The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V has one heck of a model name, but it's also known as Sony's top-of-the-line Super Zoom digital camera. The biggest question for me was whether or not the HX200V was superior to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150, my current Super Zoom top pick. Well, it was a close battle, but there could only be one victor. Lets see which one prevailed. Full review: tchno.be/ScaI1n

I have had this camera for over a year now and i absolutely love it! Its a perfect camera for novices or people interested in one day handling a full dslr. For a point and shoot you can't get much better than the quality and numerous amount of auto and manual features. All around great camera :)
Malee Rowell I can not get the video to get on the sd card
Hey I'm new and curious, planning to buy a camera soon. Is this camera meant for good quality photo shoots? Good battery and good lighting adjustment?
@@vestratproductions9445 Did you ever figure it out?
@@gangstalkingchronicles6949 no I did not I just gave up
@@vestratproductions9445 Sorry to hear that. I ask because I had that problem but it remedied itself a day or so after I got it and ever since it has been fine. I can honestly say this is my favorite camera I have owned so far. Thanks for replying.
Well, it's nine years later and I'm considering buying gently used HX200V for $160 delivered. I've already got some decent cameras, but none of them have GPS, which is why I'm looking at this one.
EDIT: I bought it in June 2021, when it was more than a decade old. Couldn't care less about its video functionality, I'll probably never use that since I have a great (IMO) camcorder.
Had the the HX200V for more than a year and think I'll be using it until it's 20 years old...if I live that long!
Love this camera, have had it since May, and it is amazing
It's not a real issue, but RAW is especially good when you don't get the exposure or white balance as accurate as you want them at the moment you take the photo, so you can edit the RAW file later to correct these and get the best out of it (all of this because it stores much more tones than a JEPG). Anyway, you will get nice images from JPEG's if you try to do it as right as possible in-camera.
Hope it helped ;)
I have this camera and I must say its pretty impressive. As he said in the video the image colour is a bit on the cool side but the video recording on this bad boy is amazing! If you get a DSLR stabilizer (even though this camera has built in video stabilization) and record and Full HD 28mbps this will produce near movie like images! Truly amazing! But it does eat you SD memory is minutes. Only drawback is the slight motor noise you hear when recording!
Pretty good review. I noticed the specs on this camera and what impressed me was the fact that it has a good sized CMOS sensor and the ability to video in 1080@60 which is good.
Although your comment about ( " A SOCCER MOM CAMERA " ) would honestly hinders from any actual truth in my personal opinion. The fixed lens isnt an issue for the most part.
and it seems that a current price tag from $300+u.s.d. refurbished and $450 u.s.d. -/+ makes this camera seem a bit expensive for the most part.
Has built in stereo mics, but no jack to hook up something like a wireless microphone for more professional sounding video productions, also no headphone jack and no hotshoe.
Thanks for the review i got this camera from my grandpa (old camera) and i am trying to learn how to use it properly and make the best out of it i will into futher guilds since i don't have its manual
I love how personal your reviews are
I was deciding between Nikkon P510 and Sony Hx200v. You helped me made up my mind. I am going for Sony. Thanks dude!
this review was sooo helpful - i feel this is the one i want now - now is the winter of our discontent.
Have been waiting for this camera review for sooooo long...
Still have thia camera since 2012 and i still use as a main😎😂
this is one of the great video of you and i like it better, how you explain the difference in cameras, thank you man
very good review! finally I found one full review about this camera...
Lumix F200.. ;) depends what you want it for.. I had the cannon SH50 HS and gave it away to a friend. Still an excellent camera. I now own this Sony and the Panasonic Lumix F200, both are great, I use the F200 for filming music videos as I liked the video quality over the Canon and I can use a pro microphone with it. I bought the Sony for my 76 year old father to use, he loves it. The Canon has the huge zoom but I found I didnt use or need it as much so the Canon was the one to go.
Your reviews are great.....great sense of humour too. Keep up the good work.
Anybody can help how to clean the lense same model i have
First of all the Nikon D3100 is DSLR while the HX200V is a DSLR-like camera. The only difference is that the D3100 has a larger sensor and shoots 24p(film look). As mentioned the D3100 is DSLR so you can interchange the lens which might add up a little in your budget. But if you want an all-in-one camera, ready to explore photography GO FOR THE HX200V and its a great camera ! Good Luck.
Shortly after I got this camera (years back) it started the "turn power off then back on again" (a week or so after I got it) (the lens seems to completely retract, etc). After not being able to resolve it, I got another make / model / brand camera ). I just found it again and figured I would see if a solution had been found yet, still looking.
