I want you all to understand that I have a CBR600RR, I've put more miles on super sports than I have on any other type of motorcycle. I have, and always will have a certain love for those rockets. But I must admit that with my experience of multiple close calls, and issues with law enforcement I have to admit that it's no longer worth it. Not saying I'm getting rid of my super sport, cause I'm not. I'm just trying to show you guys that there is more to riding than going 150 MPH and dragging knee. We can go out and have a really fun time without putting ourselves and others at risk.
I agree that there's definitely more to riding than doing excessive speeds. I have a 07 1000RR, but I ride it due to the benefits of stress relief, it's aesthetics, and dream to take it to the track one day. I've rode with people who were at 110% all the time it was too much for me. Too many variables on the street that can set you up for a real fucked up day, especially those tar slicks.
usually speaking, when you witness your 30ieth birthday, you probably won't die on a motorcycle anymore. at least not because you did something freaking stupid.
I think it must be that people expect a motorbike itself to attract women, which is silly. But... it will 100% get you noticed, by men or women, like a foot in the door, a conversation starter. You still have to do the rest yourself. If you attract more men you are just more comfortable with men and/or dont have a women-rich social scene, or just have a repulsive personality
As a woman, and as someone who rides everyday as my bike is my only transportation, most of the guys that talk to me about my bike, are trying to convince me that I should get a bike more like theirs, which I find to be a pretty odd icebreaker. Yes 50 year old guy on the Harley, I want to hear exactly why I should have just bought an 883 instead of a 125.
@@BfaltS1K lol not sure what you drive but Ive only own/built lifted jeeps for wheeling and a 65 Chevelle for street/strip 😆. Tires 200+ ea if i go cheap. The old 65 i would watch the gas gauge drop at idle, but man that car was loud and fun. All part of being a gear head. Gotta pay to play but i have no regrets. I love my toys.

70 yr. Old geezer right here , like I tell all the people who tell me that crotchrockets are dangerous. I tell them that yeah , so is life , I've ridden Harley's , British and some in between and the crotchrocket is the only SAFE motorcycle to ride. Handling , braking , acceleration and stopping are sooooo superior to anything on the road and believe me , I've used all four parameters to measure the safety of these things. Life in general is risky , from the government , natural occurring disasters , man-made disasters to all danger in between , are all.dangerous. At the end of the day , being happy is the objective , I say that happiness is the one thing that can't be bought , but a crotchrocket will put a shit-eating grin on your face that is priceless. Ride hard , ride safe !. Gotta go , the gsxr thousand is calling my name !.
Move out The way I can understand your point here, but I'd rather my best friend whom I've known since 3 years old to live a fulfilling life, than not to. If, for him, that means riding a fast crotch rocket, then so be it. Yeah, he could easily die from a little bad luck (cause skill can't always protect you) but at least he'd have died doing what he loved and I will respect that. Of course, I want him to live a long life and enjoy as many great times together as we can, but if I told him not to ride a motorbike (sports bike) because it comes with the risk of death, then that would just be selfish of me.
I hear you, man. I know what you're saying. I'm 35, and have been riding since I was 19. As soon as I mastered my old 550LTD Kawasaki, I bought a CBR954RR. I put over 70,000 miles on that bike. Why? When I'm on a literbike, I feel like superman. It's the closest thing I'll ever have to a fighter jet. It's better than any sex I've ever had, or drug I've ever done. When I rip through the gears, and hit 2 bucks at 3am on a lonely highway, I still feel pure joy, and I'm never gonna stop. I'd rather die with my boots on, than be a 90-year old boring pussy.

Been riding super sport bikes for over 20 years. Never been in an accident/laid one down never had a ticket for being pulled over. Never had to out run a cop, never had a issue with road rage. Yes I live in Colorado so I ride canyons/mountain roads hard and fast. My secret is ride within my limits don't let my ego take over. If i ride with friends and they want to pass 100 cars on blind corners with double yellow they know I won't do it and just wait for me. Then we ride again. I love going fast that is no lie, I love to drag knee and I love my life

Half the twisties in Colorado are blind corners and you always have to deal with mountain debris. I love the twisties here but I'm not stupid enough to ride hard and fast through them. There's way too many tourists that are going 20mph around a hidden bend, you come on them doing 50mph, and you have no out, because there's a guard rail on one side and cars coming from the other direction.
I live in Colorado Springs and most of them around here are that way. Monarch Pass, COS to Woodland Park, La Veta pass, highway 50 from Canon City to Salida, Buena Vista to Leadville, any twisties around Estes Park, and going to Cripple Creek are all that way. I can't think of a single road with decent twisties that aren't.
I commute for 2 hours each day on my cbr600rr and wouldn't change it for the world! But it's very hard to keep the speed down...especially on those open roads!
Mad Man The cbr600rr comes in the super sports category. Although, I'll be getting a cbr500r when it launches in my country, India, probably next year or so. Why the cbr500r? Because it's right in the sweet spot between sports touring and super sports! I also heard it's pretty comfy to ride, and got ABS! Wish me luck! (I just want it to launch soon😁)
Bavani Sankar the cbr500 is a really good bike, got a nice riding position, has enough power to do what needs to be done and is super good on gas. If I didn't sink mine I would still have it!
I remember the day the day I got my first motorcycle. It was a beautiful Suzuki SV650 from 1998. The bike had only one owner that loved this bike so much but he needed to sell it because he already had enough bikes and he didn't ride it for months. He explained me the whole history of this motorcycle. I never seen someone so passionate about a bike like this guy. He put the most expensive tires and brakes on it,he repainted it,restored it's seats,he made a custom dash for it and did a ton of other upgrades for this old bike. He told me that he will sell it to me only if I will take great care of this bike and If I can meet with him from time to time to ride it. I promised him that and I kept my promise. I sent him messages every week or two about the bike and how it handles like a dream. After about two months he told me that he misses his SV and he would give me his Ninja 650 for it. He offered me a bike that was much more expensive than this old SV because it meant so much to him. I refused him like an idiot that I am but I told him that if he wants to ride it,he can always come to my place. He visited me every weekend and took the SV for a short ride around the city. I rode his Ninja 650 along side him and I was wondering why would he want that old SV back ? His current bike had all this technology on it and it was so much better than an old carburetted motorcycle. Then,I had my first crash. Some idiot turned left in front of me and the next thing I remember was me flying in the air and hitting the hard pavement. I was feeling like I was no longer in this world. Maybe it was because of the adrenaline or the shock but I felt like in a dream for 10 seconds or so. Then the pain hit me. It was so intense. I was wearing all my gear. CE2 rated pants,boots and jacket and CE1 rated gloves. If I didn't had those, surely I would have ended up paralyzed. I got up even though the people around me told me not to. I looked at my bike and she was destroyed. My little baby that I loved so much and that I saved up two years for was laying on it's side wrecked. After I came home from the hospital,I called the previous owner. He couldn't believe what he was hearing from me. He cried on the phone like a little kid. The next day he came to my house and sit next to the wrecked bike for 3 hours. In the end I offered it to him. He took it and he still has it now. He can't fix it since the frame and the engine are destroyed. He keeps it in his shed. Every now and then I visit him and we look at the SV. She is taking her forever sleep but neither of us can bring ourselves to sell it for parts. She took great care of both of us and she deserves to rest now. RIP Suzzie 1998-2022. It was my first motorcycle and the best one that I could ever had
A lot of what you said is true, but most of what you talked about are dangers on all bikes that go on the street. Sport bikes are already having trouble in sales. We don't need fearmongering of sport bikes. We need smarter and safer riders. I used to commute daily on my sportbike. I never once got pulled over on my 600RR. Why? I rode smart. I didn't do stupid things on the freeway or in high traffic. In my area, there are more cops than ever before, and it's hard to get away with anything anymore. I don't blame the cops, though. They're just doing their job. You're right about sportbikes, in that people buy them to go fast. But the same is true of any sports car, muscle car, sports sedan, or any other vehicle with far more horsepower than is needed. This isn't a bad thing, it's just an escape for people. But lets keep it real. You can have a lot of fun on sportbikes, you just have to be prepared. Always wear your gear. Always be looking for road debris. Always ride like people can't see you, and always EXPECT them to do the dumb thing at the worst possible time.

