Not many directors use movies as a medium on their own. "Most" movies are meant to look like real life and a lot even tell real stories. Edgar Wright uses evey tool at his disposal to create something new, something that is not life like, something that could not be told the same way on the radio or in a book. He really makes unique movies. I respect him a lot for that. A lof of work goes into what he does. People may consider it silly sometimes but I personallly love it.
Great insight and you're right. The reason I love Edgar Wright is because he makes movies that have to be movies. The frame is a playground that he truly plays in.
But the key thing to me is, it's not *just* over-the-top and silly. What makes the silly stuff work is that it has heart. The style is always in service of the substance. At its core is a good story with relatable characters. No matter how OTT it gets, it's always grounded in something real, and indeed - despite the gore - wholesome.
It is so comforting and inspiring when you feel like you're not doing enough or anything at all, then you hear from the best and realize that you are on the right track 'cause you are doing the things they are saying to do!
Found this channel last year and has been one of my favorites ever since. This channel had made me love films even more and appreciate the art of filmmaking. It even came to the point that I even had to keep myself from blurting out trivias, facts, techniques, etc. from the movie that we are watching on movie nights. XD. I just want to say that whatever you are doing, keep it up StudioBinder. Thank you for producing such high-quality contents. Someone, like me, a high-school stident, learns from and appreciates this. Truly, this channel is a gold mine of quality content.
Love it when filmmakers rise from doing amateur films to feature films. Way to go Edgar!! Also liked when he mention about going into the editing room and just doing something.
An Edgar Wright video essay from this channel: awesome. I have been waiting for this video for a long time. Thank you studio binder for doing this video.
Something I see filmmakers say all the time is to just make things. Just get out there and do it. I think my fear of making something bad is what holds me back a lot, in all sorts of aspects of life really, so it's inspiring. I think Wright showing off his early stuff is massively helpful. Young directors who are making the same kind of slightly clumsy or "embarrassing" early work can see that it is all part of the process and not to be disheartened. If Edgar Wright, one of the world's greatest movie directors, made stuff like this at my age then I'm on the right track.
It makes so much sense that he made animation when he was younger. The way his movies are laid out, often giving stylishly shot frames to otherwise mundane set pieces like a door being locked, or a shoe being tied, is something I’ve only ever found in animation (particularly anime).
I’d love to see the illustrated storyboard version for Baby Driver! Edgar is one of my favourite directors along with David Fincher, they’re such individual voices in filmmaking.
Just realized that all these videos are actually content marketing for your company and tool... This is really content marketing done right! I have been learning a lot about metalanguage and technical choices, as a movie enthusiast not as a professional, from these videos! Keep the great work
Although I never heard of this director before but to sum up what I just watch in this video. He is one of legendary directors in the history of cinema P.S. Baby Driver is one of the movies that I like and I never thought that he was the one directing it. And it is a masterpiece❤❤❤
Yes Edgar Wright is in my top five favorite directors it’s Quentin Tarantino Robert Rodriguez and then Edgar Wright Then Alford Hitchcock Stanley Kubrick Steven Spielberg George Lucas Guy Ritchie JJ Abrams and so many more I love them all did you guys interview him? I love the show that Edgar right directed for the BBC with Simon Pegg And Nick frost Spaced. If you ever talk to Edgar Write tell him Anthony said hi even though he doesn’t know who I am and I am a big fan I would love to ask him a Question to what directors inspired him and how did he meet Simon Pegg?

YES EXACTLY that's what i love about him too!!!!!!!!!!
The distinct thing about Wright: every single detail matters a lot to the style of the movie.
True!
What TH-cam video did you copied that form
No, that's true for every good director. Wright is probably just the first director where you've noticed this.
Man, can't wait for _Last Night in Soho_ !
I'm gonna see it on opening night.
Excited to see it!
if covid ever ends

@@StudioBinder With Edgar Wright, it could hold till 2030.
I love editing style, and the short close ups, Baby Driver is so great with the mix of music and edition.
A true "action musical"

Edgar Wright is everything that is great in this life. His films are funny and clever.
As Wright says, his films are more like Valentines 👌
This is beautifully edited.
I never knew they drew the storyboards of Scott Pilgrim in the style of the comics. That's super cool.
He should direct a Batman or Superman movie
I've missed these director's chair videos. Thank you very much!
Not the last of them!
Thanks guys. You really listened.
This was easily the best video you ever made.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome and good to know I have hours of content that I have shot but still everyday is something new, thanks for this.

Now please make Edgar Wright's Directing Style.
We might in the future!
Please do talk about Zack Snyder he's an incredible director I wish to see his work presented by you I want his work to be explained
We need a video like this on Zack Snyder!!!
Exactly
These videos are a lot of work, so I hope Snyder is way at the back of the line for Studio Binder... Fairly one dimensional filmmaker.
Agreed
It's weird hearing him talk about Bournemouth when that's where I am right now, (going to the uni next door).
That intro is sick
Glad you like it!
Deffo in my top five directors. Deffo the best England has ever produced
You definitely need to make more videos on the Coen brothers
Love the Coens, we have 4 vids on them! th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=studiobinder+coen+brothers but let us know what else you'd like covered

Fistful of Fingers is fricking hilarious btw, to anyone who hasnt seen it.
PS: this deserves more views
Is it officially online or on disc, as I've only ever seen it for sale on VHS?
Feature Jordan Peele, Spike Lee, or Ryan Coogler
hope his new film doesn't sacrifice his filmmaking flair & unique style in pursuit of a darker tone
Guillermo del Toro next!!!
Please do a David Lynch one.
Looks like Edgar Wright subscribes to the "10,000 hours" philosophy.
He's definitely spent around that much time filmmaking!
Came from reddit
