As a person who has used their custom nib service, everything is absurdly done to perfection. Never had a problem with my MB's.
My late father left me his Montblanc pen, a Miguel de Cervantes. It's beautiful and has a weight to it that brought gravitas to every thing he wrote with it. I need to purchase some cartridges and begin to write my own stories and letters with it now, because it feels so good in the hand.
I should probably invest in some good stationary, too.
I love Montblanc pens! I have two of them, both I bought second hand. One has an OB nib and has been neglected by its previous owner, it was clogged with dried ink and did not write. I cleaned it myself carefully and patiently and now it's perfect. The nibs are works of art really.
I don't have any, but my BFF and I have been saving up to buy one from the local pen store, and we always get so excited when we see pens... I got a WHOLE collection of pens, and my friend just likes drawing with them.
Also , do u know why my fountain pen ink just started turning grey after I unclogged it today? I had washed it up for hours and let it dry for about a day, but now the ink has turned grey...

Between ballpoint, rollerball, and fountain pen, my husband has over 30 MBs collected over the years.
I myself don’t own a pen of this caliber but I appreciate when someone is this passionate about something to the point where I can spend time admiring it myself
I bought a Masterstruck 149 in platinum for my 32nd birthday along with a Pelikan M1005 streseman and good lord!!! those two pens are absolutely FIRE, best purchase in a pen i have ever made thus farrr. That Montblanc....writes like a dream, super classy!!! never getting rid off it!!!
I own multiple Montblanc 146,144,149, and vintage 149 celluloid. I really thought they’re the best until I tried Sailor’s King of Pen beats all of those in terms of writing experience.
I've been a proud owner of Mont Blanc pens and accessories for over 20 years. Its been an absolute pleasure, to say the very least.

I am lucky to have a Mont Blanc. I had visited Geneva and strolled through its city center and suddenly discovered a Mont Blanc showroom. I was surprised! Collecting pen is my hobby, additionally I am a Novel writer. Mont Blanc should be at the top of my collection. I purchased a Mont Blanc Enzo Ferrari on 17 September 2023.

I own a dozen MB pens from fountain pen to ballpoints from 60 years old to today’s modern designs. They are perfect, in every way from how they look to how they write.

These are expensive but absolutely perfect. The nib writes well, the barrel pump is flawless, the pen never leaks, the ink flow is always uniform and the pen does not dry up even after six months of non use. I have an old Meisterstuck that is as good as new after 30 years
My 146 leaked. They are not perfect. They are as good as Aurora Sailor or Pilot. A bit annoying with their pricing strategy but still nice pens.
I have 3 and none of them write properly. Skip, skip, skipity skip with a few dry starts thrown in.
Today going through my old stuff, I realized I had a Mont Blanc pen an old friend that passed away gave me.

Love this video. I adore my Montblanc pens. When I use my 149 I suddenly get all serious, and when I write with my 145 the words just skip onto the page. It sounds silly but it really does bring emotion into writing for me.

They give a good talk, just not a good value - today there are many more choices. Monblanc needs to restore their uniqueness by improving both presentation and improving its value added; you get far too little for a lot today at Montblanc.
They increased the price to scare of clients. It did not work.
It’s a Montblanc. It’s a luxury brand. There isn’t much in the way of value with luxury. People don’t spend thousand, hundreds of thousands or millions on something because its a good value. I own three and I wouldn’t want them to become cheaper and more easy to afford because it takes away from the exquisiteness of owning a Montblanc. If you want value go with Lami, Pelikan, Pilot or even Visconti with some pens. No one buys a $100,000 Mercedes because it a good value, thats a Honda Civic. They buy it for what it says about you. It’s a social status symbol.

The Montblanc Meisterstück is a real masterpiece, as the name implies. But, alas, I still prefer the feel and smoothness of the S. T. Dupont. Very interesting video!

Have to add. When getting the new Mont Blanc, just write, write and write. And DO use the the right ink which also makes the pen behave wonderful. Be very, very careful of which ink you use.
With this, yes the nib adjust when you write, it really does. I love my Mont Blanc, have to say.
Montblanc makes great writing instruments but what discourages most is the value. Comparable pens such as Pelikan M800 and M1000 are often found at about half the price as their Montblanc 146 and 149 equivalents (I'm talking new, not used or opened). The Pelikan pens are very comparable in terms of writing experience, technology and built quality but still manage to cost so much less. Simply because Pelikan isn't and doesn't want to be a premium luxury brand such as Montblanc. You don't pay for the Pelikan branding, you pay for the pen, with MB you pay for the pen twice, once for the pen and another time for the branding coming up to it's ridiculous price.
When you charge thousands of dollars, you can say anything you want

I adore wonderful handmade quality. I think they are so spot on when it come to catch the soul of what they do. With my new fountain pen, I felt that now they deliver everything they can quality wise, like rolling out a red carpet. I just need to walk on it. Now the pen is mine to use in every day life to write with. With that, the nib will be more and more adjusted to my hand writing style. Many seem to have forgotten the depth of what quality is. I appriciate it daily.

