Idk what's worse anymore AEW or WWE because they try to do whatever is it they come up but sometimes they somehow do it way worse than the other. Take the handcuffs for example WWE botched Roman Reigns getting him off the handcuffs and i forget wearing an aw did a handcuff match or something like that idea from them. XD

@@jamied4486 Yeah, the current state of the business sucks thanks to the bad & illogical booking of the talent by BOTH Vince & $ mark Khan.
Okay so just to clear some things up. The promotion is called Gatoh Move (for the shows with crowds) and the live TH-cam shows are called ChocoPro.
There isn't anything sexual about it (quite the opposite honestly), its just a really small promotion that wrestles in a small building in Tokyo with no ring, good wrestling and some comedy/fun elements, but they do use the space creatively. It is often quite wholesome. They also have had several live shows in rings at Shinkiba 1st Ring in Tokyo.
The wrestlers Emi Sakura and Mei Suruga from the AEW womens tournament come from there, and Riho too (its why her Twitter handle has gtmv in it for Gatoh Move). The roster is quite young into their careers with most at about a year and a half of experience. Mei in particular, entering her 3rd year, is a very promising talent and is also wrestling in TJPW.
They've had a lot of good guests on the shows like Minoru Suzuki, and Aja Kong is appearing this weekend. It's definitely not for everyone, and I don't think there will be a ton of crossover between Cornette's audience and fans of niche Japanese wrestling. But if it does interest you, I think you'd be surprised at the quality of the wrestling, even if the setting is a bit jarring at first.

I actually have some history about the promotion. Emi left her former wrestling school and promotion to set up her own in Thailand with a guy who did play-by-play for Thai TV.
Once it started getting traction she got pissed off and quit that to set up her stuff back in Japan inside an old dentist's office. The guy in Thailand is actually a pretty respectful promoter and booker and should get more respect for having to put up with Emi.

It's more like a poor training facility with mats and so like e.g. FCW (I heard it was very poor there with no bathroom etc.), just that they stream it on TH-cam and do some other stuff besides the wrestling training like cooking etc.; the fact that their matches do count in actual internet wrestling databases is weird to me, too ... because I didn't know backyard wrestling is official stuff.

If I recall correctly, the promotion running these matches (Gatoh Move) doesn't have constant access to a ring currently. It's not very salacious at all. They just do a wrestling match on some yoga pads (?) in an empty room. There is no sexual content among the matches I saw unless you inherently think any woman doing anything is sexual. It's not very interesting either. Pretty standard Japanese comedy wrestling for the most part.

Gatoh Move/Choco Pro actually used to look like MORE of a snuff film/fetish movie when it first started, believe it or not. They've got a budget now! 😂😂
I had hundreds of wrestling magazines as a kid. From the age of 5 on. PWI, Inside Wrestling and pretty much all the magazines from that publishing company. Totally remember the apartment house wrestling! Think I still have some of the magazines. So stupid it was funny looking back on it.

I've never seen so many weird comments on a single youtube video. Liger is another wrestler I've seen dozens to hundreds of times and don't recall anything of that sort.

That Joshi stuff needs to be homed in for an American audience. It took awhile for the US fans to accept the Lucha Libre style.
@Aaron Lassiter Its not but a few Lucha stars have gotten over with an Americanized version of that style. I think it'd probably be pretty easy for Joshi wrestlers to get over if they tailored their work a bit closer to what American audiences are used to
It's the reason Lucha underground is no longer a thing even if it was on the El Rey Network it's still couldn't make it here in America

Technically, Gatoh Move isn't the same as Theo Ehret. American Apartment wrestling in the 70s was essentially porn, little different than Ultimate Surrender. The women were usually naked or in bra and panties and they were posing, not wrestling.
Gatoh Move is wrestling on a flatspace (a mat). The room it takes place in looks like a kindergarten classroom. The girls were wrestling like wrestlers but there's no ropes. Its also a joke, meaning it's intentionally silly. There's nothing sexy about it, just friends goofing around on a mat.
But its clearly bullshit.