You're either not married or I feel sorry for your wife. What if you're wife starting doing cocaine as a hobby. If you're a good husband you should just STFU and let her enjoy right? She can afford it, as long as she keeps it under control it's not hurting anyone. There's a good reason most wives don't want their husbands riding a motorcycle. If you're not a dead beat then you probably contribute financially to your household. Riding risks your ability to do that, and it only benefits you, it's selfish. I'm not saying you shouldn't ride if you're married. I'm married, I have kids, I still ride. But I know I'm being selfish, as opposed to blaming my wife for being concerned that I'm doing something dangerous for no one's benefit but my own.
This is not the ugly truth of superbikes... this is the ugly truth of the riders.. As soon as you hold the accelerator of a superbike its like holding thor's hammer.. so much power in your hands.. not everyone can handle it.. not everyone is worthy.. you have to keep in mind that these machines are beasts.. they can easily take a life. But this doesnt mean you stop having fun.. life is risky I agree.. you can slip and hit your head and die.. or you can fall off stairs.. but if you start worrying about it you'll never even step out of your room. Just keep in mind that with great power comes great responsibility..
One biggest problem with liter bikes it the fact that when you get used to driving one all other bikes feel like they are heavy, slow and somehow broken. The 1000cc sportbike is just so good at everything except comfort. And they are also quite bad choose also for the track since they are so demanding there or at least the older models I am not sure if the electronics help now days. When I used to ride 2004 zx-10r I had to ride at the track almost every week to keep my touch on riding. Take a 3 week break and you need half a day before you can use all the power. Also the tire expenses are quite large compared to 600cc when you are going fast, you can destroy the rear tire in couple of sets if you have bad suspension setup or just drive like an maniac. But if you have the time and money to visit race track every week it's absolutely best thing that you can do with motorcycle. nothing isn't so fun than having wheel spin at 3rd gear and trying to keep the front wheel down at 100mph. Also with that amount of power you can do quite stupid things on street like 100mph burnouts :D But the 4 years with zx-10r killed my motorcycle hobby. The track driving was too time consuming and riding on the streets were just boring on any motorcycle. Maybe I should by offroad bike or something but street driving is too boring and dangerous.

You forgot erectile dysfunction and lowered sperm counts caused by the pressure on the testes due to the leaning forward riding position. Not only is my KLR better suited for fighting zombies during the apocalypse, I'll be in a better position for repopulating the world afterwards. The added bonus is the factory installed Kawasaki-Anti-Theft-Styling (K.A.T.S.) keeps the ladies away which leaves me more time to stockpile food and crossbows. It doesn't matter that I've spent 50% of the original price upgrading it to almost 2010 technology, because money won't mean much when they're coming for your brains.
Digital d me too lol i ride a zx600e ( zzr600) ninja myself and i too found it funny tho i should add mine is a street-fightered version with lowered seat and 3 inch higher ( straight drag style) handlebars put me in a much more upright riding position as well so my jewels only hurt when i sit on them by mistake ( at 46years old it happens more often than it used to at 26 lol) but my old rf900r with gixxer seat n tail used to leave me feeling like some fetush freak who liked being kicked in the nuts while stretching backwards until i was shaking ( from the excitement of 180+ mph lol) ah the good old days lol
newt Two strokes definitely have the edge. I have a GSX-R 750K2, a 1977 Kawasaki KH250 (triple) with a 350 top end, and a 2003 Yamaha DT 125R. My favourite? The little DT! It's derestricted, will do a genuine 82mph, light, reliable, comfy and you can even go off road. The GSX-R is great, don't get me wrong, but it's a one trick pony. Fast sweeping a roads and race tracks are just amazing. Motorways, town riding, small country lanes, heavy traffic, are all a pain. The note from the Scorpion end can is addictive mind ;-)
"your luck will one day run out." very true, can attest to that after going from my naked sport to my dads goldwing. thing does not stop. well, it does, but not if you're trying to ride it like a naked... anyway, it's rider dependent. i screwed up, went wide on the turn, rode a goldwing offroad for a bit and was lucky enough to get it back on the road without dropping it or having any damage whatsoever. it's a good wakeup call. you don't have to go mach duck on a supersport, but it's so damn easy and tempting to do. good video.
wrist control, brake control, steering input, reaction time , yada yada yada requires seat time and that is what will mitigate the danger. a noob on a 125 is more dangerous than a seasoned mature responsible rider on a liter bike
I thought I'd never sell my VFR. EVER. Then one day...I remember it like it was yesterday...I was riding it, waiting at an intersection and thought, "I'm done." And that was that...sold it a few weeks later. Love looking at pictures of it, love the memories I have of my time riding it, glad I wasn't seriously injured or killed riding it...but I also don't wish to have it again. Life goes on....

You make good points. They are all valid and articulated well. But it’s called enjoying life. We all aren’t going to stay inside, live in a bubble, and avoid all dangers. I’m from Long Island & live in Brooklyn. Most of my riding is in NY Metro area which is like being in a video game except you don’t get 3 lives. Maybe the rock climber should avoid climbing. Maybe the scuba diver should just stay in the swimming pool. Hell, riding a bicycle or even being a pedestrian in NYC can be a dangerous endeavor. Good riders can’t avoid all obstacles or anticipate when every hazard maybe rear its ugly head, but you learn when to push it and when not to. You know what really needs to happen? Better driver instruction, harder testing, tiered licensing and recertification for driver’s licenses. Getting a license is a joke in the US. When I was in Germany in the Army, I was amazed that people actually drove. In Europe many countries have different classes depending on type of vehicle-not just car vs truck but by size, etc. In NY, the drivers used to be excellent. Fast, but defensive, if you will. Now, they’re either texting, talking on the phone, or driving scared and hesitant. Give me a faster driver who’s paying attention rather than an incompetent driver who’s scared & hesitant. For example, I see tons of drivers just lallygag onto the highway on ramp at 20 mph onto the highway or parkway on Long Island and they think they’re being safe. Then they start freaking because they’re running out of ramp room, jut out into highway speed traffic, freak, swerve erratically and oversteer back onto the ramp to avoid a collision, and cause backlog on cars on the on ramp. Then they sit stationary at end trying to get on from a dead stop. It is insanity. So many drivers are oblivious, distracted, not paying attention and incompetent. So many people are in these plush and quiet cabins that give you inkling that youre in a 4K LB missile, but make it like You’re sitting in a safe sound proof room with a LazyBoy. Point is, the incompetent and oblivious drivers are the biggest hazard out there and its preventable. It’s a shame oblivious and incompetent driving is almost promoted. You just gotta pick your spots and try to be safe. You can’t walk around acting scared. You do your best and try to promote better driving to others. Nothing will change until we all support better licensing and faster speeds. I actively push for this and try to enact change even though its a losing battle. Gotta start somewhere.
I am 52 and have been riding motorcycle since I was a kid. My first street bike was a VFR750 Interceptor. I just bought a brand new GSXS1000F this summer. Not a super sport, but still a fully faired sport bike. I love it just like every other bike I have had. There is nothing like riding it. I live for it.

Exactly. I love my Z1000. It's fast as hell and super torquey but it keeps me down closer to a hundred than my cbr 1000 did. And it's more comfortable. Win win

Dead accurate. I was in denial of this for a long time because I loved them so much, had a VERY near death accident. Picked up dirtbiking, won’t ever look back. I love super sports, but there’s simply no practicality for them off the race track, and dirt is way more fun without the risk of imminent death or revocation of license.
Juugboi sorry for your friend. I would not recommend a bike for no 1 because it’s dangerously addicting. I just got a 1000cc and I will never sell it. If you haven’t ridden a bike don’t try or you will be suck into adrenaline (crack cocaine) fr seriously the amount of adrenaline it’s like you smoking 2pounds of weed. One intense ride on my 1000cc will leave me happy for the whole week fr💯💯
It all depends on self control and when to push it and when not too push it I have grown up much of my life has been spent on ss bikes yes I've crashed some were my fault most were because of 4 wheel drivers not looking and I'm on a flashed ecu BMW s1000rr full exhaust velocity stacks and power commander 5 I'm at like 215bhp I've GPS at 204 mph still had a bit more I think but overall I ride like and old salty track dog and I know when and where to let all the eagles come out lol self control is important
And lest we forget, the #1 reason (50%+) for moto crashes, aside from sub-par skills and lax judgment, is boozing i.e., with a BAL of 0.08 or more. It doesn't take much alcohol etc. to get you off of your best riding game and onto the pavement or into the weeds at high speeds.

I really feel this video describes me perfectly when I first began riding. Always pushing the limits of bravery / stupidity and the limits of my machine. I remember myself on an R6 at 280km/h for the first time and suddenly panicking at the ease of reaching that speed. And it was a rental. Even after a fall, if nothing was broken, I would go back to riding as if nothing had happened. Being young I was reckless with myself, but after a few years I realized I shouldn’t be doing anything that can devastate my family. Super sport bikes are only for those who feel they are at any moment willing to lose it all. Great video that really summarized the cons from the point of view of a rider. Kudos to the manufacturers for their engineering and tech, but I always say this about these bikes, “the machine will always outperform the capabilities of the rider”
Maxx Damage Not true, the number of potential external threats always increases the moment you step outside your front door. Even less needs to be said for driving in general, and while a bike does allow you better handling than a car does, it also leaves you exposed so it doesn't take much going wrong for you to end up like scrambled eggs all over the road. But I get your point.
Maxx Damage Funny thing is, my uncle has a 10 year riding experience, he rode a scooter home from work, went to the shoulders to cut traffic, which is legal, when some guy turned right to go to a dirt road without indicating or looking in the mirror which made him break his shoulder. This was a couple of days ago, and my uncle never rides fast or recklessly, it's a scooter after all lol.
Been a 5 and a half years of a cbr600rr 08 model(07),i can only say the next few things. 1-never ever felt more secure on two wheels as when riding my rr. 2-besides track days that i never had a go,it was my everyday bike,did everything on it,never felt uncomfortable,even when riding 600kms within a day. 3-I ve done a lot of stupid things while on that bike and i dont know why,probably due to the bikes character(being nimble compact riderfriendly etc etc)i always pulled it through. I really love that bike,i kept it in perfect condition as the first day that i purchased it(i was the 3rd owner). 4-those 5 and smthing years had 30.000something kms with no problem other than the usual services of the manual. If i ever get the chance to purchase one of those in such an excellent condition as the first one i had,am gonna get it with no second thought. Love the bike,love the memories i have riding it,the people i met the friendships i made. When gave it away,a part of me died...
I'm 55 & just spent 3 yrs. on a 2007 GSXR 750. I commuted every day on it and loved it but sadly due to a severe back injury from a mtn bike crash I had to let it go. What an awesome bike, it will be missed but I do still have a 2005 750 track bike. I switch to a Harley Sportster for street riding & couldn't be happier, still fun in the twisties & I don't haul ass everywhere I go, just enjoy the ride now. Great vid, all your points are spot on. Supersports are incredible machines but best suited for track riding.
I never ventured into the sportbike realm. I always liked the "sporty" bikes. From my initial learning bike ( 1980 Honda 400 Hawk) , to my 1984 Honda 700 Sabre , to my 1990 Kawasaki Zephyr 600 , to my 1992 Yamaha Seca II 600 , I always enjoyed the comfortable ride and looks of the naked sporty bikes. They had plenty of power for public roads , and if they were ever dropped, you didn't have to worry about big $$ replacing any plastic.
Roy Batty You are absolutely correct. Most accidents are the riders fault. Even when it's the drivers fault, most of the time the bike rider could have done more to prevent a stupid driver from causing said accident.