Go for a Panasonic F200, you can add an external mic and video quality is excellent.
the zoom capability in those bridge cameras is insane, if simply they decide to bring Super Zoom to smartphones that would be the best of both worlds.
Now look at the future my man 9 years
well, in terms of manual function vs automatic focus and everything, yeah, the fz150 is more for advanced users. but if you don't have as much dslr experience, then the hx200v might be easier to navigate.
Should I trade my Pentax K-X for this?
I have the HX200 and its amazing. I dont know what the specs of the panasonic are but you cant beat 18.2mp and Full HD 28mbps video recording! And its Sony so you know its going to last years!
Thanks for the review : if u r a beginner which one would u choose :
the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V OR the CANON Power Shot SX50 HS.
Many Thanks in advance.
You're welcome :)
It's an AWESOME camera, you will no regret it.
The list of features is really wide and complete, the control that you have is, indeed, one of the best I've ever seen.
It's an outstanding semi professional camera. If you want to start experimenting in photography and your budget isn't enough for a Sony Alpha, then you need to consider this beauty.
Feel free to write me.
This guys reviews are awesome
How much does it cost!
It might be. I've never been able to find the manual exposure for video mode on it.
Lol bro said soccer mom cam 😂😂
My parents just bought this for my 4 year old sisters birthday (tommorow) it's incredible!!!!!!
thanks, something i wanted on it :/ but oh well actually purchasesd this camera online gonna go pick it up tomorrow so excited :) hope it does me well
I have had this camera for years and it has been great.....but
recently it has started rebooting. Occasionally at first but now if there is a battery in it, or even with no battery but connected to the charger, it goes through a constant reboot cycle, powering off and rebooting every 13 seconds (approx)
Any ideas anyone?
Hey Mr Rettinger, or whoever is running this thing, a camera review playlist would be real handy.
The Leica is mixed in all of the deparments. Let's be honest, it's just a replica of the Panasonic FZ-150, and the only thing they changed was the exterior, because the rest of it is middle quality to low. Yes, it has RAW format, but the quality is poor. The sensor seems to take the exact same pictures as their cameras did years ago. Even with two year warranty doesn’t make it. The DMC, as this one, has lower ISO sensitivity, lower MPX and lower fps than the Sony, so I think it's pretty clear :)
ya me too...thats why if u want to buy a camera you have to see all the choices of the same price and chose on the best one :)
Just got this camera for 20 bucks at good will. :)
How well did it do
would you recommend this for wildlife photography or would the HX30V do just as good for moving animals ?
yea thats also a pretty good choice it has some differences but overall it should be a good
Thanks , really appreciate it.
Hello! I have this camera and the USB port isn't working anymore. I already tried 3 different USB cables and they all work with other things except for my camera and I also tried connecting it to different adapters and it still isn't charging. I can't transfer the files now cause the memory card isn't working when I connect it directly to a computer and I can only transfer files through USB. What should I do?
Hx200v I'd say. i tried both out for about a week each and have to say that the HX200V is better with a lot of things. Plus, this guy seems a little biased against this camera, as he always compares it to the FZ150.
which one would be the best buy...... sony hx200v, nikon p510, canon sx40 or canon sx50 on the basis of features and picture quality???
Wow i literally just got finished looking at this camera on amazon.
This camera the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V has 20mp while the Nikon Coolpix L820 has only 16mp. I wanted the Nikon first because it's cheaper but my friend's a photographer and she said that 16mp isn't very good so I looked up and found out that it wasn't much different to my phone which is only 5mp... I'm trying to convince my Brother to gimme some money for a trade :) xx Overall I think Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V is the best one. :)
Does it have a good mic?
Did you say that you are limited in manual mode and video mode or manual mode IN video mode?
I'm a beginner, and this looks good. Plus, if I see a nice car on the streets, I don't have to switch in between my crap digital and my camcorder D
would you recommend this to someone just starting out on a low budget?
$150 on amazon right now, panasonic fz150 over $500
It is HX100v! I got one,and it is all the same as you are reviewing.
Hi IImazda. I don't understand your message very well, but I can assume that you wanna to do a book of photos to your daughter. The principle differences between your camera and the HX200V are the following: The optical zoom, the quality in the video as well as the resolution of it, the battery life, the shooting modes, the F number, the AF speed, the sensor, the lens, the ISO sensitivity, the shutter speed... There are a lot, but your camera is still a great camera for your objective ;)
Had this camera but sold it and waiting for the replacement for the Sony NEX 5N. The 200 had great features but was really let down by the over processed images resulting is bad noise and grain :(
Hi,
I am thinking to pick up this camera this month. I am a frequent traveler and want to take some decent pictures with it when travelling, and want it for that purpose.
