As an Australian I have to say that this was the best travelogue on Tasmanian I've seen . I suspect that the reason for this and also the reason you are normally bombarded with views of stereotypical harsh barren landscapes from Australia is that the videos are made by foreigners mostly Americans who like to dwell on the dramatic . Tasmania is one of the most beautiful places I've been on my 50 years of travelling , it has the cleanest air and water on the planet (a scientific fact) and some of the last unspoiled forests and wildlife anywhere . It should be noted that you would find the greener parts of Australia in every state and territory and most of our cities whether huge or small are greener than most cities in the world . The wombats wallabies kangaroos and koalas are just a few of the many cute freindly animals in Australia check out quokka, bilbys, sugergliders flying foxes ,etc , the fairy penguins you saw are found on the mainland also and I've seen them as far north as Port Stephens in NSW . There are over 10,000 beaches in Australia the vast majority of which are what you would call white but the beaches of Queensland's Whitsunday area include the actual whitest sand beaches in the world and are a sight not to be missed . I'm an old invalid which nothing better to do now that my travelling days are over so I love to watch channels like yours that take an interest in my beutiful country , and tend to waffle on to long in the comments in the hope they may help you in some small way .

I agree - it is a beautiful place!
At least nowadays when physically travelling somewhere is difficult, or even no longer possible at all, we can do plenty of “virtual travel”, via TV programs and the internet. I’ve “been” to places from the comfort of my home that I couldn’t afford to or manage anymore - as well as some I wouldn’t go to even if I could!
They are all interesting in their own way, but at someone else’s effort and expense. I’m just “along for the ride”, with little cost, no queues or long haul flights packed in economy, certainly no crowds or language barriers and often finding better views than I might manage on my own.
Hope you long continue to enjoy “travelling” whichever way you can!

There are a couple of towns around Australia called Richmond, like the town Richmond in Tasmania where the guy is, and there’s also a suburb in Melbourne called Richmond as well which is along the coast of Melbourne as well.😊and yes I’m living in Tassie now and I was born in Sydney which was the first place that was invaded by the British government so they could take us naughty convicts to dump because they couldn’t get rid of us because of the American revolution and you guys wouldn’t let us get dumped in the United States which is completely understandable 😅😅😅since my cousin did our family tree and just as I suspected we’re descended from a convict who married a free woman.😉

All those beautiful, old, rare forests, that are growing vegetation from Pangaea times, and Gondwana, are now under threat as our state government over rules the public voice to harvest the old forests for short term economic gain. The people here have been fighting for decades to save our forests and rivers.

Hi ladies. One interesting thing not mentioned in the vid is the Huon Pine, a species of tree found only in Tasmania's far Southwest near Strahan. (A town shown in the vid) It exists nowhere else on the planet. There are living species of this massive tree that are 2000 to 3000 years old, and some of the fallen timber is way older. A stand of trees (a continuous living group) was discovered to have existed for over 10,500 years. This amazing tree thrives in a wet environment but does not rot due to natural oils in the timber. The Huon pine was used extensively in early shipbuilding, and was almost logged to extinction, but patches survived. Of course, it is now protected. We hope you are enjoying a peek at our great country. Cheers.

The majority show Launceston, Hobart, Cradle Mountain and all the areas around those places. This clip has given a more inclusive veiw of Tasmania. Naturally, not everything is included but it does give a good taster for what the state has to offer. Tasmania is 68, 401 square kilometres (42502 square miles). Our population is around 527,000.

You could spend several years touring Tasmania and Australia. Tasmania was once connected to the mainland by a land bridge to Victoria. Much of the landscape is similar to what we have in southern Victoria, including wombats, koalas, little penguins, wallabies, echidnas (pronounced e-kid-na), and much, much more. Hobart is the destination of the world-famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race held at the end of the year. It is also the base for the Antarctic supply ship. A most wonderful state to be in (excuse the pun).

Winter usually sees Mt Wellington with a dusting of snow, but this vid was at the tail end of the season heading into Spring. Snow is more in the Central Highlands. That was our preferred route from Melbourne to the Gold Coast. We loved the cold crisp Winter weather with occasional snow and then the drive over to South Grafton through the sub tropical rain forest. Setting off from Armidale prepared for snow and a couple of hours later stripping off for 20+ C on the northern NSW coast!