The best thing I was ever taught...... always think that the car waiting to pull out onto a main road hasn’t seen you and always be prepared for a swerve or slamming the brakes on, I’m 36 now and the days of overtaking on bends and dangerous places are long gone, and riding is so much better. Still on 1 wheel and still a tarmac terrorist, love my 1000cc fireblade 🤘🏽 screams like a dream
I'm the oddity. I love my Honda CBR250R because its aerodynamic and gets great gas mileage and I drive like an ol'grandmother. When I drive the highways at 55mph I constantly have to go to the side of the road and let a line of cars go by, then I get to enjoy my ride. I understand that these kind of bikes attract thrill seekers, so it's taking some time for my family and friends to start seeing where I'm coming from. If they had know I was a hyper-miler, then the pieces would have come-together for them; This bike is a great fit for me.
Gene Weingarten. The CBR250 (up to 400cc class) is enough bike for most pleasure riders. A commuter or 40 miles daily + on a 70mph highway may need a heftier bike for the better suspension, wider tires and better weight. However the CBR250 and Star are basically an old British scrambler built super reliable by Honda,etc.., with plastic wrap added for styling. It was good enough for millions of guys before 1980 and it still is. Ride safe man.
Good analysis. But i'll leave here my point of view. I commute daily on my bike, travel when i'm on vacation, go up the mountain roads on the week-end. I have roughly 8 years of experience, 2 of which on an old ass Aprilia Red Rose 50cc 4 gears manual bike, the rest on my old Ninja 636 and just recently upgraded to a brand new 2017 R6. That being said, after the initial "transition" period from one bike to another, i managed to adapt to the new bike for commuting (i commute with a backpack to bring my work laptop, bike safety chain which is roughly 4 Kg(!), 2 disk locks, motorcycle cover for when i park it outside, a pair of shoes (i ride 100% of the time with race boots so i need a change for work) and a water proof 1 piece suit to put over my gear in case of rain. That backpack is heavy! BUT with proper precautions (mainly a good back protector that helps sustaining the weight) i never had an issue. I don't agree about the fact that commuting on a supersport motorcycle is just like banging a nail with a wrench. It's just a different kind of hammer.
I'm so glad I got a ninja 250 for my first bike I had so many close calls on it going into corners for its 350lbs weight made it easy to recover and a 600 or 1000 would've killed me.. I'm going to upgrade eventually but I will keep buying more gear and improving my skills. In Brampton In Ontario, Canada I find alot of the supersport bikers and cruiser bikers don't wear gear where as sport touring and naked sport bikers wear gear. Just wear all the gear it will hurt less in the shower.
If we had all the adventure bikes in the 60's it would be heaven for you. XD Funny thing is I'm only 18 but like the 70's to 80's culture better i even prefer the old bikes vs the new ones.
I started on (on the street) on sportbikes and found all the things you listed here to be true. So I went for a Wr250r dual sport. Then I found I very rarely go off road, and when I did it made a heavy slow dirt bike with bad suspension. It sucked on the highway and wasn’t great in the twisted either (suspension). But I could wind it out and felt like I was going faster than I was so it was more fun than my sportbikes. More comfortable too. Now I have an mt-07 and I can blast gears without going over 100 mph, hit the twisties at safe speeds and feel confident, and commute without cops staring at me everywhere I go. It’s just fast enough to be fun, but not so fast that I can get in trouble. The handling is much more forgiving than a sportbike and it has abs. I’ll eventually get a cheap dirt bike to have fun with off road, and if I ever have enough money to hit the track more than a couple times I year I’ll get a sportbike for that. Middle weight naked bikes are the answer for me for the street
Great video, you really hit all the points. I made a mistake and bought an R6 ONLY because it looked awesome, even though many people told me not to buy it - I was younger and thought I knew it all and ignored everyone. It was the least comfortable bike ever, extremely expensive to insure and consumed a lot of gas. I was also getting pulled over because I was dumb enough to speed etc. I eventually was hit by a left turner (surprise motherf*cker! lol) and bike was totaled. I was lucky i made it out alive and well and will unlikely to ever buy another super sport bike. Right now i ride Honda Grom and its the most fun bike i''ve ever owned!
You could ride a 150cc dirt bike on the road and go 60mph in a 20mph zone, thats dangerous but if you rode a sport bike 60mph in a 20mph it would be as equally dangerous. What i'm trying to say is that these bikes aren't dangerous just because they can go fast. Its the rider that chooses how fast they are going to go, or if they are going to obey the speed limit. All bikes are of the same danger level so sport bikes shouldn't be singled out cause they are fast, once again. A 125cc dirt bike is of the same danger level as a 1000cc sport bike.

from my childhood. from the time of the 80s. ive been and still in love with motorcycles, specially the naked bikes. when i grew up i just wanted to buy a motorcycle. but i didnt coz of famely matters, lake of safety and danger etc etc. but when it comes to danger and beeing not safe on the streets on motorcycle. limme tell u this. couple years ago i had a bad, bad accident with my car. and guess what was my fault !? just being in wrong place in wrong time. thats it. a car hit me with over 75mph when i was stopped at the traffic light. only 25" was the distance between my head and the damage on my car. i had some head and nick injuries that day. i could be dead that day. thank god am fully recovered. after that day i realized. no matter how careful u are. how skilled u r. things will happen in blink of an eye. and the sad thing is u can do nothing about it. after that i told my self, if things will happen by it self and i can do nothing about it. why should keep my self away from something i want so bad? i only have one life to live. am gonna buy a motorcycle. and i did last year. bought ducati monster 821. never been happier. even if i didnt ride the whole year, coz of our hot summer (i live in Kuwait, middle east). looking at bike make me feel calm. riding my bike for 10 mins in the nighberhood make my brain go in recovery/reset mode. specially after hard and tough day. still, im always on full gear. never drag my knees on the ground. never been above speed averege on the streets. ride safe.
that's why i bought a Cbf125, fast enough for me, i am a begginer, 20yrs old, i like to accelrate but i am scared of speed too, so i said i will buy a bike, not so fast, so i can be safier from speed as much as i can but also enjoy 2 wheel life...i hope you understand me 😉
Supersports are not the problem. The riders they attract and the mentality/experience levels associated with those riders are why they are dangerous. HeroRR has blamed every conceivable factor, except the riders themselves making poor decisions.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why we are seeing the massive boom in standards (FZ-07, SV650, Z900, 390 Duke, CB650F...) and the return of "regular" sport and mid-sized sport-touring bikes to prominence (CBR650F, Ninja 650, VFR800, Duc Supersport, the explosion in breadth in the 250-400cc category...). People are starting to remember why all those 80s and 90s bikes that made less than 100 horsepower were so much goddamn fun
But on the other side you have people who hate the looks of non-sportbike motorcycles. That's actually the #1 reason i ride sportbikes and not say a super naked or something else
hvymtal I completely agree ! Reason I don't own a 1000cc super sport anymore. I love my FZ 09 and it isn't flashed and will not go over 132 mph which is ok with me since the torque for overtaking traffic is why I got it. My girl has the Kawasaki ER 6N so basically the massive spike in naked bikes again is because of practicality for street riding, going to work, to the store, to the mall, without even breaking 10k USD on one of these bikes new in most cases.
Agreed, before I even started riding all I looked at was the Sports Bikes. I've only been riding for lil over 4 months and I have a new passion for Naked and hell, even Cruisers!
hvymtal I agree. Got myself a 2013 SFV 650 instead of a ZX6R or the likes. 0-60 is plenty quick, but tops out a little over 120 in case I feel like twisting the throttle a bit.
Supersports are not logical machines. Using a race-inspired, hard seat sporting, hunched over position having, DEATH MISSILE as your main means of transportation as opposed to a comfortable, practical bike is illogical. But guess what? Riding a motorcycle in general as opposed to driving a vehicle with four stable wheels and a protective, weatherproof metal shield is also illogical. Buying a motorcycle for logic's sake is foolish in and of itself. Go all out and get the bike you want even if it makes no sense! Motorcycles are not a decision of the mind but of the heart. Otherwise let's just drive cars.
Bowen Leigh If your goal is to stay alive then supersports are the MOST logical! Their superior agility, acceleration and braking (over other types of bikes) give you the best chance of avoiding/escaping dangerous situations.

