Let’s rewind to the era where Em first started. Rap music was dominated by content about bitches, drugs, gangs, money, cars, and guns. Eminem came on the scene and took an entirely different approach - something completely unique... A creative storytelling style similar to movie writers. Some of it was inspired by real life, and some of it was fiction. And he didn’t stick to just one genre, he brought it with comedy (including the self deprecating approach), with horror (serial killers, etc) , and with drama (his upbringing and challenges). So of course he didn’t resonate with the average rap listener. He didn’t rap about what people were accustomed to hearing rappers rap about. But what it did do was expand the boundaries of rap both geographically and content-wise. He literally helped make rap bigger, literally and figuratively.

    • @sasasundic3236
      @sasasundic3236 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Fact's. For example the part of the world where I live, before Eminem came out we knew about Pac,Wu tang ang Biggie, that's it,and they all we're making the song's about hoes, cars,drugs... Same content. But when Eminem came out people connected with his song's,some people find themselves in it and we all start to listen him,and then we start to search another rappers from America and bring the rap to whole different level. And that's how it happened all over the world, rappers became idols and then came much more money, respect, power and everything.

What songs of his does he really do storytelling in tho? That’s my one knock on Eminem. He’s not as descriptive and poetic as someone like Nas, who I think is the greatest emcee to do it

@@sumwonkool Love it or hate it my underdog's on top. Every song that he wants to be is storytelling. How can people connect with his song's if it's not storytelling, and (world started to connect with rap when he came)if they can't relate to something on their own. He's one of the 3 and that's just fact's. It has a lot of racist that don't love him because of colour. Imagine if white people don't listen and love Kendrick, Bysta,Snoop,Wayne,50,Nas... How would they be so rich and powerful. Like 50 said there's no Lamborghini s and Ferrari s to buy without consumer base. Em is top 5 of almost every aspect of hip hop game and there's no one who is top 5 in every aspects exept him.Rakim is really one the pioneer's and one of the greatest and "If Em was black he would be the next Mohammed Ali".-Rakim.

There are so many categories of rap.
We have the lyricists like Black Thought, Aesop Rock, Rakim and Em sits on the mountain top with the best of the best.
We have fast rappers like Twista, Krayzie Bone, Tech9 and Em killed Tech on Speedom.
We have technical attacks were I have yet to see anyone doing something that comes close to the ludacris stuff Em does.
We have MCing which the 2 best to ever do it are probably DMX and Busta but Em really has the crowd going crazy every time he comes on stage.
Storytelling, Horror core, paying homage, hoping on features with the greatest at that time and even political stuff. He did it all and he did it at the highest level.
Ofc he never did the hustle style or did a lot of club bangers because its not his thing. But in the things he did he stood out. He is the GOAT if we look at it objectively.
Even when it comes to influence hes probably the second biggest influence in HipHop after Pac because he brought the whole world in. He doesn't have to be your favourite but put respect on the effort this man puts into his craft.

He will always be the greatest of all time because he managed to blur the lines between meaningful storytelling and spitting a verse that makes you go "damn" and somehow every word of his is both of those things at the same time. He was just a man who wanted to tell a story and he found what he was the best at, and he used it to tell his story. I think a very unique and good example of his capabilities is a song called Ridaz. Not sure if you know of it but he describes a bar fight. Please check it out. Listening to it makes you understand that this is not just rap. This is a story, its like listening to a ballad like Saddle Tramp or Big Iron by Marty Robbins but very very well written (no offence to Marty Robbins). The competence of this man to uphold every principle of the rap culture, every principle of a good storytelling according to literature, and coming up with the best of stories that may or may not be inspired from his own life, THAT is what makes you wait for what he has to say. You WANT to listen to a good story and you know that you are about to witness one of the greatest storytellers of all time work his magic.

Great take my brotha. I'm 39 years of age from one of the hugest hip hop influenced cities, Houston Texas. I started listening to EM in middle school, with the drop of Slim Shady LP after "My Name Is". I immediately gravitated towards his unique rhyme style in the realm of multisyllabic rapping. In Houston, that concept was never explored to that degree. We used to beat on classroom and lunchroom tables with a pen and or pencil mimicking our favorite song instrumentals whilst freestyling in a group, going "back doo". So learning the intricacies of word play was presented at a young age. Whenever I used to revere Eminem as the CURRENT "best" in that regard at the time, people thought I was crazy because of our cities cultureof music. But after album after album (regardless of the content being produced) he has remained amongst the top in the realm of hip hop, not just multisyllabic rhyming, but double, triple and even quadruple entendres. It's impossible to deny that his rhyming scheme is short of anything AMAZING. Whatever the skin color or ethnicity he has proven himself standout above the crowd. Hip hop oriented on LYRICISM. That form has been lost. Sells, popularity, streams are irrelevant when it comes down to the true form of the ORIGINAL art. I appreciate your take on this and am now subscribed to your channel good sir. 💪🏾 long post... OVER.

