This is how we train at my club, 3K runs max and loads of sprint intervals

Hey team, my suggestion here, you should think to come in Latin America, especially in Brazil, there are lot of boxe gym and everyday the boxes culture is increasing.

I’m hoping to have my first amateur boxing bout in November. I do vo2max interval sessions 2 times a week on the assault bike and 1 tempo run on the normal bike I.e. 20 minute anaerobic threshold.
I also do 3 LISS 60-90 minutes on the bike for my aerobic base. So 6 sessions in total but the LISS days are easy.
How important do you think aerobic base training is for amateur boxing? My old track coach and lecturer (he ran for team GB) told me it’s the most important and even Olympic sprinters jog for 90 minutes after a session.
One study concluded that the aerobic system was the system predominantly used in an 800 metre event and that’s about 2 minutes so I can’t see amateur boxing not relying on it also.

The LISS will enable you to go harder in your bouts. Cut the LISS closer to your fight though

HIIT is where the money is at but you can only do so much of it, that's where LISS comes in

@@cristobal.ashton that’s what I’m thinking. 12 weeks out add sprints then 8 weeks out focus vo2max and lactate system

@@Disinfo321 Other way around. Long duration HIIT and change into short duration as you get choser

@@cristobal.ashton but on boxing science it says you want to do sprint early because they’re too taxing. 12 weeks out get the peripheral adaptations from sprints then the remaining 8 do intervals that aren’t max effort.