When you face a metropolitan city during rush hour, a bike is a far more logical vehicle than a car. Daily bumper to bumper traffic 10 miles long goes from a two hour drive to 15 minutes and a lot less pollution.
I appreciate the caution. I've been riding super-sports for 30 years and had no problems, but then again I'm an engineer and overthink every situation, every turn, and the mechanics and physics in each instance beforehand. If you're overly reckless, wear no gear (squid), or can't calculate risk assessment, then this applies.
Haribon66 I had a Honda 919 aka hornet. Cheap to insure, 100 horse, I had it up to 165... it didn't quite handle like a super sport and I did crash it but I'd get another naked bike and be more gentle with it just for the cost effectiveness
Hubert, but most likely you will end up a paralyzed person having to be taken care of by others for the rest of your life, which could be decades because they will not give you a death pill even if you beg them to... Broken bones, scars from surgeries, amputations and other things may come before death. Death is easy, the rest will make your life difficult, especially for someone like yourself who believes they will die a "hero", only to end up with a bag on your hip to crap in and a tube into your stomach to be fed with... So, buy the shirt that says, "I would rather die living, than living as if I were dead." But, you may end up watching the ceiling the rest of your life on your back.
Enjoyed the video, thank you for uploading. Over the course of my life, I have owned nine bikes, eight of which were super sport. I was never comfortable riding with protective gear except for my helmet because it made me feel constructive. Had two accidents, both my fault and then decided I was just getting to old for such speed so I finally opted for a cruiser. Lost two friends due to speed and showboating. I finally sold off my cruiser since driving in NYC is extremely risky. When I retire, I’ll move and consider another bike but it will probably be another cruiser. I always disliked riding with someone on the back, usually a girlfriend because the always fought the movement of the bike, such as not leaning into a curve. Also want ti mention that my back never bothered me but I can’t tell you how many times my hands went numb from leaning forward.
I agree with most of what you stated. Street riding over 53 years, Yes I'm soon to be 70, flat track racing even longer. I use my Ducati 1299 S as transportation even when it's 15 degrees out, no snow, I ride. Between all my bikes , over 10,000 miles annually I'm not uncomfortable in the set back riding position of the 1299 . As with any motorcycle riding, common sense is vital . Through the years, bean down moor times then I wish too remember from MOST of the things you mentioned . the feeling of freedom, the power , the ability to beat any vehicle, to me, means I'm in control. Always bin competitive, but cautious . Know many guys that stop riding because so and so got killed or lost a limb , 95% , there fault !! They NEVER should have gotten a bike in the first place. I call it like I see it .. Be safe out there my fellow riders.
This is why I love my FZ1. 143 rear wheal horse and an upright ride. So what that I go through 2-3 rear tires every year. It has enough torque that I can ride two-up all day long at 3500-5500 rpms but any rev over 7000 is wicked fun for when I'm running solo.
biggest factor is RIDER SKILL. EVERY sport bike rider that I've ridden with simply don't have the skill or confidence to truly ride these bikes. "It's not about skill." Yah, it really is. Most riders who constantly have accidents have less than 2-3 years riding experience and are mostly weekend warriors. Ride dirt, get comfortable and most of all...TRUST THE BIKE.
Somtimes skill simply isn’t enough when riding on the street. You can be the best rider in the world and a car can still spontaneously pull in front of you, your bike can lose traction when it shouldn’t, that deer can still run into the road right in front of you, that car can still cross a double yellow in a blind turn, the road can still suddenly turn to gravel, etc. Being a safe rider more than anything else is what will reduce your chances of a crash. Getting too confident in skill and pushing a bike is exactly what can lead you into trouble on the street.
SportTouring with emphasis on sport is were to go! A Kawasaki Z1000CX for example. Good riding position, place for two people and luggage, looks great and has 140hp which should be more then enough for anyone on the street. :)
There is no ugly truth of super sport bikes if you have boundaries. You keep your speed down - know when to gun it & when not to. You always travel close to the speed limit. CORNERING : pre entry - if you can't see around the corner you scrub speed (never ride blind or take risk). When you can see around corner & it's a good road - gun it. HIGH SPEED : though elligal only do when no one else on road, and for a short time. NOTE : I did defensive riding, trainers where top racers both on track & of road. They teach me how to ride fast around wet corner roads & fast around metal corner roads. How to brake fast on wet roads & metal roads. How to handle sliding wheels. Any sport bike 600cc upwards is lots of power & can do same damage if rider not keep in boundaries. 1000cc have more grunt, rider should use that (mid power). Should only be using upper end of power in 3rd or 4th gears. 5th & 6th is only overdrive. I have been riding 31 years. On GN250, GPX250, Dirtbike, GPX750, ZX7R, ZX9R, ZX10, TL1000R. Tips CORNERING : high speed you counter steer, low speed you let bike fall in. Wet Corners : lean bike into corner keeping your body upright sitting on seat. Metal roads : ride your bike like a bout, go with the slide, in lower gears, enginebrake. Pre corner braking : dab your breaks in straight line b4 cornering (lower your gears).
Sport bikes are actually the safest bikes on the road due to the performance capabilities. Stopping distances, acceleration and maneuverability can all help avoid an accident.
yes , their braking is damn good too and their powerful acceleration can be used when needed , but the thing is these speeds pose danger to other civilians on roads ( which are meant for commuting )

You can have just as fun in the twisties on an adventure bike, standard, sport touring, touring or supermoto, and be more comfortable while doing it. I didn't include cruiser simply because of lean angle limitations.
Most men ride supersport bikes because they look cool and aggressive and provide a good compensation for what they lack somewhere else. 99% of the guys I see riding supersport bikes couldn't extract all the performance out of a 250cc, yet they thing riding a 1000cc race bike on the road is a good idea. It's not. A 1000cc supersport bike doesn't teach you anything because you'll never find its limits. A 600/700cc supermoto (KTM 690 SMC R, Husqvarna 701 Supermoto, etc) is the ideal tool for the city. Very light, absurdly agile, cheap to insure. I've beaten tons of guys on supersport bikes on twisty roads on my 690 SMC, and I'm sure I was a lot more relaxed and I had a lot more fun...
I always liked sportbikes, because it was my way of having a lambhorgini. The high performance and functions are something I could never afford on a car. But..i agree there are way too many guys and girls who buy them for the wrong reasons and those idiots ruin it for the responsible riders

I can juice the 200cc bike's potential out whereas I don't even attempt to do that on an R1. Why do I buy an R1 then? Cause it rides differently, looks different, sounds different and I just love the damn bike. I enjoy looking at it while I'm walking towards it in the parking lot. I don't want a cruiser cause I just don't find them appealing. You seem to have a problem with the fact that some people might like something else than what you like, thus you explain it by claiming they are compensating for something. Here in the UK the Police are sympathetic to bikers. Ive been stopped 3 times for riding to fast. It was a friendly chat to get me to slow down, to save my life, they were right. This may not be everyones point of view.
I got my first sport bike when I was 17 back in 1985 and have been riding them ever since (I'm 50 now). Its all about riding within your skill set on your bike, getting a bike that is not beyond what you can safely ride/handle and fully using your brain when you ride. I ride for myself not for "girls" or anyone else, I ride for the enjoyment and peace of it all and not the speed or crazy stunts either. I will add that where you live and ride means a lot as well, I live in Albuquerque, a city that is truly dangerous for bikes in general and as long as I live here I honestly won't ride often here. I currently am restoring a 1996 Honda CBR1000F back to mint stock and I cant wait to get her back on the road again and ride!
Glad to see that other people get it!!! I recently traded my 2012 600rr for a new 2019 500r and the sells guy was questioning me every step of the way. Like I'd be so disappointed downgrading 50+ horsepower. But if you've already had your 'need for speed' experiences, sometimes you just want to get back to fun riding, admiring the beauty of a brand new bike, those back country roads, wolf packing with a few friends, and longevity haha
Google search Ninja 250 Street fighter or Ninja 250 cafe racer I recommend the 250 Ninja because it's so cheap "Standard" bikes are still available, just take the plastic off and cut the back seat off the frame
aussie ELK HYP3RNOVA get a 600, I wanted a 1000 at first and I have one, but I also have a 600. I use the 600's nimbleness every time I ride, I only use the full power potential of the 1000 here and there
I can't wait for my 15th birthday so I can get a BMW S1000RR with twin superchargers and a nitro... just for a little ride to school and back, you know.