There are Cool-temperate, Warm-temperate, Dry, & Subtropical, tropical Rainforests in Australia.
Tasmania has 4 different types of cool-temperate rainforest - and is by far the best example of that kind of lush, misty, crispy-fresh-air type of forest.
On the other hand, if you headed north for about three & a half thousand kilometres, you’d find yourself in the Wet Tropics Rainforest in Queensland, part of the oldest continually surviving tropical rainforest anywhere. The area includes the Daintree Rainforest, where along some stretches of coastline the tropical forest grows right down to the edge of the ocean. It’s over 135 million years old - the oldest rainforest in the world. Definitely the best place in the country for soft, hot, wet, tropical-air forest, where you can actually imagine you saw a pterodactyl fly overhead.

Tasmania is such an amazing place with an amazing history. I grew up in Ulverstone 30 minutes east of Burnie on the Coast. Wallabies are a smaller relative of the kangaroo. The rain forests are actually called temperate rainforest rather than tropical rain forests. It used to be connected via a land bridge to the mainland of Australia ( thousands of years ago ) Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world. Weather patterns continue uninterrupted from the east coast of south america to the west coast of Tasmania. Tasmania has a population of approx 500,000 and is the second oldest colony of Australia. Sydney first then Hobart. As a convict if you were bad you went to sydney if you were really bad you got sent to Tasmania. The West coast of Tasmania has rain most of the year round. Cradle Mountain is exceptional and the overland track takes roughly 6 days to walk ( Dad and I actually ran it on year and did it in 3.5 days ). Most tourists come for a week or so and that is not enough!! So many more places to see and so many more things to do. A rental property will cost you approx $270.00 usd per week on a 6 - 12 month lease.
If you girls ever decide to visit Australia the wife and I would be more than happy to show you around the state of Victoria and Tasmania.

I ❤ my trip around Tasmania. There is so much to see and he is so right about the food. The purest air in Australia to my mind. $ conversion is AUD$3000 = approx. US$2000. I loved The Wall in The Wilderness which was an art work in progress when I visited comprising panel after panel of wood carving. Truly amazing. We found the accommodation fairly reasonable everywhere we went with Strahan being in the upper $ range but well worth the 5 days we spent there checking out the harbour, the river and the rain forest and the rack and pinion railway through the rain forest mountains. Never pass up the food offerings because of the $cost because the quality of the food cannot be surpassed (except maybe could be equaled in Scotland), and NO I am not a Tasmanian and I have travelled the World and the quality of the food was that good. ❤️ you girls 👋

My wife and I did a 10 day trip to Tasmania, and were lucky to even see a fifth of the state. Highlights of our trip were Port Arthur Heritage Convict Settlement(did both the day and night tours), the Tahune Treetop Walk(looking down the Huon River Valley), the Penguin Walk at Bicheno(on the north east coast), Cataract Gorge in Launceston, Woolmers Estate(The 1.53 hectare Rose Garden which has Heritage Rose varieties along with more modern varieties), and Bothwell(for a small town it has over 50 heritage listed buildings, along with the only consecrated toilets - that's another story). You could take two months, and you might just about see all of Tasmania.

I love visiting Tasmania, it’s breathtakingly beautiful. From visiting family there it feels like an amazing place to live if you’re well off, retired or just there for a short stay. It can sometimes feel like a harder place to live for younger people with lower incomes, due to fewer opportunities, but still a great place to be. Tasmania is a must visit destination.

