@@mistergraham6702 I agree, Tekken 5 DR had the most playable characters ingame (33), which is second to Tekken Tag 1 at the time (35), while retaining good prologue explanation and having character interludes in the middle of their own stories. The idea of abandoning good narrated prologues and interludes starting in Tekken 6 felt very questionable as Scenario Campaign failed to deliver a decent story that focuses more on being a beat-em-up than having the traditional 3d fighting game gameplay it had. I was even hoping Tekken 7 will resolve the issue of Tekken 6 not having better prologues like Tekken 5 and 4, and the lack of interludes like Tekken 5. Instead the developers just focused too much on the Mishima saga (and most of the characters involved onto it), which is another lackluster Netherrealm-esque cinematic story mode they tried to copy. This results into side characters that aren't involved into the Mishima saga having much more lackluster story than Tekken 6 had, which most of them besides Steve's (where it continues the story of him being related to Nina) looked ridiculous and exaggerating than before. Damn, even Kuma had a serious prologue and managed to squeeze a bit of comedy without ruining the tone. Heck, Xiaoyu and Panda even had serious prologues well. Such a shame casuals reject Tekken 4's serious tone.
The casuals don't the lame ass esports players do tho smh... I miss these days man Tekken 4 > Tekken 7 all day. T4 esports players bitched and moaned about the gameplay not paying attention to everything else the game offered. T5 eliminated all aspects from T4 sadly the story after T4 went to shit.
- Jin is the hero who has to struggle with his powers. - Kazyua is a anti hero, who is driven by revenge and power - Heihachi is the badass leader of the zaitbatsu and villain who is also driven by power. This is and always will be. My definite Tekken formula. And this game nailed it.
Hearing King and Marduk back to back gave me goosebumps that I haven't had in a while. I'm glad they didn't go straight to what they implemented and rather elude and fill in the blanks. As much as I want them to do this again in future Tekken games, it makes me realize how perfect they did it, let alone 20 years ago.
It always intrigues me how different Bryan is presented here. He's still the murderous cyborg, but he comes across as lost and in need of guidance, outraged that his father figure abandoned him. Making him what is essentially a dangerous toddler, which seems disrespectful to the character, but they really pulled it off here. The next game, he's back to being a generic evil guy with next to no story.
Bryan being a character capable of making a step-by-step plan to achieve his goals feels absolutely jarring when looking at him having become an "evil for the sake of evil" character who only communicates in laughs.
Man, I miss the days where characters in Tekken had a sense of depth and realism to them, when characters outside of the Mishima family weren't just one-note jokes, when Heihachi was a villain, when Kazuya didn't inherit the devil gene from Kazumi but rather struck a deal with the devil to survive, when Paul was a badass and a serious competitor, when Marduk was a serious monster, when Bryan wasn't braindead, when Jin was the main hero of a focused story, instead of becoming an anti-hero and eventually blending into the background of a messed up, retconned storyline.
I like how subtle the introductions are.For exemple:In King's introduction, when they are talking Armor King's murderer, they refer to Marduk as "the vale tudo fighter",and not by his actual name. It leaves to the audience to figure out who they are talking about, amazing writing.
Tekken 1-5 was just about folk wanting to throw hands, get paid and handle business. Then it turned into fighting dragons, starting wars, stopping of the end of world, and trying to bang a robot.
I do wish Tekken 7 would have these prologues especially the artwork as these gave me a better understanding of each character and their motives for participating in the King of the Iron Fist. What makes this even better is the choice of music and narration which really adds a lot drama element.
me too. i miss when individual storylines in tekken were more coherent and actually adds a lot to each character instead of just being cool. even though the roster wasn't that much, there was still an effort into each of their motivations in joining the tournament.
@@spiritualviolation In addition, these prologues also benefit the new characters as it would give me a better introduction and understand their story. I just felt that the character episodes whilst they are short and brief, it was rather empty and I didn't get to know much about the characters' background and motives for entering the tournament.
Watching the new Tekken trailer sparked a core memory. 03-04 around 2 and 3rd grade I use to binge this game with my cousin. We loved the story battles cause of the narrators voice and the character stories. I had to find this!