Man, I've been riding a Suzuki intruder 800 for 2 years now. The bike was in perfect condition, not even 8k miles and it was a 93. On 4/20 I was riding back to work from break. I was going uphill behind 2 suvs, and it went from a single lane to two, being that I was running late, I got over into the 2nd lane as soon as it was available, well as soon as I got over there was a lane full of cones, loose gravel, and a work truck hidden behind a retaining wall around the corner. I was going 45, slammed on both breaks, the rear slid back and forth, then the handlebars went nuts, and I went over the handlebars, landed on my hip/side, and skid across into the oncoming traffic lane on my back (THANK GOD I HAD MY BACKPACK ON.) I was laying there for a minute grabbing my foot and just rolling around in pain, and luckily the workers were right there and came running to me, otherwise a car could have came and wouldn't have seen me at all because it was right before the peak of the hill for them. I ended up with a broken foot, road rash, a bruised hip, and the doctors have been telling me how crazy lucky I am. I'm 19 so I still live with my mom and she was already scared as hell about me riding in the first place, So now she never wants me on a bike again. I was already near $1,000 in savings for a street bike. Gonna have to wait til I move out to get one now.. drive safe everyone

xeroinflux 500 miles a day is nothing on a bike that fast.. I've ridden multiple bikes over 1000 miles in one day - my Hayabusa was the only sport bike i could take 1000 miles in a day. There's nothing comfortable about a sport bike, don't kid yourself.
Anhjje just raised my zx10r half an inch and my god iknow it's almost nothing but it was enough for me to not be leaned over too much and my back straight

Be smart,like me. I upgraded from a 2007 CBR1000 RR to a 2015 BMW S1000R. Yes a ONE R. (I`m abit surprised at how so many know the RR and so few know the R) The "streetfighter RR" only a slight detune with more emphasis on torque than BHP. And me beeing on the wrong side of 40 i actually enjoy riding now as my shoulders are no longer on fire after 15 minutes,90% of the fun is had at 65-96 mph. Not at 140+

I want you all to understand that I have a CBR600RR, I've put more miles on super sports than I have on any other type of motorcycle. I have, and always will have a certain love for those rockets. But I must admit that with my experience of multiple close calls, and issues with law enforcement I have to admit that it's no longer worth it. Not saying I'm getting rid of my super sport, cause I'm not. I'm just trying to show you guys that there is more to riding than going 150 MPH and dragging knee. We can go out and have a really fun time without putting ourselves and others at risk.
I agree that there's definitely more to riding than doing excessive speeds. I have a 07 1000RR, but I ride it due to the benefits of stress relief, it's aesthetics, and dream to take it to the track one day. I've rode with people who were at 110% all the time it was too much for me. Too many variables on the street that can set you up for a real fucked up day, especially those tar slicks.

As a woman, and as someone who rides everyday as my bike is my only transportation, most of the guys that talk to me about my bike, are trying to convince me that I should get a bike more like theirs, which I find to be a pretty odd icebreaker. The old 65 i would watch the gas gauge drop at idle, but man that car was loud and fun. All part of being a gear head. Gotta pay to play but i have no regrets. I love my toys.

I tell them that yeah , so is life , I've ridden Harley's , British and some in between and the crotchrocket is the only SAFE motorcycle to ride. Handling , braking , acceleration and stopping are sooooo superior to anything on the road and believe me , I've used all four parameters to measure the safety of these things. Life in general is risky , from the government , natural occurring disasters , man-made disasters to all danger in between , are all.dangerous. At the end of the day , being happy is the objective , I say that happiness is the one thing that can't be bought , but a crotchrocket will put a shit-eating grin on your face that is priceless. Ride hard , ride safe !. Gotta go , the gsxr thousand is calling my name !.

If, for him, that means riding a fast crotch rocket, then so be it. Yeah, he could easily die from a little bad luck (cause skill can't always protect you) but at least he'd have died doing what he loved and I will respect that.
Of course, I want him to live a long life and enjoy as many great times together as we can, but if I told him not to ride a motorbike (sports bike) because it comes with the risk of death, then that would just be selfish of me.

Been riding super sport bikes for over 20 years. Never been in an accident/laid one down never had a ticket for being pulled over. Never had to out run a cop, never had a issue with road rage. Yes I live in Colorado so I ride canyons/mountain roads hard and fast. My secret is ride within my limits don't let my ego take over. If i ride with friends and they want to pass 100 cars on blind corners with double yellow they know I won't do it and just wait for me. Then we ride again. I love going fast that is no lie, I love to drag knee and I love my life

Half the twisties in Colorado are blind corners and you always have to deal with mountain debris. I love the twisties here but I'm not stupid enough to ride hard and fast through them. There's way too many tourists that are going 20mph around a hidden bend, you come on them doing 50mph, and you have no out, because there's a guard rail on one side and cars coming from the other direction.
Not true, the canyons outside Denver yes they are that way. Lots of them in the mountains that are not that way.
I live in Colorado Springs and most of them around here are that way. Monarch Pass, COS to Woodland Park, La Veta pass, highway 50 from Canon City to Salida, Buena Vista to Leadville, any twisties around Estes Park, and going to Cripple Creek are all that way. I can't think of a single road with decent twisties that aren't.

I commute for 2 hours each day on my cbr600rr and wouldn't change it for the world! But it's very hard to keep the speed down...especially on those open roads!

Bavani Sankar the cbr500 is a really good bike, got a nice riding position, has enough power to do what needs to be done and is super good on gas. If I didn't sink mine I would still have it!

I remember the day the day I got my first motorcycle. It was a beautiful Suzuki SV650 from 1998. The bike had only one owner that loved this bike so much but he needed to sell it because he already had enough bikes and he didn't ride it for months. He explained me the whole history of this motorcycle. I never seen someone so passionate about a bike like this guy. He put the most expensive tires and brakes on it,he repainted it,restored it's seats,he made a custom dash for it and did a ton of other upgrades for this old bike.
He told me that he will sell it to me only if I will take great care of this bike and If I can meet with him from time to time to ride it. I promised him that and I kept my promise. I sent him messages every week or two about the bike and how it handles like a dream. After about two months he told me that he misses his SV and he would give me his Ninja 650 for it. He offered me a bike that was much more expensive than this old SV because it meant so much to him. I refused him like an idiot that I am but I told him that if he wants to ride it,he can always come to my place. He visited me every weekend and took the SV for a short ride around the city. I rode his Ninja 650 along side him and I was wondering why would he want that old SV back ? His current bike had all this technology on it and it was so much better than an old carburetted motorcycle.
Then,I had my first crash. Some idiot turned left in front of me and the next thing I remember was me flying in the air and hitting the hard pavement. I was feeling like I was no longer in this world. Maybe it was because of the adrenaline or the shock but I felt like in a dream for 10 seconds or so. Then the pain hit me. It was so intense. I was wearing all my gear. CE2 rated pants,boots and jacket and CE1 rated gloves. If I didn't had those, surely I would have ended up paralyzed. I got up even though the people around me told me not to. I looked at my bike and she was destroyed. My little baby that I loved so much and that I saved up two years for was laying on it's side wrecked.
After I came home from the hospital,I called the previous owner. He couldn't believe what he was hearing from me. He cried on the phone like a little kid. The next day he came to my house and sit next to the wrecked bike for 3 hours. In the end I offered it to him. He took it and he still has it now. He can't fix it since the frame and the engine are destroyed. He keeps it in his shed. Every now and then I visit him and we look at the SV. She is taking her forever sleep but neither of us can bring ourselves to sell it for parts. She took great care of both of us and she deserves to rest now. RIP Suzzie 1998-2022. It was my first motorcycle and the best one that I could ever had

A lot of what you said is true, but most of what you talked about are dangers on all bikes that go on the street. Sport bikes are already having trouble in sales. We don't need fearmongering of sport bikes. We need smarter and safer riders.
I used to commute daily on my sportbike. I never once got pulled over on my 600RR. Why? I rode smart. I didn't do stupid things on the freeway or in high traffic. In my area, there are more cops than ever before, and it's hard to get away with anything anymore.
I don't blame the cops, though. They're just doing their job.
You're right about sportbikes, in that people buy them to go fast. But the same is true of any sports car, muscle car, sports sedan, or any other vehicle with far more horsepower than is needed. This isn't a bad thing, it's just an escape for people.
But lets keep it real. You can have a lot of fun on sportbikes, you just have to be prepared. Always wear your gear. Always be looking for road debris. Always ride like people can't see you, and always EXPECT them to do the dumb thing at the worst possible time.

