I met Eric Heiden at a bike race in Calif.6 months after he won those 5 golds in Lake Placid. He is a Dr.on the US Speed Skating team.I'm sure you'll see him on TV.Its a shock to see him with gray hair.
It is due to specialization as well. There is no way an allrounder can grab the 1500m record today - even elite short distance specialists have trouble matching the explosive pace needed now. By the way, this is significantly slower than the current women's WR as well.
@@Querientje Well, Shani Davis, Cindy Klassen, and Sven Kramer did set amazing records that lasted for over a decade between 05-09. They were incredible athletes, and those records are still among the fastest races ever. 05-09 wasn't THAT long after the clap skate became the norm, so you have a point there. But neither Kramer, Davis, nor Klassen have set world records on three separate distances. And that isn't because Koss was greater than them, it is because of specialization.
You must be insane stupid. Koss made world records before olympic games 1994. He was even a gold winner in 1992, so how come he had no results before OG 1994? Koss retired early because he had won everything, and decided to have a work carriere as a doctor. There was no money to gain in speed skating, so ofcourse he took the right decision for himself.

Koss, also a hero in the Netherlands!
Your guys are all spoken highly in our country aswell! We've had some battles. So much fun to watch and follow!
Husker det der enda.var vanvittig å få oppleve av en nordmann.
Hard to believe that 20 years more than 10 seconds have been shaved from this record.
Because of the clap skate an the skating suit.