Tekken 3 was when I was briefly introduced to the series but Tekken 4 was the first I bought. It was amazing. The story is still the best in the series and it made me so invested in the characters and their struggles. Especially Kazuya. When I first saw Tekken 5 intro, I was blown away and was hoping for them to follow up with the engaging storytelling of T4, but quickly realized most of the characters were butchered for the sake of comedy. Namco has been dropping the ball with the lore and story ever since and they made Kazuya into one note villain. Tekken 7 and the movie before it were especially egregious, as they basically retconned Mishima's saga and made it all seem like something straight out of Dragon Ball Z or some shit. The spirit of Tekken's story last beat in T4, you can quote me on that.
That is my theory. Some of her mannerisms, moves and quotes feel too much like Heihachi's. I have a feeling that she might be an artificial body with his personality and memories.
After playing through the story mode, this makes so much sense since Reina is too young to be a biological daughter of Heihachi (she would have to be as old as Lars and Kazuya and she looks like Asuka's age). Plus she knows things she shouldn't know like Kazuya and cliffs. So you might be right in she is the lifeform Heihachi was trying to create. But my initial headcanon is Heihachi was reincarnated as Reina lol.
This voice actor and this music plus all the interface sound effects, ARE PERFECT!!!! I still get chills listening to this. What is this mans name who is narrating 😭???
Here’s one true facts on Jin Kazama Tekken 4 story Jin Kazama isolated himself for 2 years since his betrayal by Heihachi in the aftermath of The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 3
(Just for fun, read the following as if it were one of the narrations) Tekken 4 was the first game in the series for The Unknown SCP. Upon looking at the character roster for the first time, Yoshimitsu was the first character he played as, because his unique design stood out from the others and remains his favourite to this day. When he saw Yoshimitsu's story intro, The Unknown SCP was enthralled. He wouldn't realise it at the time, but the music, the narration, the motivation behind Yoshimitsu's goal, and the fact that he had a sword, all of it would be the reason that Tekken 4 will forever be the favourite Tekken game in the series for The Unknown SCP. (A bit cheesy and maybe a bit cringe, but this was fun to do).
It’s a shame Tekken 4 wasn’t really all that good gameplay wise because these intros were fantastic, they gave each character far more identity than what’s in the games now. They need to bring these back for Tekken 8.
To be honest: Tekken 4 (and 3 also can be) has best themes. Those series have various theme choice which let Namco to choose appropriate theme for every part.for example: Fetus(the theme in video) more darker background and is best choice for this part.
Tekken 4: Rachel Chaolan Prologue Rachel was the youngest assassin, she always find her 10 targets when she begins to kill. Rachel realize that her rival kim is her number 10 target. Rachel is ready to kill kim after she find her target, when the king of iron fist tournament 4 was revealed. She begins to enter the tournament. Rachel was learned from nina, one day she learns martial arts. To show her true power at the king of iron fist tournament 4 when she accepted it. Rachel will find take over mishima zaibatsu, but she didn't realize that heihachi has mishima zaibatsu, she will face heihachi alone.
Chief Eagleclaws was a respectable chieftain of the Iroquois Oneida clan community. He dedicated his life to preserving his ancestors' culture and tribal rights. But on that fateful day, after a tribal meeting, he found his entire community massacred. Houses burned to the ground and most of the people he cared for were all dead, including his brother, his wife, and children. Determined to find the person responsible for the clan's destruction, Eagleclaws sought help from other Iroquois clans for information. One clan leader, who saw the incident, claimed that the Mishima Zaibatsu were responsible and that they were searching for an artifact of unknown importance. Eagleclaws was enraged by the Mishima Zaibatsu for the massacre of his clan. He prepared himself for war and entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to confront the Zaibatsu's leader, Heihachi Mishima.
I'm not a huge fan of T4 but I'll admit that it's realistic touches on story were the reason I invested into chars such as Jin Bryan Lee and Steve TK5 was too much over the top whereas TK6 had a nice story but it could've been better.