Marriage is a compromise, so if wives want to spend more time with their husbands they should join them!
You're either not married or I feel sorry for your wife. What if you're wife starting doing cocaine as a hobby. If you're a good husband you should just STFU and let her enjoy right? She can afford it, as long as she keeps it under control it's not hurting anyone. There's a good reason most wives don't want their husbands riding a motorcycle. If you're not a dead beat then you probably contribute financially to your household. Riding risks your ability to do that, and it only benefits you, it's selfish. I'm not saying you shouldn't ride if you're married. I'm married, I have kids, I still ride. But I know I'm being selfish, as opposed to blaming my wife for being concerned that I'm doing something dangerous for no one's benefit but my own.
This is not the ugly truth of superbikes... this is the ugly truth of the riders.. As soon as you hold the accelerator of a superbike its like holding thor's hammer.. so much power in your hands.. not everyone can handle it.. not everyone is worthy.. you have to keep in mind that these machines are beasts.. they can easily take a life. But this doesnt mean you stop having fun.. life is risky I agree.. you can slip and hit your head and die.. or you can fall off stairs.. but if you start worrying about it you'll never even step out of your room. Just keep in mind that with great power comes great responsibility..
One biggest problem with liter bikes it the fact that when you get used to driving one all other bikes feel like they are heavy, slow and somehow broken. The 1000cc sportbike is just so good at everything except comfort.
And they are also quite bad choose also for the track since they are so demanding there or at least the older models I am not sure if the electronics help now days. When I used to ride 2004 zx-10r I had to ride at the track almost every week to keep my touch on riding. Take a 3 week break and you need half a day before you can use all the power. Also the tire expenses are quite large compared to 600cc when you are going fast, you can destroy the rear tire in couple of sets if you have bad suspension setup or just drive like an maniac.
But if you have the time and money to visit race track every week it's absolutely best thing that you can do with motorcycle. nothing isn't so fun than having wheel spin at 3rd gear and trying to keep the front wheel down at 100mph. Also with that amount of power you can do quite stupid things on street like 100mph burnouts :D
But the 4 years with zx-10r killed my motorcycle hobby. The track driving was too time consuming and riding on the streets were just boring on any motorcycle. Maybe I should by offroad bike or something but street driving is too boring and dangerous.

Not only is my KLR better suited for fighting zombies during the apocalypse, I'll be in a better position for repopulating the world afterwards. The added bonus is the factory installed Kawasaki-Anti-Theft-Styling (K.A.T.S.) keeps the ladies away which leaves me more time to stockpile food and crossbows. It doesn't matter that I've spent 50% of the original price upgrading it to almost 2010 technology, because money won't mean much when they're coming for your brains.
Digital d me too lol i ride a zx600e ( zzr600) ninja myself and i too found it funny tho i should add mine is a street-fightered version with lowered seat and 3 inch higher ( straight drag style) handlebars put me in a much more upright riding position as well so my jewels only hurt when i sit on them by mistake ( at 46years old it happens more often than it used to at 26 lol) but my old rf900r with gixxer seat n tail used to leave me feeling like some fetush freak who liked being kicked in the nuts while stretching backwards until i was shaking ( from the excitement of 180+ mph lol) ah the good old days lol

newt Two strokes definitely have the edge. I have a GSX-R 750K2, a 1977 Kawasaki KH250 (triple) with a 350 top end, and a 2003 Yamaha DT 125R. My favourite? The little DT!
It's derestricted, will do a genuine 82mph, light, reliable, comfy and you can even go off road.
The GSX-R is great, don't get me wrong, but it's a one trick pony. Fast sweeping a roads and race tracks are just amazing. Motorways, town riding, small country lanes, heavy traffic, are all a pain.

very true, can attest to that after going from my naked sport to my dads goldwing. thing does not stop. well, it does, but not if you're trying to ride it like a naked... anyway, it's rider dependent. i screwed up, went wide on the turn, rode a goldwing offroad for a bit and was lucky enough to get it back on the road without dropping it or having any damage whatsoever. it's a good wakeup call. you don't have to go mach duck on a supersport, but it's so damn easy and tempting to do. good video.

I thought I'd never sell my VFR. EVER. Then one day...I remember it like it was yesterday...I was riding it, waiting at an intersection and thought, "I'm done." And that was that...sold it a few weeks later. Love looking at pictures of it, love the memories I have of my time riding it, glad I wasn't seriously injured or killed riding it...but I also don't wish to have it again. Life goes on....

You make good points. They are all valid and articulated well. But it’s called enjoying life. We all aren’t going to stay inside, live in a bubble, and avoid all dangers. I’m from Long Island & live in Brooklyn. Most of my riding is in NY Metro area which is like being in a video game except you don’t get 3 lives.
Maybe the rock climber should avoid climbing. Maybe the scuba diver should just stay in the swimming pool. Hell, riding a bicycle or even being a pedestrian in NYC can be a dangerous endeavor.
Good riders can’t avoid all obstacles or anticipate when every hazard maybe rear its ugly head, but you learn when to push it and when not to.
You know what really needs to happen? Better driver instruction, harder testing, tiered licensing and recertification for driver’s licenses. Getting a license is a joke in the US. When I was in Germany in the Army, I was amazed that people actually drove. In Europe many countries have different classes depending on type of vehicle-not just car vs truck but by size, etc.
In NY, the drivers used to be excellent. Fast, but defensive, if you will. Now, they’re either texting, talking on the phone, or driving scared and hesitant. Give me a faster driver who’s paying attention rather than an incompetent driver who’s scared & hesitant. For example, I see tons of drivers just lallygag onto the highway on ramp at 20 mph onto the highway or parkway on Long Island and they think they’re being safe. Then they start freaking because they’re running out of ramp room, jut out into highway speed traffic, freak, swerve erratically and oversteer back onto the ramp to avoid a collision, and cause backlog on cars on the on ramp. Then they sit stationary at end trying to get on from a dead stop. It is insanity. So many drivers are oblivious, distracted, not paying attention and incompetent. So many people are in these plush and quiet cabins that give you inkling that youre in a 4K LB missile, but make it like

I am 52 and have been riding motorcycle since I was a kid. My first street bike was a VFR750 Interceptor. I just bought a brand new GSXS1000F this summer. Not a super sport, but still a fully faired sport bike. I love it just like every other bike I have had. There is nothing like riding it. I live for it.

I love how they look, how they sound, how fast they are, how much power I have to use it anytime I want. To me Supersport bikes are just better than others.
Dead accurate. I was in denial of this for a long time because I loved them so much, had a VERY near death accident. Picked up dirtbiking, won’t ever look back. I love super sports, but there’s simply no practicality for them off the race track, and dirt is way more fun without the risk of imminent death or revocation of license.
All those risks and it’s still worth it. If I die on my zx12r I die happy and satisfied. What better death can one ask for?

If you haven’t ridden a bike don’t try or you will be suck into adrenaline (crack cocaine) fr seriously the amount of adrenaline it’s like you smoking 2pounds of weed. One intense ride on my 1000cc will leave me happy for the whole week fr💯💯

It all depends on self control and when to push it and when not too push it I have grown up much of my life has been spent on ss bikes yes I've crashed some were my fault most were because of 4 wheel drivers not looking and I'm on a flashed ecu BMW s1000rr full exhaust velocity stacks and power commander 5 I'm at like 215bhp I've GPS at 204 mph still had a bit more I think but overall I ride like and old salty track dog and I know when and where to let all the eagles come out lol self control is important
And lest we forget, the #1 reason (50%+) for moto crashes, aside from sub-par skills and lax judgment, is boozing i.e., with a BAL of 0.08 or more. It doesn't take much alcohol etc. to get you off of your best riding game and onto the pavement or into the weeds at high speeds.

I really feel this video describes me perfectly when I first began riding. Always pushing the limits of bravery / stupidity and the limits of my machine. I remember myself on an R6 at 280km/h for the first time and suddenly panicking at the ease of reaching that speed. And it was a rental. Even after a fall, if nothing was broken, I would go back to riding as if nothing had happened. Being young I was reckless with myself, but after a few years I realized I shouldn’t be doing anything that can devastate my family. Super sport bikes are only for those who feel they are at any moment willing to lose it all. Great video that really summarized the cons from the point of view of a rider. Kudos to the manufacturers for their engineering and tech, but I always say this about these bikes, “the machine will always outperform the capabilities of the rider”

Even less needs to be said for driving in general, and while a bike does allow you better handling than a car does, it also leaves you exposed so it doesn't take much going wrong for you to end up like scrambled eggs all over the road.

Maxx Damage Funny thing is, my uncle has a 10 year riding experience, he rode a scooter home from work, went to the shoulders to cut traffic, which is legal, when some guy turned right to go to a dirt road without indicating or looking in the mirror which made him break his shoulder.

Been a 5 and a half years of a cbr600rr 08 model(07),i can only say the next few things.
1-never ever felt more secure on two wheels as when riding my rr.
2-besides track days that i never had a go,it was my everyday bike,did everything on it,never felt uncomfortable,even when riding 600kms within a day.
3-I ve done a lot of stupid things while on that bike and i dont know why,probably due to the bikes character(being nimble compact riderfriendly etc etc)i always pulled it through.
I really love that bike,i kept it in perfect condition as the first day that i purchased it(i was the 3rd owner).
4-those 5 and smthing years had 30.000something kms with no problem other than the usual services of the manual.
If i ever get the chance to purchase one of those in such an excellent condition as the first one i had,am gonna get it with no second thought.

I'm 55 & just spent 3 yrs. on a 2007 GSXR 750. I commuted every day on it and loved it but sadly due to a severe back injury from a mtn bike crash I had to let it go. What an awesome bike, it will be missed but I do still have a 2005 750 track bike. I switch to a Harley Sportster for street riding & couldn't be happier, still fun in the twisties & I don't haul ass everywhere I go, just enjoy the ride now. Great vid, all your points are spot on. Supersports are incredible machines but best suited for track riding.
I never ventured into the sportbike realm. I always liked the "sporty" bikes. From my initial learning bike ( 1980 Honda 400 Hawk) , to my 1984 Honda 700 Sabre , to my 1990 Kawasaki Zephyr 600 , to my 1992 Yamaha Seca II 600 , I always enjoyed the comfortable ride and looks of the naked sporty bikes. They had plenty of power for public roads , and if they were ever dropped, you didn't have to worry about big $$ replacing any plastic.

