I was lucky enough to be born in the mid 40's, so I was old enough to go to the local dances and actually dance to the Chantel's beautiful songs when they were released. They were simply outstanding with their beautiful melodies and with that gorgeous high harmony they used. Their music still sounds gorgeous even today, over 60 years later. It's a sin that the Chantels are still not in the Rock n'Roll Hall of Fame, and my favorite tune of theirs is the lesser known "I'm Confessing That I Love You" originally written in 1929. They were without doubt the first of the truly outstanding girl groups.
Love The Chantels!!! “One Of The Best Female Groups Ever,” made BEAUTIFUL MUSIC, with such Lovely voices. My favorite songs by The Chantels are, Maybe, Look In My Eyes, Every Night, and Don’t Believe Him Donna, The Chantels and The Jive Five did together. Yes, The Chantels Deserve to be inducted into The Hall Of Fame!!!!🎼🎼🎤🎤🎹🎹💿💿
They should of been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame when it first started. My favorite song is I Love You So. Great group, did not realize that they had other songs besides the Jukebox album that you showed. Thanks.
Among my favorite girl groups. True pioneers.....!❤ Love them on my preferred format, 78 r.p.m. Their records have "that" soulful, spacial quality. Fantastic engineering. Love those rock & roll 78 rpm disc's! Ooooooooo..... ❤
In the early 80's I had the distinct privilege of helping Izzy Flores from Milford, Connecticut put on a Doo-wop extravaganza at the Teletrack in New Haven, Connecticut. Arlene Smith was one of the headliners... I have to tell you, if God ever loses the blueprint for an angel he's always got Arlene Smith. Doo-wop Dwight. Bridgeport, Connecticut Home of The Carnations and Long Tall Girl... Good stuff, thanks for posting😊😊😊
Love the ❤ Chantels what beautiful voices and harmony those girls had , and yes they need to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Arlene voice is a gift 🎁 and a treasure. Awesome girl group . Love them.
I Remember the 3 Degrees singing/recording the song (Maybe) But If thinking correctly the Chantels did their version of the same song. And if I'm right that was my favorite song by them.
The Chantels in my opinion the best female vocalist ever since they came on the scene in the late fifties. There have been some very talented singing groups like the Supremes the Emotions and the Three Degrees but if I had to choose the female group of all times I couldn't say because there are three groups I have to mention Andrew Sisters The Chantels and the Pointer sisters
@@michaelmitchell5098 oh man that’s a bad ass song. I could listen to their music for days. The way they coordinated and arranged their songs was amazingly beautiful. Truly one of the most underrated and best musical groups of all time. Timeless classic
FYI Before the Chantels there were the Hearts and the Joytones. Both put out records before The Chantels. The Joytones were on the same label as the Chantels but a year earlier. The Three Degrees and Chantels put out Maybe. The link there was manager and producer for both Richard Barrett.
@@williamgriffin2132 actually the question was answered in the content but I was curious because when the girls performed “Maybe” in February of 1958 there were only 4 girls but the original album cover of “We Are The Chantel” featured 5.
The group had five girls in it. But the parents of one of the girls didn't let her participate in certain functions (picture day or performances) because she wanted her to graduate on time. Also after they started recording they went to performing arts school so they could perform and still keep grades up.
The Cookies that were referenced here were Ray Charles back ground singers. There big hit was "In Paradise" 1956. The group had personnel changes and later recorded "Chains" in 1962.

Never heard of them before but you've turned me onto another wonderful group. Thanks for the research!
I have never heard of this female group, but they do sound good. I Love learning about artists that people barely discuss, keep up the good work!!
First time hearing The Chantels. Going to stream their music.
New subscriber! Thank you for this video.

You are correct! The 3 Degrees' version is definitely a slow jam!

The Shirells was the first to sell over a million, not the 1st female group. I ❤ all!😊

Yes of course they deserve it to get inducted to the hall of fame
4 girls are named but on some album covers and publicity photos there are 5 girls. What am I missing?
Check out @6:10
One of them had left the group when the pitcher was taken

Maybe
oh this was my grama era she over 90 years old.
Interesting on how many of their records George Goldner and Richard Barrett ripped off the composing rights...
Ami Ortiz gave Arlene a rum for her money, she joined the group late but has a beautiful voice
Sequins and the crows?😊
Don’t overlook the Bobbetes
I love their song, "Mr. Lee".
Why Don’t You Say What You Want . Great song. Also Indian Giver. I am sure The Shangri-las were influenced by The Chantells
Who are the Cookies
"Chains" written by Carole King and recorded in 1962, a year before the Beatles did it.
The Cookies that were referenced here were Ray Charles back ground singers. There big hit was "In Paradise" 1956.
The group had personnel changes and later recorded "Chains" in 1962.
Grow up on the Channels in philly 1965.
