  • Building a simple ball joint assembly with the A2+ Workbench and Part Workbench. We use FreeCAD 0.18 / 0.19 or above to create a very rudimentary mechanical ball joint which allows us to explore how we can create an assembly for two bearings and link arms so the ball joints work together in a simple CAD mechanical simulation

Awesome video! This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work, your page is the best free cad resource on the internet.

Nice! Simple but useful! but do you have a macro or anything that could move it by itself?

Thank you. I don't have a macro for movement but I am thinking of doing a follow up tutorial to simulate a bumpy road. I am trying to introduce some more full assemblies this year.

Did you do the better looking ball joint design video yet?

Have to apologise, I thought I already did this. I remember making one but I can't of uploaded it. It must be on my other hard drive. Need to find that, if not I will make another.

@@MangoJellySolutions this video inspired me to make a rose joint using A2plus but I can stop the ball rotating to invalid positions, there's a program called mbdyn that can do proper simulations but I just wish there was a way to do assemblies with collision detection

@@bilaltariq7819 I been tying to solve this problem with the rotation. The nearest I have got is to constrain a single vertex on the tip of a bearing to a plane that sits above it. Setting the plane to fixed = true and then making the plane invisible. This restrict that vertex along the plane but doesn't solve the issue as you you can't get right to the edges of the hole where the bearing sits. Really racking my brains with this one. Tried everything that I can think of. So frustrating.

How Did you find the ball joint constraint on A4?

I'm using the A2 Plus workbench. Both workbench work in different ways and take different approaches. It's confusing as they are two seperate developments
