    My brother-in-law has the same problem as Hibiki. He can't even handle multiple people talking at the same time without being overwhelmed. Great video. Very informative.

      I have experienced this at a table full of people and they're voices blended together and it was so disorienting. I had my hearing tested and was told it was superb. My ears are super sensitive and while I can handle most everyday sound because I live away from a loud city, I play my music at 20 in the car because my cars sounds are too loud to focus on the music. Loud and quiet can be overwhelming for me. I can only think my ears are that sensitive because of ADHD, and twice the times that I had a gunshot fired near my ear or around me. I have headphones on most of the time when traveling. A couple of years ago it was worse and I had to wear headphones at a concert. Still do. It's interesting the different ways we can be sensitive to sound. I did a DNA test and it said I was likely to have misophonia. My case isn't as bad as some though. I'm sorry your brother suffers like that. It could always come in handy if honed well though.

      happened once to me when i was younger, tho i'm autistic and.. yeah it can get rough.
      in particular, being from south italy, our family en large is generally very loud at the lunch/dinner table, we ended up not going to our parents homes weekly anymore because of that, and in the long run, even my father started being unable to handle it(though it is unknown if he too was autistic, even though there's a decent chance he had some underlying mental issues as well)
      it is "destabilizing" how i usually put it, it's not just simply intrusive, it's like how a loud dog barking suddenly out of the blue while you're writing can make you jerk the writing and suddenly stop, except it's constant so you have to fight it continuously, being the stress i the long run unbearable it can lead to the only solution as being rather overwhelming, that likely being where you get screaming reactions from some autistic people, as that is sometimes the only way to try ad stop the overstimulation, or at least overpower it.

    I also have hearing problems that I’ve never knew how to name or explain them. When I hear some kind of whistle it feels like it’s drilling my head. When I’m around a lot of different noises (like supermarkets, etc.) I feel overwhelmed and even sometimes I end up crying of tiredness, I also can even hear things that people can’t. And lastly I absolutely hate human sounds, I hate the sound of people chewing, breathing, and even the small clicks they do when they’re touching their nails. Every time someone uses my headphones they don’t hear anything while I hear everything perfectly. I absolutely loved this movie because I’ve never seen someone with the same condition as I have, and also this video helped me even more to know that I’m not some kind of supernatural weirdo with hearing superpowers. Thank you to Wit Studios and you for giving us voice ❤️

      I am the same. Everything you said I have issues with. When I'm at work I'm the only one who wears earplugs in an area where you don't need them. When I first started there, I didn't know I needed them. But the forklift noises, the beeping, the clanging of metal racks, killed me. I felt like I was the only one who felt this way. Many I've asked about this say the noises are loud, but I'm the only one who complains that it hurts. Whistles hurt my brain too. Silverware clanging, chewing and swallowing. Sudden quiet and loud noises freak me out. The scanner at work used to beep in my ear and it hurt. One day someone noticed and got me earplugs. They were so nice. I've tried to be normal there, but as soon as a clang or a bang happens, I'm reminded that I shouldn't feel that way and need some earplugs. Like even with the plugs in my brain feels it. Now I'm getting sensory overload without even noticing it. I was internally freaking out earlier at work because of it. When I walked away the anxiety subsided. I don't want to have to take breaks so often like that though. I wanted to cry and scream I was so uncomfortable.

      @@Servant_of_Yeshua96 I feel exactly as you described! Every time I tried to explain someone how I am they say something like "yeah uh I do also hate the sound of silverware" amd I'm like yeah but that's not what I'm saying??? Until I started using sound cancelling headphones like the ones people use on construction works they thought it wasn't that bad, my headphones are my besties, I even stoped having really bad migraine and I can keep going on social events, I'm aware people look at me with a weird look but I kinda like that and my friends accept me for who I am so yeah, I leart how to accept myself and to inform myself about my condition.
      Thanks for sharing your experience!

    It also shows some things that people with autism go through with hearing so much around them it’s hard to handle and they sometimes cover their ears to try and have the ability to block it out

    I feel Hibiki a lot. I wear iems now but I used to wear over-the-ear headphones to lessen the noise around me. It gets really nauseating and annoying when there's too much noise around especially during class in which, I get sent to the Dean many times for wearing them. Since now I live in a suburban area, there's less noise and less people around and I get to switch to iems whenever I'm outside. My house is a bit isolated, sound wise, so I'm comfortable wearing nothing in my ear.
    One time when I was younger living in the city, I got irritated by outside so bad I tried puncturing my own ear. Dad caught me almost injuring myself and stopped me and from there, I've discovered his noise cancelling headsets used in his work and actually discovered heaven from it. Noise isolating stuff really helps.

    Just to clear it up, during the MRI scenes they are not actually playing sounds for him to Listen to, it's just what the machine sounds like. And MRI machines are loud as heck, usually people wear noise cancelling headphones during scans because it's so freaking loud! No wonder he looked liked he was being tortured, if he experiences these already loud noises even louder!

    I also have problems with hypersensitivity, I am autistic an while I wouldn't say my hearing is better than other people my age I am very easily overwhelmed by loud sounds, different sounds can cause me to have panic attacks and migraines, i love different types of music Including metal but I am unable to go to concerts because I get overwhelmed, anytime I go to crowded events I use earplugs, I would prefer to use ear muffs but my family will not allow it because i would stand out to much. I dont know anyone else with this problem so I am always really glad to see it being represented in shows and movies.

