      Hi Terry, cucumbers were my nemesis but I think I’ve got them sorted now. I germinate the seed at 20-25C. Some took over 10 days to show and only water from the bottom. In early days I did have lots damp off but now I remove the top cover ASAP

    Hi Nigel
    Now that was a great tour of you allotment and home garden.
    I do not know what I would do without my automatic watering system for my hanging baskets and my quod grows for the tomatoes and chillis.
    Take care mate.

    Hello Nigel.
    You have certainly got a productive plot. The greenhouse is bursting at the seams, magnificent crop of cucumber.
    The home garden is looking very neat and colour full.
    Excellent tour.
    Take care, keep safe and keep smiling. Cheers. Pete.

    Never had success growing aubergines outside. Limited success under a polythene low tunnel and in my main poly tunnel, but very successful in the greenhouse. I think you need a bigger pot. I grow mine up strings, sideshooting the same as my tomatoes.

    Great tour Nigel, shame you missed your broccoli, it must have waited for you to go away! My main apple tree has done the same as your pear tree, lots of blossom but very little fruit. Your cucumber plants are really doing well. I am wondering about getting rid of the bed in my greenhouse and investing in some quad grows instead 🤔 Might put my mind at rest when I'm away. Take care 😊

    Hello Nigel I've got to say thank you for introducing me to the Mini Munch variety of cucumbers.
    It's the first time I've grown them this year & by 'eck they're prolific producers alright,
    I've had an enormous harvest of them already from three plants & they're lovely eating too. Will definitely be growing them from now on.🙂

    Hello mate the straw on top of the potato buckets could be sucking in the nitrogen out of the compost in the bucket. We have this happen when we grow wheat and we chop the straw and plough it in. I’m getting jealous with your parsnips. I forgot to put mine in. All looking good mate hope all the rain we are having doesn’t damage your crocs . All the best, Nic 👍

    • @MuddyBootz
      @MuddyBootz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, I use straw on top of the spuds every year and never had any problems. It just lies on the top and is not rooted. It is sterile animal bedding that I got from the pet shop. The wheat has rooted down so it could be that???

    Hi Nigel, I have a pear tree that has never flowered, its about 4yrs old, what do you suggest I do to get it producing?
    Nice tour around, lovely delphiniums, mine just get eaten.

    • @MuddyBootz
      @MuddyBootz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Give it another couple of years. I had a Conference Pear in my garden. Took 6 years to fruit and then had to dig it out when building work was done 😖. Also what variety is it??? It may need a pollinator tree nearby

    • @hevchip741
      @hevchip741 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuddyBootz I'm not sure what variety it is but it has never flowered, the leaves are very light in colour, almost yellow, then get eaten and turn brown. What do you suggest I feed it with? I give blood, fish and bone but maybe that's not what it needs.

    Hi Nigel…plot is looking great & I’m always envious of your brassica growing. Someone locally is selling mushroom compost at a very reasonable price but I’ve never used. Quite a few of my beds need topping up & I wasn’t sure whether to invest in this or just use some horse manure mixed with shop bought compost?? My plot has clubroot & I’d read mushroom compost might help?? Thanks in advance. 😊

    • @MuddyBootz
      @MuddyBootz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mushroom compost is good , but you may get the odd one or two pop up in the soil.. but that’s no problem
      For clubroot treatment, try adding garden lime as a top dressing in Feb/March to the brassica bed and allow the rain to wash in. Do not add manure and lime at the same time as they fight each other (opposite ends of pH scale) also add some garden lime to planting hole when final planting the plants. There is a product called PERLKA which you top dress the soil and this is good barrier against clubroot 😊

    • @vanessawilkinson7089
      @vanessawilkinson7089 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuddyBootz thanks Nigel. Think I’ll get some of the mushroom compost to use as a top up mulch where the beds have dropped (£10 for 150L seems too good an offer). I do use lime in the hole and root when planting bit will look to dress in the new year & read up on Perlka. Perhaps some resistant varieties too. Thanks again.