I have several and they are a pleasure to use. It is unfortunate we live in a society whose writing skills barely qualify for a cheap #2 pencil.
I have been buying and using Montblanc fountain pens since 1970s. The ones from 1970s have great nibs and write very well smooth as butter. However every new pen bought since 1990s even the ones from MB boutiques in Cologne and Boston the nibs were scratching and had to be tuned by a nibmeister. Even I became more expert in tuning MB fountain pens. My grandfather’s 1950s pen writes great. When the nibs are tuned right, they write great. My opinion nib quality has to be consistently continually of high quality for an expensive pen!

Love MB fountain pens. However igot twice a ,,monday,, products.... were not writing well. Sso i had to change into rollerball....
They are very nice pens. Not as good as Sailor or Pilot and people buy them because they are expensive but 149 is in my top 10 favourites.

from 139 to current limited editions, MB just spent more time/effort in areas people can see, for example, the exterior design, the materials they choose, but spent less and less on the mechanism.. namely, filling mechanism...

Lone Writer Same. My favorite pens are Pilots. I like the custom 74 and the Vanishing point, and they’re still around 1/10th the cost of a Montblanc.
If more Japanese pens were made to look a bit more attractive I would buy them. Take the 823 for example .. just looks so bland but writes well .. I would never buy that amber brown colour, looks drab.
I have expensive taste and a a very small budget, so i get the pilot g2 limited pens and stick the mtblanc rollerball refills inside. $180 pen for $20

Love the 149. But the whole “gold nib adapts to your writing” thing is not entirely true.
Robert Kessler not true at all really, if the nib tipping material wears away that fast, it really means the pen is of terrible quality. Just a marketing gimmick, and a fountain pen myth lol.
They did not say the gold nib adapts to your writing. They said that each one uses the pen in a different way and that the (emotional) bond between user and instrument grows stronger each day you use your pen :)
The only one that may adapt to someone's writing is the custom nibs they make for people

Depends mostly on the way you hold the pen, i am left handed myself and have no problems.
In general, there are a few possibly limiting factors like the ink you are using (to avoid smearing you will need a fast drying ink) etc.
I can highly recommend the "Left Out" video series by "The Goulet Pen Company", wich deals with all the problems left handed fountain pen users could face.
Left or right doesn’t matter as long as one has truckload of money 😉

It’s a fashion brand perfectly presented by their creative director’s opening line. If you’re buying a reliable writing instrument you’re not buying Montblanc. If you’re buying a pen incarnation of a Louis V bag you’re buying a Montblanc pen. It’s neither the quality it used to be nor the fair markup as seen on most competitors in this market
What reliable fountain pen that will last a lifetime would you recommend?
Sophia M my favorite one that I always recommend to friends is Platinum 3776 Century. Amazing Japan-made pen with 14k gold nib at a comparatively affordable price ~150£.
@@Sophie2570 Aloha Sophia, there are so many good FP's out there, it would be hard to narrow down. I will say most FP's will last a lifetime if properly maintained, (general cleaning etc.) As FP's are very personal, from how it feels in the hand, how it feels when you write, and design and material that speaks to you, my best advice is going to a pen show so you can see, touch and write with a variety of pens. Personally, I have pens from the 1920's through modern pens; what I can say is generally, some vintage pens require more maintenance, (sack replacement etc.), and seem to be a little more susceptible to leaking. That said, if you like flex writing, no modern pen will equal the flex of a vintage flex nib. I found a good compromise at vintagepen.net. Mauricio finds vintage flex nibs and marries them to modern FP nibs and feeds. I personally own one of his Pelikan M800, burnt orange, fitted with a Warranted 14k flex nib. It is one of my favorite writers and is in my everyday rotation. Best of luck on your journey.
I feel similarly. If they use machines to produce the product, and with the scale the work on, no way their pens should be as expensive as they are.

By reading the comments, it looks like the more modern MB's are not as good as the older ones. Yikes, I really wanted to save to buy one. Guess I'm sticking with my Waterman pen for the moment.
I've always wanted to work in the nip department full time. I mean i do a good bit of part time and one offs working in the nip department but a full time gig would be nice.

As a work of design art, it is beautiful, and the feel of the shape and weight in the hand is unsurpassed. As a writing instrument, it is mediocre. I own four Montblanc 149s, have had them since the 1990s, and I like them less every year compared to other fountain pens. I have other pens that may look and feel only 98 per cent as good as MB, but they write 3 times better. I cannot recommend Montblanc pens, except as fashion jewelry for people who really don't like fountain pens very much.
Damn, I am Swiss and I lived my whole life thinking it was a Swiss brand, because of the mountain brand name and it somehow fits well in between the whole watch thing going on here. Now I can finally loudly admit that I always prefered Japanese pens, they are the true God-Emperors of pen making - at a fraction of the price, period.