Thankyou for checking out my home state of Tasmania (Tassie).
I've lived here for most of my life.
I've lived, worked & played in places some ppl can only dream of seeing, & they weren't featured in this vid.
But this is reflective of how much is packed into a small space (an island).
The unique climate & variation of environments... rugged coastlines & white sandy beaches to inland lakes & river systems provides a unique experience with something different to look at in every direction.
To give an idea of climate... we sometimes get cold air that swirls up from Antarctica & causes it to snow in the middle of summer, & everyone in Tassie rugs up & hugs their heaters & wood fires while the rest of Australia walks around in shorts & thongs/sandles & hugs their air conditioner to keep cool.
Our food, produce & local culture is reflective of our environment... world class cray fish from the rugged coastlines to world class trout & freshwater salmon from inland lakes & river systems.
In the centre of all this lies pasture & farmland that provides some of the best quality fruit, veg & meat... in addition to forestry (as featured in the vid).
Some of our best quality exports of fruit include cherries & apples.
Local native wildlife that is unique to Tassie is also a big draw card that attracts a lot of visitors to my home state. Many of which make the mistake of believing we have koalas here.
Koalas are native to mainland Australia & don't exist in the wild in Tassie.
But we do have drop bears... a distant cousin of the koala, & one of the main reasons ppl don't go camping alone in Tassie.
Like a lot of wildlife in Tassie, these drop bears are nocturnal (come out at night), which makes it extra risky to be wandering around in the bush at night.
If you ever visit my home state of Tassie, remember to bring a puffer jacket... we'll know that you are visiting & give you special treatment.
Also be prepared for the dry sense of humour of the local ppl.
The creator of the vid you featured did a good job for a visitor or someone from mainland Australia (he's wearing a puffer jacket & there's not a cloud in sight in any of the content).
But this is a good example of how fresh the air is in Tassie.
The only real negative is some of the locals may be offended by an outsider from mainland Australia releasing a video to the public where they mispronounce names of major locations featured in their production.
    Ie/eg. Triabunna is not pronounced Tree-a-bunn-ah. It's pronounced Try-a-bunn-ah.
It's pronounced this way to confuse outsiders... they have to keep 'trying' & maybe they'll get it one day.
The Richmond thing... the AFL team & Tassie town are completely different things.
The AFL team is based in a city located in the state of Victoria (mainland Australia).
Tassie currently doesn't have a team in the AFL... but may do in future (#WatchThisSpace).
Thankyou again for featuring my home state, & thankyou for reading my comment (if you read it).
I hope my comment provided a bit of insight from a local perspective.
P.S. Pro tip if you come to Tassie & want to have an off the beaten track experience & look like a local... wear a flannie (shirt), a pair of jeans or fleecy trackie dacks to keep the legs warm, a pair of blunstone boots & grow a mullet (hair style).
Consuming alcohol is always optional, but a lot of locals travel with an esky (hard box cooler) or powered cooler in case they need to put anything on ice (freshly caught fish etc) or just to keep stuff (groceries etc) cold.
These types of things are popular in Tassie among ppl that like to spend extended periods of time off the beaten track (like myself).

Try John Farnham in concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra singing 'Help" and "Your the Voice" a pop singer with an orchestra backing him, you will be amazed and delighted and emotional too, and also try "The Seekers" "I am Australian" final farewell performance ...... more emotion and delight

If I showed my mother this she would be so mad! We are born and bred in Geelong! We support our local afl team the Geelong cats! They won the premiership (Australia’s super bowl) this past year and have won it 4 times in the past 11 years! Go cats!!!!

To answer your question: no, not the same Richmond, although at a guess they're probably both named after the same person.
The Richmond Tigers are from Melbourne. The Richmond portrayed here is a quaint little Tasmanian country town.

Hi Ladies.... glad you loved the Tassie experience. You should check out Broome and the Kimberley region which is about as far away from Tasmania as you can get. Beautiful scenery, different flora and fauna. Stunning beaches and amazing outback landscapes.

There are "Richmonds" all around the world. I think the original was a huge palace in London UK. The AFL Richmond is a small inner city suburb of Melbourne with very working class roots. Australia has many Rainforests mostly along the East Coast, Tropical in the far North all the way to the Cool Temperate ones in Tasmania. Tasmania is a great destination, just bring a jumper (that's a Sweater for you Americans) just in case.

A lot of tourists come to little old Tassie for only a week cos it's so small, but no way is that enough. ABSOLUTE MINIMUM would be 2 weeks, but even then you would be rushed off your feet. So much to see and do, it probably takes you 7 days to get into the rhythm of life here, there is no point in rushing. You should do a reaction video on the Tasmanian Devil. It's real. It's not just a cartoon character. They're kinda cute, until you see them eat or hear their scream.
