      It was $950,000, not exactly one million. Hopper was initially supposed to pay Torn $475,000 in damages, but after Hopper appealed, it was again ruled in Torn’s favor and not only did he have to pay the initial money to Torn but it was then doubled.

    It's a shame that he chose not to give Peter Fonda and Terry Southern any credit for Ewsy Rider even though they both contributed to the movie and Terry Southern had much more experience in the movie biz at the time. Dennis feuded with Peter and even sued him over the movie. Peter tried to pay respects at Dennis's funeral but was turned away due to Dennis's wishes. A damn shame what egos do to some people. What an iconic movie!! It will live forever.

    I agree with Leno and Hopper that nobody could play Nicholson’s role in Easy Rider but Nicholson. Though it’s been reported Hopper pulled the knife on Torn, Hopper and Torn were both fantastic actors. Torn was fantastic in Albert Brooks sadly underrated comedy gem Defending Your Life and on The Larry Sanders Show. Hopper was also great in so much. Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Rivers Edge, Blue Velvet Hoosiers, Speed so many great films.

    Nicholson nailed the Lawyer role, but I get Hopper's point, Nicholson wrote "The Trip" which was a brilliant piece of writing, so Hopper probably thought of Nicholson more as a writer back then. Nicholson could have had a great career as a screenwriter, but clearly he chose acting.

      Very cool. He acted with Dean in both Giant and Rebel. And as I stated above, I feel Dean would've been terrific as George Hanson, the boozing lawyer. How prim and proper Hopper appears to be here. Hmmm..was he always this square thinking while doing Easy Rider, just wearing the freaky look then only as a facade? I read he "hated" so called hippies, yet he picked up on that look for quite a while. Hmmm...odd, but so it was apparently. Maybe the conservative look made him appear more castable, so to speak, for work in films to the Hollywood casting agents.

    • @waynej2608
      @waynej2608 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He certainly lived like a 'hippy', living in a commune in Taos, NM and doing enough drugs to trip out an entire battalion. To say nothing of the 'free love', he partook in. Yeah, I wouldn't say he hated hippies. His change of style was, as u stated, prolly due to casting trends. Fine actor, if a bit off beat.

      Yes, the good old days will never come back will they, and I wasn't alive when easy rider came out but those were the best days on this planet (America1945-1969), Americans were proud to have taken out an evil super power before it had a chance to rule the world, ww2 destroyed so many European factories that America was walmart to the world and 1 parent (a man) could provide a house, 2 cars, and vacations without college debt and moms were proud to stay home to make a good home for the kids, people knew right from wrong, in general and equality was on its way, Our CIA and its overlords saw mlk,jfk etc. as a threat to power and world domination
      From 1900-1969 we went from horse and carriages to nuclear weapons and space travel, since 1969 progress is a secret for the powerful men who do share their names and espouse their virtuosity while harboring nothing but contempt for the vast majority of the world, the feed off of our very life force, years of our own toil to be used against us,
      Also, Colors was a great movie

    He seems a good guy in this interview, contrary to the characters he played. Although many people say he was mean in real life, too

      He wasn't mean in real life. In my 3 minutes interaction with him he was intensely shy.

      @@genestone4951 3 minutes? You were able to deduce that this actor who definitely didn’t put up a facade in front of fans and cameras was not a mean person in 3 minutes? That’s impressive.