I'm very curios about all this hipe of Montblanc pens, I'd love to try one but there are no pen stores around here where I'm from. I'm not all that crazy about plain black pens although I have a black Omas Paragon, shear delight to write with. Perhaps someday I'll meet someone who has one.
I love Lamy Safari. They write like butter. They have a great documentary on TH-cam about how they make them but also they are excellent to their employees. Makes me loyal to Lamy...

just go with Japanese fountain pens if you are intrested in precise and true fountain pen writing experience. If you want to look rich and need something that writes ok go with montblanc. if you want something in between that is also beautiful go Pelikan!

Jakab Gábor learn how to maintain and use fountain pens, do not sell that pen. You might regret it if you sell it. If it's an older model, send it in for restoration or do it yourself. You might find enjoyment in using the pen!

So if youre a billionaire signing a million dollar document, you would likely use a $150 Ink, that justifys your status.

And they're not $150, a bottle of Montblanc Royal Blue ink is around $25 dollars. You have absolutely no idea what you're talling about, Jesus.
Bought a new mont blanc argent massif from Selfridges and the nib was absolutely horrible. On par with a cheap jinhao.
Poushal their rollerball refills are absurd. A damn bic pen writes better.
Danny Cheek I am a fountain pen guy but yeah from the roller balls that I have tried, there is a definite stutter from the few strokes I tried. Subpar.

I recently acquired a MB Meisterstuck 145 and paid around 550 Euros for it. I bought it at a MB company showroom and got a company guarantee card, so it obviously wasn't fake. I am extremely disappointed at the way it writes. The fine nib is extremely rough and a very bad writer. I had tried other MBs with medium nibs at the showroom but they were disappointing too. I have since returned the pen to MB and asked for a nib change. I hope the new nib saves MB's reputation in my eyes. I have pens worth 10-20 Euros that write much better.
Montblanc pens (and often any fountain pen) will not write that good out of the box. As it says in the video, you gradually adapt the nib over time to your writing angle and style.
Don't be impatient, and write every day for a while with your pen for a month or so. You will notice how it gets better and better.
@@arnaupuig5097 I own over 70 fountain pens of different brands from all over the world and most of them wrote well straight out of the box when brand new. Brands like Pilot and Parker are completely reliable in this respect. So I can't buy the argument that one needs to write with a fountain pen for some time to get it to write properly. Also, I got my MB 145 back from Mont Blanc with a new nib yesterday and this one writes very well, without me having to spend days writing with it. The problem was clearly with my earlier nib. I've also heard a lot of people on online forums say that MB's quality control is not what it used to be.

And yet..the woman that writes (Quality control) presses so hard her knuckles are white, my montblanc pen wrote like shit, had to redo the whole nib point... unfortunately montblanc had gotten a good name when they still delivered quality..not so much these days...now you pay for the name, not for a quality writing instrument..

Funnily enough, I have realised that the Montblanc fountain pens have a design fault with them - Took me a few minutes of ownership to realise this - When unscrewing the cap, you need to be careful not to unscrew it holding on to the bottom part of the pen, you will inadvertantly open up the piston filler and not the cap - happen twice to me in the 30 mins of ownership. If only the piston filler has the thread turning the other way, it wouldn't have happened, or some form of fail safe mechasim for foolish people like me.
Well, but then, the issue will appear when closing the cap. Clearly there is a problem and I would leave it to the smart heads at Montblanc to solve it. May be a push cap??
Other than that, it is an amazing pen, one which is indeed an extension of myself and one which indeed delivers the "feel" whenever I pick it to write something.

Bought 20 pens in Staples for $10.00. They work perfectly. If I lose one, it's not problem. I'm astounded that in this day and age, with most people "writing" on a computer, that this business model is still sucessful.
It's not only about getting something written, it's about the EXPERIENCE.

It is interesting that most commentators here can get past neither the appearance of Kamal nor their own confirmation bias. If you assess Kamal as an individual ought to be for their professional deftness (or for its lack thereof) you will find him thoughtful enough as a craftsman who can market well. If you assess the pens as pens ought to be, you will find that a Meisterstuck or some of their LE offerings do offer a balance of attributes useful to a serious user of fountain pens - a writing professional, for instance, who prefers longhand over touch typing. A filling capacity that you can rely on for days without refilling however huge your daily word count is, ergonomics to lend you comfort through an entire day of writing, a nib that is one of the smoothest you can hope for and that which is wet enough for a lubricated writing experience and is offered in a greater variety of nib sizes (with EF ground for an architect-esque line variation and B, BB, Obliques ground for regular line variation) than what most brands offer these days - this and much more, including their aesthetics, tend to make them more than adequate choices as tools for writers who write fairly copiously. While Montblanc pens are not the only ones that offer a mix of these attributes - it would be a disadvantageous world if we had not a plethora to choose from - you must understand that it is a matter of subjective reconstruction for a writer to choose a Montblanc 149 over equally great workhorse instruments - a Pilot Custom 823 or a Lamy 2000 or a Pelikan M1000 - not necessarily to flaunt his flair for conspicuous consumption or to demean the other excellent options at hand, but owing to a preference peculiar to his own tastes.