As a die hard fan & student of hip hop for over 30 years I do think Eminem is one of the greatest ever, he may not be the Goat tho imo. To me he is not a gifted storyteller or poet much like Nas is. Nas can paint pictures with his words so eloquently and has been doing it since the early 90s. His first two albums are some of the greatest masterpieces in hip hop history. So in my humble opinion I think Nas is the GOAT. Followed closely behind him is Eminem, Rakim, Black Thought, GZA, Mos Def, Guru from Gangstarr, Slug from Atmosphere, and of course 2pac. And a personal white rapper favorite of mine who could challenge Em I think is RA the Rugged Man. He is a gifted lyricist, punchline master and d storyteller. If you haven’t heard his last two albums you are really missing out on one of the greatest rappers all time, underground or not he’s up there with those I mentioned. Great video tho, Peace and love

Eminem IS A GOAT....but he's not THE GOAT.
I'm not sure who the goat is...and I'm really not sure anyone is the #1 goat.
Also, Eminem is too busy playing massive arenas and getting radio play...the club scene is small for Eminem...and they do play his music in the clubs so i never got why people said they dont play him in clubs.
I love your take and I agree. I just honestly feel that people have too many different preferences so it's very hard to say there's one goat. I think there's a handful of goats in hipop/rap based off the subgenre.... Eminem could be the goat of his certain styles...but Kendrick could be the goat of his styles... same with Wayne and more. Eminem I believe is the highest selling rapper of all time...ever over Tupac and biggie...but I can't personally say he's the goat of hiphop because there are too many different sub genres where others won't place Eminem as a goat. For example...who's better in the Chicago drill scene...King Von(rip) ...fbg duck.. or eminem? The styles are so different that eminem is definitely not a goat in the drill scene.
Eminem is a goat in multiple sub genres of hiphop...and just maybe it makes him the actual goat of goats...but its impossible to prove since sooooo many people have different tastes

Even though technical skills aren't the end all be all, that should still be part of the conversation. Eminem is the best, technically. But he also is one of the best story tellers. He also has some of the most creative concepts. He never pretended to be gangsta to fit in and ended up carving his own lane because his artistry wasn't like anyone else's.
The love he has for the culture is UNDENIABLE. His skin color should be irrelevant. He shows nothing but respect for those that paved the way AND his peers (I feel like a lot of people miss that part). The fact that people still try to label him a "culture vulture" is the dumbest shit.
And, for better or worse, he's had the greatest influence. Without Em, we don't get Kendrick, Big Sean, Logic, Hopsin, and arguably 50 Cent or Royce

  • @EfonEkpo

Eminem is in my top 20 of all time as an artist.
However, if I based that on skills alone, he'd easily be in my top 5. He's a monster.
Now you'd wonder if I contradicted myself. Nope. Skills alone isn't the only criteria I use to judge an artist.
An artist with skill level A that only raps about a few things for example, doesn't rank as high as one of skill level B that touches a whole range of issues in meaningful depth.
Also, the style I respect the most has to be one that I could listen to when I'm like 80 years old. I.e one that sounds very mature.
To summarize; Eminem is in my top 5, if not top 3 in terms of putting words together in a clever manner.
Overall, he's in my top 20 and at times I put pressure on myself to include him in my top 10 just cause of that high skill level.
Whenever he drops, I listen to Eminem for signs that his style has evolved into something very mature. If that evolution ever takes place and he drops a few albums with it, I'd easily have him in my top 5 if not number 1.

Eminem is one of the greatest because he looks at rapping like it's a martial art. Like how Ip man looks at wing Chun or Bruce Lee Jeet kune do . Rapping is a direct reflect of how one's brain is wired. That's why ghostwriting is severely frowned upon in Rapping. That's why Eminem will always be one of the greatest because he sees rapping for what it is. A martial art of the mentality. And make no mistake,he is a 5th degree. black belt.

    Its a culmination of things.
Sales, skills/technicalities, body of work, longevity and influence are great indicators of greatness which Em is at the very top of every one of those aspects.
People make the excuse that he's white, and thats the only reason he is popular have a huge flaw in their argument. If that were the case, every white rapper would be considerd a GOAT.
The only reason they can't put him at the undisputed GOAT position is because he isn't black. The so called culture cant accept a white man being the best at the genre they say they created.