    What's weird is it's not loud noises that bother me so much but the lack of rhythm I guess, like I hate sitting in a cafeteria and listening to all the different voices at different intervals but I love to put in my headphones and blast my music

    Great video, I also have a suggestion for maybe another one, there is this anime called Megalo Box where basically people just have a boxing match inside a ring with a machine on their back that makes punches more powerful and guards harder to break.
    Possible spoilers ahead
    In season 2, a friend of the main character Gearless Joe (aka Nomad) dies after winning the tournament without why ever being mentioned. All amateurs like me can do is speculate why. I really wonder how you would break the injuries of the fight down and what you might think the cause of death likely is.

    I should probably check this one out, seems like a cool movie. Great video. (୨୧ ❛ᴗ❛)✧
    I am a bit sensitive to everyday sounds and as a music lover in NY, I spent a lot of my teens in headphones (I have a bit of misophonia too) but nothing like Hibiki. Even last year, I had tinnitus, pain and hypersensitivity in one ear that lasted for a weeks and I ended up going to the emergency room (after it stuck around for a few days), scared I was losing hearing in that ear. When I went all the hospital could do at the time was give me SudaFed for a week, which helped thankfully and a referral to an ENT. So, I'd gotten to see the ENT who checked and cleaned it, then sent me for hearing tests, and thank God, the tinnitus went away naturally. Funny thing though, when the ENT reviewed my hearing test results he said, 'people would be lucky to be born with hearing this good.' You'd think with good hearing it'd be more precise but nah, everything is just louder but I can occasionally pick familiar voices from a crowd. Lol

    As someone not with hypersensitive but have a decent sensitive hearing I can relate atleast with the discomfort of overcrowded places or things that are too noisy so I find ways to distract myself like Hibiki did (also just finished watching the anime ahh) yet…I realized I relate to him on a spiritual level [most of the family members I had were deaf so I need to adjust to their level but also find ways not to break my own sensitive hearing) and it’s always nice to find comfort of serenity

    im often very sensitive to all my senses when im stressed or tired, but that is pretty normal i take from this video?
    i dont get stressed that often but when i do, im almost always very sensitive
    (im autistic btw, but i dont think that has much to do with this since i dont have it on normal days)

  • @Pika999
    @Pika999 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was diagnosed with autism when I was four and I am just like Hibiki, I can't go anywhere without my noise canceling headphones or else all the sounds are physically painful and nauseating and cause me to have a meltdown...I can hear things most people can't and everything is much louder to me than it is to the average person. When watching Bubble, I got upset when Makoto took Hibiki's headphones away in the beginning, my brain was screaming, 'DON'T DO THAT!!!' When people try to take MY headphones away, I get really upset and sometimes even react violently due to extreme distress and anger at having the object I literally can't function without taken away from me. Recently I had a meltdown at a brunch I went to with my family because there were too many people talking at once and clinking of silverware all over the place and I ended up bolting out of the restaurant and back to the car with my hands over my headphones trying to put more pressure on them to block out the noise even more, which I do often when I'm too overwhelmed. I have no idea how most people can handle everyday sounds...like how my parents find the sound of rain or the ocean relaxing but I can't stand it, it's so loud to me that it physically hurts my ears...so I don’t ever go to the beach because it causes meltdowns. During mandatory yearly hearing tests at school I always amazed the nurses because I could hear frequencies most people can't. I don’t know why they were so amazed by it though, the pain and distress it causes me is debilitating...I tried retraining my brain to tolerate everyday sounds multiple times, but failed each time...I guess it's something I can't fix unfortunately...

    I think I've got something pretty similar as a side effect of my autism. There's certain sounds that make sense to my brain (music is the big one here, but also stuff like rain or someone holding a conversation with me) and certain sounds that don't (like random background chatter and, vexingly enough, the particular way my sister laughs). Usually I can deal with "nonsensical" sounds well enough, but sometimes, usually when I'm stressed out but sometimes when I'm just tired or occasionally for no reason at all, any noise that doesn't make sense feels grating and overwhelming. I usually keep a pair of earbuds on me whenever I leave home so I can put on some music if I need it.

    What's the difference between hyperacousis and hypersensitivity to sound?

  • @gabrielmoura409
    @gabrielmoura409 ปีที่แล้ว

    A minha opinião é de que o Hibiki provavelmente não é um personagem com autismo, mas com hipersensibilidade auditiva, ou talvez seja um asperger, faria bastante sentido ele ser um asperger, já que ele não socializa muito com as outras pessoas, não tem como ele ser um autista que não seja asperger, pois os aspergers são os únicos autistas que não tem dificuldades na fala na infância, e ele nunca teve problemas de fala na história.
    Espero que tenham gostado

    I can handle sounds I can control, like music. But layers and layers of sound makes it feel like my skin is too tight and covered in worms. The weird screech that mechanical pencils make me want to rip off my ears, while the sound of people eating/breathing makes me want to rip off my skin. It’s really weird since I like somewhat loud/chaotic music, but it might be because I’m prepared for/know what happens in said songs.

    Placing emphasis on disabilities romanticizes disabilities. And stupid people, about 95%, will start mimicking this. Stop it.

      @connorgrynol9021 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ah yes, having a cool one armed swordsman will make people wanna amputate their arm. Look at all the people who have imitated Guts. Oh wait…
      It’s not an emphasis that’s the problem. Emphasizing a disability is a way of including disabled people. If you try to turn that disability into a superpower, that’s when it can become a problem.
      But even then it’s not as bad as you make it out to be. Say a blind person can use something like echolocation like in Daredevil, what’s a normal person gonna do? Walk like a blind person? Try to use echolocation? It might seem like mockery to try to imitate a disabled person’s behaviour, but I sincerely doubt very many people are offended by this. If I’m being honest, I think more healthy people would get offended that disabled people.