Also, I can't get a DLSR because it is way too pricey as well as I have NO knowledge of manual controls at all.
Will it suit my needs?
...because I am just an amateur photographer and the new model will cost much more than I am willing to pay. Hx200v is good enough. In fact its much better than any other cameras Ive owned in the past.
Where does the Fujifilm FinePix HS30 EXR fit between all of the mentioned cameras at the end of this video?
yea its a great camera I have been using it and so far its great. It is very easy to use. You should check Best Buys website out they are having a sale on it maybe you might want to buy it.
So i want to film myself skateboarding and was wondering if this would be good for it and of course video reviews.
Great cameras indeed, but after comparing them I will stick to Sony. For example, the HS30EXR can't handle the noise at all at 800 ISO or higher. The P510 is great and the zoom is a little better (1000mm equivalent) but the quality of the pictures is kinda mixed. And for the SX40, all I can say is yeah, great, but meeeh...
Trust me, you will be pleased with the HX200V.
And again, feel free to write me.
Coming up soon.
I really start to think if i must buy this camera, when i see reviews like this im more convinced to buy it, i think is perfectly for an amateur like me lol
Good luck with the A37, all of these cameras will do a great job for what you want.
I've got this camera, it's very good but can't find the "Burst shooting" mode in the menu, where is it located
Can you switch the objective and can you make a foto in a video like the DSC-HX20V?
the zoom is too good.. it gets way to close to my girlfriends face. i can't deal with it
this is an extremely underrated comment
I like this review. Respect
what is the battery life like?
And is it easy to change to shutter speed (if you can)!
which is better? sony cybershot dsc-hx200v or panasonic dmc-fz150k
Wait so if I like to film videos for TH-cam, should I go with the Panasonic since it has RAW? Or is this one still okay?
how did you get the flash to pop up?
How does the Sony HX200v compare to the F2.8 Panasonic FZ200? a trade of between a 600mm vs 800mm but is the Panasonic not worth it for the F 2.8 throughout the focal length ? Now a HX300v is coming out but 2.8-5.6 50x zoom or 1200mm - going to be a tough decision as I like Sony and now greater zoom - but lens not as fast.
What camera would you recommend for taking product photography for like ebay and stuff for under $200???
whats better for video quality? sony hx200v or panasonic fz150? really need some help!
Incredible Work 👍
the image you see is from 2:53
I doubt that. As long as the battery last, that could be up to almost 4 hours.
Is the video on this better than the Panasonic?
Can I use this camera to take picture of stars? when it's super pitch black out... like in the desert.
Does mike have his own channel or just technobuffalo?
I just purchased this camera; where can I get a cover lens like the one you have in the video? I'm checking Amazon but I'm only seeing Lens for it rather than Lens cover.
we are looking for a good camera to film skateboarding. we want something with the option to shoot in high speed mode, a 1080p video, a nice wide zoom, a nice stable video, and of corse we would like it to be affordable. currently we are rocking the nikon coolpix p510 and we are very pleased with that camera. although while shooting in high speed the picture quality is not very good. we want to get another camera to add to our collection to improve our videos. any help is much appreciated.
How did you get it to record in black & white with the red effect at 6:24?
If I'm an amateur is it really important if the camera doesn't take raw pictures??
I have a question how to record while taking a picture at the same time
Ya I'm glad I have it
Nikon P510, Canon SX50 and Sony HX200V. Which one is better? cause the prices are all very close.
I don't really know what is causing you that, but that never happened in any other HX200V. I have videos bigger than 20 minutes from the HX200V so, nop, it isn't true that are limited only to 10 minutes of video.
Don't get me wrong, but how much space do you have in your sdhc? Because depending on your capacity and the format you choose, the lenght of the video vary, but again, YOU CAN record more than 10 minutes of video.
can you please do a review on the panasonic fz200
do you have any reviews on sony nex series? :)
I wish I could get one for Christmas in 2010
Would this be good for youtube videos ? Like movie reviews
Lol, The person at 1:18 with the fern knocking over the bottle.
Should I get this or the Nikon Coolpix P520?
3:17 how did you draw all that in 3 seconds?
feel like this guy is just trying to sell the Panasonic >:(
Is the image quality decent?
I have the Sony HX100V not the 200v and its basicly the same camera with some minor differences
Sorry for the late response Balica. Let me check that out tomorrow and I'll tell you what we can do, but I tell you this, it's weird.
Thanks for the kind words LGvideos100.
I just sent you a private message because of the length of the answer. Feel free to ask me again.
