high especially for boombkin. So many buttons I had to do 8 full rows. Finally the dominating combo at 4.3 is lock shaman rogue. Especially when rogue had legendary daggers.

I've played A LOT of cata pservs, and there's some changes i'd recommend: frost mage was def S tier, RMP was busted, and bring fire down to A, it wasn't as good as frost. Boomy, and i main druid, was prob A tier, not S. there were limted comps you could play with it, most notibly spicy chicken cleave (boomy/fire mage/rsham or disc) Bring disc to S tier, cuz... uh RMP. Hpal was Either S or A. KFC, jungle, TSG were all played with Hpal and all really good comps. Blood bring down to A or even B. At the high end, people could deal with blood dks. They were really susceptible to CC and magic damage dealers, but very tanky into phys. Ret is probably A, but definitely a competitor for S, so maybe low S tier for ret. That's about it.
@@devwadehra9896I played shadow as my secondary on retail, shadow in cata is a really cool class design but it's not easy and particularly struggles in 2v2 since it doesn't do well under pressure, but in 3s with a healer or in 2s when paired with a high-control class like sub or frost mage, it can contribute to some crazy CC chains and has awesome utility, and the burst damage is nothing to sneeze at when it's set up properly.

Warrior was awful in cata after the nerfs in s9. It relied entirely on one shots which were completely RNG based. Later in the expansion it relied entirely on having Gurthalak and the dragon soul trinket to deal competitive damage, but was totally overshadowed by most other specs even then. It was one of the worst classes in the game in cata pvp, if not the worst.
I miss recoup, don’t miss redirect clunky unnecessary mechanic on an already keybind heavy class for arena. I do miss combat readiness. Also miss old shadow dance and the stealth abilities hitting hard rather than Eviscerate spam. I also miss hemorrhage. Cata and mop sub rogue the best expansions for rogue no contest. There was so much more room for outplays and recovery or being able to flip a duel rather than whoever gets opened on first loses. Tbh was a lot more room for outplay for most classes but rogue really was something to behold. You couldn’t pay me to watch a “duel” video now days
Ret will be shit in cata classic until the catch-up to DS content, for a very simple reason. Most likely 4.3.4 talents and class mechanics will be implemented as soon as cata classic starts, which means a 10sec CD on Wog for rets (vs no cd during the actual 4.0.6 patch). The absence of Cd on Wog in 4.0.6 was to compensate the fact that the only way to get holy power is crusader strike and procs (meaning you wont generate any holy power when facing any mage type caster or any agility based class). 4.3.4 had the two tier set giving holy power through judgement which wont be the case when cata classic is released. So basically on release of cata classic rets will have a long ass cd on wog and no actual way to generate holy power to do damage or heal, making it way weaker than in the real 4.0.6

No they will most likely release the same way they did with Wotlk, so end of content talents and mechanics, only the gear will be from 4.0 but everything else will be from 4.3.4
As someone who have played cata for years on private servers this is not very accurate, largely depends on phase and pve items much like in wrath but id say this is inaccurate, in the patch we are getting cata on 4.3 warrior is b tier at best both in 3s and 2s.. boomy, shadow and fire are good and fun but are far from S tier u can argue feral and mm cud take their places..

Ferals are S, mm is S, frost mage is S, hpal is S, rsham is HIGH A (legit highest A tier spec), aff lock is high A, sub rogue is high S and the leggo daggers make them highest S, fire mage is A. Just my 2 cents.
@devwadehra9896 coming from maining a spriest in wotlk, i think they took a step back as far as pvping goes. I was not a fan of the shadow orb mechanic that was introduced to them. I could be wrong, but i believe they took on a more burst centered role in cata with the introduction of mind spike. Spriests dont pick up again until MoP imo. With that being said, i put spriest in the b tier range. Keep in mind, i like specs that exceed in 1v1, dueling, and world pvp situations.

In my opinion, spriest in mop gets better just like a lot of off meta specs for a multitude of reasons. They Finally get another def CD which is spectral guise. This move allows them to go invisible for a short amount of time. as you can imagine, this gives them both engaging ability along with some more self peel. Also, (could be wrong about this) i think their dmg profile gets tweaked again with more focus being on shadowy aparitions which helps. I just dont think spriest should ever have a bursty format to them.

Do you think this change would be a nerf or a buff to their survivability in MoP?