The best thing I was ever taught...... always think that the car waiting to pull out onto a main road hasn’t seen you and always be prepared for a swerve or slamming the brakes on, I’m 36 now and the days of overtaking on bends and dangerous places are long gone, and riding is so much better. Still on 1 wheel and still a tarmac terrorist, love my 1000cc fireblade 🤘🏽 screams like a dream
I'm the oddity. I love my Honda CBR250R because its aerodynamic and gets great gas mileage and I drive like an ol'grandmother. When I drive the highways at 55mph I constantly have to go to the side of the road and let a line of cars go by, then I get to enjoy my ride. I understand that these kind of bikes attract thrill seekers, so it's taking some time for my family and friends to start seeing where I'm coming from. If they had know I was a hyper-miler, then the pieces would have come-together for them; This bike is a great fit for me.

Gene Weingarten. The CBR250 (up to 400cc class) is enough bike for most pleasure riders. A commuter or 40 miles daily + on a 70mph highway may need a heftier bike for the better suspension, wider tires and better weight.
However the CBR250 and Star are basically an old British scrambler built super reliable by Honda,etc.., with plastic wrap added for styling.
It was good enough for millions of guys before 1980 and it still is. Ride safe man.
If you're going that slow, pops, get a cruiser and be comfortable.
I had one, rode all the way from st.louis mo to Dallas, tx. It can go easily at 80 mph. But 85 to 90 is a stretch.
At least get a bike that lets you go the speed limit so you aren’t messing up traffic. More dangerous to go too slow in traffic than to just keep up

I commute daily on my bike, travel when i'm on vacation, go up the mountain roads on the week-end. I have roughly 8 years of experience, 2 of which on an old ass Aprilia Red Rose 50cc 4 gears manual bike, the rest on my old Ninja 636 and just recently upgraded to a brand new 2017 R6.
That being said, after the initial "transition" period from one bike to another, i managed to adapt to the new bike for commuting (i commute with a backpack to bring my work laptop, bike safety chain which is roughly 4 Kg(!), 2 disk locks, motorcycle cover for when i park it outside, a pair of shoes (i ride 100% of the time with race boots so i need a change for work) and a water proof 1 piece suit to put over my gear in case of rain. That backpack is heavy!
BUT with proper precautions (mainly a good back protector that helps sustaining the weight) i never had an issue.
I don't agree about the fact that commuting on a supersport motorcycle is just like banging a nail with a wrench. It's just a different kind of hammer.

I'm so glad I got a ninja 250 for my first bike I had so many close calls on it going into corners for its 350lbs weight made it easy to recover and a 600 or 1000 would've killed me.. I'm going to upgrade eventually but I will keep buying more gear and improving my skills. In Brampton In Ontario, Canada I find alot of the supersport bikers and cruiser bikers don't wear gear where as sport touring and naked sport bikers wear gear. Just wear all the gear it will hurt less in the shower.

If we had all the adventure bikes in the 60's it would be heaven for you. XD Funny thing is I'm only 18 but like the 70's to 80's culture better i even prefer the old bikes vs the new ones.
I started on (on the street) on sportbikes and found all the things you listed here to be true. So I went for a Wr250r dual sport. Then I found I very rarely go off road, and when I did it made a heavy slow dirt bike with bad suspension. It sucked on the highway and wasn’t great in the twisted either (suspension). But I could wind it out and felt like I was going faster than I was so it was more fun than my sportbikes. More comfortable too. Now I have an mt-07 and I can blast gears without going over 100 mph, hit the twisties at safe speeds and feel confident, and commute without cops staring at me everywhere I go. It’s just fast enough to be fun, but not so fast that I can get in trouble. The handling is much more forgiving than a sportbike and it has abs. I’ll eventually get a cheap dirt bike to have fun with off road, and if I ever have enough money to hit the track more than a couple times I year I’ll get a sportbike for that. Middle weight naked bikes are the answer for me for the street

I made a mistake and bought an R6 ONLY because it looked awesome, even though many people told me not to buy it - I was younger and thought I knew it all and ignored everyone. It was the least comfortable bike ever, extremely expensive to insure and consumed a lot of gas. I was also getting pulled over because I was dumb enough to speed etc. I eventually was hit by a left turner (surprise motherf*cker! lol) and bike was totaled. I was lucky i made it out alive and well and will unlikely to ever buy another super sport bike. Right now i ride Honda Grom and its the most fun bike i''ve ever owned!
You could ride a 150cc dirt bike on the road and go 60mph in a 20mph zone, thats dangerous but if you rode a sport bike 60mph in a 20mph it would be as equally dangerous. What i'm trying to say is that these bikes aren't dangerous just because they can go fast. Its the rider that chooses how fast they are going to go, or if they are going to obey the speed limit. All bikes are of the same danger level so sport bikes shouldn't be singled out cause they are fast, once again. A 125cc dirt bike is of the same danger level as a 1000cc sport bike.

when i grew up i just wanted to buy a motorcycle. but i didnt coz of famely matters, lake of safety and danger etc etc.
but when it comes to danger and beeing not safe on the streets on motorcycle. limme tell u this.
couple years ago i had a bad, bad accident with my car. and guess what was my fault !? just being in wrong place in wrong time. thats it. a car hit me with over 75mph when i was stopped at the traffic light. only 25" was the distance between my head and the damage on my car. i had some head and nick injuries that day. i could be dead that day. thank god am fully recovered.
after that day i realized. no matter how careful u are. how skilled u r. things will happen in blink of an eye. and the sad thing is u can do nothing about it.
after that i told my self, if things will happen by it self and i can do nothing about it. why should keep my self away from something i want so bad? i only have one life to live. am gonna buy a motorcycle. and i did last year. bought ducati monster 821. never been happier. even if i didnt ride the whole year, coz of our hot summer (i live in Kuwait, middle east). looking at bike make me feel calm. riding my bike for 10 mins in the nighberhood make my brain go in recovery/reset mode. specially after hard and tough day.
still, im always on full gear. never drag my knees on the ground. never been above speed averege on the streets.

Supersports are not the problem. The riders they attract and the mentality/experience levels associated with those riders are why they are dangerous. HeroRR has blamed every conceivable factor, except the riders themselves making poor decisions.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why we are seeing the massive boom in standards (FZ-07, SV650, Z900, 390 Duke, CB650F...) and the return of "regular" sport and mid-sized sport-touring bikes to prominence (CBR650F, Ninja 650, VFR800, Duc Supersport, the explosion in breadth in the 250-400cc category...). People are starting to remember why all those 80s and 90s bikes that made less than 100 horsepower were so much goddamn fun
But on the other side you have people who hate the looks of non-sportbike motorcycles. That's actually the #1 reason i ride sportbikes and not say a super naked or something else
hvymtal I completely agree ! Reason I don't own a 1000cc super sport anymore. I love my FZ 09 and it isn't flashed and will not go over 132 mph which is ok with me since the torque for overtaking traffic is why I got it. My girl has the Kawasaki ER 6N so basically the massive spike in naked bikes again is because of practicality for street riding, going to work, to the store, to the mall, without even breaking 10k USD on one of these bikes new in most cases.

Using a race-inspired, hard seat sporting, hunched over position having, DEATH MISSILE as your main means of transportation as opposed to a comfortable, practical bike is illogical. But guess what? Riding a motorcycle in general as opposed to driving a vehicle with four stable wheels and a protective, weatherproof metal shield is also illogical. Buying a motorcycle for logic's sake is foolish in and of itself. Go all out and get the bike you want even if it makes no sense! Motorcycles are not a decision of the mind but of the heart. Otherwise let's just drive cars.
Bowen Leigh If your goal is to stay alive then supersports are the MOST logical! Their superior agility, acceleration and braking (over other types of bikes) give you the best chance of avoiding/escaping dangerous situations.

When you face a metropolitan city during rush hour, a bike is a far more logical vehicle than a car. Daily bumper to bumper traffic 10 miles long goes from a two hour drive to 15 minutes and a lot less pollution.
I appreciate the caution. I've been riding super-sports for 30 years and had no problems, but then again I'm an engineer and overthink every situation, every turn, and the mechanics and physics in each instance beforehand. If you're overly reckless, wear no gear (squid), or can't calculate risk assessment, then this applies.

Broken bones, scars from surgeries, amputations and other things may come before death. Death is easy, the rest will make your life difficult, especially for someone like yourself who believes they will die a "hero", only to end up with a bag on your hip to crap in and a tube into your stomach to be fed with... Enjoyed the video, thank you for uploading. Over the course of my life, I have owned nine bikes, eight of which were super sport. I was never comfortable riding with protective gear except for my helmet because it made me feel constructive. Had two accidents, both my fault and then decided I was just getting to old for such speed so I finally opted for a cruiser. Lost two friends due to speed and showboating. I finally sold off my cruiser since driving in NYC is extremely risky. When I retire, I’ll move and consider another bike but it will probably be another cruiser. I always disliked riding with someone on the back, usually a girlfriend because the always fought the movement of the bike, such as not leaning into a curve. Also want ti mention that my back never bothered me but I can’t tell you how many times my hands went numb from leaning forward.
Owned an Aprilia RSV Mille when it first came out. Loved it. Also owned a KTM Duke II.....which I loved more. :)

I agree with most of what you stated. Street riding over 53 years, Yes I'm soon to be 70, flat track racing even longer. I use my Ducati 1299 S as transportation even when it's 15 degrees out, no snow, I ride. Between all my bikes , over 10,000 miles annually I'm not uncomfortable in the set back riding position of the 1299 . As with any motorcycle riding, common sense is vital . Through the years, bean down moor times then I wish too remember from MOST of the things you mentioned . the feeling of freedom, the power , the ability to beat any vehicle, to me, means I'm in control. Always bin competitive, but cautious . Know many guys that stop riding because so and so got killed or lost a limb , 95% , there fault !! They NEVER should have gotten a bike in the first place. I call it like I see it .. Be safe out there my fellow riders.