I'll admit to being a long time joshi wrestling fan and a lot of this stuff really embarrasses me as well. I want to see wrestlers like Arisa Hoshiki, Miyu Yamashita, Syuri, Maya Yukihi, Sonoko Kato, and Akino kick heads off and have to wade through a lot of nonsense to see it.
As for Chocopro: I'm not even a stern traditionalist, but I need for there to at least be a goddamn ring at a wrestling event. The sad thing is Emi Sakura was (at one time) one of the most talented female wrestlers in the world, but her sensibilities are completely insane.
I didn't even know about this side of Sakura until she showed up in AEW with a mustache. But I also realize all of this didn't happen in two years. I'm just baffled at how I could have watched this woman wrestle several times and not realize her, sensibilities as you put it, were so strange.
Ummm... Syuri's done some wacky, nonsensical stuff as well. A good portion of the matches where she teamed with her friend Hikaru Shida had comic elements to them, and when they had the Ninja Ranmaru with them to complete the trio, nothing was taken seriously. I also wouldn't necessarily say her time with Stardom's Donna Del Mondo faction hasn't been without some elements of wackiness as well.
Chocopro is just supposed to be a fun, unique promotion to launch off from or just fight for. I mean they even bring in the DDT guys too [even the one that fights with a Fox sox puppet]!
@@MegaDaffy I prefer wrestling to be presented like AJW or Arsion, but I know that time is over. I don't hate wrestlers for doing the occasional bad comedy match like Cornette. Some of the Chocopro fans take their goofy promotion VERY seriously when presented with criticism.
@@MegaDaffy Matches in STARDOM's Artist division are almost never treated seriously from bell to bell, but I think we all know Ed is referring to shoot box champion, knockout kick boxer (previously)undefeated mixed martial artist Syuri and in fact is frustrated by the fact we do not always get to see that side of her.
I personally didn't mind when Apple Tale became her cheerleaders.

I knew about professional wrestling clubs in Japan, but I never even thought to consider a full fledged Japanese apartment wrestling company. I don't think we even have those in the US anymore. Less still did I think Sakura, who has wrestled overseas, who has built up an oversea touring promotion, who has been brought into other countries to start live in front of fans in ring federations, would be the one behind it. Much less still did I ever expect to learn about anything of the sort from Cornette.
The business as I know it is upside down! Bow Wow training with Rikishi, The Big Show signing with All Elite Wrestling, one of those things should have been the most surprising professional wrestling news until at least Monday. Sakura is like a distaff Teddy Hart!

Okay, I pretty sure I get the point you're trying to make. It's still a live professional wrestling promotion and not a Fabulous Moolah style apartment to feed photos to Apter's magazine deal. And that does lessen my surprise a little. Maybe the Teddy Hart comparison was premature, but it is still surreal seeing Emi Sakura come full circle as a promoter.
Given rent prices in Tokyo, businesses running out of random places isn't that unusual. Hell, in Tokyo real estate is real estate. Record stores, pet beetles shops, and various random commerce find their way into apartment buildings and the like. Landlords want renters and vendors need a roof over their heads.
Gatoh Move can be seen as skeevy. But then, you know, so could oily men in tights tussling on a mat. Porn is in the eye of the beholder. One person's erotica is another's casual day at the office.
In any case, Emi Sakura's biggest criticism was her usage of underage performers (trainees) in Ice Ribbon - her first "baby" if you will. Having teen girls wrestling in apartments would bring up all sorts of flags, but generally it wasn't that bad. It's just that the fanbase had a creepy vibe to it.

What's kinky is in the eye of the beholder(believe it or not, there are people who aren't turned on by sex they aren't involved in), porn is just a specific genre.
All that out of the way, I get your point. Hearing the Sakura had essentially gone back to square one as a promoter after all these years of hearing and seeing how far she had come kind of left me dumbfounded, but maybe it shouldn't have. Ice Ribbon never did phase out the children entirely after all. I'm fine with catering to children with professional wrestling, but I think they should be in the stands. Maybe in the dojo even, but on shows themselves.

Yet Brandon Cutler deserved to be on TV since he's friends... Also Cutler has to have the best entrance theme and presentation for someone as virtually unknown as he is. Song is decent, got a fucking dragon mask and fire. He's got a better damn entrance than all of the champions lol.

I had so many questions about apartment wrestling when I was a kid reading those wrestling magazines. Like, "How are they got paid without an audience to draw gate from?", "Why were there no battle totaled?", And mainly, "Why are there no masked apartment wrestlers?". "Was it because having a masked one might imply bondage?"

It's Gatoh Move, but the founder was also responsible for Ice Ribbon back in the days (the infamous joshi promotion that used underage trainees and started as a non-skeevy apartment fed).
It's Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling, which has shows on a wrestling mat at Ichigaya Chocolate Square in Tokyo -- the space can hold around 50 fans. The pandemic has had 'em holding live events (which air on TH-cam) without fans.

I bought wrestling magazines back when I was a kid in the early '70's. I didn't buy them because of the apartment wrestling features but I sure did look at those articles a lot!