As far as i remember the whole thing for demo, weather dhadow bolt or incy build, in pve was resumoning demons, becouse felguard did no dmg, but had the best dark soul, so you would only have it for the burst, how does that play style play into pvp? Destro had to have imp to do dmg too

Guys i have one question, how it works in cata is it like in wotlk when you would need to go do pve raids to get bis trinkets and stuff in order to be competitive in pvp or you can be fine just by doing pvp activities?
i use to play unholy DK Enhance Rdruid at like 2700+ in cata really never had an issue ever with any comp and we just shit on all casters they almost never got to cast ever even have some videos on youtube still from the turny realm with a pally healer at like 2500 even beat some of the old MLG players with the comp
CATA ele wasnt greatest in arena. But! In BG's...... Booiiiiii 👉👌... Only classes i struggled with were rogue ( which i got to 50/50) and feral ( for some reason bit harder than rogue) but could win sometimes. Favourite expansion to BG on ele for sure. LB, TRINK, COE, FS, LAVB, CL, LB, ES = ☠️ To most classes

It was def busted but depends on which patch. They were way better at the start or rather lots of others got buffed up by the end plus raid tier trinkets etc was make or break for some specs like warrior. MM hunter and ret pally and dk were all strong by season10 in fact you’d see triple dps 3v3. Running RLS I ran into a lot of MM/unholy/ret triple dps and they’d basically just run down your sham. Sub rogue was def the most fun in cata and mop!

Many wrong classes in wrong tier.... Shadow priest is noy tier S in nobody bracket. 2s,3s,5s and rbg.. dont exist many shadows in top of ladder. Blood dk is not S. Is A-, bit better then B. Is good, but not Tier S Pally is tier B? Are u crazy??? Pally is tier S, is better heal with many tier S comps, and obrigatory in Rbgs.... Disci is tier S too better heal for Rbgs, x5 and many Tier S comps in 3s like RPM. Just druids and holys are not S in pvp... Feral is tier S too.. Mandatory in Rbgs for fc/tactics... Better in 2s, and very good in 3s too Rest is correct!
This video clearly show how a "pro" player may have a not-so-accurate opinion. Cata's Affliction one of the most fun? Have you ever tried playing 2v2 arena as Affliction in Cata? It's an absolute infuriating experience. You can't kill anything with minimum healing by yourself, too many new Heals/Hots/Shields combined with DoT damage being reduced way too much after Wrath. In before the "balanced for 3s" BS.

4.1 and it wasn't mid expansion. It was the end of the first season. They nerfed it with Firelands release 4.2

We are way harder to kite with the amount of outs we have (Sham Rage cleanse, Earthbind out of roots, Frostbrand/Shock root, Ghostwolf, etc.) Hopefully I'm right!
I think you talk about high rating arenas, because Ele Shamans and Surv Hunters are awesome in BGs
Prot pally needs some love on this. i had some 20 minute arenas where it would come down to me and a blood Dk and we just couldnt kill eachother. The damage isnt as regular a Retribution but ill take the survivability with some burst anyday. 2-3 people to bring me down.
To those whom did not play cata : tanks when they get hit they build up stacks of vengeance to increase their damage. This makes tanks so strong in pvp. Not sure if they implement 4.3 where this was nerfed. Also numbers of buttons are at all time high especially for boombkin. So many buttons I had to do 8 full rows. Finally the dominating combo at 4.3 is lock shaman rogue. Especially when rogue had legendary daggers.
Vengeance will not exist in cata classic since it's released in 4.3.4 it was gone by then
Yea that won’t exist in cata classic. And also, at least in arenas, nobody with any skill would make a tank the kill target so it’s irrelevant anyway.
Anyone know how gearing is in Cata? Hate classic gearing still. Wrath included. 2 months just to get BiS for a not amazingly high rated player.
Much better in cata. Maybe best ever, only behind mop. Basically no pve required, arena points catchup and fast honor from bgs.

@@joshyman221i remember legendary staves and daggers dominating along with dragon soul trinkets, but i don’t know what the meta has been on private. my experience was retail and a lot of the frustration was running into double legendary RLS

I've played A LOT of cata pservs, and there's some changes i'd recommend: frost mage was def S tier, RMP was busted, and bring fire down to A, it wasn't as good as frost. Boomy, and i main druid, was prob A tier, not S. there were limted comps you could play with it, most notibly spicy chicken cleave (boomy/fire mage/rsham or disc) Bring disc to S tier, cuz... uh RMP. Hpal was Either S or A. KFC, jungle, TSG were all played with Hpal and all really good comps. Blood bring down to A or even B. At the high end, people could deal with blood dks. They were really susceptible to CC and magic damage dealers, but very tanky into phys. Ret is probably A, but definitely a competitor for S, so maybe low S tier for ret. That's about it.

@@devwadehra9896I played shadow as my secondary on retail, shadow in cata is a really cool class design but it's not easy and particularly struggles in 2v2 since it doesn't do well under pressure, but in 3s with a healer or in 2s when paired with a high-control class like sub or frost mage, it can contribute to some crazy CC chains and has awesome utility, and the burst damage is nothing to sneeze at when it's set up properly.

Ah the boomies. I remember queuing up arena and facing a team of boomies just to get facerolled with all the crazy damage they did.
Warrior was awful in cata after the nerfs in s9. It relied entirely on one shots which were completely RNG based. Later in the expansion it relied entirely on having Gurthalak and the dragon soul trinket to deal competitive damage, but was totally overshadowed by most other specs even then. It was one of the worst classes in the game in cata pvp, if not the worst.