This is why I love my FZ1. 143 rear wheal horse and an upright ride. So what that I go through 2-3 rear tires every year. It has enough torque that I can ride two-up all day long at 3500-5500 rpms but any rev over 7000 is wicked fun for when I'm running solo.
biggest factor is RIDER SKILL. EVERY sport bike rider that I've ridden with simply don't have the skill or confidence to truly ride these bikes.

Yah, it really is. Most riders who constantly have accidents have less than 2-3 years riding experience and are mostly weekend warriors. Ride dirt, get comfortable and most of all...TRUST THE BIKE.
Somtimes skill simply isn’t enough when riding on the street. You can be the best rider in the world and a car can still spontaneously pull in front of you, your bike can lose traction when it shouldn’t, that deer can still run into the road right in front of you, that car can still cross a double yellow in a blind turn, the road can still suddenly turn to gravel, etc. Being a safe rider more than anything else is what will reduce your chances of a crash. Getting too confident in skill and pushing a bike is exactly what can lead you into trouble on the street.
SportTouring with emphasis on sport is were to go! A Kawasaki Z1000CX for example. Good riding position, place for two people and luggage, looks great and has 140hp which should be more then enough for anyone on the street. :)
There is no ugly truth of super sport bikes if you have boundaries. You keep your speed down - know when to gun it & when not to. You always travel close to the speed limit. CORNERING : pre entry - if you can't see around the corner you scrub speed (never ride blind or take risk). When you can see around corner & it's a good road - gun it. HIGH SPEED : though elligal only do when no one else on road, and for a short time. NOTE : I did defensive riding, trainers where top racers both on track & of road. They teach me how to ride fast around wet corner roads & fast around metal corner roads. How to brake fast on wet roads & metal roads. How to handle sliding wheels. Any sport bike 600cc upwards is lots of power & can do same damage if rider not keep in boundaries. 1000cc have more grunt, rider should use that (mid power). Should only be using upper end of power in 3rd or 4th gears. 5th & 6th is only overdrive. I have been riding 31 years. On GN250, GPX250, Dirtbike, GPX750, ZX7R, ZX9R, ZX10, TL1000R. Tips CORNERING : high speed you counter steer, low speed you let bike fall in. Wet Corners : lean bike into corner keeping your body upright sitting on seat. Metal roads : ride your bike like a bout, go with the slide, in lower gears, enginebrake. Pre corner braking : dab your breaks in straight line b4 cornering (lower your gears).

Sport bikes are actually the safest bikes on the road due to the performance capabilities. Stopping distances, acceleration and maneuverability can all help avoid an accident.

yes , their braking is damn good too and their powerful acceleration can be used when needed , but the thing is these speeds pose danger to other civilians on roads ( which are meant for commuting )

You can have just as fun in the twisties on an adventure bike, standard, sport touring, touring or supermoto, and be more comfortable while doing it. I didn't include cruiser simply because of lean angle limitations.
Most men ride supersport bikes because they look cool and aggressive and provide a good compensation for what they lack somewhere else. 99% of the guys I see riding supersport bikes couldn't extract all the performance out of a 250cc, yet they thing riding a 1000cc race bike on the road is a good idea. It's not. A 1000cc supersport bike doesn't teach you anything because you'll never find its limits. A 600/700cc supermoto (KTM 690 SMC R, Husqvarna 701 Supermoto, etc) is the ideal tool for the city. Very light, absurdly agile, cheap to insure. I've beaten tons of guys on supersport bikes on twisty roads on my 690 SMC, and I'm sure I was a lot more relaxed and I had a lot more fun...

I always liked sportbikes, because it was my way of having a lambhorgini. The high performance and functions are something I could never afford on a car. But..i agree there are way too many guys and girls who buy them for the wrong reasons and those idiots ruin it for the responsible riders

Meh, just because they don't 'utilize the full potential' doesn't mean a guy can't own something he loves. I own an R1 and a 200cc bike. I can juice the 200cc bike's potential out whereas I don't even attempt to do that on an R1. Why do I buy an R1 then? Cause it rides differently, looks different, sounds different and I just love the damn bike. I enjoy looking at it while I'm walking towards it in the parking lot. I don't want a cruiser cause I just don't find them appealing.
You seem to have a problem with the fact that some people might like something else than what you like, thus you explain it by claiming they are compensating for something. Idk, man, sometimes it's simply a passion for a bike/car and the ability to afford it that makes people buy it.

Here in the UK the Police are sympathetic to bikers. Ive been stopped 3 times for riding to fast. It was a friendly chat to get me to slow down, to save my life, they were right. This may not be everyones point of view.

I got my first sport bike when I was 17 back in 1985 and have been riding them ever since (I'm 50 now). Its all about riding within your skill set on your bike, getting a bike that is not beyond what you can safely ride/handle and fully using your brain when you ride. I ride for myself not for "girls" or anyone else, I ride for the enjoyment and peace of it all and not the speed or crazy stunts either. I will add that where you live and ride means a lot as well, I live in Albuquerque, a city that is truly dangerous for bikes in general and as long as I live here I honestly won't ride often here. I currently am restoring a 1996 Honda CBR1000F back to mint stock and I cant wait to get her back on the road again and ride!
Glad to see that other people get it!!! I recently traded my 2012 600rr for a new 2019 500r and the sells guy was questioning me every step of the way. Like I'd be so disappointed downgrading 50+ horsepower. But if you've already had your 'need for speed' experiences, sometimes you just want to get back to fun riding, admiring the beauty of a brand new bike, those back country roads, wolf packing with a few friends, and longevity haha

aussie ELK HYP3RNOVA get a 600, I wanted a 1000 at first and I have one, but I also have a 600. I use the 600's nimbleness every time I ride, I only use the full power potential of the 1000 here and there
I can't wait for my 15th birthday so I can get a BMW S1000RR with twin superchargers and a nitro... just for a little ride to school and back, you know.

Man, I've been riding a Suzuki intruder 800 for 2 years now. The bike was in perfect condition, not even 8k miles and it was a 93. On 4/20 I was riding back to work from break. I was going uphill behind 2 suvs, and it went from a single lane to two, being that I was running late, I got over into the 2nd lane as soon as it was available, well as soon as I got over there was a lane full of cones, loose gravel, and a work truck hidden behind a retaining wall around the corner. I was going 45, slammed on both breaks, the rear slid back and forth, then the handlebars went nuts, and I went over the handlebars, landed on my hip/side, and skid across into the oncoming traffic lane on my back (THANK GOD I HAD MY BACKPACK ON.) I was laying there for a minute grabbing my foot and just rolling around in pain, and luckily the workers were right there and came running to me, otherwise a car could have came and wouldn't have seen me at all because it was right before the peak of the hill for them. I ended up with a broken foot, road rash, a bruised hip, and the doctors have been telling me how crazy lucky I am. I'm 19 so I still live with my mom and she was already scared as hell about me riding in the first place, So now she never wants me on a bike again. I was already near $1,000 in savings for a street bike. Gonna have to wait til I move out to get one now.. drive safe everyone
The GSX-R 1000 is extremely comfortable though.
My K5 GSX-R 1000 was so comfy logging 500 miles in a day was easy.
Dude extremely comphy hah. I'm going to have to start looking gsxr's now. Currently have 600 rr. I can ride for a while on that thing but hours I don't know about that especially just cruising along like nothing.
I have 37.000km on my K7 1000 and no problems with long runs.
xeroinflux 500 miles a day is nothing on a bike that fast.. I've ridden multiple bikes over 1000 miles in one day - my Hayabusa was the only sport bike i could take 1000 miles in a day.
There's nothing comfortable about a sport bike, don't kid yourself.
Anhjje just raised my zx10r half an inch and my god iknow it's almost nothing but it was enough for me to not be leaned over too much and my back straight

Spot on video.... I love the look of sports bikes, had a Daytona T595, R1, Blade, GSXR.... now got a daughter, my biking days are over.... glad I got away with many years of riding..... I do miss it!

Be smart,like me. I upgraded from a 2007 CBR1000 RR to a 2015 BMW S1000R. Yes a ONE R. (I`m abit surprised at how so many know the RR and so few know the R) The "streetfighter RR" only a slight detune with more emphasis on torque than BHP. And me beeing on the wrong side of 40 i actually enjoy riding now as my shoulders are no longer on fire after 15 minutes,90% of the fun is had at 65-96 mph. Not at 140+
