Greetings from the UK. I really enjoyed your reaction. Here is a very basic explanation of the lore. Vessel was visited in a dream by an ancient deity that he refers to as Sleep due to its actual name being impossible to pronounce by modern humans. Sleep has always existed and was responsible for giving humans dreams and nightmares. Sleep promised Vessel glory and magnificence if he followed him/her. Everything the band do is a token to Sleep, hence the name of the band. Sleep gives Vessel dreams and visions, both beautiful and glorious as well as horrific nightmares. All the songs deal with Vessel's struggle with this toxic relationship with this deity that he can only access in his dreams. Of course the songs can also be interpreted as a toxic relationship that Vessel had with a past partner and all of the fallout from this traumatic experience. It's entirely your discretion how you intepret the songs. Subscribed. I look forward to your journey through this band's amazing discography. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
@@brianalmeida1964 Wow man 🤯That is super creative. What an amazing concept for this music. This also explains why so many commenters wrote ‘worship’. I get it now. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out and explain it to us. This comment just really made me fall deeper in love with this music.
For some context. The last song on this album Euclid is an important and emotional track because it’s a culmination of the previous albums. For the people who just listened without the context it’s just a good song. For the people who’ve been paying attention to the lyrics and melodies it hits a lot different. It would be interesting to see if you catch something familiar with Euclid after listening to at least the first album Sundowing. Either way enjoy the music.
They have the ability to make you feel as if the lyrics are so personal to their life while being open enough for them to feel so personal to our own lives as well. I've always said music🎶is🔮magic and now I say sleeptoken is magical🔮🎶music
Great Reaction! This album is the “final” trilogy of “Sundowning”, “This Place Will Become Your Tomb” and now “Take Me Back to Eden”. Each album, starting even way back on their first two EPs “One” and “Two”, all tie into each other. It’s amazing how they stick with the lore. They even call back to certain songs from past albums. The music all plays into a time of history, science and even sometimes through theology or spirituality (hence references to eden, etc). ST tells a story through his encounter with a deity called Sleep. As Vessel goes through the journey in each song, he tells it in a way that people can all relate to today, such as the journey through a relationship or through life’s ups and downs. It’s magnificent and down right genius. Here for it! Worship!!!
I am so psyched to unlock al this music. I want to dive into all these albums right now, but am gonna save it all for reactions as we go along. Thank you for sharing the lore explanation. Such a creative approach to writing music!
Dang... I liked this even more listening a second time. Are they all fallen angels on a mission? Then like Clay said is it about existence? Or love? Here we goooooo!!!
Someone else can speak to the lore/lyrics/imagery better than me. I think it's worth mentioning that Sleep Token is officially only *two* band members: Vessel (clean vocals, harsh vocals, guitar, piano, etc.) and Vessel II (or just II, read "Two") on drums. When playing live, they have other band members (III and IV) playing Bass and Guitar, with IV helping perform some of the harsh vocals. But in the studio, it's all Vessel aside from the drums. Absolutely wild, if you ask me.
Had to comment in the first minute, doing this first is fine, but absolutely do not, DO NOT finish this album without at least listening to the first song from the first album. Source - Trust me bro.

This was actually tough decision lol - Selfishly, I do want to hear this whole album asap haha
It's a complete package of an album. Their earlier work is great, but this album is greater.