Tekken 4: Kim Wulong Prologue After the king of iron fist tournament 3, kim was tired. She continued to being an police officer. Until she search the mishima zaibatsu on the computer. When the king of tournament 4 was announced. She began to enter the tournament. She learn martial arts, dojo, and also trained in the traditional arts of karate. Kim says that she do whatever she can to protect everyone in the city. She decided to enter the tournament to face both kazuya and heihachi, including her twin brother jin. But kim want to confronted both of them what happened to their past, because she has enough. Kim is gonna put an end to this. Even though, she didn't remember anything when she was adopted. Kim keeps looking for some answers until she finds out the truth.

The BEAR has serious motivations. Dang um.
Both his father and himself lost to the same man. Pretty humiliating considering they should have significant physical advantages over humans.
Remember when Tekken wasn't a competitive only game and actually had a great lore? Yeah, good old times.
Lol damn even Kuma had a bad ass intro.
PowerOfTheKing bears all over Asia are the toughest among humans.
Last stand before he, Paul and Law became goofballs
- Jin is the hero who has to struggle with his powers.
- Kazyua is a anti hero, who is driven by revenge and power
- Heihachi is the badass leader of the zaitbatsu and villain who is also driven by power.
This is and always will be. My definite Tekken formula. And this game nailed it.
Everything about this screams quality and nostalgia
It's scary.
How many pants have you crapped?
The best narration and artwork for the prologues. Why can't we have something like this for Tekken games nowadays?
Hwoarang, Rival of Jin.
Ex SpecOps in the Korean Military, Taekwondo prodigy, hustler, street-fighter.
Tekken 4, the king of dealing with the real life problems
I like how subtle the introductions are.For exemple:In King's introduction, when they are talking Armor King's murderer, they refer to Marduk as "the vale tudo fighter",and not by his actual name. It leaves to the audience to figure out who they are talking about, amazing writing.
Tekken 1-5 was just about folk wanting to throw hands, get paid and handle business. Then it turned into fighting dragons, starting wars, stopping of the end of world, and trying to bang a robot.
My childhood and sister's favorite game
MrPhantaze same here
MrPhantaze same here.
This why I love Tekken and this was my first tekken aswell
Same
11:21 I didnt know there existed an image of King with a poncho and sombrero but it definitely fits him!!!!
Still peak Tekken storytelling
I get goosebumps every time i hear this, it might be the only good thing in tekken 4, but that's done perfectly, it's so ominous and interesting
It's scare me a lot.
Tekken to tekken 5 the last real tekkens
this is like Shakespeare compared to t7 writing
True
LordCloudStrife I hope they bring the Prologue back for Tekken 7 the Nostalgia & music still gives me goose bumps!
Callum Brown and a narrator
I know I am extremely late, but T7 has the worst prologues which felt like literally last minute additions
This is the last Tekken Game that every characters felt special and relevant to the important storyline
Man the soundtrack is so refreshing
this soundtrack as if it's clean all trash with future games, wipes off .
^make sense
The best storyline tekken to this day
The funny thing is, Lee was right, Heihachi died that same year.
Tekken 7's story happening in the same year as Tekken 4's sounds absolutely wild, but it's surprisingly true.
you either get the tekken 4 narrator or tekken 7 journalist when it comes to multilingual literature
Tekken 4 was the last game Jin was a good character in. Starting with 5 he descended into emo "I will get rid of the Devil Gene in me."
I would say also Tekken 4's Narrator's Voice is so damn badass amazing!!
Darkest and best Tekken in terms of storytelling
I'll be definitely using the characters bio storyboards as grammer checks.
😂😂😂 bro I used them for my English exams back in 2006 and got an A
@@JBC02 video games that comes with storyboards sure can help you out.
Tekken 4 All Characters Intro Opening Prologue
Tekken and Namco knows how to put on fantastic fighting games with lots of action, drama and Storylines
Jin's intro is goated
Watching the new Tekken trailer sparked a core memory. 03-04 around 2 and 3rd grade I use to binge this game with my cousin. We loved the story battles cause of the narrators voice and the character stories. I had to find this!
I loved the style of the story mode with the artwork included! Sweet Memories!!
