  • Machine learning is all around us; on our phones, powering social networks, helping the police and doctors, scientists and mayors. But how does it work? In this animation we take a look at how statistics and computer science can be used to make machines that learn.

    You have the best way to describe what Machine Learning is. I was wondering what its real meaning and I then found your answer in video.
    I recommend all who don't know the meaning to see this video.
    Thanks Oxford.

    Great introduction. Question: is it always the case that humans need to input the potential features that are used for classification? For instance, the ML algorithm uses the animal's height, length, and face size as features for classification, with computer vision being used to map images to these features. Do some ML algorithms create these features and features maps automatically, or are these always created outside of the algorithm?
    PS: What did you use to create this video, it looks great :)

    • @OxfordSparks
      @OxfordSparks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Robert, in fact, it is almost always the case in modern computers vision that the features for the classifier are constructed automatically. This is what for example neural networks do (models for deep learning). Although we don't tell it to learn height, length, etc, the features that are learned end up having close correlations with such characteristics, as well as other properties that distinguish cats and dogs that we may not have thought of. This is made possible by providing large amounts of data to the neural network. This type of automated learning from data is what makes machine learning very powerful. Kirsty@OxfordSparks

    I would like to leave a constructive opinion, in fact, a reflection. Excuse me for my ignorance, but, correct me, please, if I got it wrong. All the videos I saw about the SUPPOSED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and the SUPPOSED MACHINE LEARNING, including this video, only say what the concept is, and what they (the SUPPOSED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and the SUPPOSED MACHINE LEARNING) are for, but , do not show how they are produced, that is, it is not shown how these miracles happen. In short: it seems that it is a speculation, or a lie, or an imagination in the minds of those who say that they exist, or just a retransmission of what others say, or a belief. It remains unclear, whether ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and MACHINE LEARNING, are behaviors that are in the programming algorithm, pre-programmed, or, if they are behaviors that the program does without the algorithm, and that the program would write that algorithm by himself (which would be impossible with today's technology), and would have more lines in the algorithm, or some change in the code (as if it were an invisible hand writing more lines of code or changing the algorithm). They say there is programming involved, but it is unclear, without explanation, if it is already existing programming (and, in this case, there is no machine learning or artificial intelligence); or, if an algorithm appears that was not written by someone. Stay there, the reflection!

      Hello there!
      We are researchers in human-computer interaction (HCI) looking for people who have taken an
      initiative to recently learn Machine Learning on their own, for career, course or curiosity. Would you mind telling us here (www.surveymonkey.ca/r/SelfLearning_ML) about your experiences and any difficulties you faced while self-teaching ML and how you overcame them. There is also a chance to win $50 giftcard.
      You can help this project by taking out 5-10 minutes to participate in our study.
      For more details, see here: www.surveymonkey.ca/r/SelfLearning_ML
      Please share this request with your colleagues or friends who fit this description. People from any major/background may participate. The survey will be open until July 23, 2020.

  • @PatricioHondagneuRoig
    @PatricioHondagneuRoig 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Okay, it's pretty controversial to make a female scientist cartoon wear a hijab. In one hand, women are independent individuals same as men and can wear whatever they want, in principle; in the other hand, the hijab is a symbol of how that principle doesn't apply everywhere as there are many places where not wearing a hijab or even more oppressive covers can get women punished.