I miss recoup, don’t miss redirect clunky unnecessary mechanic on an already keybind heavy class for arena. I do miss combat readiness. Also miss old shadow dance and the stealth abilities hitting hard rather than Eviscerate spam. I also miss hemorrhage. Cata and mop sub rogue the best expansions for rogue no contest. There was so much more room for outplays and recovery or being able to flip a duel rather than whoever gets opened on first loses. Tbh was a lot more room for outplay for most classes but rogue really was something to behold. You couldn’t pay me to watch a “duel” video now days

Ret will be shit in cata classic until the catch-up to DS content, for a very simple reason. Most likely 4.3.4 talents and class mechanics will be implemented as soon as cata classic starts, which means a 10sec CD on Wog for rets (vs no cd during the actual 4.0.6 patch). The absence of Cd on Wog in 4.0.6 was to compensate the fact that the only way to get holy power is crusader strike and procs (meaning you wont generate any holy power when facing any mage type caster or any agility based class). 4.3.4 had the two tier set giving holy power through judgement which wont be the case when cata classic is released.
So basically on release of cata classic rets will have a long ass cd on wog and no actual way to generate holy power to do damage or heal, making it way weaker than in the real 4.0.6
In CATA they took away the up-front damage of Devouring Plague and it pretty killed SP

Prot Paladin is really broken in Pvp, Gear correct and you can't simpel die matter what in Pvp, you do good dmg if you gear like Retri paladin.

No they will most likely release the same way they did with Wotlk, so end of content talents and mechanics, only the gear will be from 4.0 but everything else will be from 4.3.4

As someone who have played cata for years on private servers this is not very accurate, largely depends on phase and pve items much like in wrath but id say this is inaccurate, in the patch we are getting cata on 4.3 warrior is b tier at best both in 3s and 2s.. boomy, shadow and fire are good and fun but are far from S tier u can argue feral and mm cud take their places..
Yeah, sub, mm and feral are s tier. Then prolly something like ret, fire, affli, udk. But definitely not this tier list.

Ferals are S, mm is S, frost mage is S, hpal is S, rsham is HIGH A (legit highest A tier spec), aff lock is high A, sub rogue is high S and the leggo daggers make them highest S, fire mage is A. Just my 2 cents.

@devwadehra9896 coming from maining a spriest in wotlk, i think they took a step back as far as pvping goes. I was not a fan of the shadow orb mechanic that was introduced to them. I could be wrong, but i believe they took on a more burst centered role in cata with the introduction of mind spike. Spriests dont pick up again until MoP imo. With that being said, i put spriest in the b tier range. Keep in mind, i like specs that exceed in 1v1, dueling, and world pvp situations.

@@devwadehra9896 Sorry for the late reply as life has a funny way of getting in the way of things. In my opinion, spriest in mop gets better just like a lot of off meta specs for a multitude of reasons. They Finally get another def CD which is spectral guise. This move allows them to go invisible for a short amount of time. as you can imagine, this gives them both engaging ability along with some more self peel. Also, (could be wrong about this) i think their dmg profile gets tweaked again with more focus being on shadowy aparitions which helps. I just dont think spriest should ever have a bursty format to them.
@@ploopyful thank you for your reply I see in the MoP data for patch 5.4.2. that their shadow form damage mitigation was changed from reducing all damage done by 15% to SP and it was changed to shadow priests gain 100% more armor while in shadow form. Do you think this change would be a nerf or a buff to their survivability in MoP?

As far as i remember the whole thing for demo, weather dhadow bolt or incy build, in pve was resumoning demons, becouse felguard did no dmg, but had the best dark soul, so you would only have it for the burst, how does that play style play into pvp? Destro had to have imp to do dmg too

i use to play unholy DK Enhance Rdruid at like 2700+ in cata really never had an issue ever with any comp and we just shit on all casters they almost never got to cast ever even have some videos on youtube still from the turny realm with a pally healer at like 2500 even beat some of the old MLG players with the comp

It was def busted but depends on which patch. They were way better at the start or rather lots of others got buffed up by the end plus raid tier trinkets etc was make or break for some specs like warrior. MM hunter and ret pally and dk were all strong by season10 in fact you’d see triple dps 3v3. Running RLS I ran into a lot of MM/unholy/ret triple dps and they’d basically just run down your sham. Sub rogue was def the most fun in cata and mop!

This video clearly show how a "pro" player may have a not-so-accurate opinion. Cata's Affliction one of the most fun? Have you ever tried playing 2v2 arena as Affliction in Cata? It's an absolute infuriating experience. You can't kill anything with minimum healing by yourself, too many new Heals/Hots/Shields combined with DoT damage being reduced way too much after Wrath.