Same thing
Paul Phoenix + Nina Williams = Steve Fox
Simple as that
18:16 Nina's first part of the prologue scene is so damn badass good! :)
It took 20 years, but Jin no longer hates the Mishima fighting style and has accepted his Devil Gene
Tekken 4 ( 2002 ) - PS2

Listen to Ted Bundy's last interview, listen to his voice, and then this guy's voice. Uncanny.
Tekken 4 was my first game of the series I played at Dave and busters all the time, Tekken 5 was the first game I had for console.
storytelling in other tekken: alright uhhh thats cool
storytelling in tekken 4: bruh thats some intense stuff
Really wish they added this style for Tekken 8.
3:53 Calling it right now
What if Reina was a lifeform created by Heihachi's research for this new lifeform?
Humm...i think she's a daughter Heihachi raised in secret
I love yall's theorys!!
I think Tekken 4 got Dark prologues. For example Paul is broke, Law is drinking, King wants revenge for Death.
Real life story in Tekken history
12:21 Kuma's addiction to television. That's pretty funny. He's a bear who loves television.
This voice actor and this music plus all the interface sound effects, ARE PERFECT!!!! I still get chills listening to this. What is this mans name who is narrating 😭???
Antonio Ploszay was this game's narrator.
Awesome. Thanks for putting this together
Here’s one true facts on Jin Kazama Tekken 4 story
Jin Kazama isolated himself for 2 years since his betrayal by Heihachi in the aftermath of The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 3
(Just for fun, read the following as if it were one of the narrations)
Tekken 4 was the first game in the series for The Unknown SCP.
If i was going to say which Tekken Game was the darkest i would say "Tekken 4 is the Darkest Tekken Game Ever Made".
The best Tekken imo
Tekken 4: Rachel Chaolan Prologue
Rachel was the youngest assassin, she always find her 10 targets when she begins to kill.
I don't know what it is but the narrator is the best! Really takes me back to playing this with my brother eons ago ^_^ ♥♪
This was the first time ever Tekken had an actual writer.
Lmao. From Tekken 5 onwards they contracted the cheapest writer lmao
Godspeed to Shinsuke Sato, the person who wrote the story for this game.
Raise your hands if you're playing tekken 4
I love this game
The prologues kinda get you invested in these characters and it's sad when you find out many of them don't reach their goals in Tekken 5
Take a hit every time a character burns with desire
18:17 The screen that came on when your mom came in the room.
The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 4
I'm not a huge fan of T4 but I'll admit that it's realistic touches on story were the reason I invested into chars such as Jin Bryan Lee and Steve TK5 was too much over the top whereas TK6 had a nice story but it could've been better.
Just a side note all these prologue are canon except their endings,Maybe Brayn's though
I believe Jin's and the first half of Kazuya's endings are canon
King's ending is canon as well except he didn't win the tournament and chose to spare Marduk.
Nina and Steve’s are canon
This maybe the worst tekken Gameplay wise, but it is without a doubt the best in story, characters and stages
Amen.
I love the gameplay. I revisit Tekken 4 a lot for it's unique fights and stages
This was my favorite Tekken Game
I like Tekken 5
goddd i hope that tekken 8 (if it becomes a thing) has these kinds of prologues
Tekken 4: Kim Wulong Prologue
After the king of iron fist tournament 3, kim was tired.
Who is Kim Wulong?
Lei's Adopted Daughter, But Kazuya & Jun's long lost daughter & jin's long lost twin sister, kim is an kazama. her voice actresses are laura bailey & kira buckland.
I like this prologue narrator. Anybody know if there is any hope of cloning the voice with AI or any tips on how to create a similar reverb effect?
only problem was, as the prologues starts to end, the louder the background gets
Death By Degrees should have been a game about Nina's career as an assassin not her being a spy for some reason.
Tekken with twisted metal black story style
Everytime, i thought Combot was upgraded to Alisa. Then i saw Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
Why does this make sense?
Need this back in tekken 8. Wasn’t a fan of tekkens story this year

Best story ever
So violet and lee are the same person right? And who killed king's mentor?
Craig Marduk killed King's mentor, King's mentor was Armour King, Craig killed him in a bar fight one night in a fit of rage.
And yeah, Lee and Violet are the same person, Lee took on another name and a disguise and entered the 4th KOIF tournament.
1. Yes.
2. Craig Marduk.
