I remember when I first saw news of this show around April fools day and I was convinced it was some sort of sick joke as it just seemed too good to be true. Having Elliot return to SVU would have been a dream but for him to be getting his own spin off show is beyond a dream. SO very excited to see where the show takes him, been talk of him returning after a loss in the family, which will be interesting. Also excited to see our long awaited Benson/Stabler reunion. For the long time fans of the show, like myself, that will be a big moment. Hopefully we will see some crossovers both big & small between SVU & Organised Crime over the season and hopefully subsequent seasons. Much like we see within Dick Wolf's One Chicago universe!
The fact that he is saying that Elliott is coming back to the NYPD and he is now in charge of his own unit suggests that he was away and potentially undercover. Which would make it easier to justify why he never got in touch.

Loved all the Law And Order shows, loved SVU. But after he left that show it was honestly just ahhhhh. The writing just didn't seem the same and it felt like they were slowly but surely making it the Mariska show. If its not broke don't fix it. It's just not the same anymore, at least Ice-T is still there. The show was the old squad, this is a different show all together. But I'll definitely watch if he came back. I do dig the cross-over episodes onto Chicago PD though.
Agreed with you saying it’s the Olivia benson show they probably made it this way because back then Olivia and Stabler wasn’t in every episode and she’s the only one now with a new cast it wouldn’t hit and plus new writers and directors the show wouldn’t been the same if Chris was still on it,different era people don’t like when shows staying the same,even shows they bring back aren’t the same,most shows aren’t the same with the same characters either,even with grey anatomy’s y’all said when Derek left everything changed. Different cast different writers so of course it’s not the same.Olivia was the girl star. And she came up with stabler.If mariska have left instead of Chris y’all would’ve said the same thing cause Jennifer love Hewitt was supposed to take her spot in 2011 and olivia character has the biggest impact on the show. Especially for rape victims ,Stabler was nothing but an angry cop that beats on perps. Elliott character was getting boring in season 11 and 12 And there’s a reason why mariska hargitay got nominated for emmys and golden globe and won and there’s a reason why it’s the longest tv drama show now and people like it now especially the new watchers. And a lot of people think Elliott character shouldn’t come back.and people say that Christopher Meloni is a racist and homophobic. More women/black women/rape victim/lgbt/men/ and kids can relate to liv character. Nick Amaro was better though.
